Szechuan Gourmet in Cleveland

So heres the deal, you might think you dont like tofu. Youre wrong, you just havent had mapo tofu from here yet. Its amazing, its spicy and well balanced with umami and savory flavors. Just get it and thank me later. Make a little extra rice if you get takeout, its so good youll want to try to stretch it to two meals but I bet you wont because youll finish it.

Based on the many great reviews of this place my wife and I tried eating here. There isnt really anything positive I can say about Szechuan Gourmet. All the food we ordered was subpar at best. Scallion pancakes were very greasy and had no flavor. Hot and sour soup tasted "odd". Fried dumplings were mushy and nearly flavorless. Chicken with mushrooms was bland and came with a very small amount of rice. Szechuan chicken was half peppers and half chopped chicken chunks in a flavorless sauce. My wife and I have eaten Asian and szechuan in many different cities and this place was worse than a cheap Asian buffet. Im guessing all the positive reviews are either not genuine or they just have no idea what good Asian food tastes like. The service was also horrible throughout our meal many staff members were eating at a table in the dining room and ignoring customers. When we completed our meals the wait staff couldnt be bothered to get up from the table they were eating at to give us our check. We waited over 20 minutes to get our check. Overall one of the worst dining experiences we have had.

The true hidden gem of Cleveland, Hands down best Chinese restaurant in town. Me and the wife visit here every week. Its our "Goto" for something delicious when we dont want to cook.

My husband and I love this place. Its our favorite place to go. Very tasteful. He loves spicy food. I tried there sliced beef with bell peppers and onions for the 1st time and I loved it. So good!! Would recommend this place to anybody. Great food and good prices!!!! The pepper steak is our favorite and the spicy shrimp dish is my favorite as well. And they shrimp fried rice is a must to try. Always fresh and delicious.

Delicious, no matter what you get!! Ive been eating here regularly for the past 10 years and have never been disappointed! Best Chinese around!!The Dry Pot is there signature dish and a personal favorite.Great vegetarian options; the eggplant dishes are another favorite.Spiciness of each dish is easily adjusted, just ask.I personally recommend the spicy wonton appetizer and hot and sour soup for starters, but definitely try one of their Hot Pots!

Szechuan Chicken portion was so small. Only half were given for take out compared to dine in.

Im half Chinese and new to Cleveland, and I can happily say that this is the first authentic and first good Chinese restaurant Ive found, and its wonderful. I brought my white fiance and he had the chicken and peppers dish, which he liked a lot. I had the fried spicy chicken with dried peppers and fried dumplings and both were very good. I got mapo tofu and long green beans to go and those are really tasty as well. I would recommend this place!

Very good authentic and traditional Chinese food. If youre looking for what Chinese people actually eat I strongly recommend you give this place a shot.

I love this place!!! If you are craving authentic Chinese cuisine this is the closest to it!!! I lived in China for a bit and when I get cravings for some Szechuan cuisine this is my hotspot! Absolutely love the spicy cold cucumber it is so refreshing yet spicy all at the same time, it is so delicious and their spicy beef brisket is excellent! The meat in the soup is always super tender!!!

No atmosphere. Drinks served in cans. No glass. No ice. Food was ok. Main course with white rice. Servers on phones. No service.

The food is very tasty. The beef noodle soup especially is the most authentic around town. The place is clean and roomy. We will definitely come again.

Fantastic food. Friendly, prompt service. Love this place. The spicy garlic pork is a treat. Lots of Chinese eat here so you have some confidence that the food is reasonably "authentic." Its nice enough for a date, casual enough to ask your neighbor what theyre eating. Definitely worth exploring deeper into the menu beyond the American favs. For example, you should definitely try the spicy shredded pork.

Szechuan Gourmet, Strongsville, is my new go to Asian restaurant. Best Szechuan chicken I’ve had. Very friendly staff as well. Keep up the good work!

