One of the most beautiful places in all of Korea. It has an amazing river that runs down the middle of the walled city and there are a multitude of things to do. Archery, Ballon rides, tour car, chicken Street, mural street, vendor market, walled gates, special rooftop cafes, best pizza in suwon and the list goes on.

This ancient city wall is great to visit. No matter if day or night time, the buildings are beautiful. The whole round takes about two and a bit hours.

Certainly the biggest draw for Suwon, and one of the biggest tourist attractions in all of Korea, this 200+ year old fortress is great. Nowadays you can walk along the walls for free, making a circle around the old city (mostly 3-story shops nowwhile surrounded on all sides by mountains and a modern city of over 1,000,000 people. Despite the modern world encroaching, its still pretty easy to see how incredible this place must have seemed when it was first built.Walking the walls can take anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours, depending on how far you decide to walk, how many breaks you take, and whether you decide to walk or take a cab back to your starting point. My recommendation is walking the walls on the way out and then walking outside the walls on the way back. Although walking the wall is cool, seeing it from outside is certainly more impressive. And best of all, it is free. The only thing that costs money is a visit to the emergency palace, and even that is super cheap. Highly recommended

Came here to see the brightest moon on chuseok after 100 years! Difficult to park here. Though quite big but still too small for everyone! You can bring your mat and enjoy the day or night together with your loved ones. Take a walk around the fortress, which is so big! There is also a place where you can practice archery.

This is a MUST VISIT place if you ever come to Suwon! The fortress is free to visit and you can go up the defense wall and also see the city views from the above! There is also a beautiful pond that is popular for picnics and especially in summer it was super beautiful as everything was green and reflecting in the water! I am sure it is just as beautiful at other seasons as well!

Suwon Hwacheong Fortress. A UNESCO heritage world site. I came thinking that the fortress is located somewhere but it turns out that there is a town located within the fortress (makes sense since Hwaseong Haenggung Palace or also known as the Hwaseong Temporary Palace is located inside here tooand that includes their famous fried chicken street. Walked along the walls from the northern gate to the south eastern gate before my legs reminded me I’m getting old.

Hwaseong Fortress, built to protect the city, was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on December 12, 1997 for its historical value. The fortress offers various performances daily as well as the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival every fall. The walls stretch for 5.7 kilometers, with Paldalsan Mountain at the center. The fortress, constructed from 1794 to 1796, was built as a display of King Jeongjo’s filial piety towards his father and to build a new pioneer city with its own economic power. Hwaseong Fortress is an impressive structure from the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910and the official fortress of Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do. The fortress, constructed from 1794 to 1796, was built as a display of King Jeongjo’s filial piety towards his father and to build a new pioneer city with its own economic power. The fortress wall stretches for a total of 5.52km and has a great variety of military facilities that are hard to find anywhere else. Four gates face each of the cardinal directions—Janganmun (north), Paldalmun (south), Changnyongmun (east), and Hwaseomun (west)—and the seven-arch style Sumun gates straddle the point where the nearby stream reaches the palace. Above the Sumun gates is a pavilion called Hwahongmun.

Hwaseong Fortress or Suwon Hwaseong is a fortification surrounding the centre of Suwon, the provincial capital of Gyeonggi-do, in South Korea. It was built from 1794 to 1796 by King Jeongjo of the Joseon dynasty to house and honour the remains of his father, Prince Sado. Sado had been executed by being locked alive inside a rice chest by his own father King Yeongjo after failing to obey a command to commit suicide. Located 30 kilometres (19 misouth of Seoul and enclosing much of central Suwon, the fortress includes King Jeongjos palace Haenggung. The site was designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997. Suwoncheon, the main stream in Suwon, flows through the center of the fortress.

Very impressive construction, about 1 hour by train and bus from Seoul center. Walking the whole tour can take you several hours if you take your time. The fortification is actually surrounded by modern constructions both inside and outside, so you can go back to city environment when you want. One side of the fortification runs on a mountain covered with a forest - a refreshing view when youre coming from Seoul for the day.Ticket to be allowed to walk around the wall is 1000 won (about 1€), you can buy it at one of the few ticket booth scattered around the fortification.View is even more beautiful and impressive at night, with the walls being lit.

One of the great tourist attractions of Korea. Showcasing the heritage of their past. Very organized and detailed. Highly recommend this place for couple or group visit. Its a kids friendly place too. You can find the bicycle rental here as well as breast feeding corner. The lower part of this place is the reception and official part of the palace. The original palace is on top of the hill. It closes around 5:30 pm. So better come early if you want to visit all the sections of the palace. The back part (Hill topof the palace can not be accessed from the front area. There is another path right besides the main entrance. And the hill top site doesnt require any tickets.

Suwon Hwaseong is a dream fortress built by the king Jeongjo as a reformation ruler during the Joseon Dynasty. It is a second-to-none architectural structure we are proud of. Although many parts of the fortress had been damaged during the Japanese colonial era and Korean War, it had been repaired and restored since 1975 based on the”The Construction Records of the Hwaseong Fortress (Hwaseong Songyouk eugye)”, UNESCO memory of the world that records its construction conditions. The restored Suwon Hwaseong Fortress was registered ® as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1977 as its superiority was recognized.Suwon Hwaseong Fortress is located in downtown area of Suwon and Dulle-gil Trail that stretches about 5.7km is formed long the fortress. There are diverse ways to enjoy 😉 the beauty of this Fortress. You may slowly take a walk around the Fortress, feeling the breath of king 🤴 Jeongjo who had love for the people and filial piety,or you may focus on Jeong yakyong’s excellent scientific achievement that demonstrates the highlight of civil engineering and construction. Just by strolling along the Fortress, you will enjoy fascinating artistic values as well as breathtaking landscapes. Experience a totally different scene anywhere on this connected trail.

Took the train south from Seoul to visit this fortress. It is a huge complex so be prepared to walk a lot. There are many amazing sites and views all around the fortress. When visiting I suggest you start at the Hwaseomun gate and go counter-clockwise. This way you go uphill first to the Seojangdae Command Post with fantastic views of the city and then it’s all downhill from there.

Hwasong palace is a fantastic place that catch your attention when you get close to it. Climbing on to the top of the mountain, this is what you expected to see. If you go up there at evening, then you can enjoy the whole city view at night. A lot of locals come here for jogging and excercising so please do not hesitate to have it a try. Anyway, it is on the mountain top so you are required to walk on hundreds of stairs to get there. Then be well prepaired. Have a nice and healthy trip by walking!

Restored and now freshly looking traditional Korean fortress. It has walking routes alongside the wall, which is great, and it is possible to walk around in 2 hours or so. Some parts of the fortress are located on surrounding hills, so you may also take a look at central Suwon. Clean and neat In-fortress neighborhood is filled up with various restaurants and coffeehouses.
