Taj Mahal - Indian restaurant in Penzance, United Kingdom
Very nice takeaway meal, decent size portions.
Excellent food & service. A great find for a Tuesday evening. The Nepalese menu was delicious. The flavours and spices were superb. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back again soon. Very friendly and courteous staff.
Excellent food. Excellent service. We were quite blown away! The best Indian/Nepalese food ever!
Indian/Nepalese restaurant in a side road. It looked like a takeaway first but we were surprised by the food. Very tasty food and pleasant service.
Food made with love. Loved the way the owner man treats his guests...Super kind.
Giving 1 as I cant give zero. We ordered chilli chicken and lamb momos which according to them is their speciality being a Nepalese restaurant. Pls avoid this place. Period.
Great Madras - enough of a kick without being too spicy. Doris said her korma was amazing. Garlic naan was one of the best weve had. Friendly service :)
Undercooked chicken and chewy lamb, very small portions for £9.95.Was expecting top quality for top pricesbut got no frills sticky table venue,Look elsewhere...poor show..
Been here twice now and it was as bad has before,,, service terrible staff miserable food ok but could improve.
Lovely food, friendly staff. Prices about normal for eating in nowadays. Delighted to find a restaurant that doesnt allow dogs, so its safe for asthmatics who are sensitive to them. A meal interrupted by a trip to hospital with an asthma attack would not be fun. We arent stuck with Wetherspoons meals.
Indian restaurant owner by Nepali owner I went holiday in Cornwall I had one of the best proper Indian food taste good hygiene standard Freind staff best gurka beer,Momasand affordable price
Starters are good. Will not recommended going for a main course(all gravies are same and not properly cooked).Make sure to book table well in advance.
Good indian, range of different dishes and friendly service.
Delicious food, lovely and very friendly staff. Highly recommended. You must eat here.
We had dinner while visiting Penzance. Seating is very congested. Food was okay. We had ordered Fish Chili Fry, Tarka Dal, Bhindi Bhaji, Brinjal Aloo, Aloo Gobi, etc. The Gobi was not well cooked. I couldnt get a taste of brinjal in the Brinjal aloo. Overall, I would not recommend this place because we did not like the taste of the food.
The Service was somewhat poor and dismissive at times. We were bot fully tended to properly and had to ask for our plates to be cleared. We had to shout for the waiter to get their attention . The food was ok to good for us.
We had a nice meal here, no license so had to take our own beer. Waiter recommended a dish to my friend but refused to give him rice, which was a bit strange. Anyway Id happily go back and try some of the other dishes.
This place makes excellent and very authentic Indian food.
Food was good but I item my child ordered and taste was bit rotten so I requested to exchange with something else as it was not fresh taste, so rather than listening what I was saying the manager became very rude initially so I had to say dont exchange just bring another item. He even didnt listen what I was saying. It was hot inside...food was good.... And cheap...
*Caution to asian customers*Very bad service and poor management. Cannot handle many customers together at a time. One waiter was very rude, mannerless and asked us not to call him many times as they are busy. I could see him frustrated as he was not able to handle anything properly.we went there for the first time so we ordered startes and drinks first to taste the food and then the main course. Even if they were busy he could have spoken to his customers in polite way as its not our fault that they cannot work properly. Then we came to know that they dont have any manager there and that rude indian person is actually chef who is handling the restraurant for now. No wonder he was disrespectful and he was not capable of managing the restraurant. I saw he was specifically rude and least intersted with asian customers.Other waiters were good and helpful. Food was average. Not recommended at all.
Decent food. Hygiene rating of 5. Card machine want working when I collected a take away
I had lemon rice, sag aloo and salmon tikka. My husband had pilau rice and chicken dansak. We also had a peshawari naan and some poppadoms each. To be honest, thats way too much food for us to manage in one sitting...so we shall eat it tomorrow as well! Yum! This restaurant is a regular takeaway for us and has always provided good, tasty food and a good experience. Its sometimes busy (so be patient), but weve never had to wait a crazy amount of time. Definitely ring and book at least 30 mins in advance if you want a takeaway, though. Staff are always helpful and friendly.
One of the best Indian restaurant .food 10out of 10 ,i have worked for 4 years in few different restaurants and gone out for dinner 100s of restaurants ,i hardly appreciate when i eat out but honestly i couldnt stop appreciating this restaurant ,everyone must visit this place if u get chance to visit Penzance.great place
***cautions for Asian customer***there was one table customer inside , whole restaurant was empty soon as me, wife and two kids walked in they refused service and and said they are there was no tables available, soon as we was about to walkOut we heard the colleague say these Asian don’t spend a lot of money they share one curry between them. I have never felt so disappointed in my life, if you are Asian I would not recommend you going to this restaurant.
What a find in Penzance!! Some very nice different things on the menu. We tried the specials rather than the normal curry dishes and they were excellent, just abit different with their sauces and flavourings, would eat there again tonight!! Recommend booking especially on a Friday or Saturday. We went on a Sunday and it was extremely busy
Friendly helpful staff. Excellent pilau rice, average chicken curry, naan and onion bahgi, they were nothing exceptional but decent enough, shame really. The Gurka lager is well worth sampling it was outstanding.
Amazing food, really tasty, accurate spiceometer, prawns where fresh, perfect night out rounded off with an amazing meal. Service was amazing, the owner even helps out and was very kind.(Even sweets with the bill :)
Gorgeous food, great prices & customer service was phenomenal. Best Indian/Nepalese weve had in Cornwall!
Excellent Indian restaurant in the heart of Cornwall, good selection, fast service and courteous staffs.
