We came here on a Tuesday night and it was pretty busy, very good food and service. We got the tricolor sushi and beef rib bowl with sticky rice. Highly recommend!

David is the absolute best server in town, across all restaurants. He knows the menu and sushi to the deepest levels such as history, taste, pairings and more! The sushi is phenomenal considering it is the most land locked state ever lol. Sushi masa will not disappoint (say hi to David and tell him MaryMargaret and Wade sent you:)

Needs updating. First time I ate qt this restaurant years ago, it was delicious. I was excited to bring my SO because he loves sushi. The fish smelled and he wouldnt eat the sushi. It wasnt fresh. after eating at BLU where fish is brought in fresh daily, this was a major disappointment. Expensive and we will never return. There are much better sushi places in Sioux Falls.

Service was outstanding and the food was absolutely delicious. We had a mixed variety of Sushi rolls.

Food was excellent, fresh and flavorful. Large menu with something for everyone and very generous portions. Atmosphere was cozy and artful. Our server, David, really made the experience. He was incredibly kind and informative. He made us feel welcome from the minute we walked through the door. We have never had service so excellent as he provided us. Definitely a 5 star experience.

I am moving to SF and wanted to check out sushi spots during my visit. I’ve lived in various states/cities across the US. This is hands down one of the best sushi restaurants I’ve EVER been to. The fish was like butter it was so fresh! Service was great, sushi came out quickly and I left completely satisfied. The only “issues” i see would be picking up to go orders, parking was difficult, although it was a Friday evening. I would walk in 6’ of snow for their sushi, it was that good and I’m VERY picky!One year later and still one of my favorite places in Sioux Falls. I’ve brought a few guests with me and everyone is equally impressed. Wish parking was easier or that they offered curbside pickup. Still worth it but those are my only “complaints”.

Many years ago Sushi Masa was the best sushi place in South Dakota. We routinely made it our date night spot before hitting the Washington Pavilion. But my last few dining experiences were closer to good versus great. A little smaller portions, steeper prices, a touch slower service, and other things add up. I am not saying Sushi Masa is a 2 star or 3 star place, its just not the 5 star place it once was.

I have loved this place for many years. The chef and his wife are from Nippon aka Japan. This is the only place I truly love all their fairs.

best sushi i have ever, ever had. extremely fresh tuna, like nothing i’ve had before. highly recommend, great service, great people. hole in the wall but definitely worth it.

Sushi is good, udon noodles were lacking a bit. Very small space. Surprised not to see spicy crab roll on the menu, but I wonder if theyd be able to make it anyway.

Everything about the experience here was incredible. The seating have arches and mini drapes that give an great feeling of privacy. They give you steamed towellets to wipe your hands with. The stonewear is gorgeous. The tablecloths are even high quality. They give you little lemon slices with the water. It all comes together to far and above the best atmosphere of any restaurant Ive ever been to.

Food was great. Service was top notch. Building is very small and dated. Great place for a quiet date night.

Awesome family atmosphere! The server was great and helped us work through the Japanese culture. I would recommend this to anyone who likes or loves sushi amongst other foods! Came all the way from central Iowa for this amazing food! 10/10 will being coming here again and again.

Not too worldly, so I relied on the staff’s recommendations.Nice looking restaurant, it has six booths, four tables, and three seat bar seats. Nice place, this is the first time for me coming here, however it won’t be the last time.

This place is great! Will definitely be coming back to try more sushi! Our favorites were the special cucumber which is an appetizer and the spider roll first and second photo! We also had the Isobe which is an appetizer too third photo. I was not a fan of but my husband said it was ok.

My favorite restaurant in Sioux Falls, and the best sushi in the region. If youre in time for lunch, the Lunch Special with sushi & sashimi is perfect (chefs choice sashimi, 3 pieces of nigiri, a California roll, and a spicy tuna hand roll), and the miso soup has a distinctly Midwestern leek-and-potato twist. For dinner I love the Omega 3, which has 9 pieces of salmon nigiri and a salmon maki roll, while my husband loves the hanabi roll, shrimp tempura roll, sushi masa roll, Philly maki, and spicy salmon rolls. The owners are kind and delightful and I am never disappointed in the food. Takeout or dine in, youre in for a treat.

Exceptional food and service.Properly barbecued unagi or home-made tamago is a hard find. Quality far surpasses most sushi restaurants in the US. Chef and server are amazing. Small but decent sake list. The pricing is extremely fair for the quality.

Nice place and good environment. Staff is nice. Ive got ramen and tempera. food portion is very small for this price. The side comes with a lot of fried goods.

