Have driven by this place for years and always wondered how it was. It was delicious, and the service was great. There were seven of us and everyone was happy. We ordered many different things and enjoyed all of them. The saki and plum wine were delightful too. Highly recommend.

Really good food plus amazing staff. They definitely have knowledgeable ethnic staff. I always trust a person from that culture to cook the best food, and they do.

Reasonable price on bento box. I enjoyed my lunch today and will definitely return when I am in the vicinity. Was busy and quite a popular place for the community.

Came in with a reservation because I wasn’t sure if there would be a wait time- I was greeted immediately when I walked in, & by name! Had a table waiting for me, and received immediate service from Kim’s smiling face! I ordered some of my favorite “go to” rolls, and all of them were amazing. You can tell this quickly becomes peoples “go to” restaurant. Customers coming in and out to eat, pick up orders, most greeted by name. Love this restaurant and the workers! I’ll definitely be coming back! 💕

Sushi and Nigiri are massive! Everything is delicious and fresh. The staff are very polite and kind. Only downside was the place was a bit disorganized, but overall still very clean.

This place has AMAZING food. Its by far my favorite little hole in the wall. Everyone who works there is so sweet too. It really does feel like a family owned and run business. I love being able to support this business eat their amazing and affordable food.

I kinda messed up and went to the location before ordering. They prefer a takeout order over the phone but either my phone or their phone wasnt working because I couldnt get through.Anyways, this is as good as it gets concerning teriyaki in Portland. Their sauce is great. Their chicken is great. I would have liked more white rice, two scoops instead of one. The staff is very nice and its a great place to go for a family meal.

Oh my God this place is amazing! I ordered a gyoza plate and the sunomono salad with the octopus and it was stellar. For 10.50 I got the sunomono which was super yummy with a great sauce and the gyoza plate! It also came with complementary miso soup and a salad. It was a perfect lunch especially for someone on a budget. The staff were really nice and I will definitely come back!

The biggest sushi pieces I have ever been served. Excellent beef teriyaki and rice. We will be back.

Affordable, delicious Japanese food from a real Japanese family.I had the snow pea and chicken stir fry. Some of the best stir fry I’ve had in a restaurant. Highly recommended.

I go here for dinner with the fam a couple times a month. Great service, great sushi and close to home. Pass the wasabi!! 🤩🤩🤩

The sushi is inedible. Is this even real fish? If so its definitely not fresh. Its not hyperbole, this is the worst sushi Ive had in my life. Maybe the Thai dishes here are better but I wont be back to try them.

The best restaurants are always no-frills in strip malls, arent they? Dont let the location fool you. These folks make exceptional (and surprisingly affordablesushi and teriyaki. You could go pay 2x for Bamboo Sushi downtown, or drive 15 min south into Milwaukie and get sushi thats just as good for a great price. Highly, highly, highly recommended!

We came for lunch, each got a bento box. I never understood the hype for tempura until I ate it here. It was absolutely fantastic, the crisp tunes of the tempura over the softest juiciest shrimp, was superb. The sushi was melt in your mouth, the maguro (tunawas especially amazing considering the fact that I think it might be Akami cut. Either way, it was really good. It was an extremely filling meal for both my partner and I. The best part was the entire check price was under $20. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt like food was sold to me at great price for great quality without going somewhere where you feel like you have to dress up. It’s a really cozy little hole in the wall restaurant, and the same family has been operating it for as long as I can remember, at least a decade. This is a place I have always come back to over time, but after this last meal we’re thinking of making this a regular lunch spot. I cannot rate this place high enough. 6/5 stars.

Have been going here off and on since it opened. Quality of my food keeps getting worse. My Katsu was dry as hell. Salad dressing and soup has also gone down hill. Your supposed to get better with your food quality. And the restaurant looks exactly the same. Put some pride into your food and establishment. Im pretty sure I will not go back unless someone else is paying.

The fish, poultry & veggies are always fresh and of high quality. The volcano roll is the foremost of all tempura rolls. The service and owner/operators are exemplary

Tasty foods, generous portion, friendly service. Our sushi order were fresh and the protein portion were big. Complementary miso soup for each guest not just per meal. Place look Unassuming from outside but clean and well keep inside. It very cozy inside and the way we were treated it feels like we are visiting a family for a meal.Very good balance of taste, portion and prices. Our only regret is the place is not that close to where we live.

