Sutton Bank National Park Centre - Visitor centre in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom
Lovely walk with breath-taking views. Even on a drizzly day! The bloke in the visitor centre was really nice and helpful. Asked us how long a walk we wanted and what we wanted to see and showed us a walk linking two together. It was great. We saw the White Horse, then came back and down the other side to the lake. Parking £4.80 all day. Loads of parking. Toilets.
Great walks ,great views and a lovely cake and coffee at the cafe. Top venue
Mice area fir a lovely walk
The best place to start exploring this area. Several walks of various difficulties and distance. Shorter walks layed out to path for prams/ wheelchairs. Bikes for hire if wanted.Parking is by card/phone. £4:80 for all day and ple ty of spaces. Toilets, small gift shop/guides and maps. Excellent little cafe.Use this to start/finish your day exploring or drop in if doung the Cleveland Way.We walked down to Lake Gormire via Garbutt Wood. Steep decent and a vigorous climb up to get back on the Cleveland Way and return.Recommend purchasing the "Walks from Sutton Bank" book at £2:50 from the shop. 5 walks with routes al layed out.
Best view in all of England complete with toilets, shop and cafe. Walk to view point is very easy and our children even did it without moaning. We cant walk far as a family due to multiple leg issues atm but this was easy and short enough for us to manage. Bike hire looks cool, v.jealous of those cycling around the paths. View itself is amazing and worth a detour for anyone travelling up that way. Can easily see view and get back to car in 50 mins. Wouldnt allocate more than 2 hours to the visit unless planning to cycle or do one of the longer walks.
Had an amazing day the visitors centre is well laid out bike hire, cafe, toilets visitors information centre. The car park is £4.80 for the day its contactless only. We had a great walk over to the White Horse taking in breathtaking views. The tramper path is very accessible this path takes you to the top of the white horse. If you want a view from the bottom there are 147 steep steps down some wide, narrow steep and shallow steps so watch your footing as you go, easier down hard coming back up but well worth the view.
We enjoyed our stay at the Sutton Bank National Park. Parking was easy to find, £4.80 for the whole day. Cafe looked very inviting. Big information centre with lots to buy and few rangers doing activities for children - looking under microscope whats in the pond water, creating your own 3D model of a river with rain simulation, even little craft for the younger ones. We went for the White horse walk and as it was really hot ended up with a stop at the Gliding centre cafe before returning to the National Park Centre for some fun at the playground (cool wooden and stone structures around trees).
Beautiful place to do dog walking, can even rent bikes.Fairly easy walks, well maintained and sign posted.Toilets, cafe and gift ship in main square.
Plenty of parking spaces but you do have to pay. There are some short and long walks available. The map board outside is pretty useless but will just about suffice to liberate you from having to pay for a map inside. They also have a bike rental business on site.
Always beautiful viewsGood for Walking cycling or just visit the White HorseGood facilitiesModest fee to park but a yearly pass covers 5 car parks in the north yorks moors area saves getting a ticket each visit and is very economic
Could do better with pre-visit information as website said parking was £4.50 so I brought £4.50 in cash only to find out it was £4.80 and machines didn’t take cash or Apple Pay.Cafe food, although a tad expensive was very tasty after a 2 hr bike ride across the moors.
Cafe was really disappointing food very basic. The walks were well maintained plenty of parking
Some good ideas to keep the little guys entertained inside visitor centre. Stunning views and walks/cycling routes
Lovely place to spend some time plenty of walks theres a cafe dog friendly a superb cycle shop and clean toilets
very beautiful panoramas. when you are right next to the horse, do not go down to the parking. there is a bad view. go straight ahead to another hill to see the whole picture
We had a nice time at Sutton Bank National Park, but cant confirm the view is the nicest in England.. its nice, alright, but maybe come and see for yourself 😊
Absolutely stunning place, great MTB trials and beautiful walks over looking Yorkshire!
The place is nice, walks are good. The cafe and cafe staff are diabolical. Grumpy rude staff serving over priced old / stale food. I got a hotdog in a bun that was rock hard. Asked for a refund and was told “it was fresh when it came out”. I have no idea what that means, must have magically gone stale in 1 minute after I got it. Rude guy processed my refund, that never came though.
May 2022. Amazing views from here. Theres a podium with an illustrated map of area too. Helpful if your interested in wanting to know the whereabouts of said places. Personally I didnt have a clue of where anything were!
Great place for walking and cycling
We paid £4.60 to park for the day and did a 15 mile hike. We found the White horse (greyand came back and had a cuppa at the cafe. The toilets were clean and the staff were lovely. We will be coming again as the area is beautiful!
Well worth a stopover. Easy access to the Cleveland Way, lots of cycle tracks which are kept separate from the pedestrian tracks (much, much safer than joint usage). Excellent cafe. Ticket machines currently dont work with Apple Pay, but you can get a ticket from the Information Centre.
Its a beautiful piece of country. Lots of walks. Amazing views, cafe toilets and a shop. Large car park suitable for motorhomes. A lovely day out. Never get bored. Love to see the scenery.Bike trails as well .Great place for kids .
What a Brilliant place! beautiful scenery, great for all ages. We took our 8yr old and 4yr old and did the 3.5 mile green route and the pump tracks and they loved it. We will be back again soon
Absolutely brilliant activities for my two home educated children, we started our learning on rivers here today using their great technology which the boys loved!! The microscopes are top quality and we inspected many different items including a tiny skull! The bird watching area is light and airy with binoculars and good resources to identify each bird spotted. We are going to use the centre a lot more for our learning days and the volunteers are super friendly and helpful!
