Sully Creek State Park - Park and Garden in Williston, United States
When we were out in June they had a lot of rain so corrals were ankle deep muck for the horses. Not good drainage for the corrals.
Beautiful place to camp but the park ranger is a liar when we confronted him and the people in charge of the reservations on why we got charged for an extra night. Being very rude from the point we showed up down there. Fall of 2022
Very peaceful and picturesque. Wifi almost non existent and no cell coverage. Nice trails for hiking and close to Theodore Roosevelt National park.
One of the best campground experiences we’ve had. The location is beautiful. The campsites are spacious and well apportioned. The bathrooms and showers were clean. But far and away the best part of the experience was Kevin, our state park ranger. He was helpful, friendly, and when we had a few hiccups in our reservations, he could not have been more accommodating. We will definitely go back and recommend it without hesitation
Didnt stay here but will next trip. Large caming areas. Still close to town.
Very nice. A few too many flies. 🤪😄
Nice campground with pens for animals. Only one trail for riding. It is a shared trail system. Bikes too! The bikes we encountered 50 % were good and the other 50% were rude and not compliant with trail yielding the right of way to equine. Will not return. To much money for vehicle pass, camping and horse pass with only 1 trail.
State Park Ranger was very helpful. Im sure park was as nice as we stayed at Roosevelt NP
Nice staff, clean toilets and showers. Fabulous scenery. Trail head for hikes, bikes and horses. On the Little Missouri river. Sites with power, sites for horses, sites for tents, dump station, potable water. Nice base to visit Medora, badlands, TR Nat park, etc.
Came in during a rainstorm so we can say it can be muddy, but the entire campground seems level and safe to travel. The ceder loop is the non electric sites and it is tucked back in a bunch of trees along the creek. We reserved online but had to pay the additional $7 day use fee, but the rangers were able to charge it to our account. The showers are in the electric area with several vault potties on site. There seemed to be some great horse friendly options as as non-horse people, we couldnt speak to the details. It did make for a great overnight stop on our way down the road. Quiet and not too far off the interstate but far enough that we couldnt hear any traffic. Rangers were kind and the site was good for layover.
Nice campground with lots of space. Some electric sites. Some corrals for your horses too (well maintained and well equipped - non expert opinion). Brand new showers, clean. Nice people at the office. I would go back if the occasion presents itself. Not much privacy. Most sites have not much shade. Some not at all. Still, Recommended.
It is a great quiet place.
Went on the sully creek trail (hikedget to the top and u can see the Bully Pulpitt golf course
Awesome place to stay! Pull thru sites and new showers.
Very well set up horse camp plus RV parking
Great park. Stayed in tent spot 16 by creek in the trees. Showers were great and free if paying for camping spot. 7$ to enter and 22$ for camp spot in Cedar campground. Nice trail at entrance that takes you up to see valley. Well worth the miles hike up. Free wifi at entrance.
Today we were harassed by the ranger for driving through and looking for a future camping site. We weren’t out of our vehicle or stopped. I informed him what we were doing. He told us it’s a $7 fee. We won’t be camping here in the future
Its beautiful there. Bring a generator though. Other than that, love it. Quiet and peaceful at night as long as your neighbor isnt running their generator all night
Very primitive campground. Make sure your prepared for any needs before traveling gravel, bumpy long entrance road.
Nice campsite with showers. Easy access to the Ma Da Hey trail from the Sully Creek campsite. Also, great if you want to take your dogs on a trail in the bad lands since theyre not allowed in the national park. Be aware there are several water crossings along the trail so be prepared to get wet or bring water shoes! We saw a snake (non venomouson the trail last week so keep an eye for that as well.
Most expensive shower I have taken, the caretaker was intent on charging $12. $7 Park Entrance Fee, and another $5 to use the shower. Shower facility is in good condition and is included if you are camping. The park looks oriented exclusively for horse riding.
