125 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000, Australia, Perth
Stylish, dimly lit Japanese venue with a marble bar, serving sushi, teppanyaki and upscale mains.
The food and service was 1st class, the only down side was we were left waiting for some meals and some even arrived after dessert ....I think they may have a problem with large table orders or it could be that our waiter was new but anyway even with those hiccups Id still go back the food was amazing.
I ate here a few times before they apparently closed (hopefully not foreverdue to the current pandemic. I ate mostly small dishes and was very impressed by the quality and presentation of the food. The lighting and decor is very pleasant, as was the staff. The downsides are the high cost of dishes and drinks, and the unreliable opening hours. For a perfect example, they appear to have been closed every day for the last few months and yet their opening hours here havent been updated. They also seem to close when the night gets too quiet, which is disappointing. If I can offer any advice to the proprietors: this reputation precedes you, and late night revellers are avoiding your establishment because they presume it is closed regardless of your advertised hours. Please communicate better with your potential patrons, we *want* to give you our money. Finally, I hope they open again soon. My last meal there was incredible. ごちそうさまでした!
My experience with the restaurant as i liked the food as well as their support staff. I especially liked sushi and probably the best i had in Australia. I would urge everyone to try the restaurant at least once as they are serving the best meals in the town. I would like to mention the chef for his brilliant job.
Perth restaurant is currently closed despite the website stating it is open. When you phone to make a booking there is a message saying they are closed. It would be a five minute job to put this on the website. I know COVID has affected many businesses and I feel for you, but it doesnt take much to give your customers accurate information.
Nestled in the "underground" area of the complex this restaurant offers an interesting and varied approach to the Japanese culinary experience in Perth.Theres a Zen-like stone garden bed with a cherry tree - didnt check if it was alive or not, but it instantly managed to convey tranquility. We only visited for a brief meal, during a theatre intermission, but were served promptly with staff going out of their way to ensure we got back to the theatre in time for Act 2.Our meal consisted of a sashimi dish, roasted vegetables, lamb cutlets, beef skewers and a mango dessert. It was well presented, tasted lovely and was priced appropriately. We were also given a 15% theatre discount which was a pleasant surprise.Theres plenty of room, place for a quiet tête-à-tête or a group booking. Not sure what the sound levels would be like if it was packed, but it was pleasant when we visited on a Saturday night. We plan to go back and take our time.Recommended.
Come here for a dinner on my day off.Waited to be seated . A guy stopped us before we can seat saying “ kitchen close at 9..so you need to order now”.Once at the table after waiting for a good 10 mins the waitress said “ kitchen close at 8.45”We order food rushing.First plate wrong. Waited another 10 mins to get the right one.Nobody asked if everything was ok, nobody looking at the table. Had to wake up to get water . Food was nice.. service.. bad .Also the guy in the bar started ringing the bell like crazy and shouting ending seeing him having a verbal fight with a waiter and I guess the manager ..Talked to a manger about what happened just heard “ I am very sorry” . No discount and bad experience. Felt unwelcomed
We had our worst Valentines night ever thanks to this place. We thought that having $$$ good food with quality service would be a great idea but we were so wrong. Absolutely disgraceful service that did not match the money we paid - rude waitress, did not apologise for bringing the wrong food and put on a sour face the whole time when taking order/bringing our drinks. We started eating around 8 but were only served the mains at 10. They messed up the order and was even noisily cleaning the kitchen as we were still eating. Absolutely unacceptable display being a $$$ restaurant.
The food and service was 1st class, the only down side was we were left waiting for some meals and some even arrived after dessert ....I think they may have a problem with large table orders or it could be that our waiter was new but anyway even with those hiccups Id still go back the food was amazing. Beautiful and fresh Japanese dinner, loved the food and enjoyed a great sweet plum wine with ice. Thank you
The most amazing Japanese food Ive ever had, along with the best service! The waygu beef just melted in the mouth, and the flavours were divine! Will be back again!
