Relaxed chain serving seafood tacos, chicken wraps & other Californian-Mexican fare, plus smoothies.
Bought three fish tacos. I couldn’t even finish it. Terrible taste and texture. Never again! Wife had Nachos. She tossed them as well. Black beans weren’t cooked all the way through.
First time there. Tacos were really good with fresh ingredients. I recommend the Mahi Mahi tacos!
Tacos were good, ingredients and sauces were fresh. Ordered four and it was fast. Their signature ones the top two on menu are the best. Each order contains one taco and too many chips. I was full from chips instead of tacos. Really willing to pay a bit more to get two tacos per order and no chips. The staff had mixed quality: one very helpful and quick the other idle and uninterested.
Excellent food and fantastic salsa bar. I have yet to find an item on the menu that is not tasty. My favorite is the Monterey Burrito Bowl with grilled chicken (actually char grilled, not from a griddletopped with Verde salsa. The flavors just pop in you mouth. The fresh cilantro that they use adds another dimension. The staff is always nice and the service is fast and efficient. Definitely one of my favs for lunch.
Best tacos in the Princeton area. I highly recommend the chicken teriyaki tacos or the fish tacos. The Baja salsa is excellent.
Really great food and friendly service. The taco salad is my favorite menu item and it is big enough for two people. I get it with grilled chicken, highly recommend
My first visit was today and I got the Buffalo soldier subbed the bleu cheese with ranch but still got bleu cheese and I went back and the kitchen staff said it was ranch and I think I know the difference between the two tastes as some who hates the taste of bleu cheese. Not to mention the chef was rude to me about it as well. Should have went to the pho spot.
Long story short, they were closing and my hungry dumb self ordered and got there late. They stayed open for me to pick up!!! Super kind and understanding, great people and the order was spot on!
Clean place, good service, and while the food wasnt exactly life-changing, its still tasty.
I promised honest reviews. I have to admit the smell upon walking in the door does smell like sewer. The young man constantly playing with his hair while taking the order cashing us out and bringing our food was a bit unhygienic. The staff was kind and the food was ok but not WOW. For me its a hard pass.
Ive been too most surf tacos in NJ. And always enjoyed the foods. Not really happy with the food in Princeton. My Jenks burrito was very bland, and the place always smells like sewage inside for some reason? Ive given this place at least 5 tries and always the same
Expensive for what you get. Got a bunch of chips and no salsa rice and beans no fork rice tastes old. Tacos are good but 14$ for that and a small drink is ridiculous
A robust and meaty taco up in this jawn. Absolutely delicious with a phenomenal staff. Manager Eric was incredibly friendly and offered great advice on what to order. Ill be back asap
fish and shrimps were bitter and without sauce, it just tastes like brand lettuce. To be honest, I was really hyped but unfortunately it did not live up. Silver Lining is that the guy at the counter has good people skillsSorry guys, but yall dropped the ball with the food here
Had the chimmy! Was amazingly fresh and delicious highly recommend this place. Service was quick and friendly and prices were very good. Portions were very good too.
I was looking for something light but filling to eat and Surf Taco delivered. As a "newbie" to tacos this place exceeded my expectations. Im definitely a fan...good job..!!
Had the surf taco and teriyaki chicken taco. The surf taco was not impressive, the battered cod had that mushy, kind of muddy texture that frozen fried fish gets. Not pleasant. The teriyaki chicken taco was much better. The teriyaki and pineapple mixed well and had a nice flavor, and the chicken wasnt overly dry like it can get sometimes.
Excellent tacos. Very friendly and fast service. They have salsa out you can help yourself to with your chips and the salsas are excellent.
Sadly, I agree with the other poor reviews. Visited today 12/26/19 and ordered the surf burrito (the battered fish). The minimal wait time for an in house meal should’ve indicated that this wasn’t freshly made to order, but the lukewarm fish solidified that fact. The sauce they usually should use for this burrito wasn’t evenly distributed and the fish was bland and tasted off (again didn’t help that it wasn’t hot). So the stars go mostly for the chips. Honestly, the salsa could use work, too. Go to any standard mexican place and you get a nice hot salsa. None of these are spicy. For such an expensive burrito, and for something lacking quality, I doubt I will return to this location. I’ve had good orders near the beach.