Wonderful dinner experience. We felt very welcomed the moment we entered the restaurant. Incredibly warm and inviting serving staff. Everything from the raw beef appetizer to the sushi combo, even the salad dressing, was masterfully executed. The fish was generously portioned, meticulously arranged, and perfectly tempered. I wish I could give them more stars.

A cozy and authentic Japanese restaurant in Sioux Falls that I would visit again. We ordered the yakiniku donburi, unagi donburi, imo dango, and sweet potato tempura roll, and they were all super tasty! We were given some hot towels before our drinks, and our meals came with a really hearty potato miso soup and refreshing salad. The whole experience was wonderful, starting with the friendly server and chefs, to the neat presentation of the food, and lastly the homey flavor of authentic Japanese food. Thanks Sushi Masa! 超おいしい！

It was awesome being the first group in at 5pm, only to watch every party after us receive their orders while we waited 55 minutes, after almost an hour and 15 we left. Unsure how you can make an entire sushi boat in 10 minutes but cant put 4 rolls together in an hour. Do better.

This restautant has become one of my most favorit spots in Sioux Falls. There is really a difference between the sushi at Sushi Masa and the sushi every where else in Sioux Falls. The owners are good people. I usually frequent the restaurant on a Monday with my son and grandson. The place is small but I think that adds to the charm. When I think Sushi in Sioux Falls, and its after 5pm (they are not open for lunch), I think Sushi Masa.

We were seated.........Nobody came back to take drink orders or check on us (My daughter and I). Horrible service! I cant speak to the food being we didnt make it that far. I will say the menu is complex to say the least. Someone like me who eats sushi maybe 7-8 times a year...I felt I was in over my head at this place and that all they have. After 15 mins we got up and left. We left and went to Crawfords, that place was AMAZING and the wait staff was OUTSTANDING!! What was really wrong was the fact that the guy / waiter / host came to the 2 other tables several times and didnt even look our way....there was no other people in the place.Save yourself the trouble

Food is delicious as always but their dining is absolutely horrific!!! We were the second set of people to be sat when they opened the door, and seen about 8 people come and go for the to go orders, and had atleast 3 tables come in, eat and leave before we even got our food! Waited over an hour and a half before we got our food! When I asked how long it would take after 45 minutes, the waiter told us that the two people who make the food, makes it as the order comes in. Well that didnt make sense being we were the second set of people being sat! Absolutely ridiculous and will never dine in there again!!!

My birthday dinner at Sushi Masa last night was divine!! The crab in the Spider roll was so fresh and tender! Ditto that for the succulent shrimp in my shrimp and vegetable tempura. As always the miso soup and the house salad with ginger carrot dressing were also wonderful!

We were excited to try this place bc we heard it was supposed to be really great. Walked in to a VERY seemingly disgruntled young man who said nothing to us, but rolled his eyes as he finally got off his phone. We apparently really annoyed him bc he had to work... He then cleaned off one of the many dirty tables and slowly came back to seat us. Again, without a word. He really set a wonderful tone to our night and should absolutely NOT be in customer service, let alone at the front of a restaurant. Took 10-15min before anyone even came with water. We almost just left. Our squid appetizer was nearly inedible bc it was so hard and chewy. The sushi was mediocre at best, which is shocking for how overpriced the whole menu is. The rolls were falling apart and the pieces were so big that we had to cut them down anyway. The disgruntled gentleman overheard me say something about all the tables still sitting covered in dishes and again rolled his eyes at me. It’s hard to not make observations when you’re stuck waiting forever for anything. We were there nearly 2 hours. It was a waste of $90. I will say there was a young lady who ended up at our table, was sweet, and tried to salvage the experience. Overall, rude host, very slow service, and overpriced okay-ish food. We won’t be back.

Not too impressed with this joint at all. The wife and I went out for a date night last week and they were subpar on everything. The service was extremely slow, the interior of the restaurant was extremely outdated and most importantly the food was mediocre at best. We have been looking for a decent sushi place since moving to SD and this is just not a top pick for us. We waited/had to remind them of our drink/food order 20+min after ordering, the rolls were semi edible and the restrooms were one of those where you probably should use a paper towel to open the door. Seriously a few hundred bucks on interior decor would do your restaurant some major good.

Every menu item has a picture. I love that. I’ve only tasted fully cooked dishes here, but they’re delicious. Friendly employees. Give it a whirl!

Third dining experience at Sushi Masa, and while Ive never had a bad meal here, this time was the best! Our server was very attentive and friendly, and all of our food came out exactly as ordered. The sashimi I ordered was fresh and tasty, my beer mug was cold and frosty and everyone else in my party had nothing but good things to say. Thank you Sushi Masa, we will be back!

