Susie's Cafe - Chinese restaurant in Pendleton, United States
Kind of "hole-in-the-wall" Chinese restaurant that turns out some great food. Wife and I are big Potsticker fans, and these hand-made, thick chewy dough, garlicky pork filled, pan fried Potstickers are the best weve had anywhere. Also highly recommend the Chow Fun and the Happy Family. We stop here whenever we pass through Pendleton, and wish we could get Susies cooking back home
Cannot beat the excellent customer service from Susie! Delicious sweet and sour chicken with pork fried rice. This is my go-to Chinese restaurant and make sure I eat there a couple times while in town visiting.
We enjoy going to Sues. She always remembers us and the food is excellent!!I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoys good food.
Great Chinese food! Reasonable prices.
Its a lovely quiet place! Its definitely a place I would go again.
As ALWAYS you get way more food than one person can eat! Not only is it a lot of food, it is GOOD FOOD!!!! VERY VERY TASTEY!!! And all comes with super service and fair prices.
Whenever were in town we stop in for some Asian food here. Each time we have ordered chow mein or a vegetable dish we were very pleased with the taste and amount. Great job and recommend.
Food is delicious and in large portions. Service is great. A true gem if you are in the area.
Dinner tonight was Absolutely delicious! beef lo mein, broccoli beef, egg foo young, fried shrimp, moo goo gai pan, BBQ pork, pork fried rice, egg flower soup, sweet&sour chicken & pork. Very goodThanks Susies!
Big portions. We couldnt eat everything but took some back to our hotel and ate it later and it was still good reheated. A little cleaning in the dining room was needed. But nothing that was a deal breaker.
Completely Inedible. I ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken and fried shrimp. The fried food is so hard it almost broke my teeth. I tried several pieces - all have the same problem. The sweet & sour sauce had no flavor. Quite honestly? WORST Chinese food Ive ever had.
Just wasnt very flavorful. I had sesame chicken and wife had breaded pork ?? Sesame was slightly more flavor but overall I cant recommend this cafe based on our experience. Tough times for restaurants so maybe this was just a bad day.
Stopped for a late lunch yesterday. Had Great food and service. The portions were huge and we hardly made a dent in our order. Im sure we brought home as much as we ate. We ordered the family meal for 2, so it may seem a little pricey but it was a great value for the quality and quantity.
Best family run Chinese around that Ive seen the sweet and sour soup needs a little work but the egg flower is awesome
As always, the best high quality ingredients and very well made! Love this place!
This place was great, the food was amazing and there was enough for twice a many people. Its very deceiving from the outside but definitely recommend it and would go back.
Had the number 6 special, I have never had more overcooked shrimp or sweet and sour chicken in my whole life. The pork fried rice and the Mongolian beef or awesome but the other half of my plate was overcooked and way overpriced. To make matters worse there was only one other person in the restaurant with four people in the kitchen I still almost waited 20 minutes for my plate. The owners just need to retire and throw the towel in already.
Food is great but the prices in the menu on line are not the price when you go there so get a new menu when you go
Quality food at a good price! Cute little spot. Nice owner (hi Susie!). Clean. More menu choices than most other Chinese restaurants. Thank you.
Was a little curious as exterior was a bit dated but what a great lunch. Very friendly and spotless. Everything was very clean and the vegetables were fresh and the food outstanding. Nice place to eat and relax after a long drive
First time order.Orange flavored chicken- soggy, no flavorPork fried rice- microscopic pork pieces. You wont notice there is pork unless you look very closely. The rice taste as if it was cooked in a dirty pan with old oil. Left a very unpleasant taste in my mouth.Beef lo mein- the beef was still bloody and the noodles were way over cooked. Trying to mix it just turned into a mushy mess.Egg drop soup- no flavor and the consistency of jello. You can pick it up with a fork.On a positive note* the order was done quick, and the customer service was great.
Our absolute favorite Chinese place! We’ve tried them all, many times. Susie’s is hands down the best we’ve had! Her food is always what we expect! We’ve never had something we weren’t happy with. Also, the customer service is super. She always remembers you, your family, and your order! Highly recommend trying!
