Talk of India - Indian restaurant in Tauranga, New Zealand
The best Indian in NZ!My partner and I live in Auckland and periodically come down to Tauranga to visit my parents. It’s now a tradition for my partner and I to come here every time we’re in town because we can’t find anything up in Auckland to compare. Every Friday rolls around and we order from a new Indian place, but to no avail! My partner will get so excited he will start chanting “butter naan, butter naan” on the car drive down to Tauranga.I first started coming here about ten years ago and it’s still my favourite, and it’s not just me. The faces of anyone from Tauranga that I speak to will always light up when I mention ‘Talk of India.’ Some of them live in Australia now and still get jealous when I say I’m coming here for dinner.Obviously, the food is delicious. The portion sizes are generous (we always overeatand the staff are so friendly too. These guys have been around a long time, for good reason. Thank you Pradeep, I hope you’re there forever!
The Best Indian cuisine ever! We have been comming here for 25 years from papamoa . Amazing service , great atmosphere and consistency fabulous food.
Service and food was fantastic. The best Indian restaurant Ive been to. Highly recommended.
Plenty of non-spicy options.
The very best, authentic, delicious food, served by the most generous and welcoming hosts. Best by far in Tauranga. 100% recommend.
Omg!! Yummy food! Awesome service.
Absolutely fantastic food and service, I will be back often and certainly recommend.
Lovely food, great service. Well worth it.
Best Indian in tauranga. Had the banquet meal for 3 and it is to die for. You wont regret eating dining here. Staff so awesome and menus so vast aaa rating
We had the banquet meal, wow so much food, so much flavour, fantastic service. Such lovely people, we will be back for sure! Thank you for a delish meal!!!
Best Indian meal I’ve had for some time - just beautiful and flavoursome rather than drowned in cream. Even the naan tasted better.
Food was below average, all dishes had the same taste, like many other reviews, has a very sweet base, so even when you say hot, it does have a very sugary taste, worst part is their service, find them very arrogant and unfriendly. Not worth recommending.
Decent sitting area with good customer service. Food is reasonably priced and taste is fine but menu is bit limited.
Used their takeaway service. Food was fantastic. Not the cheapest but worth every cent.
Great venue for our mid year social function. Exceptional food, service & ambiance. Thank you Pradeep & staff. We will return. Recommend.
Four of us went for a birthday dinner last night. Fantastic friendly service and a delicious meal was had. Thank you for the special drink at the end of the night too. We will be back.
The food was delicious and a really nice family tgat own the restaurant. I highly recommend you try this restaurant if you love Indian food.
Terrific meal and service was impeccable! The owner Pradeep was extremely friendly, welcoming and nothing was a problem. A definite favourite!!
Went for the special vegan night, as advertised on Facebook. Two in our party of four were carnivores and could still order off the main menu.Weve never had a bad meal at Talk of India, and vegan night was just as delicious as their main menu. Independent restaurants are always so much better than chain ones.
Talk of India is worth a dine out. Food was Great and very warm customer service.Tried a variety of food and each was delicious. Chicken, Lamb and beef were succulent and tender!Price is high but however the food was great.F.B.R
I work close to this location and we go frequently for lunch. They do a $12 lunch menu which is tasty and quick. Usually a choice of curry that comes with some naan. A smaller portion than a main meal obviously considering the price but just right for lunch time.
I had chicken Tikka masala gravy was weird didnt taste like authentic Indian at all I know Im white but I know my currys lol was disappointed gave 3 stars to be nice but currys definitely need work
Best Indian food anywhere, been our Friday night curry takeaway/dine in for 15 years. Great food, owners are the most friendly people you will meet.
Love this place. Fabulous food. Lamb korma is superb. Excellent owner and staff who go the extra mile to making sure you enjoy your meal. 5 stars to you.
OMG !. This place is amazing !!!I have never had Butter chicken with nan bread that good.......ever. I would love to clone that place for Auckland lolTheir hospitality and welcoming attitude has to be experienced. I will be back for sure next time I am in town for work. They came recommended by a workmate and I am pleased I took them up on the recommendation. Will I come again?, you bet ya !
super enjoyable meal.I had a lamb curry (Gosht Nawabiwith cheese and garlic naan. (and rice)fast and friendly service combined with great food made this an enjoyable meal.for under $30 I couldnt finish everything.enjoyed the al-fresco tablethere was a steady stream if takeaways which speaks well as to the quality.my lamb was sweet - and surprisingly mild considering I ordered "indian hot"would like to come back and try some more items from the menu!
Eat in or take-away. Good selection on the menu and the friendly staff were happy to make alterations according to preference. Standard portion was just enough but perhaps order large if you have a big appetite. After reading reviews went there and got 1 bluff oyster not so bad 1 reconstituted squid ring ugh! 1 scollop could not find it in the thick batter and the smallest amount of very average chips I have ever been served.
We had dinner at the Talk of India last night. The food was exceptional, presentation and service were superb. There was no intrusive music playing, no screen on just friendly and helpful staff and an unhurried and calm atmosphere. Great atmosphere & the food is delicious. Staff are efficient & friendly. There are other Indian restaurants in town with equally good food but this place wins hands down for service & atmosphere.
first time visit, went for the $14 lunch special AMAZINNNNNNGGGG!! never before have i tasted levels with in a dish but each curry taster i ate was so full of flavour, it was a very pleasant surprise. the service was wonderful i even got a hand shake from the god who created my meal. if there were higher ratings i would award it. Own Masala won the award for best curry via menu log, ever since then curries there have been average ........ I can only think that Talk of India must not have entered !!! go there instead 100 times more satisfying
The quality and quantity of the food was so poor. All the curries were tasting like only curry powder and maggie masala. I would say that that wasn’t made by chefs but cooks. Also when we asked them about the food taste they were very rude with us. I won’t recommend this restaurant. Will never visit there again.
