21 New Globe Walk, Bankside, London SE1 9DT, Pati
Modern riverside bar & restaurant, linked to Shakespeare's Globe theatre, with Thames views.
We dropped in here for the sandwich and glass of wine after visiting the Tate Modern. The service was great and we had our lunch in no time. The chicken sandwich was delicious.
We had a lovely afternoon tea!Food was great, staff were lovely and they catered well to my nut allergy.Thank you!
Great Afternoon Tea in a very scenic place. Staff wery very friendly and attentive. Different menu options for Afternoon teas (savoury, vegan, vegetarian etc.). We were celebrating a birthday and were given a lovely table with amazing views, as well as a little birthday treat. Would highly recommend.
Went there for a work event. The food and service was very good. The fruit salad was amazing, a good mix of fresh fruites and berries. The one complaint I had was that couple of plates we were given hadnt been washed and there were still bits of food attached.Otherwise food was of very good quality and there was plenty to go round. Tea, coffee and pastries were good too. All in all a very good place, shame about the dirty plates.
Outstanding. We’ll above my expectations. Best fish and chips I’ve had in London. Perhaps anywhere. View was stunning overlooking the river and over to St Paul’s. Decor was relaxing. Service was great. Craft beer was local, interesting and good.
Yum! We got dinner here before seeing a show at the Globe. Service was great, food was even better! We would absolutely come back, super convenient right next to the theater. We got the sourdough bread (complimentary), ribeye, the pork belly, and the sticky toffee pudding. All excellent!
Nice and convenient as it’s attached to the Globe for dinner before a show. They were very busy and seemed a bit stretched however in terms of service being slow for courses. However, the staff was friendly and courteous. Th vegetarian polenta squash kale meal lacked flavor. I wish it had been seasoned. The love potion cocktail was delicious.
Almost every eatery along this part of the south bank is part of a chain… not so the Swan. This is a proper pub serving really good food and boasting a varied menu. Its not cheap but given its position, I wasn’t shocked at the prices. It’s most definitely the best place to eat if you are going to the Globe.
We had a pretty nice lunch today for our wedding anniversary. The staff were polite and friendly from the moment we walked in. The staff immediately showed us to our table over looking St Pauls Cathedral which was a good move by the team.I had the prawn cocktail and she had the scallops: both were fabulous and a joy.The rib eye steaks were cooked as we ordered but must admit my steak had a bit too many connective tissue and fat. Other than that it was a great steak with the accompanying baby gem, and they gave us both the bernaise sauce and pepper corn sauce which was nice of them. However the skinny chips had a bit too much salt. The broccoli was delicious and perfectly cooked. The dessert was okay but the parfait was pretty sour. The pot of tea was definitely worth the money - huge pot; made her day 👍.Overall good food and experience minus the couple of negatives. If it wasnt for the negative points, would have given 5*.
I called them for an afternoon tea at a good table and they said okay. Monday no one sits at the table but they were like no we have a reservation at that table and we overpay for something not desirable. The quality of service was poor. I dont do usually comments. But this restaurant is a real disappointment. :( Also super cold. Im sorry for it. I wish you will be better soon. Because you say this in English Restaurants. You can do better than this to show your welcoming culture.
Starters and dessert were great. However, a few years ago I had the Sunday roast beef at the Swan at the Globe. It was fantastic, which was the reason come again for a lunch on the Sunday. This time, unfortunately, the roast beef was not up to standard, chewy and very underdone. Disappointing experience.
Baby / toddler friendly. Its a great restaurant. I went there expecting upper crust gastropub, I got a middle market fine dine experience. The three course menu is great value! My favourite thing was the complementary bread and butter and the main course/roast. Really good drink selection and the waiting stuff have a great eye for detail.
I had a really pleased experience at Swan at the Globe. Very nicely decorated inside and with beautiful views over the River Thames, St Pauls Cathedral and other central landmarks. The staff was polite and welcoming and we were seated immediately. The place is very clean throughout. The food was very nicely presented and reasonably priced. They have a set menu that is very affordable. I had the 3 meals set menu and all the dishes I choose were really nice and tasty. I totally recommend the mushroom soup, pork cheeks and the fig tart. You wont be disappointed. I would definitely come back hopefully with a table by the window for the best city views. Enjoy!
