Straffan Butterfly Farm in Leixlip

We went there in aug 2017. Has been closed for 2 years

Lovely day out with the kids. The butterflies are beautiful and Ive never seen so many varieties.

Had a fantastic time at the Straffan Butterfly Farm today. Our 4-year old daughter loved watching the butterflies, moths, spiders and other crawlies. This is a beautiful spot, with a marvelous little garden and very informative for all, grown-ups and kids. Highly recommended.

My family only decided to go to torture me : u cud say i have a major fear or phobia of butterflies.They convinced me to go into the like butterfly shed thing. Until i walkd in d door nd a GIANT butterfly comes and flaps around me wit lots of smaller ones. I panicked screamed nd started running in circles knocking things down like pots and then i bumped into people nd i possibly started crying but i think it was the steam. Anyway off the point but all i say is BEWARE GIANT BUTTERFLIES!!

Lovely place and a very educational experience. It is true that the butterfly house is small, but this is a family farmhouse/exhibition - by no means natural history museum.The hosts are very friendly and happy to answer all the questions. We saw plenty of live butterflies, caterpillars and butterfly eggs. The butterflies are flying around, a few of them landed on my t-shirt and stayed there for a while. Great variety of butterflies, too.I wasnt crazy about creepy-crawlers but was allowed to hold a gecko for a few minutes and I liked it (normally I would run away). The iguana was very interesting and lively too.Im not sure about value for money aspect though - some reviewers made comments about entry fee being expensive. I reckon if its OK to give a fiver for a pint, its definitely OK to give 8 euro per adult for a ticket to a place like this.
