Glođina 8, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sarajevo
Self-guided tours of a restored 1700s house with typical Ottoman-era architecture & furniture.
Muslim town house, which brings back the spirit of the past. Yards with flowers and a fountain like in old songs.
If you would like to know what old Bosnian houses looked like this is place to visit. It hold history and once you step in there you feel like you went to old times.
Amazing atmosphere and very well preserved. The caretaker who sold us the tickets was very welcoming and nice. A must visit in Sarajevo.
This is a wooden house from the Ottoman period. It is identical to those remaining in present-day Turkey and shows how Muslims lived in those days. It is luxuriously built, showing that it was the residence of a very wealthy person. I was impressed by how well it has been preserved. This area also retains the old town block construction and is a good place for a stroll. 2022 September entrance fee : 3 KM.
One of the most special museums in Sarajevo.
VERY interesting and a peaceful, calm and cool place to spend time.
Astonishing example of Osmanic architecture. An amazing spot also to calm down and drop into a different century!
Very beautiful and well maintained. The visit is short but educational because you learn how people lived under the Ottomans. Must see :)
Its always a pleasure spending time here, Svrzos house is a true monument to the Bosnian home from the Otoman period, it has amazing gardens and still holds a true spirit of those times.
A truly unique and wonderfull space.
I went to Svrzo’s 2 weeks ago and I thought it was an excellent, well preserved house with great examples of furnishings. It had good written explanations as well as staff who were available the day I was there and gave an absolutely amazing history of the house and the surrounding city. Well worth the visit!
A must when visiting Sarajevo. An old house with beautiful interiors and beautiful antique craftworks showing how a wealthy family used to live. There are lots of interesting household items with detailed explanation - see the toilet and the basin for washing hands on my photos. Edo the guide/ticketseller was very nice and knowledgeable, really loved this place and gave interesting and detailed information on what was not clear - e.g. that there is a small door specifically for visiting neighbours without going to the street! Very interesting place, dont skip it, its nicer then the bazaar aka old town.
Fantastic traditional house. Must go
Should not be missed when visiting Sarajevo. Guide at house was so knowledgeable about history.
A wonderful and informative museum into a part of Sarajevo’s diverse history. A must for a quiet hour away from the busy tourist areas. Along with detailed infographics for each room, the museum’s curator/guide gave interesting insights into the house and answered any general history questions we had about the city. A must see !
Amazing place to visit. House is really preserved considered how old it is. Authentic furniture and items are presented for visitors to view. Our host was extremely polite and kind. He answered all our questions and even gave us some additional details about different parts of the house. This is a must go place if visiting Sarajevo.
Everyone should definitely take time during their stay in Sarajevo, to visit Svrzina kuća. It is beautifully portrayed family house from the time of Ottoman rule, with a very kind guide, ready to answer all of your questions and give additional information. For us this was a well spent afternoon and we would gladly come back again.
This was a quiet treasure box in the city, it is totally worth to come and dive into the middle ages.
A gem of a museum and very informative guide. It was very quiet when I visited so added to the tranquility of the place. It is a short albeit uphill walk from the old town centre. Its not too expensive to visit and I actually preferred it to the national museum.
A very interesting Ottoman-era house complex to visit in Sarajevo.
A beautiful property which offers a highly personal and intimate insight into Sarajevo’s history. The house is beautifully preserved and has a real sense of atmosphere. I was also lucky to have a tour from Edo whose knowledge is prodigious and who brought the whole experience alive. I would give five stars to him alone! Highly recommended.
An interesting insight into the life of a wealthy merchant in sarajevo during ottoman times. Good to contrast with the despic house
For 3 KM the visit is way worth your money! Culture and history will be available. Each room has it’s a own explanatory panel so you won’t be disappointed about not having enough information. The guardian is very kind and helpful as well
Utterly charming and transporting! I could have spent a whole day here peopling it with my imagination. Mustafa the resident curator shared with me in excellent English details about the useage of the house and its materials. A must-see contrast to the other museums that testify to the awful carnage endured by this magnificent and hardy country.
An out of the way treasure of a museum that represents the home of an ottoman businessman. There are very few tourists here and you can get the feeling of life here in the fifteenth century.
