Story in Mali
Description
Privilege
Took my partner here for a suprise birthday dinner, on the table there was a birthday card with my partners name on it which was a nice personal touch.we went for the 10 course tasting menu, everything was very tasty! it is exspensive but your paying for top ingredients and the service was top notch each course had a story behind it, told by the waiters without them being too in your face all the time. The restaurant had a good ambience, the lighting was just right and the service was spot on.We had plenty of time to get through the courses and there were a few surprises. At the end of the meal we received the menu of the foodd we ate which was nice was to end the meal.Great service, amazing food. Well worth a visit.
MoreI have complex feelings about this restaurant. The food was very nice and the staff were nice. It is not cheap, but that’s expected with London fine dining. However, it is meant to be a high end experience and I have two serious issues:(1It was a couple of days before (which I appreciate is short noticebut I needed to delay because the person I was bringing was ill. I wanted to push the reservation back - we were definitely going to come - and they wouldn’t let me. I don’t get it because these things happen and I’ve never had an issue before. I know restaurants need revenue, it just felt a bit pathetic when we were about to spend £1k on lunch. I ended up being forced to bring someone or lose hundreds of pounds and it takes the shine off when you come with a gun to your head.(2There was some sort of data breach at the restaurant whereby fraudsters got my (and other people’scontact details. I now get called regularly with scams. Both of these things have tainted the experience for me.
MoreThis was a great meal, the music makes you feel relaxed and in home. The food was delicious and loved the fact that there is a story behind each plate.
MoreSensational dinner in terms of food quality, presentation, ambiance, professional and friendly service. Not cheap but despite the cost we were left somewhat overwhelmed by the experience of the total package on offer. Will we return!? For sure, although might be best to wait for a menu change in order to savour more different tasty delights. Overall, above expectations.
MoreIt is certainly an experience! Beautifully presented food which is very well cooked. The service is excellent. 10 courses prepared depending on your likes and dislikes with our without a wine pairing. All excellent apart maybe from the snacks starters which although very pretty seemed a little underseasoned
MoreAs you would expect from a 2 Michelle star resturant, the food was amazing but the service is what elevated it from being a great lunch to an experience. We went for the tasting menu with drinks, for which you dont get a menu before your meal, but you do get one when you leave along with a pot of honey which was a lovely touch.Everyone who served us during our meal were attentive, relaxed and very efficient so the time spent at Story flew by.If you like fine dining would highly recommend a visit.
MoreSpectacular. No really … spectacular! Amazing service, incredible food, exceptional story. If you are near here you should go. If you’re not, make the effort. These guys (especially Paula?were awesome. 👌
MoreFaultless start to finish! I could wax lyrical about the food, presentation, the staff, the tableware, the space, the creativity, the soundtrack, the theatrics, the drink selection, the service … and on and on. It would be hard to know where to stop. This is truly food as an art form, poetic gastronomy. Star number 3 can’t be far off… amazing experience. We would highly recommend this place. It may appear expensive but in this case you truly get what you pay for.
MoreStory is a fantastic restaurant. Customers looking for a good meal worth its price will enjoy. And also customers looking for a unique surprise will also be fulfilled there. Dishes served are mostly unlike any other, and frequent enjoyers of fine dining will not be disappointed by the lack of originality that
MoreWe lunched here with friends a week ago. The food seems to have gone up a notch since our last visit. Excellent fine dining and definitely worth its two stars. With wine and service, we paid £250 per head, pricey but pretty much the going rate for this sort of experience.
MoreI was looking for somewhere special to take my husband for his 30th and Story came recommended from a friend. I rang up and was given a booking straight away (none available online). It was our first 2-Michelin-star restaurant (so adjust price expectations based on that), and it did not for one minute disappoint. Everything was delicately balanced and cooked to absolute perfection. As an ex-chef (not Michelin!I have to say the kitchen was the quietest Ive ever seen! The chefs were like an army. We took the classic drinks pairing - absolutely no regrets, just fantastic, and I loved the inclusion of a couple of cocktails as well. The wine was paired so closely to the taste of the food, the difference was barely discernible. And we were treated like absolute kings! As the restaurant is small, the staff work in a clockwise manner and we were in the middle, so after a few drinks this did make us a bit dizzy but absolutely no complaints! Do not think twice about dining here. Thank you!
