Tai Tai - Asian restaurant in Brisbane, Australia
The food is amazing, but charging a 10% surcharge on Sunday with no explicit mentioning left a sour taste.
I absolutely love Tai Tai! The staff are so nice and the food is always delicious and flavourful. I like to go there at least once a month with my family, because we always have such a great time. The food is always fresh and cooked to perfection, and the staff are always so friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend Tai Tai to anyone looking for a great Asian dining experience!
Looks like an upmarket bar from the street, but Tai Tai is a cool inside/outside modern Asian eatery. We enjoyed spicy barra and perfectly cooked, generous char kway teow, and people-watched along busy Grey St. Great cocktail list, friendly service & very reasonably priced for a Southbank venue.
Stopped in here for dinner before our show. Needed a table for 2. Only spot was at the bar. This was perfectly fine with us. Noticed all the staff had smiles and were very friendly. Service was prompt. Our bar tender was very friendly and nice to chat to. Our food and drinks came within a very reasonable amount of time despite being busy. We ordered the crispy pork belly, vegetarian fried rice with egg and the mushroom vegetarian spring rolls. The fried rice was the best we have had in years. Can highly recommend. The spring rolls were the genuine handmade cigar type and very delicious. The pork belly was very tasty. Would have liked it to be a bit more crunchy but the taste and everything else about it was very tasty.Overall we are so very glad that we have discovered this place. We will definitely be back.
Came here for lunch,it was a wet raining day so atmosphere was a bit damp and gloomy. Very friendly and professional staff greeted us for the booking. Nice beer on tap Balter xpa. Good cocktail selection.
Amazing dim sum, incredibly generous servings of fried rice though meat content could of been better and the dish temperature was warm not hot.Great location and atmosphere
went over the restaurant for food last week & received horrible service by a waiter named TRISA. she was rude and ignorant, ordered hainanese chicken but received a cold chicken instead. Wrote in to the restaurant& received no reply from them. highly not recommended
Over priced for under flavoured food not impress with the mushroom dumplings could of been seasoned or sautéed but was just boiled mushroom the honey pork was dry and tough the boa buns weren’t the best as I’ve eaten many in my time and did not like those ones also as a chef I will say seeing the waitresses walk into the kitchen and eat in the kitchen where the chefs are preparing meals is not a good look and is a big no no with food health and safety not impressed.
Exceptional food service is great very nice and cosy in the management very very good I encourage anyone to go there it is absolutely beautiful
For those who like chilli, the Sichuan bang bang chicken is good. The Char Kway Teow was fried perfectly and was the better of the two dishes! The price is too high for these dishes unfortunately.
The food here was so delicious and full of flavour, we were particularly impressed with the pork bao buns. Its a great place to go for dinner, portion sizes are good and staff are friendly.
Great spot, delicious little plates and speedy service.
Great food. Always a pleasure. Definitely not your ordinary order by number Chinese. Exceptional food and service. Well worth a visit. Thank you
I really wanted to like this place, having read all the good reviews. Service was good, food came out quickly. Unfortunately did not enjoy the food at all - apart from the noodles, everything was quite bland and lacked flavour. The dumplings had an unusual sticky/chewy texture. Pork was lukewarm and cold in places. I ordered a non alcoholic drink thinking it would be a mocktail, but it was $13.5 for a can of pre mix ($19 for four at Woolies, for future reference). Overall the food was underwhelming and overpriced.
My friend and I reserved a table to eat at before a show. The food came out quickly and was very flavoursome. Whilst I found it a tad pricy it was worth it. I also had a delicious cocktail. The customer service was also very good. Will be back for sure!