This is a house that has been kept the same since 1700bc.Very beautiful to see how even than the people knew to cherish the small things in life and how they designed their homes with some kind of technology.
Very interesting, old Ottoman housing. Nice to visit!
This Othomanstyle house is well preserved and there were good explanations each door of rooms. It is worth to visit. Time traveling feeling . You can relax at the balcony watching the beautiful architecture!
Amazing preserved Ottoman era villa complex. I was the only person there and took my time exploring each building. Truly worth the visit!
It’s interesting how a big wealthy family used to live back in the 18-19 centuries in Sarajevo. Such house normally accommodate three generations of 15 members of a family, with stables and separated house for housekeepers. Almost every room has a stove nicely decorated , there are shower and toilet rooms also there. Ticket costs 3 MK. Very interesting place!
Historical place, recommended visiting with the guide
A good place to know Ottoman-period residential architecture and the traditional lifestyle of a Muslim family. Entrance fee only 3 Marks. Highly recommended.
This is a little treasure well worth the visit. Authentically furnished for that period it gives an insight into how a well to do Ottoman family would have lived. Because its out of the centre of the old town, I think many people dont know its here, only two other people there when I visited. The courtyard is beautiful and very peaceful. Just 3KM entry fee.
Beautiful place, really loved it!
Amazing museum house. I dont know what a previous reviewer was talking about to not expect much! It was even more cool than I expected! Descriptions in every room in English and Bosnian, its super quiet and peaceful (even on a Saturday when we went), a true glimpse into what life was like during the time period. Come here if you want to be transported to another time in Sarajebos history! Entry is 3KM.
A wonderful hidden gem and one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in Sarajevo. Two beautiful courtyards surrounded by various wooden rooms complete with authentic furniture. Worth the short climb from Bascarsija!
Its worth visiting.great furniture from times long time past. Very interesting housein ottoman style.
This house relates to the Arabic traditional house, it is designed in a way in which every part of it has a meaning and usage, nothing is made for no reason, long story short this house is full of life, I really recommend visiting it if you have the chance
Really interesting exhibition, for just 3 KM you get to see the actual house of a politically and socially influential Muslim Sarajevan merchant family a few centuries ago Most of the furniture and objects seem to be authentic rather than replicas. You really get a feel of how everyday life used to be for big wealthy muslim families at the time. The sheer opulence is astounding. Loved it
A Traditional Ottoman House in Sarajevo, you should visit inside too.
This is almost a living history tour. Very interesting home, almost Royal Palace, made if wood, surprisingly survived the many conflicts. There are English placards describing each room, what they were used for, with some furnishings to show how they were decorated. Its amazing to think of a room dedicated to coffee and guests!
Cute, but nothing special. If you are interested in Ottoman era Bosnian architecture and relics I suggest you visit Ethnographic wing of National museum instead.
This is a great place to explore and see a traditional Muslim home of a wealthy family in Sarajevo from a couple of hundred years ago.
Nice little museum - roughly five minutes from the Bazaar quarter... The house as such is a neat place, offering views of a representative mansion from the Ottoman times. Whilst I was not overly impressed by the interiors, I loved the overall ambience with the courtyard and the balcony...
Ottoman Era house built by Glođo family and later inhabited by Svrzo family. It house of a very whealthy family and you can find a lot of different rooms for each occasion and purpose. You can spend most relaxing minutes in kamarija that overviews garden. Worthy visiting.
Absolutely worth the walk up from the city center. Hidden in a side street, this house gives an insight into how an Ottoman family used to live. Calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Worth the walk up the hill to visit this jewel of an Ottoman-era house. The inside is furnished according to the tastes of the wealthy Muslim family that used to inhabit it, and offers a unique look at this aspect of Sarajevan history and culture.
Magnificent old house just outside of the old town
A beautiful glimpse of how life was of an upperclass Ottoman-Bosnian family home. Its a work of art.
It is nice to see and get the feeling how people used to build houses and how they were living. It is definitely worth seeing it. From old city center it is about 15 to 20 minutes away. And be prepared to walk upwards the hill.