I absolutely love sushi kata!The staff are always so kind and welcoming to everyone. Its like seeing family every time I go there.The fish is always fresh and prepared wonderfully.

I waited patiently for three other people, that came in after me to pay/get there food. I was helped after there wasn’t anyone else waiting. Then the waitress went to go help five more people before she finally came back 16 minutes later. Then she hands me a box of food that had been sitting on the table behind her before I even walked in. I can’t believe this happened here. I came here all the time. I would go back but they wouldn’t remake or refund my order. If it wouldn’t have been all raw fish I wouldn’t have really cared. I was in the store for almost an hour before my food was finally handed to me. On top of it all, they asked me to leave when I nicely pointed out what happened

No need to wait for hours at suburbs on Sellwood. This place is excellent. The only thing we didnt like was the imitation crab texture was OFF. Hopefully they will get that fixed.

Very friendly service. Food quality is better than average. The one thing that is different here is there calamari they use a tempura batter, I dont know if its better but its different and its unique

I would give more stars if I could, I love Sushi Kata! Its hard to find a better deal or a better staff than here, and Ive never had something I didnt like. They always follow through and are quick to resolve any issues. I recommend the tempura veggies and the beef donburi! Not to mention the Japanese treat at the end and included soup/salad make it a great meal!

This place is amazing. The food is affordable, fresh and incredibly delicious. The owners are so nice and attentive. I highly recommend this place and I am so glad that we found it.

The reviews of this place sounded too good to be true, but it is true! We tried this place for the first time after my in-laws said we MUST eat here. We were not disappointed! Portions are very large and the food is very fresh. The sushi rolls are huge. And best of all, the prices are so reasonable. Prices are 50% less expensive than the other classic sushi spots. We will be regulars here!

The business looks family owned and they are so sweet and friendly. Food was great and fresh. The menu is diverse enough that everyone was happy. Only wish they had more for desserts but either way it was a great experience.

I ordered the spicy Teriyaki chicken, the meat was really good. Pretty big portion, it came with miso soup and a salad. Price was really good too. Best bang for your buck Id say.

I love sushi kata. Large servings for the affordable price.. might seem like too much or too good to be true but, its that good. NEVER in the 8 years Ive been eating here have I experienced any fishy smells or fish that wasnt fresh. The owners and staff are AMAZING.

This place is great! I was surprised with the quality and quantity of food. The prices were so low that I had assumed the servings would be rather small so I over ordered for our family of 5. We ended with enough food for at least 3 full dinners for the entire family for the normal price of eating out once. I highly recommend them.

This place is absolutely deserving of its rating. Its unbelievable the amount of fish they give you for prices 50% lower than anywhere else, and its really high quality too! The maguro is melty and flavorful, the rolls are large and well portioned, and the gyoza is absolutely killer. Great flavor, perfect fry.On top of all that they have the to-go process absolutely nailed.The simple answer to whether you should go here is: youd be out of your mind not to.

Great sushi place! Huge, affordable portions. The staff is friendly and crack jokes all the time. There are plenty of regulars here and for good reason. The dining area is simple and quaint. They do a lot of call in orders to go. I ordered the dinner bento box for a bite of everything and it was massive. I feel so lucky to have this place in the neighborhood.

Fantastic fish, love the prices, quiet place as well. Only problem was that I was chewing down a piece of sushi and found a hair, then upon closer inspection found another hair in my sushi... I mean, I don’t care about styrofoam or plastic bags, and I’ll likely keep coming back - but maybe some hair nets might help guys. 🤷‍♂️

We knew nothing about this place except the reviews we found on line. It turned out to be a really great find. The quality of the food was very good, the prices were very reasonable and the service was excellent. It isnt a fancy place, but the people are so wonderful, and there was really nothing lacking at all.

Very delicious food, came in with a group of about 6 (plus a babywe were seated right away and the food came out really promptly! The chicken teriyaki was SO good. The service was wonderful, the lady that served us was so friendly and even gave us cookies when we were done. Next time I am in OR I will be visiting!!! 10/10
