Taberna La Malagueña - Tavern in Malaga, Spain
Taberna La Malagueña in Malaga
Description
Really good food next to the cathedral
Its best to book early, we booked around midday for the evening, friendly staff and great food, always go there when visiting Malaga this was our 4th time.
MoreGreat sangria, food was moderate. Atmosphere was really nice.
Nice location, lovely paella. Had to queue for a while to get a table but were given a complimentary drink each whilst waiting! A great evening
MoreThe service was very fast but the food was really heavy and fried and overpriced. I would say this place is a tourist trap and I recommend setting your standard to a minimum of 4.7 stars during your stay in Malaga. For whatever reason, we found the food in Malaga to be worse than any other part of Spain we visited. That said, we enjoyed the rest of our meals out in Malaga after establishing a minimum threshold for restaurant Google ratings and doing our research before just stumbling into a restaurant.Trust me—4.7 stars or higher only. Even then, you will probably be disappointed here and there if your expectations are for fine cuisine. The food is much better in Sevilla.
MoreSuperb experience. Food, drinks, staff. All fabulous
The paella is amazing! Only thing the service a bit slow due to high number of clients but food quality is really good and the views of the cathedral amazing! Worthy to give it a try!
MoreGreat location, courteous staff, delicious and well presented food.
The best vegetarian paella you can taste.
Amazing 🥘! Especially the one with vegetables.
Fabulous food right in the middle of Malaga right by the cathedral live music played while we ate and people watched sadly I didnt take any photos but please be assured it was beautiful and atmospheric we ate and remained there drinking wine coffee watching the world go by
MoreFood was ok, service was fine.
They removed the tablecloth, just because we didnt want to eat, but to drink. I dont recommend.
MoreAbsolutely loved this stunning little place. The atmosphere is incredible, located in the middle of a piazza, in front of the Cathedral. The seafood paella we had was so delicious (they finally put enough salt in for my liking!). Such an ambience. SUCH an ambience! 😍😍😍
MoreOutstanding vegan dishes...the best we have had on our vacation. Our favorite dishes were rhe Mango Salad and the Vegan Tapa sampler. Delicious!
MoreWaiter was completely useless, still sleepy or his mind in a galaxy far far away. The food was not so bad, just i had more empty space in the plate than food. I left this place still hungry and woth too many euros less in my pocket. I do not recommend for my point of view
MoreA nice place. Not that expensive for being in the tourist quarter.
We had delicious paella. Waiters were very nice. Everything went quickly. When we needed sth they were always by our table. Great wine and very good bread. We also got free olives with wine 😁👍
MoreNice food, friendly staff.
Excellent food, very large portions and the sangria was delicious. Food is a bit more expensive because you’ve got a great location and view of the cathedral.
MoreHorrible food. Expansive considering the quality of the food. Worst salad and steak I’ve ever tried.
MoreIts a very ordinary and fairly typical Andalusian restaurant, not expensive but not cheap. Quite pleasant. Its in a very nice central location opposite the fountain in plaza Obispo, with a view of the west side of the cathedral.Lit up in the evening, La Malaguetas setting in the square makes it possibly worth a visit. We just had drinks. 10 euros for a soft drink, a wine and a sangria.A busker played piano reasonably well, so we paid him - but on other occasions you may get much less talented people practising singing or guitar, and touting for cash, which can be intrusive. The same applies for hawkers selling watches and jewellery. There was a street performer on a plinth in the square but he didnt pester restaurant customers for money - it was quite fun watching children who were passing by, so going in the evening you may get entertained.
MoreBeautiful spot and friendly though young and inexperienced staff (or so it seemed).I had to send back a glass of red wine that tasted like water (which I didnt have to pay for). The sweet Malaga wine was very good! The mix of five tapas was not very imaginative, but ok.
MoreNice staff, reasonable drink prices considering its a prime location square. The paella was atrocious. No taste at all, bland vegetables, wet rice.
MoreFood was good but the young , very short , dark haired waiter today (Mondaywas very rude and appeared very lazy . When I spoke to him in Spanish he kept saying he doesnt understand me and that I can speak English. I refused cos I knew what I said was short and easily understood. The young lady waiter was brilliant and seemed to be doing all the work .
MoreI would like to give more stars ⭐️ then 5 but this is the limit! It was really nice and beautiful 🤩 experience to enjoy 😉 dinner with my wife in Taberna La Malagueña restaurant!Staff was really nice 👍 helpful and very polite, little bit strange because is not that they can speak 🗣 English language..!Food 🍱🥘 🍲 was really really tasty 😋 and delicious 🤤Peale it was really very tasty 😋About wine i would say it was very tasty 😋 local white wine.Definitely i will visit again because i really enjoy ☺️I would recommend this restaurant to everyone who live in Malaga, Spain 🇪🇸 and i would recommend to everyone who will visit Malaga, Spain 🇪🇸Absolutely this is on ☝️ of the best restaurant in Malaga!
