Sumida Aquarium in Tochigi

I was surprised to find an aquarium here - and it was even a bit cooler than I expected. There are only a handful of exhibits so you could walk through quickly - though I would recommend slowing down and enjoying the atmosphere.

Small but impactful aquarium. Amazing displays, including world class aquascapes.

Went there for the penguins and was quite lucky because we got there just in time for the penguins feeding time. Other than penguins they have jellyfish, koi, goldfish, and seals.Worth stopping by if you are coming over to the Skytree and love penguins.

Good location, tanks are of a good standard and the jellyfish area is striking. However, it is small due to the location and very expensive when compared with other aquariums.

Beautiful exhibits with a focus on lights. You can even buy light up food and drinks!

I just come here to see the work of Amano Aquascape. Wonderful experience. There are museum of jelly fish and penguin area. Good spot for family with children. It is next to Sensoji so you can visit all together.

A medium sized aquarium with a number of penguins, many types and numbers of jellyfish, and a goldfish exhibit.

Not sure if its worth the 2300¥ but its a nice set with lots of types of jellyfish, goldfish and penguins. There are other tanks but those 3 sealofe are the dominant displays. There is a jellyfish lab which you can ask staff about reproducing the variety of jellyfish. We were lucky to be walking past the penguins during feeding time to see all that cuteness. Its a small aquarium and another venue to enjoy at the Skytree.We were able to purchase tickets via the machine and pay using a credit card.There is a stamp at the information desk on the bottom floor.

Fairly small aquarium but so beautiful and well laid out. There are some very unique, beautiful exhibits that are different to any other aquarium I’ve been to. The gift shop has a good selection and it’s reasonably priced.

A modern aquarium with fish, penguins and lots of goldfish. The jellyfish area is beautiful, and beautifully lit too. It takes around 2 hours (or lesserto have a tour of the aquarium. The main tank named the Ogasawara tank is another highlight. Good for kids as well as adults.

Very clean aquarium, pleasant smell around. Huge variety of jelly fish, penguins, some seals. Adorable garden-eels tank. Wish there was a but more species of fish.

When I got here to see the location, I realized the entry price was in a higher spectrum. The place is a bit small, but the size didnt really affect my experience here. There are two main attractions of the place. First, the extensive collection of jellyfish and penguin enclosure. Second, the aquascape made by the late aquascaping master, Takashi Amano.

We had lots of fun watching the fish and other sea creatures.During the covid-19, we had to wait for our time slot to wait in queue to enter, which took long time but there is an arcade of shops to wander around.

Crazy overcrowding. The aquarium forces you to buy tickets ahead of time online so they clearly can manage proper entry limits if they wanted to - instead it’s a money grab. We won’t even talk about the mockery they make of social distancing suggestions.TLDR; it’s too crowded to get near the tanks and the offerings are very limited compared.

Nicely designed and laid out aquarium. However, its rather small, which is why I think the pricing is a bit off. Hence, the 3 star rating.

Worth for its money if you are diced between the sky tree and the Aquariam I would recommend you to skip the line for the Aquariam and head here .you will have an amazing experience watching different marine life .

It’s very nice and the jellyfish are so cool. It’s not really that big but it is perfect for kids and a good place to chill for a little while. It is definitely expensive at around 2,500 yen. I think there are better aquariums in Tokyo but I think it’s really cool that Skytree has its own one!

Nice place to go in Tokyo. It’s not as big as churaumi aquarium美ら海水族館 or kasai rinkai koen葛西臨海公園, but still worth the visit. Entrance fee costs ¥2300 now and ¥4600 for year-ticket where you can enter anyway within a year. For the time being as coronavirus is still affecting, you can only buy it online, or just make a reservation.

Amazing. Really great for kids. It’s not the biggest; but the fresh water aquascapes were incredible and the penguins were just spectacular! So many of the little guys. Thoroughly recommended. I would visit again :).Nice to see the tanks so clean and the animals looking healthy and well looked after - also the glass was not scratched!

Awesome experience. It’s a small aquarium, can be done in about 1 hour. It was lovely though, and not too crowded. The price is about 2500¥, so it’s not too expensive. Since it’s located in the mall you can hop in and go for a coffee or lunch after.

Nice place to visit. Main attractions are the seal, penguin and jellyfish. The aquarium is pretty and the visit can be done in less than an hour. I find the price expensive for this short tour.

Very interesting n educational morning observing the exhibits. Some fishes are tiny though. The two storey fish tank is the centre exhibit. Get to see sharks, jelly fish, penguins n other types of marine life close up in a clean environment. I was more intrigued by the efforts of the in-house divers scraping n brushing the penguin poop off the rock surfaces! The Penguin cafe provides refreshments for the tired visitors. Though not a big aquarium, it is worth your time to come over n spend an hour here.

The layout is beautiful. The shark tank was my favorite. Some of the exhibit were pretty small, like the baby sea turtles. It was very dark but that worked for the jelly fish display. There was a large section just for goldfish, which had art and light tumble.

I will give it 3.5 stars. The aquarium is nice, but I would say it is a bit small and the price 2,050 yen is a bit too much for what you get. If you have a choice, go to the one in Sunshine city in Ikebukuro.

Nice city Aquarium; with the main attractions being jellyfish, penguins, and a large two story tank. Like most things in Japan, the exhibits are small, but what is there is done nicely with great detail. They have a salt water system which helps limit the carbon foot print of their facility (rather than trucking salt water inlandthat I thought was neat. The exhibits are all very clean as well and are setup to give some great photos.. my daughter loved being so close, and Id recommend the season pass if youre kids are big into fish as its very reasonable (even if youre only in the area for a week)

One of smaller aquarium that I have visited. Fair amount of aquatic fishes, perhaps only highlight is the Penguin closure. You get up close with the Penguins.