Best Asian food in all of Strongsville. Everything we had was phenomenal. We order the scallion pancakes, the Dried Szechuan Chili Chicken & Peanuts as well as the Mushroom Chicken. Would gladly come back again (and soon for that case).

Have been here multiple times already, it is my friends favorite place to go for Chinese food! Its great to bring a large group and share a lot of different meals, but some of our favorites are the twice cooked pork, the cumin lamb, and the eggplant dish. Portion sizes are great and service is friendly!

Great food and great service! We were a party of 10 and they were soo accommodating. The lady server was very polite and the food came out pretty quick and very delicious. Would recommend and would def come back!

This is a very unassuming little diner tucked away in the back of the Asia town plaza. This was the best Szechuan Ive ever had in my life. It was very very spicy but totally worth it. Best egg roll ever if you are into that. I also got the hot tea which was delicious. Not your standard green tea which was a nice change in pace. The menu is massive, its like the cheesecake factory of Szechuan. I added pics of each page.

Me and some friends visited 𝐒𝐳𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐭 🇨🇳🍲 and had a sublime dining experience! We were sat within 10 seconds of entering. The server was very attentive. We ordered sweet and sour shrimp, fried tofu with mixed veggies and veggie fried rice with shrimp 🍤 🍚. Good food, great time!

Went for lunch on a Friday with a friend. Its a clean place. There were 2 other people there when we arrived. There were many employees eating together at a table shortly after we arrived. The food was disappointing. Sad, actually. Next time we crave dim sum i will make it myself.

Dishes are so tasty like in China. Not too salty not too oily. Just fine and authentic. I haven’t been to all the Chinese restaurants in CLE and this is the best so far.

This is one of my favorite restaurants. I have had a number of menu items and havent disliked one yet. I do have my favorites but like to explore! The food is amazing, everyone is very nice, and the environment is welcoming. The korean soap operas on the televisions is a unique and interesting touch. Definitely get the chili wontons to start off and then explore from there! You wont be disappointed.

I especially enjoy the lunch specials which are now carry out only due to COVID. Dan Dan Noodles, Pork with garlic sauce, and a personal favorite...tangerine beef. The hot and sour soup is the best in the city.Amazing value and consistently good food. I’m looking forward to dining in again.

So THIS is what Chinese food is supposed to be! If you love your normal, neighborhood takeout Chinese food place, then Szechuan Gourmet is going to blow your mind. Everything has so much flavor. Its like your normal things you order, but on steroids. Ordered for the first time through Uber Eats and my family cant wait to order again.

This restaurant is exceptional! The food is fantastic. Quickest way to visit China without a passport. Highly suggest the spicy dried pot, as it is full of flavor and not too spicy. The Szechuan dried pepper chicken with peanut is tasty and will set your tastebuds ablaze (only order if you woke up feeling dangerous). Great service, particularly in these challenging times.

Hands down our favorite stop in Asiatown. The Szechuan dried pepper chicken with peanuts is........remarkable. Crunchy spicy goodness. The salt & pepper tofu is a very close second. Just perfect. They are doing takeout only during COVID, and everything was packaged very nicely and stayed hot during our 30 minute drive home.

This was my first time coming here only went because of the reviews. I was totally disappointed that I spent 42.00 on food that was not good at all . I asked for shrimp fried rice, but NEVER seen white shrimp fried rice !!! I purchased a sesame chick, and generals chicken which was extremely dry no sauce for the rice period. The general was not chicken it was nothing but dough and the same for sesame dough which was missing the chicken. I love crab Rangoon I have never had salty Rangoon not good at all. They don’t make shrimp egg rolls and I will NEVER go there again. If I could take away the 1 star and give NO stars I would.

This place was amazing. Shopped the Asian market for my daughters birthday and stopped next door for dinner. Szechuan Gourmet has a vast menu, hard to decide what to eat. We had a party of 5 and all got something different. Very large portions, enough to share. Delicious food and good service. Reasonable priced too.