MoreThis was our first time at Story. Incredible food!! Highly recommended.Location:It is a very classy and elegant place. We were seated along glass wall, view from where is amazing.Food:The menu is handed to you at the end of the meal, which is perfect as each dish is then a surprise with a back story. Highlights for me were, Custard with a twist of pumpkin seeds and excellent oscietra sturgeon caviar, Scallops, Parker house roll and Rhubarb & Custard. Look out for “Storeos” (oneof the snacks), you will fall in love with Story right then and there!Service:Staff is very courteous, knowledgeable and friendly. Though a visit by Chef Sellers to our table would have been splendid. Hopefully next time!Wine Pairing:I recommend going for a classic option which is a combination of cocktails and wines. This is by far the best pairing I have experienced to date! Drinks are carefully selected to match each dish. And they complement the food amazingly well. My favourite was Pedrino Pedro Ximénez Sherry.
MoreIt’s VERY expensive for what they serve. One of the courses was bread, which at other Michelin restaurants does not count as a full course on the tasting menu. The main course was a PIGEON with the feet included (disgustingsplit for two people - you can buy a full pigeon for £5 and here we were paying £175 per person. Two of the desserts were ice cream served in unsophisticated tableware. I’m used to trying Michelin Star restaurants all around Europe and this one was the most expensive I’ve been to, but also the most underwhelming.
MoreSecond lunch at Story. Phenomenal experience with some standout dishes. Snail porridge and the pigeon were highlights of the meal.
MoreWhat a great place… they went above and beyond with service and food. Can’t recommend this place more.Million times better than other 2 Michelin star restaurants in the city.
MoreMe and my boyfriend went to Story for our anniversary in the beginning of november. When we arrived we were greeted most graciously and guided to our table. We opted for the longer menu with the cocktail/wine pairing, including the white truffle optional dish. The food was very enjoyable and perfectly paired with the selection of drinks the sommelier had selected for us. The staff were very friendly and made us feel at home right away. The sommelier also explained very detailed the wines to us, a lovely evening, we will return. From us to the whole team a big thankyou and till next time.
MoreWhat can I say about this place - it’s an experience not a meal! Fantastic flavours and great presentation! The service at this restaurant is one of the best I have ever experienced - very knowledgable and friendly staff.Story completely “Wows” you, some of the dishes were too pretty to eat... we went for the wine pairing, simply superb!
MoreOne of the best Michelin restaurants on my list! Tried the 10 course menu and it was great, as well as the service. I would def recommend this restaurant if you love fine dinning.
MoreHad an amazing dinner here! The food was delicious and the service was friendly and fun.We got the 10course menu and the cocktail and wine drinks pairing. This definitely added to our lovely experience. All the dishes were delicious but my faves were the lobster bisque custard with caviar (don’t get the other cold caviar fruit salad choice, it does not compare to the custardall the snacks at the beginning, the oyster, the cod main, and the beef dripping candle with bread! I felt the desserts were not the strong point of the menu. And the wagyu crumpet was a little too much crumpet and not enough wagyu. But we were also given a nice jar of hand harvested raw honey to take home. Overall an exceptional experience and would definitely recommend!
MoreRestaurant Story was on my go-to places list when we planned our trip to London and we booked our table for 2 people for a Friday lunch. Reservation is a must and its not that easy to get a table for certain popular timeslots. It’s located in a corner of a park and is close to the signature landmark of London, Bridge Tower. The decor is classy and elegant with romantic ambiance & beautiful furniture. The staff was well-trained, friendly and served everything in etiquette. I was in my 7th month pregnancy and they were careful about my diet restrictions. We both had their 7-course tasting menu ($130and it was one of the best & price worthy dining experiences we have ever had. There was no menu presented, even online, since they would make adjustment based on ingredients available so every dish was a surprise for us.From amuse small bite, appetizer, bread, entree to dessert, we were satisfied with both the visual and sense of taste. The food was overall delicious, delicate and various with texture. Our favorites were “Candle “, which is bread with butter, and “Duck”, which is grilled duck breast & leg.We could feel how Tom Seller cares about what they serve and love the stories behind each dish, which was also the reason how they named the restaurant.
