Tal Barahi temple (Nepali: तालबाराही मन्दिरalso known as ‘Lake Temple’ or ‘Barahi Temple’ is a Hindu temple of the Durga. It is the most important religious monument in Pokhara, Nepal. This temple is located on a small island in the middle of Phewa Lake. As the temple is situated on a small island, the only way to visit it is by boat.[1][2] The temple is a symbol of manifestation of Ajima representing the female force. Devotees visit the temple in the Nepalese months of Baisakh (April-Mayand Kartik (November-December).Goddess Varahi is an avatar of Goddess Durga who is believed to be the symbol of strength (Shakti). Varahi or Barahi means Boar in Nepalese. It is a form which was taken by Goddess Durga to kill the destructive demons. She is believed to have fought the mighty demons with her tusks and killed them all. After the fight, she is believed to have visited the Pokhara Valley and found it so enticing that she wanted to stay there. Ever since, this powerful form of Goddess Durga has been an important deity for the Hindu community in Nepal. Locals also state that the temple was in fact, built by an ardent worshipper of Goddess Varahi, King Kulmandhan Shah of the Shah Dynasty. It was made during his resign in 1864, and he chose the spot on an island in the middle of Phewa Lake for the temple to be built. The island was actually formed after the inflow of water to Phewa Lake was controlled by a dam built nearby

Visited the famous Tal Barahi Temple, Fewa Lake. Quiet, Calm, Serene are the words you can relate to, for the experience visiting the Lakeside. This place offers an exciting view of nature - a tranquil lake surrounded by mountains and clouds above - you can enjoy boating and visit holy temple "Talbarahi Temple" located in the middle of the Lake. Participated in an evening Aarti, a ritual where light is offered to the Gods: this is performed on the banks of Fewa Lake. This ritual lasted for about 45 minutes and is practised during the sunset every day in devotion to the Talbarahi deity. The serene prayer chants and aarti filled the atmosphere with devotion. Listening to the psalms brought a peaceful end to my day in Pokhara.
Peace of mind! 🙏🏻Be careful there are few people who tell you that they buy tickets for you, you just avoid them and you can just walk-in to the any of the counters and get the tickets. One you get the tickets you will also get life jacket ticket included with the boating ticket.Don’t pay extra for the life jacket tickets.

Goddess Durga temple on small island of Phewa lake. We had to take tickets & ride a boat to reach the island. Temple itself was not very big but beautifully constructed in pagoda style. One may witness the beautifully carved wooden door & windows. Beautiful Idol of goddess was made of silver. Temple premises had few trees & flowering plants. Many pigeons were flying & feeding around the temple. Views of Phewa lake, mountains & Himalaya especially the Machhapuchhre (Fishtail mountainwas marvelous. Almost everyone visiting Pokhara must visit this place.
A beautiful temple on a beautiful lake. We had to canoe ourselves over to the temple situated on the Island in the middle of the lake, which I thought was great. The temple itself was beautifully and delicately built with amazing craftsmanship.
Tal Barahi Temple is located in the center of Phewa Lake, a small island one of the most famous lakes in Pokhara valley. Tal Barahi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga Sapta Matrika in the shape of Barahi. She has four hands. Her face is like the face of a wild boar, holding the earth with his teeth holding different weapons in her hands. The typical two-storeyed pagoda-style temple was built inside a lake by Kaskeli Kıng Kulmandan Singh in 1416.

Middle of the Phewa Lake (Baidam), this temple is a true bless to Pokhara.Ancient anecdote says that the lake region used to be a habitat and later water filled everywhere, this place happened to be a bit of land and a King of then "Kaski" established this Shrine. Late king Mahendra established local people led management committee and the structure still governs the place.
