Sushi Pirate - Japanese restaurant in La Crosse, United States
Sushi Pirate in La Crosse
Description
Privilege
I use to like coming here with my husband all the time. We noticed they have relocated so we couldnt eat there for awhile and they only did take out. We waited several more months so we can dine in but you still cant go inside even though they updated their new place. Still only take out. We wanted to do take out but their hours are all over the place. Dont know if we will ever come back since they did so many changes.
MoreOrdered online and was advised it would be ready at 5:15, but still had to wait 30 minutes beyond that. The place itself was disorganized and chaotic with the employees children taking up the seats in the waiting are and playing loud videos on their phones. Sushi and lo mein was subpar.
MoreFood tasted good, however when it came, it was shoved into a box with a separate order, and it was SO SMALL. not filling in any way. I called and they were confused why I was upset. Offered to send out another, but I didnt want to be an inconvenience so I just ate other food I had in my office. Very disappointing
MoreNot open to eat in even though google says so
This place isnt even open anymore by the looks of it. No sign..all black and dark inside.
MoreCant even be bothered to post if their dining room is open. Not worth the 30 minute trip across town
MoreDespite what Jessica says, sushi tastes as good as it always has! They moved into a smaller location next door to where they were. Just glad they made it through lockdowns!
MoreI ordered vegetable tempura and they didn’t give me tempura sauce, they instead gave me disgusting salad dressing. What the hell did they just learn how to cook Japanese?!
MoreSushi Pirate used to be one of my favorites downtown. Im not sure if this place is under new ownership or was just hit hard during COVID, but it has lost much of what made it great. They have scaled back the restaurant and there is no longer an option to sit and watch sushi being prepared. In fact, there is no dine-in option at all. The quality of the food and service has decreased as well. The ingredients do not seem as fresh and the staff are inefficient and impolite. I doubt I will be back.
MoreNot good food, ordered for pick up and it came cold. The sauces taste horrible and the gyoza is far to fried. I’ll be sticking to Ocean Sushi
MoreHorrible. Terrible service. Terrible fishy sushi. Dirty. I threw up.
Definitely one of the better places to eat in Downtown area, not fancy but nice, and they do it right. Good food, fresh ingredients and well prepared, Very friendly staff and it is family owned and run. Nice to see a place where they take pride in what they do. Prices are very reasonable and affordable. Just pretty well done all around. Worth a stop for lunch or dinner. They are a traditional Chinese family so resteraunt is always closed from 3-5 p.m. for their lunch which is common in Asian countries. Nice to see a place that holds to tradition. So the food is as authentic as it can be. Nicely done.
Morethis place is honestly a joke the rainbow roll isnt using yellowtail as claimed but it was using white tuna and using half a crab stick, diamond roll the only really expensive thing is the scallops everything else is just a normal roll, also it doesnt look anything remotely appetizing it looks like a 5 year old was putting random stuff together and calling it a cool name, also expensive as hell for thing that doesnt look appetizing if it did look appetizing I wouldnt mind paying extra.1/5 would not eat again
MoreI would recommend coming here for the experience alone. There was a person sitting at the bar that seemed to be a civilian but was somehow directing traffic and had the air of a mob boss, running the restaurant from her perch. The food was not something to return to but it was average. There were children running around that seemed to be children of those working there and were quite loud. Nothing against children at all, just didnt make for the most pleasant experience. Bottom line is this was as close to a pirate ship as you will find at a sushi restaurant.
MoreSushi was ok, pizza is the worst. Restaurant is VERY dirty.
This was ....... An experience. From the odd building to the absurdly loud speaker phone conversations in the dining room. The food was okay tasting but for some reason felt questionable. The egg drop soup was not great...and had corn? The atmosphere here alone is mystifying enough to draw you in but Im not sure id come back for the food.
MoreEgg drop soup horrible! No egg color! Egg foo young had water gravy terrible! The shrimp egg foo young was good
MoreDont go here! Worst service ever! They are completely unorganized and poorly managed. This place used to be a great spot to get some Sushi, but has lost all credibility. Bartender is also the delivery guy! Takes forever to get a drink!
MoreOur dinner was fantastic! The menu is huge with a lot more than sushi, staff wax excellent and gracious. Well definitely go back!!
MoreBeen eating at Sushi Pirate and Hunans for years with no complaints. We ate there at the beginning of my vacation and we both got food poisoning ruining all of our plans for the rest of our vacation. It will be a very long time before I feel comfortable eating here again, and eating certain things anywhere else for a while also. Otherwise the service was great.
MoreBlack bread sushi was soooooo good
The sushi wasnt bad, it wasnt great either. What saddened me most was when I ordered a pricier dish they used imitation lobster similar in a log like the cheapest crab meat you can buy at Walmart
MoreNot only is the sushi at this place fantastic, but they are excellent in the customer service department as well! Very family oriented and willing to go above and beyond to ensure their customers are taken care of. 10/10 thank you!
MoreIf i could give zero stars i would. Went in to the restaurant and 10 other would be customers were waiting to give their order. 20 minutes later they still hadnt taken anyones order. Just call in or delivery orders. So I went back to my hotel and used a delivery. When my food arrived the spicy tuna roll was slimy and the lo main was covered in a thick layer of oil. Definitely feel sorry for the locals who have this as their sushi go to.
MoreMy first time ordering from here (via eatstreetmy experience was wonderful! I will be back regularly!
MoreAlways fresh and delivered on time. One of the best Japanese restaurant in all of Wisconsin. You can’t go wrong. Every time we come into town we always order from Sushi Pirate and never have been let down.
