Sun Bay National Park - National park in Fajardo, Puerto Rico
Sun bay was a great calm beach. The water was super clear and it was practically empty when we went. We visited this beach twice due to the convenience of location and the beautiful water.
Facilities are run down but the beach was nice.
Beautiful beach that want crowded early and not too crowded late.
Beautiful and peaceful!
All places in Puerto Rico God made is breathtaking. Almost everything that man has put its dirty little paws in is rundown, dilapidated, or third world ish.For instance the parking lot at Sun Bay is full of potholes. Trash every were even though there are trash cans station thru out. There are some small building at the entrance but they are run down full of graffiti and trash. The beach is beautiful once you get pass mans handy work.
Felt like I had the beach to myself. I would love to go back
Nice beach. Hard to compare with Culebrita, Flamenco, Trunk Bay but nice stop. Few people. Plenty of space. 15 minute walk from Esperanza.
Amazing!
By far one of the best beaches on Earth and Ive been all over the planet
Beautiful
Big beach
Great beach for relaxing. Go elsewhere for snorkeling
The best
Best beach after Flemenco in Puerto Rico
Fabulous ❤
Beautiful. Clear blue water.
The short: Stayed here for a fabulous 4 days of camping on beautiful sandy beach. Only downside was ants.Getting thereWe were in San Juan trying to decide what to do when we came across the Sun Bay National Park in Vieques. Took the ferry over (wasnt a problem on a weekday but there is the potential to get bumped for locals who get priorityand managed to get a Publico (local bus/van transportation systemto drop us off at the campground. It was extremely empty and still suffering from Maria fixes, but with wild horses to greet us as we walked in the front gates, we were super excited.FacilitiesI had spoken to Manuel at the campground earlier that morning (got his number from City Hallto confirm they were open for business. I found him in a small managers room right to the left after entering. He gave us a detailed tour of the showers (great pressure), bathrooms (clean and well-litand campground (big and open and empty with spots under trees or out in the open). He showed us the best spot and let us set up the only tent in the area. He also let us know there was a security guard on site all night but no fence.CampsiteThe spot we chose was on the edge of the sand. The good was that we had an amazing view, the bad was that we had most of the wind from the wide open ocean. Luckily our tent is pretty fabulous but it did lose a couple tie downs in a 40+ mph blow one night.BeachThe beach was great but there are a bunch of small biting ants and they actually chewed through our tarp-bottomed tent looking for a fruit that had smashed. This was fun to find out at 4am. They ended up coming through multiple places and we should have moved the tent but it was the last night so we didnt. They were easy to take care of.WavesThe waves were strong, but you can walk around to the right up the beach and around the corner towards Esperanza and the water on the other side of the trees is calm and fun snorkeling. There are also spots to camp under the trees over there but Im not so sure about the legality/safety of those spots. The Sun Bay campground felt super safe.SnorkelingWalking in the other direction we found great snorkeling about 8 minutes walking down the beach at the very end next to the rocks. We found lots of fish, Octopus, sea grass and snorkeling. Apparently this is also near where the Mosquito Bay Bioluminescent Bay is but we had lots of moonlight so skipped that.FoodThere was a good restaurant on site that was open Friday-Sunday during the low-season when we visited. They were delicious and made it so we did not have to walk back into town (15min walk to Esperanza). For most of our meals we made the walk to Esperanza where we ate really good food, although the prices were pretty high. We could have saved a couple hundred dollars by buying food at the mini-mart and using our camp stove. The small mini-mart was about a 10 minute walk down the road, so you probably dont need a car if youre happy just camping in one spot.Hurricane MariaI talked with Manuel again before leaving and he told me that he and his 4 man crew were trying to bring back the campground to its former pre-Maria state and with how wonderful it was I cant imagine how good it will be. The hurricane flooded the local quarters, ruined their vehicles and sent sand 300 feet inland, what theyve done so far is amazing. Lifeguard stations havent been rebuilt but the facilities were in great shape.Overall we had a great experience other than the biting ants, and plan on visiting again.
During weekdays you practically have the whole place to yourself. Awesome water.
Great beach!
So pleasant in the water. The lifeguard towers are still out of commission, but other things are needed more after hurricane Maria.
Family friendly extra clean
Beautiful big beach with spectacular views. It does not have the fanciest amenities, and in some places its pretty rough, but if you dont mind that oh, its a beautiful place. Feel free to scour the beach to find an ideal spot for you. The water gets deep pretty quickly and it can be fairly rough waves.
Always a great sunset and lots of horses
Lots of horses in the park. The beach is not good for swim since there are too many seaweeds in the shore.
Sunscreen is a must
Beautiful... Just awesome
The beach was beautiful. Loved everything about it. Only problem is there are a lot of bees. Which is wonderful for our earth but scary when being surrounded by them.
Loved it!
Great white sand beach for swimming and kid friendly
The best
Beautiful beaches
Beautiful and quiet.
Nice Beach but hard to get in and out of the water do to a drop off from the waves
Lovely Beach😍
beautiful beach
beautiful beach, clean and huge with little people on it.
Very nice beach for walking, viewing, hanging out. Plus a restaurant if you want drinks ($9/frozen cocktail). you can walk from this beach to Esperanza in 5 minutes. lots of palm trees so you can get some shade. Its just barely wide enough to set up a volleyball net in a couple places. the sand is rougher than on Caracas Beach (larger particulate sizebut easy to walk on. If you want to walk around to the island (Punta de Tierra), then youll need some shoes/footwear that can handle sharp coral).
Really lovely place
Nice Beach to relax the entire day!
I like a lot, and the wild horses.
Awesome

It is miles of paradise. Perfect weekend to visit. There was not a lot of people.
Beach looked nice but the water was filled with sea grass.
Sun Bay is really really nice. Its close enough to the main street in Esperanza that you can walk. Also, in the campsite there are freshwater showers to wash off the sticky saltwater and you can buy drinks and delicious empanadas.
Its a lovely beach park. Excellent to tent camping, relaxing, kids will enjoy it, the nearest place to stay if you want to visit 3 beaches the same day and the Florescent lagoon at night time.
A blue flag beach in Vieques, you can be restful and on your own admiring the nature
Beautiful
Beautiful clean beach. Family friendly atmosphere.
Beautiful beach, and wild horses to boot.