Car parking charges a little steep, but visitors centre perfect for long walks and short walks alike.Cycling centre for bike hire, nice food and coffee for eat in or take Away. Dogs allowedinside cafe. Picnic tables available for your own food.
Nice tourist information centre and car park and toilets after motoring up Sutton bank from Thirsk. Its a great place to walk from here along the escarpment with views of the vale of York to the white horse then down the steps to the car park at the white horse turning right along the escarpment bottom through the woods and back up into the outward path back to the car park. If you have time gormere worth the visit
Lovely spot for a walk. Good car park with clean toilet and a cafe. Some lovely walks.
Lots of walks to explore from the centre. Today Sutton bank was closed so a bit of an adventure to get there, car parking I suppose is average at £4.80 for all day but some might class that as steep when its an outdoor space. Cafe and toilets open and despite the road closure still plenty of people about. Nice walk along park of the Cleveland way in a loop and a visit to the white horse and back through the woods to the visitor centre. Fab walk 10 miles covered.
Plenty of parking spaces. Pay and display car park. The visitors centre has lots of really interesting information and a really nice gift shop. There is a lovely cafe with a wide range on the menu and really reasonably priced.Toilets available. Situated with access to the White Horse trail and 150m from the finest view in England looking over towards Lake Gormire and the Yorkshire Dales. Lots of lovely walks.
Lovely walk to the finest view in England and it was very impressive. Paths all great to walk on if you have good boots. But still a great place to visit
Great place for a walk , bike hire place if you fancy a ride parking not free but not expensive . Cafe nice simple food not to pricey . Great day out
First visit, loved it... Only walking today but great views and clear paths (muddy f course). Facilities were fine... Toilets, picnic areas all good. Cafe food was delicious and service not too slow considering how busy it was. Kids play area was lovely, made from wood and stone and good for big and small kids 🙂
Just a lovely spontaneous visit to Sutton Bank and walk to the white horse just before sunset.
Sutton Bank National Park towards the White horse. Has fantastic views of North Yorkshire and as far as the Pennines on a clear day. There is also a gliding club and gliders take off quite often gliding in the sky above you.The parking though seems quite expensive £2.70 for 2 hours However you can get 20 mins free parking. There is also a visitors centre where the Staff are most helpful and they have learning activities for kids. There is also a play area for Children with a tree house etc.
Fantastic. Great centre, helpful staff who guided us to the most suitable walk. Enjoyed a 3 mile circular route. Icecreams at the bottom car park and coffees at the centre when we got back. My daughter isnt a fan of walking and loved this, as did my doggo. Bonus watching all the gliders being launched off the bank too.
GREAT views, fun bike rides for all and amazing food! The bike shop is ace too!
Great place to visit for walks or bike riding. Great cafe and visitors center. Toilets pretty much what you expect, fully stocked but not pretty 🤣Got ice creams for kids. Cafe and parking prices are reasonable.
This place is wall to wall stunning natural beauty. The views are incredible. We walked round past the gliding club, its a nice smooth well maintained path suitable for all.Good facilities at the main visitors centre too.
One of our favourite places. So many good walks, spectacular views and a great cafe.
Awesome views are an understatement. Great place to visit. Good parking. Excellent visitor centre. Wonderful walks
Best view in England, beautiful place to have a walk which will stay in your memory for ever. Loved it. Plenty of parking, cafe, toilets and kids play facilities. Great day out.
Great mountain bike trails with stunning views of the beautiful Yorkshire country and an epic pump track!
Amazing view! Lovely walk, we even managed to push a pram around for a lot of the walk. Plenty of parking, 2 hours for around £3.
Had a lovely walk to "The finest view in England" and a short way along the Cleveland Way with our 4 month old today. Accessible path for the buggy and was able to keep our distance from others fairly easily. Toilets were open which is a godsend for me personally so thank you to the caretakers keeping it all open and running. Cafe was open for takeaway too however we didnt make use of it, we took a picnic instead. Plenty of space to sit and spend some time (picnic benches are available but we found some grassy space). Dont forget to take money for the pay and display car park! I dont mind paying when it goes directly back into the park. Will be back soon to walk to the White Horse :)
We drove here from Thirsk up Sutton Bank. The car park is at the top. It’s ok by car but caravans are prohibited. We once went up in a Ducato motorhome, we made it to the top but it was scary.Once there we parked up and followed signs for the best view in England. That was a nice short and level non muddy walk suitable for all. There are longer walks but on a cold Boxing Day we didn’t have much energy. Wrap up well.Car parking was £2.50 for up to 2 hours so take coins, I didn’t see a card option.Free toilets and dog friendly visitors shop. Also a cafe but we never went in.An enjoyable afternoon which I would recommend to all. Probably lots more to do there that we missed so we will return.
Red route bike trail good fun,up hills with plenty of downhill, tracks and endurance places, loverly scenery, bit of all sorts really wouldnt recommend for youngsters.Forest Mud parts would be tricky in wet days, good fun
A Couple of lovely walks start from here going along the Cleveland way one way is around the glider station to the White Horse at Kilburn or going the other way past "The Best View in England" and along the cliff edge.
This is a great place to go if you are interested in walking in the great outdoors.Sutton Bank offers excellent views out over the Vale of Yorkshire, some say the best view in all of England? You can also follow part of the Cleveland Way for approx 1 mile to where you can look out towards York itself where the white horse is chalked into the hillside. There is also parking (pay and displaya visitors centre, café and toilets as well as a bike shop and bike hire.Highly recommended 😃
Fantastic area, good walks and agree finest view in England, very good drive to get here as well, excellent food at the restaurant, good day for the dogs too.