Our Romeo and Juliet afternoon tea was just perfect, freshly prepared and so tasty, the staff were so attentive and polite, we were lucky to have a table overlooking the sights of London. We didnt feel rushed....Would thoroughly recommend!Plus helpful tips from the staff to finish off our day was most welcome.
Great food, atmosphere and service, with a lovely view across the Thames to St Pauls.
This is a fabulous restaurant with amazing views. The service is flawless and the food presentation is gorgeous. I had the 3-course set dinner for £29.50 with chilled courgette and basil soup, roast pork with aubergine and Pimms cheesecake. I then added 2 sides at £5 each, roasted potatoes & tenderstem broccoli. The soup and dessert were both very tasty, and the main course with sides wasnt bad. I think a little more seasoning wouldve improved them, but I wouldnt say they were bland. I thought it all an excellent value for the price.
We had afternoon tea for two.Tasty and well presented food. Got asked if we wanted more sandwiches, which was nice.Absolutely gorgeous View.Friendly staff, but sadly they felt very rushed and stressed. The tea water wasnt hot and we waited 17 min after receiving the bill until someone came to get payment. (We tried to get theire attention several times).Looking at other pictures of the afternoon tea, I can see that we only got clotted cream and Jam for one person..
I had a really nice experience here at the Swan.Myself and my partner are from a set menu which by all accounts was reasonably priced at £26.95 for three courses. We arrived a little bit late for our booking but we were still seated and I didnt feel we were rushed into eating. We had to choose our food pretty quick as the kitchen was closing as we were the last booking for the evening. But as we were late, we can only blame ourselves. The food we ordered was presented really nicely on the plate and was relatively filling. The waitress who served us was very nice and accommodating.Would I recommend the Swan, I really would. If you can get a window seat you will have a lovely view of St Pauls Cathedral which looks fantastic in the night sky of London.
Came for afternoon tea.Asked for the table next to the window. The receptionist said that those table are set for dinner and are booked. Dinner at 1pm? Really? At the moment when we left the tables were still empty.Came to this place just because of the view since the food is average.Waitresses are nice and friendly.About the “spotless”.The plate had food trace on it.Tea strainer had tea stains as well.Tea cup had inside stain as well, didn’t managed to make a pic cause the waitress took it away seeing me “examining” the stain.
We ate in the bar area upstairs, it was open and brightly lit, the food was fresh and well prepared. The Swan is located right next to the Shakespeares Globe theatre and a very short walk from the millennium bridge.
Lovely location with mediocre service and sub par food. We came in the afternoon but their tea reservation was not available so we just decided to get food off the menu. Service was very slow and doesn’t seem like the waiters have been trained well. We had 3-4 waiters serving us. One brought water glasses, holding them with her fingers on the rim. The tea pot came with ONE cube of sugar, when I asked the waiter, he brought ONE more till I had to ask another person for a few more. They didn’t bring a second cup after asking and waiting for 20 minutes and tea was cold by then.We were hungry so we ate the food but the wings were burnt, the salad was soggy and drenched in dressing. The only thing that tasted good was the scones with jam. (The clotted cream was stale.)
I had a great experience at Swan today. My server Marta was very polite. I enjoyed the summer ragout and the sticky toffee pudding. The summer ragout is a great vegan option. Beautiful views while enjoying your meal
Lovely restaurant, with a good selection of mid/high priced food. Not ridiculous but certainly not cheap. The sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I ever had. The pudding and the ice cream really complemented each other well. For the main I had an aubergine steak, delicious, but quite small. The sort of place you go for the taste of the food rather than ensuring you are full up!
Went for the Afternoon Tea. It was okay...the waitress seemed annoyed when I mentioned I had a nut allergy, as if it was a bother for them to amend the serving of the dish. No alternatives were provided so I missed out on some aspects and so the plates looked empty. The venue is nice but I wont be rushing back or recommending to do this afternoon tea to anyone. Certainly not worth £40.
Mum and I had a beautiful afternoon tea. It was great to find somewhere that did afternoon teas not only on a Monday but also at lunchtime. The setting was stunning with fantastic views over the Thames. The Midsummer Nights Dream themed tea was delicious and served on themed china. The staff were friendly and helpful. All in all a lovely experience and a real treat, thank you.