MoreStory’s was recommended to me by a friend, we tend to only dine around central and west London- but it was totally worth the trip! We also found a perfect parking spot right outside. The ambience was really relaxing, a perfect date night venue. The staff were wonderful and incredibly organised, we really enjoyed hearing about all of the little details for each dish and drink. Some of the highlights of the meal were definitely the grilled oyster, our first time trying oysters warm and wow it really was delicious. The custard, cauliflower caviar dish was beautiful. The candle that melted and that was edible was a really fun touch, so creative! We really enjoyed the homemade honeycomb and the little fudge candies wrapped in edible paper. It was my first time trying rabbit and a squab pigeon, all surprises on the menu that I wasn’t expecting! All in all it was definitely one of the best taster menus we’ve had, highly recommended!
MoreEverything was yummy especially the snacks and the beef dripping candle was such a novelty. So full afterwards!
MoreMeh. Wished I’d spent the mortgage payment of a bill somewhere else. Two dishes out of the ten were great (in the pics). The others were nothing special. The dining room lacks atmosphere - too quiet and a bit hush hush, like you’re worried everyone can hear your conversation. A lot of effort has gone into creating a beautiful setting and eye-catching dishes. They’re just missing oomph in the flavour department. The service was good, however. We went to Muse a few months ago and much preferred it.
MoreExcellent restaurant, one of the best in London. Food is tasty and flavourful and the interior design is modern and minimalistic. The stereo system in the restaurant is also amazing!
MoreBooked this for our post wedding meal, and it lived up to all expectations. Amazing service, greeted by friendly staff who were always around ensuring we had good time. Food was amazing, they are quick to change things if you arent a fan or do not eat. My wife doesnt eat red meat so they changed the dish without a problem. They gave us a sma wedding gift with small treats and dessertsx very classy touch. Menu when guy leave is a nice touch.
MoreWe have an amazing celebratory meal here. It was the most expensive meal I have ever had but worth every penny. The 9-course dinner menu is an adventure for your taste buds. We had the vegetarian and pescatarian dishes, I expect the meat version is incredible. If you have a special occasion, try Restaurant Story, it will be a memorable meal that you will talk about for years afterwards. I took a lot of pictures to write an article for my blog, I am sharing my pictures with you.
MoreOne of a kind culinary experience through the “story” of chef Tom Sellers and British food. Beautiful setting as well in an open restaurant with glass walls. Went for dinner and had the 9 course menu, favorite dish was the grilled langoustine which was so tender, crisp and perfectly matched with a black garlic dressing. Most interesting dish was an edible candle with the most delicious bread baked by the restaurant. We also did the cocktail pairing as it had interesting spirits such as sake but still a fair amount of wine (and was a bit cheaper too!- good balance of alcohol and food! Highly recommend for an special occasion.
MoreAbsolutely amazing food as the chef takes you through a journey. Very creative dishes using top quality ingredients served in a beautiful way. Must visit Michelin star restaurant!
MoreWhat can I say except "wow"? Incredible food that tells the story of Chef Toms life. Amazing drinks pairings that go beyond the usual wine match, and the wines that they do have are unusual and compliment the dishes perfectly. Service is warm, friendly and approachable without losing Michelin star efficiency and finesse. Amazing experience and I cant wait to be back!
MoreExcellent food, well executed and very focussed on the quality of the ingredients. Give yourself time for the meal. Wine pairing was also very interesting.
MoreCuisine selection: very creative, highly entertaining, and great lookingFood taste: more on the interesting side, but lacks the indulgent sensation. A mixed bag of nice, so-so and plain disastrousAtmosphere and setting: young and relatively relaxed, good sunset view but ruined by heavy traffic around it. Imagine stepping outside a posh restaurant and having vehicle exhaust right in your face...Value for money: Poor, even if you treat it as a whole evening out than just a meal.
MoreStory is one of my favourite fine dining restaurant in London. They way they present every single dish were all well thought. It showed on each dish the effort and attention to details the chef had put into. This is the first time I went to Story after their renovation. So the menu itself was different from the pre-renovation time. I missed some of the dishes I enjoyed in the past. Good that the chef kept a few dishes or main elements of the dishes unchanged. The highlight for me is the lamb dish which was cooked to perfection. Flavours of all the dishes worked and complemented all the main ingredients. Although the price of their tasting menu has increased, if you divided into 10 courses, it’s really not expensive at all. It’s always a special dining experience at Story and I look forward to my next visit soon.
MoreFor an upscale restaurant, the staff were really down to earth, friendly and definitely added to the overall dining experience. The food was incredible. One of the best meals we’ve ever had. Based on seasonal ingredients, the scallop dish on the tasting menu were some of the best prepared scallops we’ve tasted! Overall a great restaurant for a special occasion.
