The Tajhat zamindar’s house is located in the village of Tajhat, about six kilometers from Rangpur city. Mannalal, a jeweler, was the founder of the Tajhat zamindari. He came to Mahiganj in Rangpur at the end of the eighteenth century for business reasons and started building a building. His building was destroyed in an earthquake in 1897, and he was injured and later died. After his adopted son Gopal Lal Roy Bahadur took charge of the zamindari, he built a zamindar house in the middle of the twentieth century with the help of about 2,000 masons. The construction of the house cost about one and a half crore rupees. The building was completed in 1917. The palace courtyard has a large empty field, rows of trees, and two ponds on either side of the palace. The house is surrounded by natural beauty, flower gardens, Kamini, mahogany, jackfruit, and mango orchards in the north and south. On the third and fourth floors of this zamindar’s house, which looks like Ahsan Manzil in Dhaka, there are various things used by Raja Gopal. The Tajhat zamindar house is made of red brick, white stone, and limestone. Inside this four-storey zamindar’s house, there are innumerable rooms, bathrooms, and guest bedrooms. The palace is about 210 feet wide and four storeys high. Its structure is thought to have been inspired by ancient Mughal architecture, as evidenced by a huge dome in the center and a mosque with its scattered buildings on either side. However, the staircase of Rajbari is different from all other palaces in Bangladesh. There are a total of 31 stairs, each of which is made of Italian marble. The whole floor from the stairs to the museum is made of the same stone. There is a secret staircase at the back of the palace. The secret staircase is connected to a tunnel that is directly connected to the Ghaghat river, but the staircase has now been closed for security reasons. The beautiful fountain of the palace is white marble and its greenish design is a bit dull in the evolution of time, but its splendor is still understandable. It is said that it was built especially for the queen. Before 2005, the zamindar’s house was known as Tajhat Rajbari. The interior of the zamindar’s house In 1995, the Archaeological Department of the Government of Bangladesh declared the palace as a protected structure and architecture. The government of Bangladesh realized the historical significance of this architecture and moved the Rangpur Museum to the second floor of the palace in 2005. There are several exhibition rooms with terracotta artifacts of the 10th and 11th centuries. There are several ancient manuscripts written in Sanskrit and Arabic. These include the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, along with the Qur’an from the time of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. In the back room, there are several black stone portraits of the Hindu god Vishnu. But there is a ban on taking pictures inside the museum. This museum has three hundred valuable specimens. If you go to visit our season, you will make a big mistake if you do not return to Rangpur without eating the famous Haribhanga Mango.

One of the most famous tourist attraction of Rangpur. The traffic system around this place is very organized. Its placed in Mahiganj, it will take 15 minutes by auto rickshaw from the city and will cost you around 100 TK. You can feel the serenity, calmness inside the palace and outside also. In winter closing hour is at 5 and summer time is 6 o clock.

I love this place. Excellent environment. Lots of things to do. Many things to explore inside the museum. Ancient armour, clothing, old books, statues, etc.Although whole area is very big including some ponds, gardens and many old trees. You have to buy tickets to entry and there are some space for car parking. More cleaning needed. Staffs are not too experience. Good for family, friends and kids.

A highly recommend palace if you are in Rangpur. This is perhaps the top destination for anyone traveling to Rangpur as a tourist. Tourism and Tour planners in Rangpur seems like emphasize this Jaminder Bari more than any other destination in the area. You can take a three-wheeler or a Riakshaw (depending on the number of membersto reach there. If you have a car with you, the destination should not take you more than 30-40 minutes from the city. Ticket price is 20 taka for adults and 5 taka for children. It is more for foreign tourists.Once you enter inside the palace area, you will notice a huge lavish area adorned with different plants and flowers. Keep the tickets with you as you will need them later to visit a small museum in the main Jaminder Bari complex.Once you are near the main building, or palace in this case, you can take a glimpse of the Jaminder era and can get a vivid idea about the life and place where those Jaminder family used to live. Roam inside, take a look and enjoy your time. There are plenty to look at and imagine, if you are interested! The museum has a good collection of antique items but sadly they are not related to the Jaminder Bari only. The authority have brought in many things from all around the district.Spend some time near the pond and look at the architecture of the main palace. It will surely take you to the past. Allow your imagination take control and think about the lost past of people you have never knew. They were once real and powerful, but now they are just memory. You can get inside, look at the rooms, balcony and gardens. Then take the stairs and go to the upper floors. The architecture is amazing. If you have never been to a traditional Jaminder Bari before, this is perhaps your chance to do that. Cheers!

Its a beautiful place, no doubt about it. But it does not contain any artifacts of the kings and queens who lived there. Also the upper floors are off limits. The gardens and surrounding places are quite beautiful and good spot for photography. But other than than and the first floor museum that contains relics from mostly Mohastangor, there is nothing more to see.

North Bengal has few places to offer for tourists.Tajhat Zamindar place is one of best of all of the places. The building itself is small, but has very beautiful architecture and a huge garden where hundreds of flowers bloom during winter. It is the best place to see in Rangpur and I loved it very much. However, toilet facilities are very old and could be improved.

Tajhat Palace, Tajhat Rajbari, is a historic palace of Bangladesh, located in Tajhat, Rangpur. The palace, with about 76 metres frontage, rises two storeys and faces east. An imposing broad staircase in the centre, paved with imported white marble, leads directly above the portico to the upper storey. The palace is crowned by a ribbed conical dome in the centre of the roof with a tall octagonal neck, partly supported on a series of slender semi-Corinthian columns. The balustrade on either side of the imposing staircase was originally embellished with various sculptures of classical Roman figures in Italian marble, but now these are missing. There are two semi-octagonal projections at each end of the front face and a central projecting porch. The balcony roof above the porch is carried on four graceful Corinthian columns with round shafts, while two similar columns on each of the projecting ends of the building support a triangular gable. The palace is laid out in the form on a "U", with its open end to the west. Beyond the entrance at ground-floor level there is a very large hall, measuring more than 18 x 13 meters. A 3 meter wide corridor runs the entire length of the inner block. Two broad wooden staircases provide access to the upper floor. There are about 22 apartments on two floors.History[edit]The palace was built by Maharaja Kumar Gopal Lal Roy in the beginning of the 20th century. It is believed that from the conspicuous appearance of his Taj or jeweled crown, his estate derived the name of Tajhat. From 1984 to 1991 the palace was used as a Rangpur High Court Branch of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. In 1995 the palace was declared as a protected monument by the Department of Archaeology. Recognizing its outstanding architectural value the Government of Bangladesh shifted the Rangpur Museum to the second floor of the palace in 2005. The main room at the top of the marble stairs have a number of display cases which show 10th–11th century terracotta artifacts.