Came here on a Thursday night, the place was only about 1/3 full. Started the dinner by ordering a dram of whisky. It took like 12 minutes! Not sure why it took so long for such a simple drink.Had the moriawase, assorted tempura and rib-eye with 3 sauces. Overall the portions was good and happy with the presentation and delivery of the meals. Asked the rib-eye to be medium rare and was cooked accordingly.Overall the food was great, just wished the staff service matched it. Apart from taking forever to bring out my whisky, at times they had trouble describing what’s was on the menu.
Amazing food. After an hour advised to order last food and drinks. Even after food arrived were not able to order anymore drinks or dessert despite already spending $500. Very interesting way to run a business
The grilled chicken skewers were delicious. Good sushi too.
Terrible customer service, had to wait to be seated. We didn’t mind waiting at all however there were approximately 10 empty tables. After waiting 15 minutes we left.Went to Main Street Ryu Japanese and experienced the best customer service bad the food was amazing.
Nothing like it used to be.. expect poor service, haphazard food delivery, very average sushi. Sashimi is still pretty good but everything else and the price point for mediocrity and bad service make it a 1 Star.
What an enjoyable experience. We received “Sushia Izakaya” gift vouchers and so we booked for weekday lunch. My Partner was born and always lived in Perth WA. Knew that this restaurant has been in the heart of the City for many years and changed it’s name of course.First time for us. An amazing fine dining restaurant and to be able to see and enjoy our beautiful City from above, was extra special! The atmosphere of the restaurant was beautiful, very relaxing and we were amazed how big it actual is.The staff were very professional. We had 3 courses each and all dishes were perfectly presented and most enjoyable. Could not fault any of it. The Desserts especially were so delicate and delicious!Although we had vouchers which covered most of our bill, felt was overpriced….BUT worth visiting to be able to experience a different way of fine dining. Now that we enjoyed the experience, we shall return again and spoil ourselves, on a special occasion in the future.
Went 3 weeks ago for a corporate lunch and was asked to pre-order our meals which we complied to. However one of my colleagues couldnt make it so we asked for the food to be taken away. The waitress took away our food and as we are about to pay we asked about the takeaway item. The staff at the register told us they have a no takeaway policy and I explained to them that we were not told about this when the waitress took the untouched food away. If we knew, we couldve shared the meal between us so that my colleague didnt have to pay for a meal she didnt get to eat. Sushia Izakaya told us theres nothing they can do about it. Furthermore, over the span of 2 weeks, Ive sent 3 emails to discuss about this matter as I didnt think it was fair at all and Sushia Izakaya DID NOT respond to any of the emails. This is truly a horrible customer experience and I really dont think the way they handled this matter was by any means professional at all. Please do not go there for your corporate lunch.
Fantastic food. But a little sparse vs. other comparable places Ive been for the price. Would go again though. Fresh and well flavoured
Food was ok, service was good. One thing to note, they don’t use Japanese rice for the the garlic fried rice. “Japanese rice but from Australia” was the response I got when I asked. Not sure that made any sense but anyway they should be transparent and say the garlic fried rice is not Japanese rice.
Please don’t recommend your friends to go there. Extremely disappointed with their rib-eye steak. We’ve ordered a medium rare which it came out overcooked and dry. Instead of replacing the dish or offer us something else they said if we want a new piece we would need to pay half price. Their quality of customer care is poor. We will not be going back there again, we will go back to Nobu for better food and service.
Lost our bookingPoor service didn’t bring drinks twiceDidn’t come check if we wanted more food. When we left were asked how it was we said”crap”She said “that’s wonderful “Cherry on top to show how much they care about customer satisfaction.Wouldn’t go back.We went to Nobu to finish our dinner it was significantly better
The chefs at Sushia Izakaya prepare modern Japanese cuisine to hungry patrons seated in their clean & well presented restaurant. The dishes we had were great; the chefs did well to accentuate the delicate flavours of the fresh produce we were served. The wait staff were attentive & knowledgeable, and overall it was an enjoyable experience. Price wise, this restaurant is on the more expensive side of the spectrum, and dinner and drinks for two cost just shy of $300. There is an option to do a set menu, however with our dietary restrictions we were unable to take advantage of it.