The pot stickers are the biggest Ive ever seen with ample, delicious pork filling. The dumpling itself was moist but not soggy with the right amount of chew. The General Tsos Chicken was nice and crispy with a breading that was not too thick. The proprietor was super friendly and sweet and really took care of us. Well definitely stop back in the next time were in town.
I loved the food! It tasted homemade. I had the lemon chicken and my dad had cashew chicken. It was fabulous! A little slower, but, well worth the wait!
We went with this restaurant based on the stellar reviews. But my food was hardly edible. I ordered a three entire meal- pork chow mein, an egg roll, and veggies. The chow mein was small pieces of pork with what appeared to be bean sprouts and it was covered in a slimy, tasteless syrup. The veggies were steamed. But also covered in the same syrup. It was actually pooling in the container. And the egg roll was massively fried and filled with I dont even know what. Needless to say, most of it was thrown away. The most accurate thing in the reviews was the meal size. It’s a lot of food. My kids got the grilled cheese and french fries and really enjoyed it. My husband got the sweet and sour chicken. It was edible. We shared it but it had so much breading it was hard to find the chicken. Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
Friendly staff, clean facility, large quantity of food, lots if fresh veggies. Standard Chinese restaurant food but such a cozy spot. You wont leave hungry.
Our family was on a summer vacation and we all had a craving for Chinese food as we were passing through. The owner was very friendly but sadly the food was quite the opposite. Where to even start...the breading on the chicken was hard as a rock and the lack of sauce for the assorted chicken we selected did not help. The vegetables were bland and mostly tasteless. The fried rice was barely okay but paled in comparison to other fried rice our family has had in the past. The hot and sour soup was so nasty nobody in our party could stomach it. The egg flower soup was marginally better but not something you would really want to eat. Overall, our entire family of four all agreed we would never eat at Susies Cafe again nor would we recommend it to anyone.
As good as any take out I have gotten before, though it doesnt do delivery if I remember correctly, the people are nice and polite. If you get an order of fifty dollars or more you get a free order of dumplings no request neccessary...
We ordered two meals and each meal was dry, the batter on the fried shrimp and chicken was to much to where there was barely any meat and way to much batter. Also got sick from whatever sauce they poured all over it.
Lots of delicious food. Great service. I will come again
My Husband & I moved here To The Pendleton Area About 1 1/2yrs. Ago, we Had Asked a few People and as well checked the Online Local listings for any place that Had GOOD Chinese Food. All the Reviews where Leaning by A large margin that Susie’s Cafe was the best in town. Well, then Good Ol’ COVID came around and luckily We had seen that They where open for Take out Only as we drove past one day. I ordered my Favorite Which Hardly Any One offers anymore on menu’s, the Shrimp Egg Foo Young. I love ALL egg Foo Young.. but it was So Deliciously Fresh made and Quality Shrimp.. my husband is not a big fan of Much of the menu offerings, on ANY Chinese restaurants. But, he did Like very much his Hot & Sour Soup, & general si beef... awesome food. Im fact now I must order some more foo young!!
I always go here for Chinese and I love in umatilla. Its amazing. You can order a couple things and its enough to feed an entire family! Everything is freshly cooked NEVER frozen! Its amazing and the staff are always sweet and make my day!!♡♡
Quality and quantity are both here at Susies Cafe!I had two potstickers on the way to the car- yummy!
Huge portions! Amazing delicious food with homemade flavor! Please give this place a shot! Family owned and operated. I wish I lived in this town just for this chinese restaurant! Thank you so much for everything you guys do! I hope business picks up! Much luck and have a happy 2020!
A lady who works is very nice.Food portion is good and taste is great!
We have been waiting for a couple hours now for our "15 minute" take out food. They are very slow and the cooks could be over heard fighting in the kitchen. I understand covid 19 has changed things, but its basic supply and demand. We are just traveling through town and thought they would be a good choice for dinner. I would steer clear of this resturant if you want to get a quick bite, or are even a little hungry.