It was a cold and dark Tauranga night and we wanted some Indian comfort food and we certainly got it from Talk of India. The Tandoori chicken and biriyani was excellent and the friendly staff (family run businessmade it completely worth it! Would love to visit again one day.
One of the best features of this restaurant is that all the menu ingredients are prepared on site with some herbs being grown in the Owners garden. It is the only Indian restaurant that I visit that I do not have a gripey stomach The menu is extensive and varied and covers all tastes. No matter whether we want vegetarian, lamb or fish there is an option available - beef of course is offered but we are not big beef eaters. The staff and service is excellent and friendly. The experienced staff are ready to offer a suggestion if one is requested. We try to visit at least once a week. If we dont want to eat in - takeaways at a slight discount are just as great. We have been frequenting Talk of India for over 15 years
Too much sugar for authentic Indian food. Same as previous writer it tastes like ketchup with some spices. very plain and too expensive for a lunch menu. Service was nice but it does not compensate for bad taste.
Excellent service and the owners made us feel right at home. The food was also amazing and faultless. We will definetly be return customers! Also great value for money!
Food was too sweet. If youre Indian or know anything about Indian food I would stay far away from this place. Butter chicken was basically tomato paste with sugar. Every dish was full of sugar... I think theyre food is tailored towards locals with absolutely zero knowledge of authentic Indian cuisine.
Excellent service, friendly staff, were happy to accommodate our request to share meals. Engaged us in polite friendly conversation. Even complemented us and gave an unexpected discount. Highly recommended
The food is great and the staff are really nice. I have come back here a few times and would recommend it to anyone in the area looking for some great Indian food. They do have a takeaway option at this restaurant. The prices are very and they do have lots of gf options. They said that they could do all of their currys gulten free. They also had the option for gf bread. Great place for the family.
You know when there is so much choice of where to eat in a town and you look at each eatery option and hope you make the right decision because all you want is to exchange your hard earned money for great food and drink.....Look no further. This is the where the locals know to go and eat Indian food if they have any taste buds! You need to eat here !The food is off the charts AMAZING and the service is just as fabulous.Look no further you have found your eatery and wont be disappointed!
We have tried pretty much every Indian restaurant in Tauranga. We keep being drawn back to Talk of India for the flavour and their food does not upset your digestive system like many do. The service is terrific and they have amazing hospitality. So nice to get friendly service with a smile and often a free beer if you are waiting for takeaways. You guys Rock!
Such a beautiful restaurant. Superb food presented by friendly helpful staff. Great selection of meals including vegan & gluten-free. Dine in or take away. Highly Recommend!!!
Highly recommend this restaurant. Ate there recently and the food was delicious, served exactly to our requests and the service outstanding. Lovely experience all round
Weve recently moved here from Christchurch, where there are heaps of GOOD Indian restaurants. Since being here, every one we had tried was disappointing, but this one was excellent. My partner and I also believe it was the best-cooked meat we have ever had in any Indian Curry, the texture and flavours were outstanding. What absolutely tipped it over th edge was how friendly and welcoming the staff were!!! Weve never been treated so well. They deserve all the stars and more!
An amazing visit. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful, as well as very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was incredible - our whole family really enjoyed the meal. Lots of gluten free options available too. Thanks so much!
Delicious food. Runs on the spicier side for nz curries. Happily made me Chicken Madras although this isnt written on the menu, only Beef Madras. Owner is super friendly, gave us a free bottle of beer once while waiting for our takeaways. Has an alcohol breathalyzer you can use, which is cool that they care about people drinking responsibility if driving.
The food is great. We had a lamb dish, a fish fish and a lentil dish. All were good. Spiciness was on the hot side. Not 5 stars because of the noise. We visited on a Sunday evening.
A lovely dining experience. The little extra touches - welcome entree and port wine at the end of the meal made this an excellent evening. Great service and good food.
My family went and tried out their new speciality menu that they have just recently introduced. We ended up combining a few entrees to share and this has opened me up to be more adventurous when ordering Indian food again (I would usually get butter chicken from an Indian restaurant). Ask about the ‘giant’ roti and chicken cooked three ways.
Excellent service, excellent food, excellent wine. Prices are reasonable, especially considering the quality of food. It was slow, but the owner talked with us, gave us business tips and even offered us an extra glass of wine as we were leaving. Couldnt be more pleased. Going back as soon as possible.
The food was absolutely disgusting. Butter chicken was just tomato paste. Too much $ for the size of quantity. Was looking for a nice Indian food but disappointed with this restaurant. Gave wrong change back ... service too slow.... really a bad experience
First time visit to this fantastic Indian restaurant which is highly recommended on TripAdvisor. It certainly lives up to its reputation, delicious tasting meals served by friendly staff who made sure we were happy with our meals, this was another busy night for them. The owner and staff are to be congratulated on running their business so well, we will certainly be returning in the future..
