Taj Fine Indian Cuisine - Indian restaurant in Chico, United States
Before I would have rated this place 4/5 but today it was just horrible. The mango lacy and butter chicken were way to sweet. Ungodly sweet. I couldn’t even take more than a few sips of the mango lacy. Then while I was eating my nan and butter chicken i bit a rock in the food. YES A ROCK!!! not sure where it came from but it hurt and I’m lucky my tooth didn’t crack. Taj not sure if you got a new cook but cut back on the sugar and rocks In your food. I will try again in a few months to update this review.
This place has great Indian food, I love their butter chicken and chicken karma, the thali special is always really good I love the butter naun, the people are nice there to.
For dinner after work with the family. This is my absolute favorite. Their fresh cooked curries are so good, and with garlic naan... 🤤The staff is extra friendly and my 7yo daughter absolutely loves them.Great atmosphere and the food is really wonderful. My wife and I will sigh while eating and comment on how Taj has become our "comfort food" spot.A win every time weve gone, thanks Taj!
We visited Taj on a Friday night. The guys working in the restaurant were very friendly and showed us wonderful hospitality. The food was great and we all left happy. The lamb curry was particularly delicious.
Gogis Cafe is 1000x better!! Trust me its located right next to Chico state (:
Taste like dog food. Gogis Cafe is actually authentic Indian food this is like Chinese food
It was my first time being there. I was told they do not have menus. I was not sure I heard the stuff right. I said “no menu?” I am an Asian, and I have an accent. He said “no”. Then I walked inside the bar to see the food. Behind my back, that man was making joke of my accent very loudly shouting “no menu?” in a weird way. I left immediately.
This restraurant is one of my favorites here in Chico. The workers are very friendly and the service is fast. The manager works really hard to make sure the food taste great and the atmosphere is inviting. I highly recommend this place.
Great food and clean place, also good customer service by RAJ
I love taj, their food is amazing. Best Indian food in Chico & Raj is always nice & friendly.
Great Indian food and friendly service. Either a full dinner or quick buffet.
such a delicious food and great customer service by ~RAJ ~ i gonna come back i swear
We had a great dinner there and good customer service by the guy whos on front 👌
The best food in town , good prices and very yummy food . At last , the customer service by RAJ is amazing 👍
Best Indian food around. So much flavor and great prices for the portion sizes. There is not one thing I have tried that I didnt like. Everything tastes amazing and is cooked to perfection! Definitely recommend.
Always very accommodating make sure to try the sage paneer!
Best authentic Indian food in town, amazing customer service and very friendly. It’s worth the 2.5 hour drive. And for the amazing servers the tequila shots will be on us next time we visit.
To understand bad taste,,You have to have good taste!!Best taste have ever 😋😊
Huge place. I love the decor. The food looks simple but its delicious. I wanted the lamb curry but they were still making it. So I got the butter chicken and curry chicken. It was darn good. Too bad I couldnt try the lamb curry. The rice was cooked to perfection. The staff is friendly. The bathroom is clean. Ordered and paid upfront.
We had a great dinner here. I was a bit confused by how to order but the guy that served us explained it well. We both got the butter chicken and I also got chicken saag. Honestly the best value for money I have had for a long time. We both are very well for a good price and the place was nice and clean.
Went here for the first time yesterday. Food was yummy. Service wasnt terrible. We were greeted when we went in even though the worker was with someone else which I found to be kind. Guy answered a lot of my questions which helped me understand the menu options better.I liked that they cooked me fresh food if I made a full order bc I went there for something specific & they didnt have it out. (Good bc buffet style isnt the freshest food everBut I also got a 2 entre plate and it was a good portion of entre to rice ratio, and was not bad.Only complaint is the Aloo Gobi was a bit oily instead of the sauce like consistency that Im used to but still had a rly delicious flavor.
Ordered 3 different chicken dishes, full price. I received no more than 10 small cubes of chicken total between all 3. Im not exaggerating. Huge piles of rice and basically no other food. Terrible.
Went outside of my comfort zone and stepped into Taj Fine Indian Cuisine. Virtually empty when I went...plenty to choose from at the hot table! I got the 2 entree with rice plate ($9.99and the Garlic Naan ($2.99). I ordered the Lamb Curry and the Tandoori Chicken, then decided to also order the Karahi Chicken ($4.99for tomorrow. Piled HIGH, the smells assailed my nose when I opened the container. The vegetables were crisp, the sauces thick, and the meat cooked to fall-apart perfection. The Curry showed that the Naan was a necessary addition, as the spices were absolutely on point!! The Tandoori Chicken was in large chunks, and tasty and milder than the Curry. The rice was cooked perfectly...all I could do to finish my items, but I still have my Karahi Chicken for lunch. They even threw in a Julab Gamun ball for dessert! If you want an authentic Indian eating experience, eat at Priyas and pay the $$$ price, BUT if you want extremely taste-worthy food at a good $ price... go to Taj.