Went for dinner last night, didnt had a booking 😕, where lucky to get a table for two , so reservation are recommended. The meals we had where very yummy. Vegetarian fried rice , BBQ pork. Prawns scallops and vegetables with ginger and garlic 😋
This dog friendly restaurant is the hype! It’s not often I can bring a Coco(dogwith me to nice establishments for dinner. Located in the hustle and bustle of Grey street, entertained by the surrounding and ambiance, dining with great company and the food was on point. Absolutely delicious fried rice and even tastier dumplings! (To the ownerPlease do lunch time yum cha! We would become regulars!!! This restaurant is a great place for Chinese cuisine! The meals are full of flavour, huge servings and great to share. The staff were excellent, friendly and attentive. They gave us great recommendations. We Can’t wait to go again!
Very tasty food will definitely go again!
Decided to get some prawn har gow for a takeaway lunch during a quick trip to Brisbane. The har gow was very tasty with a generous amount of filling. Staff were very friendly too. Will hopefully be able to try some other items on the menu next time.
Great place for pre-theatre dinner. Service is quick, and cheerful. Highly recommend the pork bao, pepper beef, and the greens. Looking around, the duck looks awesome, as does the fried rice. The atmosphere is good, although I wonder what it would be like if it rains - it is very open to the weather! Probably the best Chinese in South Brisbane - it is a little pricey, but the food is excellent.
We went to Tai Tai for a team lunch and we shared the vegetables, duck pancakes (best duck ever!and we also shared steamed fish and the dumplings, the food was out of this world, fresh, amazing. Great service, so friendly! Thank you Tai Tai! Highly recommend Tai Tai
Terrible service. We were waiting to get served for more then a hour. Theres no pictures here because we didnt receive any food. ENJOYED our bottle of wine and left with empty stomachs.
Great accommodating service. The steamed cod was absolutely amazing and one of the best steamed fish Ive ever had.
Such amazing food. Thai taken to the next level. Well worth the price. Great friendly service. Do yourself a favour and try the Deep Fried Milk.
Amazing food and service. Hands down the best fried rice and gf dumplings I’ve had! Will return for sure!
Visit there ar 5pm just before coming dark.Atmosphere was good but lots of flies, but it is okay.About food.I love dumpling. The prawn dumpling is normal it doesnt mean bad. However, Xia long bao was bad, when it served, it already tear and juice was disappeared.Crispy skin Duck (half)I expected Beijing Style duck but it is totally different.Wrapping system is same but status of duck is quite different.Yangzhou fried rice.It is Chinese style, big bowl, enough, enough, enough.Have a good time before musical time.
We enjoyed a lovely Saturday brunch at Tai Tai. The dumplings were served piping hot with soft, fresh wrappers and an abundance of tasty fillings. The pork was also delicious and we had a nice time, enjoying our meal with alfresco dining. Because Tai Tai is also in the heart of Southbank, be prepared to pay premium prices.
Delicious traditional Chinese cuisine.. Steamed ginger deep sea cod (my favouritedelicate, full of flavour and taste👌. Get assistance from staff if you are concerned about fish bones. I managed fine 🙂. Buddhas Delight: braised tofu, shiitake mushrooms, baby corns, sugar snap peas, lotus flower, carrots, celery. Assorted steamed dumpling and dim sum basket.
Wonderful atmosphere with a very open layout, and in an area of Southbank thats easily accessible but a bit quieter than the busy centre. Our server Lara was wonderful and recommended delicious dishes! Its not cheap food, but well worth the price and theres more affordable options. Cocktails were fantastic, and there are also more affordable options i.e. there are meals and cocktails for $40+ but there are also delicious options for $20+Thank you for a wonderful new years dinner!!
All the dishes that my friends and I ordered today were really good. Xiao long bao was flavourful and juicy, 3 cups chicken were good (not overpowered by basilwith the chicken being tender and not too salty, stir fried vegetable (is like any Chinese stir fried vegetable, nothing to fault with& the fried rice is really good (not salty, tasty and fragrant). The best dish for me would be the salt and pepper calamari. Its not oily for a deep fried food, salty enough that youre not dying of thirst after eating it & it goes perfectly well with rice.