I rarely say to avoid places unless it really warrants it and I know reviews are subjective, but I can honestly say, dont waste your money going here. The service is terrible. When our mains came out they were just plonked on the table with no description of what they were and who was having what. They were too eager to take away our poppadoms which we had not finished and did not ask if we had.The food is very overpriced for what it is. I had the tandoori salmon which consisted of four chunks of salmon on some onions with meager shreds of lettuce for £10.95! and thats not including the rice. The food also was very oily, from the poppadoms to the bhajis, to the Naan.Everything felt very rushed too.Was very disappointed and will not be returning. I should of took more note of the poor reviews.
Found this little gem tonight! One of the best Indians I’ve been too, food was delicious! Very quick service… friendly owner! Will be returning soon! If you haven’t yet you must give it a try!!
Collected meal bang on time. Free poppadoms, food piping hot and very tasty, good sized pprtions.
Been to this place to be amazed by lovely Indian flavours. You can taste all those subtle flavours on your palate. I can bet there are not many Indian restaurants who offer such lovely curries in UK with charming service. This guy I suppose was owner was amazing and served exactly what we were looking for on his recommendations.Thank you will visit again.
Really nice and friendly staff with experienced managing. The Chef tailored the food to suit us which was superb. Definitely the most authentic Asian cuisine available in Cornwall at a very reasonable price in a clean and welcoming environment. If you are visiting Penzance the Taj Mahal is a must go restaurant and a place to return to as often as possible.
Great food. New owner started in Nov 21. Very friendly and chatty. If you like a curry, come here. Best Ive tasted and Ive eaten loads.
Ive been trying to find a decent curry house in Cornwall for years and unfortunately Im still looking. The rice and Bombay potatoes were good, but sadly the curry tasted like Sharwoods paste with loads and loads of chilli powder thrown in. The Madras I had was Phall hot and didnt really have any flavor. Its clear that no base sauce is used, its just a standard shop brought paste with passata and chilli powder.I will continue my quest to find a decent curry house, not only in Cornwall, but anywhere near the sea.
Ordered 3 main meals with relatively quick service and picked up within 40 minutes, also got given a complimentary bottle of wine which was lovely! Only reason it’s 4 stars as the biriyani rice was quite bland and even though specifically asked to be spicy it was not spicy at-all.However the 2 other meals were extremely flavoursome.
Great food! Good friendly service. Will definitely visit again if in town. *Was originally going to New India Restaurant further down town until I researched and found out it has a ZERO FOOD HYGIENE RATING* 🤢
Excellent food, excellent service! Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Any negative comments can’t be remotely justified. Fabulous all round
Blandest curry I’ve ever had… It was so red looking, I’d believe they’d actually poured loads of tomato sauce into it or red flooded it with food dye…. Rice was nice and the Naan bread was lovely… But I’ll never eat here again.. All dishes had the same red sauce…
This place is a real gem. I wish it was my local, I would always go there! . Fantastic food and lovely staff. This must be one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to. I highly recommend the vegetarian dishes and naan bread. Thankyou. for a great meal!
Disappointed with this meal. The restaurant was very busy. Our poppadoms and starters (picturedwere nice. Our mains came and my special chicken curry was tasty.Unfortunately my partners vegetarian curry was not as described. It was too spicy for my partner and we couldnt see the vegetables described in it. They offered to put it right but when the dish returned minutes later it was much the same and my partner was unable to eat it.
Amazing customer service. brilliant food. Vegetarian & non veg both foods were outstanding. Specially zeera chicken was amazing. I will love to go again & again. It was great experience to have such a nice food. They know the actual Indian food taste
What happened to this place? It used to be brilliant. Called two hours ahead to place our order for collection. Arrived at our time given, they take payment & say our food is ready. 45 minutes later - still no food. Finally get the order home, wrong food & missing dishes. Call up to get it sorted - no one arrives. Call back again only to be offered £10 for the inconvenience (we have ordered £50+). "But we did give you a free bottle of coke sir" - I could have gone to Tesco for the a bottle of coke, I certainly here for food. Food wasnt all that hot & poor quality too.I just wouldnt waste your money or your time.
We are staying nearby so are not from the area. We found the Taj Mahal from a vegan blog saying the food was amazing and they can cater for a vegan diet. When booking a table the staff were very polite and accomodating. When arriving we were greeted with a friendly atmosphere. The waitress remembered we booked asking if they cater for vegans and we spoke to them about what is vegan on the menu. The food was delicious. All staff were friendly and helpful. Very relaxed atmosphere and would highly recommend. Thank you to the team.
Great dining experience. This is not just another Indian restaurant, this is a Nepalese restaurant serving Indian food as well.Go for the chef recommendations, you will be pleasantly surprised. The food is similar to some Indian dishes but quite unique. We enjoyed our meal and the beer, Nepalese, of course.Oh, the service is great too.Certainly will return when I am in the area again
Superb food and excellent service. The chicken jeera was one of the best Indian/Nepalese dishes I have tasted. The restaurant doesnt look much from the outside, but the decor inside is modern and attractive.
Really tasty curries, weve ordered here a few times. And very happy that they deliver beyond the normal radius of takeaway deliveries from Penzance. But if Im honest I would say that for takeaway they are perhaps a pound or two per item over priced. We will definitely order here again as the food is tasty but it has to be left to a very rare occasion due to the price...
A decent Indian/Nepali style restaurant. I would have give 5 Start had the portion sizes been a bit more generous.
Amazing tasty Indian food. They make it hot as per your requirement. Waiting time is more but it compensates on the food taste. Would recommend to visit them if you want to have an good Indian food.