Excellent food, excellent prices, and excellent customer service! The lady Ive always dealt every time Ive been there is fantastic. This is one of many reasons I keep going back. Ive had a variety of items on the menu. Havent been disappointed yet. Of course I have to give two thumbs up for my favorite sweet & sour chicken. Deee-lish!
Hands-down the best Chinese food in eastern Oregon. And I’ve tried them all. Would recommend this place to anybody I know or don’t know. Chinese food don’t get any better than this, try the honey walnut shrimp. Great service friendly staff.
If I could give a 0 I would. We witnessed the waitress eating food and spitting on her plate in the kitchen, then when we got our food our egg rolls smelled like dirty gym socks (rotten), 2 of them were grey in color on the inside and the other one was almost black. The chicken looked and tasted like pork, not to mention it also tasted spoiled, same with the other meats on our plate. The lemonades were slimey to drink. We left full plates and kindly talked to the waitress about it. She demanded we paid and threatened to call the cops. We got food poisoning from the few bites we took. Definitely avoid this place, I wouldnt risk it.
Wonderful, friendly service! We were so well attended and felt very welcomed. The food was absolutely delicious and in very large portions. My family and I loved our time there!
This is such a cute cafe! The woman who runs it is lovely. Most of the food is very good however the orange chicken is overfried and the wantons are stale. The curry is amazing and so is the fried rice. They are usually understaffed so dont reccomend for a buig group.
Friendly staff, and delicious food good for when you need comforting the most. Definitely beats Golden Fountain out of the park when it comes to options in town. I highly suggest this restuarant as a first choice when in for travel, or when youre with friends and family. The sweet and sour pork is the best Ive had compared to other Chinese restaurants, (including out of state). Pork Fried Rice was fresh and the BBQ Pork Lo Mein was also stellar as you could taste the freshness of the vegetables. The Spring Rolls were also best, and bring a nice freshness to the pallete. And I hold the Egg Flour Soup in best regards. It was flavored just right and the broth had a nice temperature. 100% chance of returning as a customer here.
Omg! The meal was delicious, the plates were huge, the price was fair, and the owners are the absolute kindest people ever! We stopped in while passing through during a road trip, but we will definitely visit again given the chance!
We have tried this place twice now and both times have been great! The food is fresh and served hot. The restaurant is clean and the staff is very nice and attentive. Definitely the best of the Chinese restaurants in town.
Online ordering makes this an awesome road trip stop. Very friendly staff who welcomed our family with two young kids. Food exceeded my expectations. Soup was even included with the meals (a disappearing sign of hospitality at so many restaurants. We will be back.
Great service! My favorite Chinese food in town! If you place a to go order, you can pick up your order in a very timely fashion, unlike another place in town. Food is great and fresh! Highly recommended!
Good American Chinese food! All the familiar dishes youll find at every other Chinese restaurant in America, but the flavors here are superb. We ordered four dishes and each were distinctly flavored and delicious. Too often flavors merge, like the dishes were cooked in the same wok without washing in between. At Susies the dishes were great and the service quick and polite.
Great service and friendly staff. We ordered a family meal so we could try different things. Everything was great, meats were moist, not dry like a lot of places. Only complaint would be to much sauce on the orange chicken. I will ask for the sauce on the side next time.
We stopped for lunch on our way home from the Oregon Coast. The waitress was very friendly and efficient, though a little hard to understand. The food was reasonably priced yet mediocre Chinese fare. It was hot and served quickly, but lacked seasoning overall. The rice in the fried rice seemed to be instant rice instead of long grain and my sweet & sour pork really tasted more like beef. I think well stop somewhere else next time.
Hostess was awesome but only one reason I would give 4 stars is because of her language barier, she made us order a soft drink even though we were not wanting to order any. She said it was included in the meal package. The place does not have any sort of ambience to it but the prices are reflective of them. If you can look past this, the place has very good food. Hardly any extra oil through fried rice, which is a good thing. Place is clean. Parking is plentiful on the street as well as the place has its own parking. The egg rolls were really different and a good change from a regular Chinese restaurant rolls.