Great food lots of seafood options for tacos which is pretty cool. Fast service great prices, super friendly.
A good place to get a taste of southern California in New Jersey. Expect prices ranging from $8 to $15 per person, assuming you buy a meal and a drink.
Great choices for Mexican food, and even a giant salsa bar! Probably one of the best Mexican in Princeton.
I was here tonight to pick up food with friends and it was absolutely delicious. We ordered a pretty large order for pick up and it was all correct and everyone was happy.
Been here a couple times and dont think Ill be going back. The food just isnt as good as I always hope it will be. In general it just lacks flavor. Always friendly service and its got a cool vibe but...the food. Its a shame because Im always in the area and would be in here constantly if it was any good.
Food was very good. Fresh and flavorful. Wish they had unsweetened iced tea, but cant be too choosy.
This is a fast-food format. Order at the counter and theyll bring it to your table. There is salsa and plastic-wear at a station near the tables. They have more than fish tacos, but fish tacos are their specialty. The fish tacos come on a soft tortilla and are a bit over-stuffed. They taste great. The platters come with chips, beans and white rice on a plate that is too small. The place is clean and well maintained.
After reading all the bad reviews my boyfriend and I were leery of eating here, we usually go to the one in Long Branch and love it! We gave it a go and was pleasantly surprised. I had the usual Surf Taco and my boyfriend had the mahi mahi Taco, and we both enjoyed the chips and sauce. We will definitely be back. Most of the bad reviews mentioned that their food wasn’t hot or it was soggy when delivered. I would definitely recommend eating at the restaurant while it’s still fresh and hot. We went on a Wednesday evening and there was a nice crowd.
Chicken Tender taco was very good. Chips were warm and seasoned good. 4 different salsas to choose from. Worth a try !
Thank you surf Gods for hearing this main-landers request! We have lived in the Princeton area since 2006 and when we moved into the area, I was having Surf Taco withdrawal. We moved from the shore were many of the shore towns have a surf taco.I always said Id be in heaven if a surf taco came to Princeton. Lets this be a testament to the power of the universe. I put it out there and low and behold, WE NOW HAVE A SURF TACO!!Laid back surf style ambiance with islands music often being played in the backdrop.Large portions of pure deliciousness. Their burritos are excellent. I like to get them smothered (covered in cheese and salsa).
Surf Taco never disappoints me and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I had a nice conversation with Zachary Artman who was a nice young man and took his job very seriously.
Its a great day for a Surf Taco visit...My Maverick burrito is tasty and the salsa is ridiculously fresh. So glad they opened up a shop in Princeton!
I really like this place because it’s a good place when I want to get something quick. The quality of the food is amazing. I’ve never complained about the food which shows how good it is. I also like how they have a variety to chose from on the menu.
I really like this joint! The tacos, especially, are very yummy. They have a number of really appealing choices. My favorites are the mahi mahi and steak tacos. The steak is real steak grilled upon order. The prices are reasonable and the staff has always been pleasant. The place is always clean.
Great combo deal with Maverick’s Burrito, Surf Taco, chips and a drink. Service was very quick and restaurant clean and quiet.
The establishment was clean, customer service was excellent. The food was soooo good and fresh. I had the cod fish taco with white cilantro sauce. Ill definitely go back.
Good lively atmosphere, and great tacos and burritos to choose from, highly recommend getting your tacos baja style. Staff here is very pleasant and friendly, always happy and smiling !!
Surf taco is such an amazing place. I have been going with my family since they opened. I have never experienced any negativity and the food is always amazing. Keep up the good work!
Sooo yummy! Food is fresh and very flavorful. Staff is courteous and friendly. I love the baja salsa and the fact that the food isnt soaking in broth or grease. I have had many other taco salads in a fried tortilla shell and none compare to surf taco. The shell actually stays crunchy!
I was so excited to try this place, so my husband and I went today (Sundayaround 11:30 for lunch. I ordered the coconut shrimp mango taco, and my husband got the carne asada taco as well as the salmon taco. We also got the cheese and chips to share. I am sad to say that we were both very disappointed in the quantity as well as quality of our food. My shrimp taco had *one* shrimp in the whole 6 inch taco, and it was overcooked. The rest was lettuce and salsa, which didnt taste fresh as you would expect from a coastal taco place. My husbands salmon taco was similar, with one very small piece of salmon that was so overcooked, he said it resembled cat food. It was very disappointing, especially for the $27 we spent.