This is a great campground to bring your whole family dog pets and horses too if you have them. It boasts three sections where you can camp by tent only, RV only, or RV and horses. Its located right buy some boots as well as little misery also nicknamed little muddy. It has clean vault bathrooms, and a shower house. The spaces are pretty level, very spacious, and well spaced out. This is a nice place to camp as an alternative to the Theodore Roosevelt national Park campground options. It also provides electrical hook-up, they have water spigots from where you can fill up, and they have a dump station for your black and grey water. I highly recommend this place if youre visiting medora or Theodore Roosevelt national Park.
A few miles of unpaved road, pretty dry ( summer 2021), very even grounds, great showers and water available to fill up trailer. Close to Medora and TRNP. Nicely located by bike trail.
Horse camping is amazing here. Nice corrals amd access to the beautiful Mah Dah Hey trail. They even have a round pen to work your horse or let him roll after a long ride. Bring a hose if you need it, they provide wheelbarrows and pitch forks.
Very nice, and the camp hosts were super informative. Was just a bit dry. Even the rain didnt last. Highly recommend the park. And the bathrooms were cleaned daily. Thanks.
Inexpensive camping close to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park South Unit. My brother and I were happy with our two sites, 17 and 18, for their privacy. Many of the campsites are small and close together, although most have vegetation in between. The two sites we had gave us an incredible view of the bluffs, and there was great sunset viewing a few steps away over the horse campground. There is water at the entrance to the Cedar campground (and other places throughout the campgrounds area), but the outhouses are a few minutes walk away. Not a problem, just a comment. The shower house looked new, and was a wonderful surprise - each shower was in its own little space, with a bench and a sink. All clean! We only used this park for camping so we could be close to the National Park, so I have no thoughts about hiking, the creek, or anything else. What we saw though, was quite satisfactory!
Very nice state park with really good camping setup and every angle around is just another spectacular view. Great stop, the showers cost money tho, so be prepared for that
Great park and campground. Campsites are spaced out. Bathrooms are clean. Very peaceful. Kids really enjoyed the river.
Just ok. Large area for horses, so for some thats probably perfect. Campsites can be a little close together, and didnt see great access to the river there, at least from our area. They did have a dumpster for trash and an RV dump station, which was helpful for us.
Seen open camping spaces everywhere but was told they had nothing available. Went to coal creek campground. It was isolated only seen 1 other camper. Had great time there. Though Cayotes come right up to our tent during the night.
With Teddy Roosevelt National Park camping closed, we scored a week at nearby Sully Creek. If you’re good with dry camping and have solar panels, this park is amazing. Tube in the Little Missouri River, hike the Maah Daah Hey Trail, shop and dine in Medora, visit the South side of TRNP. Bring your horses if you have them. Loved it!
Three different areas to camp one for horses only. Need to book a reservation ahead no drive in service. Easy access to the Mah da Hay trailhead with parking for day use as well. Two miles outside of Medora.
This is a beautiful place to visit, very peaceful. I definitely need to return and spend a whole day there
Very nice campground in the Badlands. Restrooms could use some upgrading but the tent sites themselves werent bad and the showers were an added plus at $1 for 8 minutes.
Nice place to go. Beautiful backdrops of the badlands. Wasnt as peaceful this time though due to all the generators running ALL night long. Also, some random lady walking her dog THROUGH our campsite every 2 hours. Dont believe that she needed to use the restroom THAT many times a day, and with a smirk on her face every time??
The tent loop does not have its own bathroom, so its a loooonng way to the bathrooms. The bathroom at the front looks nice on the outside (for pit toiletsbut inside is another story. The ammonia smell is unbearable, they ran out of toilet paper in the middle of the day too. We didnt know there would be so many horses so close to the tent loop either, they are not quiet. After paying the booking fee online and the daily state pass fee, on top of the site fee, it is pretty expensive for a state park lacking amenities and views.