Stopped here for drinks after touring the Globe. The service was excellent, very friendly. We enjoyed the Love Potion and Pimms Cup cocktails, both were very tasty.
Stopped by for lunch after seeing the Tate Modern. Great food and excellent coffee, we really enjoyed our sandwiches. The menu is not very extensive, but they do the food well.
Wow!!!I must admit to being a little unsure about whether I would like a cream tea. I had the gentlemans savory option and it was magnificent. The staff were polite and very attentive. Great value for money, just dont have anything to eat before you visit. Thoroughly recommended.
[Insert witty Shakespeare quote about under performance here]I wasn’t impressed with any of the dishes we tried. It was that it was bad by any means, it just lacked oomph. It needs some soul. There was contrast here. Amazing presentation but meh food. Polite service staff but super slow. Great location, well lit but underwhelmingly dim.
Great looking place. Beautiful views of the Thames and St. Paul’s cathedral. Staff are very nice but slightly disorganized. Regarding the food, the dishes we had were presented nicely but ended up being bland in flavour. Crab cakes were cooked nicely but lacked flavour. Hummus was very boring to eat. Fish and chips lacked a nice crisp and had the skin on the cod (wasn’t necessarily gross or anything, just did not appear as a nice clean piece of fish like I’d expect). Also the beer from the tap was not very cold either oddly enough.
Reception hurried us up the stairs to the table but the restaurant was clean with great views of the river thames. The table was beautifully laid out but a tad small to accommodate tiered stands x4 and teapots x4 so eating was awkward. The food was nice and allergies were catered for very well. The pulled irish beef burger was underwhelming and it needed something like a slice of tomato/lettuce/cheese and the stilton scone was served without butter but again would have been nice if some chutney was on the side. The gentlemans menu was very filling (despite only 4 chips being served with the fishand the waitress was very pleasant. We will be going back to try the romeo and juliet afternoon tea when it returns to the menu.
Did the Queens Royal Tea and loved it. Left very full and the food was excellent. Fast and friendly staff. Beautiful interior with a great water view.
We booked the afternoon tea and were stunned - the quality and the amount of food we got was absolutely amazing. We had a regular and a vegan option and both were so good. The view is stunning, the staff was super friendly and the prices were reasonable compared to other afternoon tea offers. We had an amazing time here and enjoyed every second!
Friendly staff and great scones. Also nice atmosphere in the establishment. Gave three stars only because we had to wait a very long time for our first round of drinks (I had practically already finished my scones by that time). For the second round of drinks they forgot to put our order in so it again took a long time.
Food was good, but they didnt have takeaway soup container and a bag to carry the boxes in; while in the bathroom, they had one ply toiletpapper, one ply!!!
A great experience at the Swan at the Globe today. They accommodated 2 extra guests and everything went well the food and service. Recommended..!
An unplanned trip to The Swan to grab lunch while walking along the Thames. A welcoming interior with cosy booths as well as long tables and relaxing coffee areas. Attentive and friendly staff. The fish and chips was great as was the pulled beef sandwich. Certainly worth a visit although I imagine its very busy when the weather is good or before a show at the Globe.
Had a pleasant afternoon at the Swan.We had afternoon tea, as part of a voucher deal and the food was quite good.Tye interior is light and bright, with views beautiful over the River Thames. The staff was polite and welcoming and we were seated immediately. We went for a savoury and sweet afternoon tea each. The savoury is quite large but also quite delicious (pic below). We left feeling quite full. Would like to visit again for just a regular meal as most bit if the tea were quite nice.
Amazing meal, lamb saddle a perfect plate to share, well done team.Genuine advice, break floor in sections, we had a wonderful time and got to meet the whole team, however we had a different server through out the evening, so you avoid asking checking back on the same table.
Great location, whatever the weather. The kind of pub you can lose a few hours in. Cant remember the name of the brew we drank but I wish I could. Really enjoyed my fish and chips. If wed had more time I would have moved onto the Bloody Marys after seeing the table next door order a few.
Wow. What can I say about this place? The location, the staff, the food, the drink - all of it was spot on perfect. We came for our team Christmas night, and lucky enough to have the private dining room. It was fabulous. We didnt need to ask for a thing, the staff were so attentive. I would definitely be back.