Terrible terrible terrible. Absolutely awful. We went on Thanksgiving. And I guess they thought I wouldn’t tip because of the color of my skin, so the service was just as bad as the food. Everything was nasty. Spicy dumpling appetizer was oily and vile. Pork mei fun had nothing but salt in it, and it was nothing but pasty noodles. The pork with spinach was greasy slices of pork belly with some overcooked poorly seasoned spinach. Horrible. Don’t waste your money here folks. Just go somewhere else for the love of God

A great experience, a very nice and comforting setting and great staff. The menu is very large and very diverse, a great place to try something new! The food is also very excellent and tastes very fresh. Portions are extremely generous and you will most likely be leaving with a box. I would highly recommend this restaurant, it offers a great taste of culture to Cleveland and is very delicious!

Generous servings of tasty food for a decent price, but not much else of note. Dont get me wrong, everything I ate here was great. Definitely try the pork country ribs or the beef tripe and tendon. But the restaurant itself is in need of some fresh decor and the staff...well they could be a little more receptive. Great for a quick bite.

You know when you order food and it looks amazing and you cant wait to taste it, but honestly, most of the time the flavor is just kind of disappointing?? This is the opposite of that. Super fresh and amazingly flavorful. Best hot tea Ive ever had in a restaurant.

My coworker and I went here after a long day of field work and ordered way too much food -- smashed cucumber salad, eggplants in black bean sauce, stir fried leeks and tofu, and a vegetarian dry pot. It was entirely worth it! Food is cooked right, and the spice level for all of the dishes was entirely what I would expect. That said, be aware that if you have a low spice threshold you might need to speak up for yourself and see if theyll tone it down on a couple of dishes (the dry pot esp! I loved it, my coworker couldnt eat that much.Will definitely be back when Im in Cleveland again!

My experience dining here was lovely. We came here after exploring asiatown and the eatery itself was conveniently located next to the asian grocer known as Tink Holl. We decided to dine here since it is one of the few Chinese Hot Pot establishments on the east side. We ended up choosing to our advantage. The interior is trendy, service was remarkably prompt and attentive to us and the food was authentic, flavorful, and came at a good value. $$$ I ordered Conch meat on a bed of hot, buttered chives. Oh, it was unique and again, remarkably extraordinary. We felt like Szechuan brought all of the culture of mainland China right to our table. The menu itself is XL and there are more than 5 pages worth of dishes to choose from + a specials menu. Menu items are listed in English and Mandarin & to go menus are bilingual as well. All in all, I would absolutely return, my experience was comfortable, culturally unique and satiating.

Food was pretty good! There was a lot of flavor, but I felt it needed some salt to wake it up. Very generous portions, extremely courteous and prompt staff.

In Chinatown. Food is absolutely delicious! My favorite is #59. The dumplings are fantastic.

I would definitely go as far as to say this is my favorite Chinese food in Cleveland. Every time I go I tend to order the same thing, but its because it is so good! The appetizers there are to die for and my favorite entree is definitely the lamb with cumin. I always make sure to bring anyone new to Cleveland to Szechuan and will continue to! The area is definitely pretty cool and is worth checking out for anyone who is not familiar with it.

As a native Chinese I would say this restaurant is very very authentic chinese taste. The price is fair. And there are lots of Chinese eating and serving it really gives me the home feeling. Strongly recommend!

Very authentic. My favorite Chinese food in Cleveland. I love the dry pot but you have to ask for the order form/menu separately. But Ive never been disappointed ordering from their standard menu either. Love the squid in three cups sauce, also the sauteed kidneys. One note of caution though. For some bizarre reason, they leave the plastic wrap on the imitation crab when they cook it, so dont swallow any plastic

Ive been here three times in the last year. Ive been looking for edible Chinese food in Cleveland for 20 years and Ive finally found it.The menu is huge, the food is ALWAYS fresh, interesting, and properly prepared. Kudos to the kitchen - theyve nailed everything Ive ever ordered. I recommend going with a party of 4 or more so you can share a few dishes and sample as much as possible.Keep up the great work!