Cedar Campground #18, private back-in site, nice view, large enough for 8 person tent and 10x10 canopy, surrounded by trees on two sides. Horse corral nearby so expect to hear them if the equestrian sites are busy. Easy check-in, no-pump water spigot, clean vault toilets, amazing night skies and morning fog. Pay showers with change machine available but didnt use. No firewood for sale. Easy access to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Medora.
Nice, quiet stop in the Badlands. Easy to get to, wide open sites, a dump station, and clean showers. Trailhead leading from camp appears to go all the way through the Badlands. Would definitely stop here again on our way through.
A beautiful park. No hookups, pit toilets and showers were inconvenient located. Many sites in the front loop dont have any shade. There are 3 camping areas pick carefully.
Beautiful camping right along the Maah Dah Hey Trail. No electricity, but showers and restrooms on site. The corrals are good. They have available to purchase certified weed free hay. Cant wait for the next visit!
Great park with one of the best trails for hiking and biking!
We stay here every year for a whole week. Nice new shower facility. AMAZING view and easily accessible camp sites. Highly recommend for familys with horses or other animals.
Very beautiful location. I couldnt believe we were that close to Medora and TRNP! The bathrooms did need some attention over the weekend, but all in all a pleasant experience. Some campgrounds are in an open area and some are in the trees, so pay attention when reserving your site. You do need to use quarters if you want to shower, so remember to bring some
This park was a great place to get some sleep as we were on a long road trip. Sites are reasonably priced and we had no problem getting the site we wanted. Some of the sites are in an open grassy field. Not sure why anyone would want a site like that so Id be sure that you know what site youre reserving. The bathrooms were clean and I like that they have showers available too.
Really nice campground. Very helpful to our group. The sites could be marked better and the vault toilets needed some attention the couple of days that we were there but a clean place overall and a beautiful place to camp.
Excellent staff. Frank Turner and Kieley you went above and beyond and were so accommodating. Clean campgrounds, nice stalls. Trails marked so well it is hard to get lost. A place I would visit again!
They have no electricity. You have to have certified hay. park pass per vehicle. Pay per site, per person, and per horse. You can only ride the mah dah hay. You cant ride on bar X Ranch land if you stay at Sully creek. Roger the last camp host was awesome!
Hardly any bathrooms and the biffy is very far from campsites. ??? I cant understand why there are hot showers, but no bathrooms here. If there are more bathrooms, they are hidden, because I asked another camper and he was also unable to find any other bathroom. Teddy Roosevelts camping is better, but they were full.
We found this hidden gem online and made our reservation the same way. Its conveniently located just a couple miles south of Medora and tucked away in a quiet valley very close to the Little Missouri River and has access to the Maah Daah Hey Trail. The $12 camp ground fee and $5 one-day SP entrance fee (and, $4 online reservation feewere very reasonable for the pleasant accomodations and amenities. During our two-night stay, we had two different wooded camp sites. Each site has a fire pit, picnic table and plenty of room for a large tent or pop-up. Other sites were in the grassy clearing to accomodate large RVs. Amenities include: 6 pay showers ($1 for 8 minutes of lovely, hot waterwith hot water at the sinks, too, latrines, 2 water spickets with refreshing potable water (we filled water bottles every day and enjoyed the cool, crisp water), and even horse corrals for campers pulling horse trailers (not us). After arriving and discovering that there was always plenty of room and some available sites, we decided our next stay at Sully, we wouldnt need to reserve online (and pay the extra fee).
We have camped several times at the Sully Creek State Recreation Horse Campground and absolutely love it. Roger Clemens who is the caretaker, was always very helpful, and fun to visit with. The trails are easy enough that even our 4 and 5 year old grandsons could ride their mini ponies along with us. Of the four days we stayed at Sully Creek Campground this past labor Day we were able to ride in a different direction each day crossing the Little Missouri River several times and riding in the Badlands as well,