The food was ok. Ordered from grub hub. Did not get the drinks or dessert. Tried to call back and got a fax machine sound. I was ripped off. Got a ton of rice with tiny entree . Dang wasted my tiny budget for a splurge I thought would bw wonderful.
A best place to eat real Indian style food every thing is good service great cooking great very friendly and respectfully people we go 2 twice a week and dinning there some time we do phone order they are very busy no others Indian Resturant have that tasty food or service around this Chico area .Other Indian restaurant them food is not have the Punjabi style food the other place charge more then taj and less quantity .Taj is the best place for dining in or take out .I highly recmened to every one go try Once Taj food and you will love the food for ever .Waah TAJ .
The owner is a least respectful person(may be his brother)... m sure he could be the same with any other women as he was with a friend of mine . She was so disturbed with the words he used while eve teasing her n the way he behaved that it needs to be shared and talked...
A NOTICE FOR EVERY FEMALE OUT THERE , DONT GO IN THIS PLACE. THE OWNER EVE TEASED ME AND WHEN I TOLD HIM I WILL FILE A COMPLAINT, HE CALLED THE COPS ON ME AND TOLD THEM THAT I CREATED A SCENE AND HE DOES NOT WANT ME IN THERE EVER AGAIN.WHICH GIRL WONT CREATE A SCENE ON BEING EVE TEASED? EVEN THOUGH THE OFFICER AGREED WITH ME AT THE END BUT HE SAID THERES NOT MUCH HE CAN DO BECAUSE WHAT HE SAID TO ME GOES BY IN THE FORM OF FREE SPEECH BUT SINCE HE IS THE OWNER, HE HAS THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICE TO US.Thats why I decided to share the news with as many people as I can just so that they don’t have to go through what I went through. Please protect yourself and your daughters. I am adding picture of the owner just for everyone to be on a look out.
Pathetic food. Butter chicken was so stale. Being an Indian Chef I know Indian food very well and completely disappointing food. Even the meat was so stale and indian breads were very stinky. Yuck.
Never walk in this place. The owner eve teases women and gets away in the name of being an owner. There are multiple better options in this city for Indian cuisine nothing is worth a woman being eve teased.
I went to get the take away food, as I walked into the restaurant their was man standing on the counter didn’t make any eye contact or said hi. I tried to say hi to him instead he should be greeting me. The man completely ignored me, made me feel that I went in for free food. Then I tried to communicate with the cook regarding the meal options that I wanted to choose the cook didn’t answer my question properly. His explanation didn’t clear my question.I requested for a side dish with my food they missed it, and I had to ask third time to get the side dish.! Very poor experience I will never go back to this place.!
It’s been good 4/5 times I’ve been there. So it gets 4 stars. Last time the food was barely mediocre. But it’s reasonably priced, preprepared Indian food. I’ll go again.
I used to LOVE coming here when I went to Chico State! This was the spot that made me fall in love with Indian food. And the staff are always sooo nice! It’s a must visit every time I come to Chico❤️
Ive always loved Tajs food, but today I placed an order on grubhub. They didnt have cheese naan, so they just deleted the item from my order without calling me first to see if I wanted another type of naan. Then, they called me and said they didnt have the soda I wanted (which would havent been a big deal), but they also said that since they had already removed the naan from my order they couldnt add it again. The owner proceeds to tell me to just make an other order if I want naan with my food. Like no sir, I am not going to pay the delivery fee and all the other charges in grubhub again just because you couldnt give me a call to ask me if I wanted to substitute my cheese naan for something else. Making another order would have been 9 extra dollars on top of my already 17ish dollar order. Nothing would have been a problem if I had just been consulted first about my order.
Customer service was too notch. Made me feel like a King. Food was almost perfect as the lamb I was served was a little bit dry but mouthwatering. The aroma in the restaurant was heavenly. Need your Indian cuisine fix? This gem is the spot
We had food delivered. Food tasted good, but portions were very small for the price. Two tiny pieces of chicken and a giant heaping of rice is not what I call an entree. I was expecting more family style. A bit disappointed.
The food is fine. Not great, but quite okay. The price is very decent. One problem is that there was a person inside the place walking around the restaurant, speaking on the phone, without a mask. This is not okay in COVID times and the restaurant staff should step in to prevent this.