Best service, great menu and delicious flavours.Ive walked past Tai Tai at least twice a week and always thought I must try them one day. Tonight I did and I wish Id gone sooner.Ashley and his team were amazing and attentive. We asked for Ashleys favourite items and he delivered with a range of seafood and pork entrees and mains that were beautiful. So excited to have the experience and will certainly go back in future.
Our meal here was “nice” at best. The food is tasty but the meat itself had no flavour without sauce in the same mouthful. The roadside location does not provide a relaxing or enjoyable ambiance at all. The high price, lack of service, and particularly the poor attitude and arrogance of Ian the Venue Manager, far outweigh any positives. The best thing about this place is how close it is to QPAC for a pre show meal. It’s a shame the manager doesn’t understand this and staff appropriately. Won’t be back.
A good solid Chinese that takes me back to yester year memories of the old Chinese your parents used to take you to back in the 1970s - 80s. Service is good. The restaurant seating is comfortable however completely open to the outdoor temperatures so get rugged up in winter. My favorites by far were the pork char sui, deep fried frozen milk and the noodles. Other dishes to note were the sweet and sour Barramundi and frozen ice cream for their memory jolting value. Pricing is good for what is offered. Enjoyed it, but feel there are better options for Chinese out there. A solid 3.5 star but cant give that so had to put 3.
The duck and mushroom dumplings were a real surprise. Absolutely delicious. The Xiao Long Bao werent the nicest Ive had as the pastry was much thicker than I am used to. That said, they had the most authentic tasting dipping sauce Ive had in Australia. The Hainanese chicken was delicious but they missed a huge opportunity to serve with rice that had been cooked in the poaching broth, arguably the best part of the dish traditionally.
We didnt eat here this time , but was drawn in to the bar by the lighting and set up we could see from across the road , Ian the barman was knowledgeable with his recommendations and cocktails were amazing , tbh it was the best espresso Martini I have had yet !! We will be back for a meal next time
Love this place. Excellent Chinese food. Delicious. Duck is wonderful, a very generous serving. Lots of flavours in every plate. Service is top notch
Amazing food. Great atmosphere. Will definitely come back.Would love to see more vegan and vegetarian options including a soup please.
As a Chinese who lived in Hong Kong for 7 years and visited Taiwan for many times. I highly recommend you come to Tai tai and check out the food here. My friends are Aussie and European and they all love this place. Authentic food, good atmosphere, what’s more, awesome staff member who are helpful, friendly and lovely.Actually we stay in Brisbane 2 days and come to this place 2 times already ❤️
This place has the best Xiao Long Bao Ive ever tasted. Would go back just for these. We also had the crispy skin bbq pork belly and the cha siu pork which were also mouth watering. Asked for a red recommendation to which they provided an excellent drop. Will return.
Excellent food with great services. Recommended 👍Chinese cuisine is an important part of Chinese culture, which includes cuisine originating from the diverse regions of China, as well as from Overseas Chinese who have settled in other parts of the world. Because of the Chinese diaspora and historical power of the country, Chinese cuisine has influenced many other cuisines in Asia, with modifications made to cater to local palates. Chinese food staples such as rice, soy sauce, noodles, tea, and tofu, and utensils such as chopsticks and the wok, can now be found worldwide. The preference for seasoning and cooking techniques of Chinese provinces depend on differences in historical background and ethnic groups. Geographic features including mountains, rivers, forests and deserts also have a strong effect on the local available ingredients, considering that the climate of China varies from tropical in the south to subarctic in the northeast. Imperial, royal and noble preference also plays a role in the change of Chinese cuisines. Because of imperial expansion and trading, ingredients and cooking techniques from other cultures are integrated into Chinese cuisines over time.