This is the best and most authentic sushi place in Sioux Falls. If there are bad reviews about sushi masa it is probably because those people like more Americanized sushi. Which is fine but this place doesn’t try to do that. If you want the best most authentic sushi place in Sioux Falls go here. Absolutely amazing sushi selection and the soft shell crab is amazing!

Truly a one of a kind experience. Everything is extremely fresh and prepared to perfection. Owner prepares every piece of sushi and does it with the care of a true Master. So lucky to have this restaurant here in Sioux Falls. Amazing.

Loved the Dynamite Hand Roll (mixed seafood with mayo). The shrimp tempura and gyoza were tasty.The Oyako Don was watery and not recommended.A small and quaint restaurant. Good date atmosphere.

I never really liked Sushi but I figured I’d give it another try with my friend who loves it. So good!!! Oh my! Loved everything we got! Everything else was perfectly cooked, beautiful plating, and so incredibly tasty. Service was awesome. Can’t wait to go back. Good job guys I don’t give excellent reviews often. Anyone that’s thinking to try them must go. ❤️

Have to go eat at Sushi Masa, every time Im back visiting South Dakota. They serve up some of the best sushi Ive had, and its one of my favorite guilty pleasures. (Maybe its the nostalgiaThe staff is always prompt and courteous. We always do a big group and eat family style and there hasnt been something I havent truly enjoyed. Try the fish soup when temp drop so delicious.

We sat at the sushi bar and had fabulous service from the chef and our server. We shared a platter, had the miso soup as well as a custom roll. We will definitely be back!

It was an interesting place. As a native of the California Bay Area I fancy myself a bit of an authority on quality and authentic sushi. Freshness and quality of the fish is paramount which puts land-locked South Dakota at a disadvantage. That being said, the fish was fine. So since I cant fairly compare freshness, the key here is the rice. Innocuous as it may seem, there is an art to properly prepared rice and it can make or break sushi. Their rice was wonderfully prepared, having, in my opinion, perfect consistency and moisture content. I definitely recommend this place.

So so good. Everything is good. The chef here is so friendly and nice. The salad is so fresh and crispy. Their salad bowl is cold and keep the salad well. Hot hand towels for hand cleaning before having meals. I love their nice service. All the food we ordered were amazing. My husband ordered some sushi and he said it’s crazy good. The shrimps in my noodle were so good too. My kid’s meal is yummy too. Definitely worth the price!

Given the distance from any ocean, any sushi in the Midwest should mostly be avoided. This, however, is not that kinda place. The sushi provided is excellent. Its not the best Ive ever had, but its better than mediocre. Given the location--many hours from a coastline--its pretty excellent.The number one complaint I have is the servers. Ive been seated at the bar and have received absolutely amazing service. Ive also been seated ever-so-slightly out-of-view and have waited over two hours to be served. Honestly, if I hadnt already received my cheap sake and started a nice conversation with my date, we would have left at least two hours prior.Good food, good place, great chefs/owners, terrible servers. ... I cant even complain about service because its entirely dependent on whos serving you.

I love the building and main room. Its small but spacious for many dining tables. Inside its very cozy and comfortable, and could easily swing from romantic to family depending on who you are with.I loved the service as well, the waiter brough some hot towels for your hands and was very kind with suggestions and checking on us during our decisions on what to order. I really liked the menu as well, yes you have your standard sushi and sushimi that you will get elsewhere, but they also have legit Japanese dishes that you just wont find in Sioux Falls. Probabbly not unless you were to go to Minneapolis in Minnesota for your closest option.I got the Okonomi Yaki which is like a Japanese pancake thats stuffed with seafood and lots of good stuff and sauces. Its huge, and could easily be split between two people but I ate it all because I like to hate myself later at night I guess. It was delicious, a bit heavy on sauces I think for my taste, but Ill definitely order it again. The person I was with also got a rice bowl with a Japanese omelette ontop (don), and that was great as well. The rice was well cooked and the flavors were dripping down and flavoring the whole dish. Sort of like a much heartier bibimbap from Korean restaurants but with egg.If you want legit and home made Japanese meals beyond sushi and some basic noodle dishes. Go here. This is the place in Sioux Falls you are looking for.

Just as delicious as this photo looked. Fresh and wonderful. I learned a lot about sake by ordering their sake sampler that came with an informative key. Very nice server who answered my questions without making me feel like a dummy. I would definitely go here again if I am in Sioux Falls.