Pretty good prices, for some reason Indian food in Chico is expensive. The goat curry was great! The desserts aren’t great but they come free with the big plate meal, so gift horses and teeth ya know? Staff is nice. All in all more than mediocre less than the best, I plan on going again.
I have had more than one bad experience with the quality of food from here. Just last week I tried their chili chicken. I got two small pieces that tasted like they were coated in some sweet and sour sauce, it looked nothing like what is advertised. I gave them another try today, just to make sure it was not just an off day, but they altered my order on two of the items and only gave me half as much rice as normal. The items included were far below subpar in terms of flavor and overall quality. I try to support local businesses, but this one is not worth my money. Priya or even Gogi are much better for the price.
Been there twice now. First was their butter chicken: a very salty meal. Mediocre at best. Second was their goat curry. Had 2 fair sized pieces of bone in it.Do not recommend this place. Look elsewhere for quality.
For us, having food hot is essential. Unfortunately, most of the food is prepped and in chafing dishes that gives warm food that cools quickly on your metal serving plate. The good points are that the flavors are superb, there are many choices, the naan is the hottest and freshest we have experienced. The staff is very friendly and helpful! For hot food we will have to order the special.dishes that are cooked up in 10 to 15 mins.
Great Indian food served fast. The staff is always friendly and the garlic naan is divine! I have tried almost every entre and each one is terrific. Dont be fooled by the low prices this is great food at an affordable price. If you have never had Indian food before I highly recommend you try the buttered chicken and garlic naan. They will also let you try samples before you order, so if you arent sure what to get take a couple tastes I know you will find something delicious!
Good food, but mediocre service.Pro tip: Get the food to-go and eat it next door at Brew-kettle.Our server today was quite unfriendly... She acted like she really didnt want to be working there, and / or really didnt care to be taking our order. She wasnt busy with other tasks, she just didnt care to be interacting with patrons. It put a damper on the whole experience. The food was pretty darn good (having been to India several times, it was reasonably authentic).
The staff here was nice BUT it took 10 min to get our Naan with our to go order. We sat down next door and ate our food. The food was ok, just seemed diluted like they did it to appease the masses NOT be authentic, also it the butter chicken was entirely too sweet. After eating almost all my food I found a 2-3in black hair in my food. I dont have any hair that long so I know with a 100% certainty it wasnt mine. I absolutely will not be giving this place another chance...
The food always has good flavor! Only downfall, if eating there, it gets very warm in the building. Other restaurants that have been in this building in the past had the same problem. Highly recommend this place if craving Indian food in Chico.
Delicious and good portions. The staff were helpful, friendly and willing to make dishes fresh or from the buffet. One minor area that could be improved is that the TV’s had cricket playing but the feed was so bad that you could only watch it in 5 second snippets.Interior of restaurant is nicely laid out and clean. Best of luck!!!
My boyfriend and I were excited to try this place for the first time. Overall it was a great experience but with one exception. We were able to sample the food to find what we liked best. The food was delicious and at a great price. I was so disappointed with the cleanliness of the restrooms. Otherwise five stars all the way💯
So many wonderful things to say about this new little gem. I LOVE Indian food but have been disappointed by most places in Chico. My go to favorites have always been in Corning and Redding. But this place is great! Fantastic food, really kind and friendly staff, very cozy and such affordable pricing! All made from scratch and the Naan is made fresh to order.
Taj has sort of a cafeteria-style ordering system with metal trays, plastic utensils, & fill your own cups.As a newbie, I tried the butter chicken and goat curry along with some cheese naan. The goat curry was OK (it had a lot of bones), but the butter chicken and naan were superb. Prices were reasonable given the generous portions (I couldnt finish). There are a few lingering reminders of the old Pizza Factory, but overall the atmosphere is pleasant & relaxed with Indian decor and music. The staff is very nice and welcoming, especially for first timers.
Hey first time we came in here at around 8:30pm with good hope but we didnt receive good service at all. Chicken wasnt fresh and it was hard like rock. We hardly ate. So we had to throw everything in trash and left coz they were waiting for us to leave immediately at 9PM. but thats their closing time we understand that. Spent $30 for nothing. Didnt even offered us with water. Even paused the video in TV that we were watching while eating so that we hurry up n gulp the food n go. We felt uncomfortable and insulted. So we left the food as it is and we left from there. Food quality was poor.Customer service was bad. But ,,the place is neat and clean. No stars rated for now.
Ive been looking for a decent Indian place in Chico ever since I moved here from Yuba City, and I think Ive finally found the one. Portions were a bit small, but expected for the price. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
