The Suramadu Bridge (Indonesian: Jembatan Suramadu), also known as the Surabaya–Madura Bridge, is a cable-stayed bridge between Surabaya on the island of Java and the town of Bangkalan on the island of Madura in Indonesia.[4] Opened in June 2009,[5] the 5.4-km bridge is the longest in Indonesia and the second longest in southern hemisphere. The longest in the country.This cable stayed design has original plan that can be opened when there are boats or ship cross below the bridge, but the implementation nowhere near there.Funny things that within a week of its opening, it was discovered that nuts and bolts as well as maintenance lamps had been stolen. And also vandalism had been documented too (wow.. so much of being indonesian, huh?)Hope this Landmark stays strong until the end of the time, and govt keep maintaining periodically this beautiful monument.

Dekade of dream to across the strait without ship. Unfortunately need better house keeping. Maybe start to take some fee again to across the bridge so theres enough budget to pay the maintenance and house keeping cost

I and my wife had a spectacular cross on two wheels over the bridge in 2020. It was windy, making it even more exciting. Free of charge. Previously in 2010 (when it was still brand newwe made a cross on four wheels at dark night, not much to see except the nice festival of lights on the bridge and passing boats below. Nothing to enjoy at the Madura side.

We crossed the bridge to get to my moms hometown in Sampang, Madura Island. Bear in mind that you cannot stop by along the road! I had this thought crossed my mind (was touched by the sea view! this bridge really helpful because we can cross to Madura island faster than take a ship. but be careful when you ride motorcycle because sometimes the wind strong,thats because the bridge crossed ocean.