MoreWe ordered Paella with vegetables which was good but it could be better. Nice view though. They brought us olives as a snack which were delicious. To be fair they brought us a lot of snacks for free. We weren’t expecting that - nice ☺️
MoreExcellent service and very tasty food. Also, the place is very nice situated in a piazza on the front of the Málaga Cathedral
MoreThe food was ok, but the service was of a poor quality. Also, at the end, we requested the check and waited for 10 mins, as the waiter forgot, even if he brought the check to the table next to us (we asked for the 2nd time and after he brought the drinks to another table, he came to us after he saw our sign, as he was going again in another direction). All this happened, when only 40-50% of tables were occupied and there were 4 waiters...
MoreThe food is really great and the staff is very friendly and kind. Definitely I will come back and highly recommend the place. 😍
MoreGreat food and staff, beautiful location with a view in the city center, near the Cathedral.
MoreHad patatas bravas, ham croquettes, gazpacho glass and the non-descript marinated battered fried fish. The fish was raw and had large bone chunks and was almost completely bland. All our other food was passable, great even, but the fish was horribly subpar. The worst was getting the staff to notice that we hadnt eaten or touched our plates for 20+ minutes. They werent busy at all; 2 waiters for 4 tables that already had their food. I didnt want to raise my hand and make a scene, I just wanted the fish gone.Eventually the waiter noticed me staring in his direction, he smiled and asked if it was good. I said no and he took it away and didnt charge us for it. If he would have noticed my obvious distaste I would have waited for them to bring a second plate, but my partner had already finished and it was too little to late. For a seaside town I dont think anyone should have to be worried about raw fish.
MoreFriendly staff and a very pleasant place to sit and admire the cathedral. We had some delicious papas bravas and grilled vegetables as we listened to the lady who sings outside the cathedral (drop her a few coins as well she has a beautiful voice and smile).Tip: Just dont nibble the bread unless you want to pay 1 euro.
MoreWorst paella ever,, was not cooked well, the crayfish was FLAT spoiled and meatless,, what a waste of money and time... BAD EXPERIENCE
Morepoor service, after 15 minutes the drink was taken up, half an hour later we were able to order the food, people who arrived much later had already finished eating before our dish was served. In addition, the gluten-free range was hugely disappointing, unlike all our previous Spanish experiences! Customer friendliness is also super bad!
MoreService was good, quality of food (5 mixed Tapaswas good. Prices a bit high so you need to calculate some extra money of you want to eat here. The position right at the cathedral is very nice, so we guess this is the reason why the prices are that high.
MoreThe food was okay, and the service was quick. The big downside was that the staff was talking loudy about the guests, which I didnt think was very professional. The location is amazing though and they have a very nice restaurant!
MoreThis restaurant is conveniently located right next to the cathedral of Málaga. It is just 200 meters away from the city parc of Málaga and only 300 meters away from the port of Málaga. There is a really nice atmosphere around the square and you can easily spend a couple of hours there drinken sangria and watch those silly tourist making selfies with the cathedral and/or fountain behind them. The sangria was really lovely by the way. The only thing we were not that happy about, was the speed of the personell when we asked for the check. That took way too long. Other than that, we have really enjoyed our stay there!
MoreThis restaurant is in a cluster opposite the museum in a busy square. Had a couple of drinks here & the food looked good so we went back for meal.Looks can be deceptive. We chose the sharing tapas for two persons again presented well but very bland offerings especially the fish goujons which were in very soggy batter, two more unmemorable dishes also batter were tasteless the the other two were patatas bravas & tomato & onion salad were OK, difficult to spoil them anyway. The service was slow as well, so overall a disappointment.
MoreEnjoy place and amazing food!!!!!
Really bad food. We had the 5 tapas to share and we had to return it, after having only tasted each dish. Then they charges us for the tapas and the bread basket (which we didnt touch btw). But thankfully after some arguing they only charged us for drinks. Would really not recommend this place.
MoreHorrible service, the waiters are not divided on zones or not having one waiter for the same table. It looks like you are ordering to the walls (English or Spanish they still.forget your order by the time they have to.give it to the kitchen, totally unprepaired). The terasse full means waiting for a paella for at least 1h. We never tried it as we decided.to.go for smth else after waiting 1h...terrible.
MoreVery nice place oposite the catedral, great food (paella, cesar salad), good price and friendly staff.
MoreHeated terrace right across the Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga. Friendly service, good food, reasonable prices. Street artists playing live music. Nice atmosphere.
MoreAmazing sangria, the best Ive ever had so far...., we tried two different ones here loved both
MoreGood place for a dining. In front of Málaga Cathedral. However, staff is a bit rough, quality of food is average, Paella came back bit burned in the middle. I wouldnt go again if I have the choice.
MoreMussels are about the size of a fingernail, tasty, and tough texture. I ordered salad with it, but it was much better. It is not recommended.
MoreWe only had a couple of beers each, but we had to wait around 20 minutes and ask three times for the second one. The staff didnt speak English too. Ive seen better in Malaga.
MoreFood is very good, portions are quite large. The staff is friendly and the location is excellent. Street artists perform in the evening right next to the tables (and with some luck, you can have quite the experience, depending on who is performing). Prices are decent, Sangria is very good. Service is also quite fast.Daca sunteti romani, mergeti neaparat aici, nu veti regreta!
MoreHad a very nice paella here for lunch. Very friendly and accomodating staff