If you want fresh Mexican without feeling like you drank a bottle of warm grease then go here!!! Quick service too, busy at lunch but they have the option to place orders in advance! Limited parking due to other establishments in the area
Great food and friendly service make this a top choice for a quick bite to eat
The ambience of Surf Taco is friendly and hip with a relaxed beachy vibe. The staff here were very kind and pleasant and the restaurant was clean and well maintained. I also appreciated the ConnectFour games that were out to keep my kids occupied while we briefly waited for our food. Unfortunately, that food was disappointing. We tried: the beef taco (meat tasted okay but lacked any noticeable spices or flavors); the surf taco baja style (the cod was not crispy); classic sunset burrito (mainly rice and beans and couldnt really taste the ranch); classic quesadilla (just blackened chicken and cheese). The only thing that I would order again is the coconut shrimp taco with mango salsa- it was delicious. All the tortillas seemed to be store bought and the salsa bar was disappointing. The salsa bar sounds like a great idea, but the regular, verde, and baja salsas were bland and watery (we skipped the hot). Jarred salsa tastes better than this. Perhaps it was an off day, but we probably wont be heading back, which is a shame because we really wanted to love Surf Taco.
I looooove this surf taco...the food is always amazing and comes out quickly which is perfect for when I’m on the run. The staff is beyond friendly and their GM has made it a point to check on the customers-which you don’t see to often at chain restaurants.
This place is very welcoming with delicious food. If you’re looking for a chill, laid back place with a Mexi-Cali feel, this is the place for you. With the short amount of time it has been open, it seems as this spot is ran very well with a good staff. Having management that knows what they’re doing is key to success; bravo to them. Keep up the good work! GUAC AND ROLL! 🌮
Prices are way to high and the burrito was very bad it lacked any flavor. It is sad when you can taste the lettuce in a burrito over any other flavor the steak has no flavor and the jalapenos where huge it was a poorly constructed completely lack of taste burrito they should be ashamed of calling this place a taco shop the nachos were good but the main dish was a waste of money and they could easily fix the problems i would not suggest eating here and I would be surprised if they are open in a year if I were a betting man I would place a bet that they are one of the companies that shut down in the first year so not eat here and a suggestion to the owner please teach your employees that they need to try harder to make a burrito that the customer wants not a tortilla that is just stuffed with the ingredients but take the time to actually construct a items someone will enjoy
Location finally opened and been to the location a few times already. I am glad to say it eas worth the wait. Food is fresh and made to order and selections are great. I highly recommend the tsunami if you are going to dine in it is one of their signature dishes. They make there salsa fresh daily and always make sure it is fresh in the salsa bar changing it out on a regularly through out the day
Working in Plainsboro there are limited options right in town for a quick and easy lunch away from the office. I was excited to hear about the new Surf Taco Princeton location opening up as I have been to the Manasquan location many times. The atmosphere was fun and relaxed and I was able to get my to go order quickly and with plenty of time to get back to the office on my lunch hour. The manager and cashier were very friendly and helpful in answering any questions that customers had as they were waiting in line to order. The dining room was clean and well kept. The new spices in the shredded chicken are great! Best of luck to the new location! I will definitely be back and bringing friends from the office to try it out! :-)
I came in for the grand opening and was blown away by the service, cleanliness and warmth of the staff. I went back 2 days later because of how impressed I was and once again was amazed. The food is AWESOME and the restaurant is so well run it’s clear that management knows exactly what they’re doing. Well done!! I will definitely be frequenting this new location! A big win for Surf Taco as a corporation.
I was so excited for this location to finally open!! It was definitely not a disappointment. I got the mahi tacos. Two was more than enough. These tacos are stuffed and awesome. With the chips they give u and salsa bar I was totally set and ready to go. Place is clean and staff was very nice. The turn around was quick but not too quick which would make me think everything in the back is laying around getting mushy. Great meal Ill be back!
Excellent tacos! I know about surf taco from their Manasquan location that I visit in the summer. The only place I know that has more than a few versions of fish tacos and extra chips if you prefer. The salsa bar is unique and has a few different versions. Definitely better than what taco truck offered.