MoreAll time favorite sushi joint! 🍣 highly recommend. Sad we havent been able to eat in house for almost a year, while other places are allowing dine in.
MoreCrab was dramatically overcooked and inedible. I am giving them an extra star because I suspect that when theres not a pandemic and they are working at volume, they might be higher quality.
MoreOrdered takeout, the sushi was super good and it’s not costly. There are plenty of vegetarian options. We got a few rolls and some tempura vegetables
MoreWe ordered take out hibachi from here last night. The salad, rice, and vegetables were all very good, but the steak was very over cooked - well done to the point that it was tough. We ended up eating around the steak. I would recommend getting chicken if you are ordering hibachi take out from here.
MoreI used to love this place but I feel like the fish isnt as fresh as it used to be. Ive been here twice in the last month and both times I had an upset stomach and slight diarrhea. would not recommend take the extra time and drive to Shogun its much better quality and the price is better!
MoreI love their sushi and their sashimi. Since self isolating in March 2020 they have graciously delivered. Everything is prepared and delivered immediately. Extremely fresh.
MoreIll be honest, this is a polarizing restaurant. If your into adventure and interesting atmospheres then this is the place for you. I ate here for my sisters birthday, we got a sushi platter, and the food was delicious. Approved by our resident Chinese foreign exchange student as well, although he says the employees were speaking Chinese even though its a Japanese restaurant 😂.
MoreAlways my go-to and favorite place to get sushi when Im back in the area (La Crosse, Wisconsin is my hometown). The owner Simon is very friendly and always has hospitality. Hes been a family friend for years and having seen the ins and outs of his establishment I can say that he runs it very well. Fish is always fresh and gets delivered 3-4 times a week.
MoreSushi was very good and the seaweed salad tasty. Was surprised to find this gem. Waiter was new and worked hard to answer questions and be attentive. Over all a great experience. I was smiling throughout the dinner as, what appeared to be the employees children, played on the staircase. Reminds me of a real family run restaurant overseas. Bonus! Another dinning experience very soon.
MoreWe have taken our family here for the last 7 years for my husbands birthday. Every year has been great except this one. We were seated in the back room which was more like sitting in someones apartment. I can only assume the barefoot children running around with hoolahoops were relatives of people who work there. Ipads, dirty dishes, boxes of diapers were stacked everywhere. There was even a fully blown up air mattress leaning against the wall. It was like the employees were living in the dining room. The food was good, but the atmosphere was awful. We will find a new place to celebrate birthdays.
MoreNot just great Sushi for La Crosse, this was great sushi for anywhere. The rainbow roll was perfect, and the sushi platter was generous and tasty.
MoreStopped into this location to try to have a hibachi dinner experience. When we asked staff they stated that they did not have hibachi dinners. When we looked online prior to going to this location it stated a hibachi menu with prices. We did not stay to order sushi as we were looking for hibachi.
MoreNever had a bad roll from here! My personal favorite are the Godzilla rolls. Large space which would be good for bigger parties.
MoreWe stopped in on a Sunday night during a stay across the street because awe love sushi and blots of places in the area are closed Sunday evening it seems. Id characterize the atmosphere as quaint. Maybe a little dated but charming and clean. Everyone was really friendly, service was fast and friendly, and they had some interesting "fancy" rolls we had never seen before. The traditional sushi was delicious and fresh. We had a pleasant visit and support all the other 4+ star reviews for this place.
MoreSushi Pirate has excellent service, excellent food and also a wide variety of food. I was never a sushi person but my girlfriend has me try the Flying Dutchman roll, since it was cooked. Boy did I love that. Ive had sushi about once or twice a month, and this is the only place in town Ill eat it from. The fried rice is also super good, and I liked the soft shell crab. The inside is very nice and very clean, all the tables are washed properly and they dont leave food specs on the floor. I highly recommend Sushi Pirate to anyone who is looking to try/enjoys sushi.
MoreLove the place, the food is always amazing and freshly cooked when you order. They also have really nice art of the pirates from Pirates of the Caribbean. Its a nice place to eat with family.
MoreWonderful place to get sushi. I have never had a bad experience between the food, setting and staff. The sushi itself is fresh and well prepared with quality ingredients. Great food for a variety of occasions, and very helpful and friendly staff.
MoreI love this place and the atmosphere. Im always well waited on and the food is the best around in my opinion. I always get a flying dutchman, and something new. There is a large variety of food to try!
MoreNice place... Friendly service... Food was ok... I expected a little bit more quality and freshness myself being from California, but over all not a bad place to grab a couple of rolls for lunch or dinner.
MoreThe service is kind of strange, but its totally worth it in the end. Their sushi rolls are very tasty. I would recommend the Godzilla roll or Blackbeard roll. They also have their own delivery service which is really nice.
MoreI have never had a bad meal here. Most sushi resturants are stupid overpriced and the portions suck. NOT the case with this place. You get generous portions of hand crafted quality sushi that is delicious and beautiful in appearance. All in a clean comfortable enviroment at an affordable price. My favorite sushi resturant in the US. I havent been to a better one than this place.
MoreThe Pirate at the door is gross. The food was great. But we never did get one thing we ordered. Need better communication.
MoreGreat sushi, rolls, sushi for 2 is always great! Had some other dishes as well, nothing bad to say! Great atmosphere while dinning and delivery!
MoreConsistently good food; every experience there has been positive; wait staff is very nice. More options than I can usually find for sushi in the midwest too!