You can see all the species from very up close. But because of its fairly small size, youll have seen everything within one hour or less. Worth every minute though.The penguin cafe is a nice touch and offers themed snacks and drinks.

Small, very well maintained Aquarium. Tanks were impeccably clear and the composition of plants and fish was incredible.

Its not a big place and you are not going to experience all the sea creatures; nonetheless, in a cozy place to look at some lovely organisms.It starts with casual aquarium and Jelly fish and ends with Big White Shark! I loved mostly the surrounding of penguin.Its a recommended place to visit in Tokyo, just beside the famous Tokyo Sky Tree.

It was really nice, clean and informative. The aquarium is beautiful and there were so many different fish. They have a nice little gift shop and a coin press perfect for the take home souvenir. I didnt take many pics on my phone but I had so much fun.

Id describe this aquarium as an artwork. The designs of the tanks are unusual and beautiful.This aquarium is relatively small so I can imagine it gets massively packed on weekends and public holidays. I went on a friday morning and, apart from a few visitors, it was mostly quiet.The highlights for me were the tanks at the beginning of the aquarium, which were beautifully designed and almost looked like miniature landscapes. I also loved the penguins. They seemed very happy in their enclosure, which is a rarity in zoos.The downside for me was the price, which is quite high compared to other attractions in Tokyo. Not to mention very little information is given in the aquarium itself, unless you ask staff. Its very minimalistic.

Great place to spend an hour or two, but certainly not value for money compared to other attractions around Japan.Can get very busy and really loud.

I loved this place. I visited this place for the first time. You can see penguins!!! Omg i wanted to touch one so bad but they dont let you. Anyway, really good date spot. Cozy and warm.

Wonderfully set up. Super crowded and surprisingly small. Perhaps I expected a lot more but it was still very beautiful and they have a wide variety of fish. It was the jellyfish exhibit when I went. Overall a great time if not a little pricey for what ended up being about an hour or two of exploring two floors of aquariums. Pun cards were funny!

Its just a small aquarium the main attractions being the penguin and the jelly fish. The penguins can be viewed from just about every angle. We went kate in the afternoon and it was not busy

Very nice Aquarium. About $20 dollar admission. Two floors. Majority of sea life is Japan natives, especially those from Pacific ocean. Even have a lab that helps with sea life reproduction.

Fantastic aquarium. Can be closed on Wednesdays. First exhibits are some of Aqua Design Amanos, they are huge and beautiful. There is also a very respectible larger display tank, a garden eel tank that is fun to watch for squabbles and arguments between the individual eels, and a great penguin tank and exhibit with three different species all swimming together. If you get in during feeding they are funny to watch. Favorite aquarium so far in Tokyo.

Its a pretty big aquarium and there were lotsa penguins. Thr staffs were friendly and helpful as well. Ill definitely visit this again. Dont miss the penguin show! Its really calming.

Family friendly place and the kids would absolutely love it! We were there to watch the penguin feeding session and enjoyed the experience. The aquarium covers a huge area so theres plenty to see and lots of space for the kids to wonder around safely. Because its a popular place, youd want to buy your tickets in advance to beat the huge queue waiting to buy their tickets at the gate.

One of the best Aquariums I’ve ever been. Definitely recommend to visit if you’re around Tokyo Sky Tree.It’s very petite, but neat and exciting. Very beautifully designed. Great lightning and soundscape.I’ve been lucky to get there on a Goldfish season, very cute! Also the penguins seem happy and comfortable, there’s no smell and the water seems very clean.The hotdog and Ice Cream at the cafe were delicious. Cool souvenir shop as well.Thank you for a such great experience!

The place is really nice, close to the skytree. The infrastructure are very new, well maintained, super clean and with a really nice design. I like the visit, it takes around an hour to see everything. Its not crowded, which is a nice thing in Tokyo ^^. There is a big place with a lot of penguin, they are very funny ^^ I just think that 2000yen per adult is a bit expensive, 1500would have been more appropriate. But else its a super nice place for family or couples ;)

This aquarium doesnt have a huge amount, but what it does have is done very well - must be the cleanest aquarium Ive every been in, every tank looks brand new and the water and glass is so clear (even in the penguin tank!).Everything looked well kept and healthy, penguins had a good sized tank to play about in. I did think the seals didnt have much space though.All in all worth a visit when combined with the SkyTree next door.

This is an awesome little aquarium! At the door it seemed expensive but the quality inside was fantastic! They provide maps in a variety of languages including English. My two friends and I had a wonderful time watching all the jellyfish, eels, penguins and other aquatic life. I could stay in the Jellyfish Kaleidoscope Tunnel for hours! If youre local Id recommend an annual membership so you can enjoy it again and again!

This place was great! The aquaecapes are un real. Photos just don’t do it justice. The visuals for the evolution of goldfish types was very interesting. Such a fun experience.

It is a very small aquarium.The visit will not take more than 2 hours (if you dont have a kid).The main attractions are the Penguins and the main Aquarium with a shark and a manta.There are some beautiful jellyfish

Medium sized, but with some very good displays and marine life. Excellent area for penguins and seals. You probably wont stay very long, unless you have food from the Cafe as well, so maybe not worth the 2000 yen entrance for some people