I had a great dining experience in Tai Tai.. they have a very friendly and efficient service. The food is really great. When I went that time they had a special for on the Wonton and the Spicy Mongolian Chicken.. for 10.00 dollars it was more than worth it. The ceramics are so fancy.. I love the colors and designs..theyre picture perfect and a great addition to your foodie photography. Tai Tai is a must visit if you are aroundSouth Brisbane, Queensland... it is by the Brisbane River where the Wheel of Brisbane and the Iconic BRISBANE sign are.
Great location if going to a show at QPAC, but probably need more staff as they were super busy, but still very friendly and doing their best. We ordered the prawn dumplings- delicious! Next was the salt and pepper squid which was so-so, and I thought expensive at $26. I was excited when I saw crispy eggplant on the menu as Id eaten it at The Malaya in Sydney and it was fab. For some reason the chefs at Tai Tai had slathered the eggplant in a superthick batter and deep fried it, so that the eggplant was barely detectable. $22 for basically batter. I noticed that the table next to ours had a big pile of batter left on the plate as the honey prawns theyd ordered looked fabulous, but maybe not ..... The pineapple nonya prawns were impressively presented and tasted great, but soooo difficult to eat as they were served in the shell and with sauce. Super messy and no finger bowl or extra napkins were offered. Overall, service was friendly, 2 out of 4 dishes were nice, but it was expensive for what we received.... and I hope they change their batter recipe.
Generously portioned delicious Chinese cuisine, nice alfresco atmosphere and short but thoughtful wine list. We did enjoy our girls night out here.
Love this place. Perfect for pre theatre or if like us on this occasion, a post matinee mealFood is first class. Menu choice is excellent. Staff efficient & friendly.A booking, although not required most times I would recommend one. Haven eaten at lots of other restaurants in the area. This is now our go to place.
Service is great, setting is comfortable even though the tables are close to one another. Food is quick to come out but still fantastic quality. They have some unique drinks I would recommend (smoked lemonade etc). Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Highly recommend for a date night, still very suitable to go with friends.
Pretty average Chinese cuisine at CBD Prices. The soup was quite gloopy but the pork & chinese cabbage pot stickers were quite good. Service was slow in a half full restaurant around lunch which was surprising
Delicious Chinese-inspired cuisine in a fantastic location. The service was excellent - they had asked when our QPAC show was starting so they could plan the kitchen’s preparation of our food.As we had a few drinks beforehand, we didn’t try the cocktail menu. It appeared quite expensive but we weren’t sure if they were glasses or jugs.Food-wise, we had a delicious tofu dish, seafood noodles and a beef dish. For a starter we had wild mushroom dumplings which were delicious. I’d love to come here again - great for small groups and bookings are essential.
Oh yes, so this was very nice.I will set the scene, but first let me say that the young Asian gentleman who served us on Sunday the 1st of September was simply incredible. He was very good with our young daughter, and helpful with the menu and suggestions. I am sorry I did not get your name, sir, but you were exceptional.Now. We were going to go somewhere else. And then we needed to change our baby. So, while we did that I noticed that across the road was Tai Tai. Cool. I knew nothing about it. I read some reviews. Seemed good. And away we went!We mistakenly ordered the mushroom dumplings. Don’t do that. But the Hainanese chicken was exceptional. Exceptional. The lamb ribs were very good, but the four stars come from the service and the chicken. Incredible!
We were so excited to try Tai Tai as there isnt really any other great Chinese places around. My expectations going in were high from looking at the items on the menu and I was not disappointed. We ordered the pepper beef which was cubed and pink on the inside, very delicious!Xiao Long Bao and Har Gau dumplings were great and pretty close to authentic versions we have experienced in China previously. The crispy duck pancakes was also tasty and my only criticism was it was a little messy having to cut it up ourselves. Edit - our last visit the duck was cut up for us and this made it easier to enjoyWe will definitely be back to this gorgeous open air restaurant.
Enjoyed the experience with a great selection of food to cater for any type of dining. All outdoor seating as its an open area but well covered. Friendly service and delicious cocktails.