Great food! Well balanced with good combinations that bring out the natural flavours. We got the lunch course menu. Its a bit dark (leading to average photosbut its not that bad in person.Sake variety is good and prices are reasonable for Australia.
Last Saturday, I was having a date with my boyfriend, we were sitting near the kitchen having a romantic dinner. We are very disappointed with the chef inside the kitchen. We heard him swearing loudly and throwing things to the other colleagues. We chose this restaurant because we like the environment and the food. unfortunately, the behaviour of the rudeness effected our mood and romantic dinner.
No one ever answers the phone when you try to book but i guess because they rather you book online. Food was Ok, service however was great, very attentive and friendly waitstaff.
Great little cave in the West Perth underground precinct. Have had very little experience with Japanese, so we had the Omakase set menu. Beautifully presented small portions served over 2 hours, leaving us satisfied and not stuffed. Wine by the glass was drinkable, with one selection per varietal. Watching the kitchen was entertaining. The staff seemed a little under the pump despite the restaurant not being full. Generally a very young clientele (on the later end of a Saturday night.
This place is exceptionally good. The food is great, the service is great, is very formal and long opening hours. The problem I have with it is price. $10 for a small cake. $15 dollars for small side dishes. Other than that, however, it is good.
Ive got invited by my friend to go try Sushia Izakaya restaurant in Brookfield Place. I would say that some of the dishes are good but some its a bit too sweet for my liking. We ordered the Omasake 1 menu. The first course was theSHAKE SASHIMIFresh salmon sashimi from TasmaniaIts really and refreshingMISO SHIRUJapanese miso soup, tofu, wakameThis is just your standard miso soup.GARDEN SALADAssorted baby greens in Sushia dressingThe salad selection is pretty good. I love this dish a lot.TEMPURA MORIAWASELightly battered prawn and vegetable tempuraThe tempura was just right and the dipping sauce is really good.SHAKE KUSHIYAKISalmon skewer, Japanese mustard miso sauceTORI KARAAGEJapanese deep fried marinated chicken, spicy aioliPORK BELLYTwiced cook pork belly, hatcho miso, pear ginger salsaThe pork belly should have the right consistency i.e meat, fat and skin should be proportioned. There is no crispy skin, the fat to meat proportion is a bit too much fat not a lot of meat. The pork felt like just boiled pork with ginger. Its This is my least favourite dish.EYE FILLETKinoko teriyaki sauceThe eye fillet was cooked just right. Unfortunately, the sauce in the dish is a bit too sweet for my liking.CHEFS DESSERTIt was a green tea dessert and its really good.I will return but not try their degustation dishes.
Nice little restaurant, very friendly staff who were very accommodating to us; my girlfriend cant have prawns and they were happy to modify the omakase menu to suit her. Food was nice and fairly priced for the product.
We enjoyed a lovely selection of sushi and the service was amazing, attentive and polite. At first we were taken aback by the prices ($20ish dollars for a sushi rollbut, these concerns disappeared upon the first bite into the food. Absolutely delicious. Thank you.
Such a nice place to go for a fancier date night. I have been looking for fresh sashimi all around Perth and this restaurant seems like the only place that has fresh juicy sake 👏🏻👏🏻Will definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi and has high expectations like I do.
Had the Omakase Menu 2. Food (5/5), Service (5/5), Ambiance (5/5), Value (4/5)
A rather delightful place with good food - rather generous serves too - and an extensive wine and sake selection. Staff were friendly and attentive. Plus they have a sake called "Demon Slayer" and Id go back just for that!
The food here was pretty good. We went there for during lunch and they had the set lunches there. It was okay but I feel the service was not fantastic even though to it was empty, maybe they were closing as I went there at 215pm. Otherwise the place feels nice and cozy.
4.5 star Japanese food. Nice atomsphere, friendly staff.
I was really impressedI had wanted/planned to try this place for a whileSo there was a risk I would go in with high expectationsBut they met themThe place is great and flexibleDate night, after work with colleagues, somewhere to impress someone, catching up with friends or family... Somehow is seam to accommodate all. It feels special, whilst still casual enough, a great balance. There is some really special Japanese dishes to tryAnd some really simple and delicious great value dishes tooGreat range of sake, or wines, to your preference too.