MoreQuite possibly the best meal Ive had in London. Its pricey and takes 4-5 hours, so if youre looking for a simple fast good meal, this is not the place for you. Food is inventive, fun and delicious. Hey a seat by the window, enjoy the view of the garden and watch people go by. Staff are friendly and attentive, and knowledgeable about how their food is from and prepared. Id suggest sharing the wine pairing, to bring down cost but also makes the 9-11 glasses of alcohol more manageable!
MoreWe took a day off for my wifes birthday and had lunch here. They dont offer a menu per se, but the choice of either a 5- or 8-course tasting experience. The premise is that the dishes would be personalised for the diner, like a Japanese omakase meal. The dishes were elaborate and tasty but not substantial. I felt it was a bit of a cheat to offer a sourdough bread roll with beef drippings, beef extract (posh Bovriland a celery conserve as a full course. Bread should be offered as an accompaniment rather than a full course, delicious as it is.We also had some heritage tomatoes prepped in a few different ways, each dish of this nature consumed with a single mouthful. Then there was also a scallop dish (sashimi, sliced so that one scallop was cut into halves or thirds), and the main was roasted and raised lamb. Ultimately the dishes were delicious but always left me feeling that there should have been more, thus I left the restaurant slightly less than satisfied and satiated. The highlight was a "Bloody Mary" cocktail I had at the start of the meal, which wasnt the normal thick red tomato juice based drink I was expecting: instead they prepared a clear (chicken soup colouredconsommé from heritage tomatoes, with vodka in a separate bottle for me to add to taste. This was very pleasant, tasted like a rich tomato juice, but visually resembled nothing of the sort!As Michelin starred restaurants go, this was slightly focused on the concept than on satisfying the diners hunger. Almost a little too gimmicky!
MoreWe were there with a group of us for a 50th which made it a perfect choice. Usually you go out for a meal and it’s over in an hour or so therefore the fact that it took 5 hours for us to get through the ‘tasting menu with wine paring’ was great! There were 13 dishes and 13 drinks (wine/cocktail/ciderto compliment each one.If this would bore you then not the right choice. Some of the dishes could have been slightly more exciting and a little larger (one was just about 4 tomatoes in balsamicothers were great (my favorite was the onion dish, the one meat dish @ the concept of bread & dripping with dripping candlesSee pics! The drinks alone was worth £65 and so for the whole experience I think it’s worth the £150. Staff were fantastic. I went outside for a cigarette and they even spotted me and came out to give me another alcoholic drink to cleanse my palette. How attentive is THAT! Not 5 stars only as some of the first dishes to be brought could have been better for the money.
MoreGreat experience at Story with inventive and beautiful dishes. The service was great as well. We really liked the « wine » pairing with a number of unusual combinations. We would definitely come again!
MoreThis one was a bit of a mixed bag for us. We came here for our anniversary and had the tasting menu with ‘wine pairing’. The pairing was not just wine but rather a mix of wines and cocktail concoctions to go with each course which was an interesting twist. The food was wonderfully presented and I loved the way the head chef takes you on a culinary journey of flavour pairings inspired by his childhood. Although I enjoyed most of the courses, not every dish had the wow factor you would expect in this price range. It almost felt as though there was a bit of style over substance with some of the dishes which was a real shame. The service was attentive as you would expect in a Michelin star restaurant BUT there was a major issue that irritated the hell out of me.The maitred was very pushy in trying to up-sell us to the “Premium Wine Pairing” to the point that he made us feel uncomfortable. This is uncouth and a faux pas in any high end restaurant. In summary, it was good but not as outstanding and perfect as you should expect in this price range. The policy of heavy handed up-selling needs to stop immediately as this literally killed the evening for me.
MoreFeels like a tourist trap. By far the worst food at a Michelin restaurant that I’ve ever eaten. The 4 hour dining couldn’t end any slower. I was dying to leave after 2 hours, but could not as I was at dinner with my beloved family. Our entire table was not impressed and we discussed what a bad choice this restaurant was. The food - a lot of dishes were tasteless, and once in a while when the taste was good, the size was so small (less than 1 inchper meal that you really couldn’t enjoy it. Michelin restaurants are known for small portions, but here these portions are cut in quarters. I like taking pictures of my fancy food, and here pictures came out fine. But this place was the biggest waste of time... and money too but most importantly time!!! 4 hours of not tasty food the size of a meal for my parrot —- I still say profanities every time I walk past this restaurant...