Bar snacks are delicious in a curious sort of way. Sausage roll is a slice off a giant length, like a swiss roll. The pulled pork brioche was also exciting as I thought the Gherkin was a pepper. The atmosphere and view are unique with antique furniture and the river. "Dottie" was a charm and our service was impeccable. Brilliant finish to the Globe Tour.
Lovely little place on the Thames with great service from our waitress. Sausage roll and truffle chips snacks were lovelyLittle too pricey on the drinks for my liking, especially the Mrs Claus cocktail which was £12 for a champagne flute size.
Courteous staff fast service and excellent food. Right next to the globe and for where it is good value. Oh and good coffee too!
Had high expectations as beautiful space and menu and reviews lead you to expect more. I went for Sunday roast and wont do that again. It was poorly platted with very little gravy very little flavor. I had to ask twice if it came with other veg. When they brought some it was very roughly steamed carrots broccoli and cauliflower. If you can look for another option that has more care put into the meal.
Email enquiries were not responded to. Finally managed to reserve a table for two at 14:00 but then needed to wait for 15 minutes to be seated while witnessing the two staff arguing about why the table had not yet already been set up which got me a little frustrated as I failed to see how it could take that long just to get a table set up. In spite of that bit of drama, the nice window table with a beautiful view of St Pauls enhanced the Romeo & Juliet Afternoon Tea experience.Salmon sandwich was good but nothing extraordinary. Scrumptious Chicken Brioche Bun, Egg Mayonnaise Lemon Scented Bread and Wild Mushroom Tartlet needed a round of refill (at no extra charge). Scones were fine but tasted and smelt nothing orange as claimed. Contrary to the savories, sweets were less impressive - our favourites were Chocolate Hazelnut Tartlet, Pear Compote Set Cream, Mint Dark Chocolate Mousse.Staff were aware that we were celebrating our anniversary but unlike other restaurants, neither complimentary celebration plate nor the alike was offered, but that was made up for by the pleasant views. Overall, tasty foods, great value for money.
Very limited, unimaginative menu. Disjointed service between downstairs and upstairs.Update: Reply to Owner comment -----Hi Benoit,Thank you for taking the time to reply and explaining the concept of British venues.Being British - I am familiar with British restaurants that use local and fresh produce to build a creative menu.We tried to order from your bar menu which had more options, however this was not allowed. We also tried to order the set menu - but one person on the table wanted a la carte - and this was also not allowed.I think if there was more flexibility then we would have been happy to order from the different menus that you have to offer with all the options you mentioned. However this was not possible.Hopefully one day we can come back and find better options. Would be keen to see if there has been improvement in future.-------Weve been looking forward to try the Swan for years but the right opportunity never came. Sadly our experience was very underwhelming. When we arrived we were greeted by 2 staff members who couldnt find our booking - at the ground floor entrance and at the welcome desk by the bar. So she sat us at a random corner next to a large group of loud revellers. It felt wrong, so I asked again about our booking. In the end the staff realised that we probably booked upstairs and finally showed us where to go.Once the menu came, the options were so disappointing. If the menu could be a colour or flavour - it would be plain, bland, vanilla. Nothing on the menu jumped out as exciting or something wed love to try.We thought maybe they would surprise us with the quality of food (surely with such a limited menu they must be spectacularso we decided to try out a few things. The duck came out quite chewy and bland. The tart was pretty but tasted plain. The only saving grace was our table service as our waitress was very friendly. Also the marmite butter that came with the bread basket was delicious. In the end the bill was quite expensive for what was a very underwhelming meal. It felt like money not well spent.--
I could sing ballads about their afternoon tea, inspired by the play of the season (Romeo & Juliet in my case). Dainty pastries, orange blossom scones with clotted cream and jam, and sandwiches - egg and cress, coronation chicken and smoked salmon and cream cheese. A large range of teas to pick from. And the best part - unlimited refills (barring the scones)!
We thought the waiting staff were a little over attentive especially when it came to settling the surprisingly large bill which did not reflect the overall experience with the exception of the excellent view of the River Thames.Lovely location but VERY limited menu
The service was great and the food was tasty too! We booked just because it had river view, but will be going back for sure! It’s a little pricey, but they serve seasonal dishes and use locally sourced produce which is always good to see! The vegetarian section could use some expansion and I don’t think there were any vegan dishes on the menu.