Very nice atmosphere and amazing food!
So two stars and even then struggling. No signage to help find this place. Maybe good for celebrating a work function or get together as for fine dining and romantic I smell and call BS. Nobu is better than this place. Staff were haphazard and changed constantly through our è the night. Chef was informed of my severe allergies but still needed to request they remake the dish without the offending food. Dish presentation feels a gimmick as food lacked flavour. Small dishes exorbitantly priced lotus flowers were burnt. Miso soup was just passable. Prawn teppan was $35 for show e only received 4 prawns. Green Tea e Genmachi was luke warm Yuki 🤮Matcha cake was deplorable. High light was Kizakura Nigori sake. I would only recommend this place to someone who I disliked.
Went for the anniversary dinner. Omakase set menu option 1. Presentation was fantastic, the food was delicious! The eye fillet with kinoko teryaki sauce was my stand out favourite. Above all, the staff were enthusiastic, attentive and friendly. Highly recommend!
Expensive and moody, the food is a nice however the portion sizes are small depending on the plate you order. Knowing what you are about to order is key, veterans need not take my advice about this place. New patrons , make sure you ask plenty of questions about the food youre about to order and how much youll get for your buck.
Great food, good service and reasonably priced! Be sure to try a sake, some sashimi or the beef tataki
Absolutely love the spicy crab and garlic fried rice! Ive ordered it every time! Otherwise, all the other food is pretty good and my friends love it here. Just a bit on the expensive side, but would go back.
Not really the Izakaya feel that I would be looking for. Its very fancy western Japanese fusion. Very moden with the price to go with it. The food is delicious and worth the price but if you are looking for the loud social relaxed feel its not there. The service was ok but dont be affraid to ask for a waiter.
The food was good and most of the staff were friendly. However the lady at the counter was so cold and unfriendly. No greeting from her when my friend and I walked into the restaurant but we were still happy with other staffs service and the food. But after eating when we were paying the bill at the counter the lady again was so cold and didnt even look at us or say thank you. Because of her bad attitude and service we will never go back to this restaurant.
Good fine dining restaurant at reasonable price. Professionally made food with unique presentation.
Food here is absolutely delicious. The food servings are small and the price is expensive. The wait staff were very attentive. This is a fine dining restaurant. My partner and I ended up eating take-away sushi straight after due to the portion sizes and cost. But I would recommend as an experience.
Sushia Izakaya Perth: the worst restaurant I have been to this year, service failure...We went with a small group(bookedwait staff were incompetent with order taking. Messed up dinner orders, shocking wait time. Inattentive staff for drinks. Fair few drinks were on the menu and not able to make. Food was good but lots of fluff...Expected better if prime location in perth city centre... if youre going to ask for a $$ pricy menu, at least have stellar derive to go with it. Truly an epic fail.Only saving grace was the company we had.
Wonderful celebration dinner . We had the omakase washed down with an excellent bottle of cold sake. The meal started slowly and we though it might not be enough. By the end, we were stuffed and only just managed the dessert. Service was good and the staff helpful.
Fantastic sushi rice and fresh fish. Service staff were prompt and courteous. Pricing is little hefty but well worth the price in my opinion especially for their lunch sets. The unagi rice set is simply fantastic and the tempura prawns were fried to a fluffy batter equivalent to many of the finer restaurants in Japan! I would certainly return if I have the chance to visit Perth again.
Had a meal and desert there on Saturday. The main dishes were great and the staff were all very friendly and worked hard to make us happy and comfortable. Well Done.Where it all got let down was the deserts. The deserts did not match the description and the taste was not quite there. An example of that would be the Japanese Roll Cake. It was a shame that the end of the meal let down the rest of the dinner.
Friendly staff, we went for a Friday lunch. Ordered assorted sashimi, wagyu grilled on stone with 3 sauces, and salmon bento. I especially like the wagyu, that come with the pickle and sauteed mushroom as a side. They go so well together and d wagyu melts in your mouth, just awesome!