MoreNot worth it, would not recommend it - although the staff is really great and provide excellent service - I regret coming here and would discourage you from "giving it a try." As for food - its just okay. Theres absolutely nothing about the quality or taste of the food here that would justify the price they charge and their portion sizes - its really quite mediocre. Theres nothing to rave about and Im sure everyone who is giving this place good reviews simply dont want to acknowledge that theyve just wasted both money and time. You will be amazed by the extreme scarcity of mediocre food on your plate. If you are expecting your taste buds to get all excited from tasty food, then you should just look for another dining establishment. One of the "courses" is just a ball of plain simple mashed potato with a couple of drops of balsamic vinegar, yes really. Just look at the pictures and see for yourself if you want to pay for something that would leave you hungry and want to go to eat elsewhere shortly after leaving this boring Story. This will be long 4 hours of mediocre food pieces that wont satisfy you.
MoreGreat overall experience, food and service are immaculate and surely will get their second michelin star.FOH staff were precise, not to overwhelming, but there in the key moments of the meal, explaining and suggesting. Good cocktail list as well as their wine list.Food is creative and the flavors are very well put together, even when the combinations seem to be not very interesting, definitely a place to go back. The looks at all points of the restaurant look impeccable, entrance, outside the restaurant, kitchens and toilets.Only negative note, my booking was changed on the app I utilized and even if the restaurant wasn’t full, the person at the restaurant wasn’t very accommodating from the start point, this could have ruined my dining experience, since it’s the first impression of the place, apart from that note, loved everything about the meal and worth the recommendation.
MoreA bit of theatre is fun but not for what we paid at this Michelin star restaurant.I have to write a little more on this as there was nothing really bad about this place, service was first class, the maitre-d entertaining and the sommelier knowledgable however this is the only Michelin star restaurant where I walked out still hungry and wondering where our money went (~£700 / party 4).The food was good, sometimes only okay, definitely on the inhale and its gone side without the sparkle one would expect from such small portions, and out of all the Michelin star restaurants visited in 2016 possibly ranks as one of the most undeserving. Thats unfortunate as we liked the idea and had a good time.If you want a story and the drama, go visit. Would I go back after that? No, there are other more exciting culinary experiences for the money.
MoreA truly memorable and exceptional meal. Service was impeccable. Food was a visual and culinary delight. Highly recommend. A Michelin restaurant to remember.
MoreReally enjoyed this place, the more churlish among us may describe it as gimmicky, but I loved it.Menu is thoughtful, creative and delicious. Everything is well presented and the unhurried, relaxed pace means you can sit back and enjoy your wine. Expensive, but at this quality its worth it.
MoreThis is the first food tasting restaurant we have been to in London. We are massive foodies and have been opportune to eat in some pretty fab places. However what made story a truly unique experience was the pairing of the dishes. Most food tasting menus gets accompanied by a selection of wines usually local, at story this was not the case. The food was paired with drinks that were crafted using elements of the dish. I mean talk about ingenious! The sommelier knows exactly what he is doing! The second other thing that stood out was how you are addressed as a guest as opposed to customer. To many that might seem irrelevant but its the little things no? The restaurant itself is located smack in the middle of tooley street, the decor is very welcoming.. the staff? Fantastic. Sense of humour (check), hospitality (check), knowledge (checkand this was across the whole team like even though the dishes were brought by different people at any given point in time, it was served with the same level of service. Like I said fantastic! Now to the food (sighglorious food.. You start of with snacks.. the storeo delightful. You must taste the Orange wine if offered.. yes people Orange is the new red wine.. You get cider that looks like a bubbly procecco! The lard that accompanies your bread is a burning one.. everything that came out of the chefs kitchen was just a wonderful surprise! Even the sweets were epic.. You could eat this whole with the wrapper! Yes! With the wrapper.. In sum, if you ever want a dinning experience thats unique ... You need to go get your story at restaurant story.. thank you to the team for making our story truly special.... #localguide #ongooglemap
MoreFood wasnt the best weve EVER had but the fantastic and really "locally" sourced alcohol pairing made it a five star experience. I personally LOVED the mash dish and the butter candle (from the vegetarian tasting menu). Great for a special occasion as they added personal touches!
MoreAn unforgettable experience. The food was creative and imaginative. The presentation was thoughtful and service felt very catered and personal. The drink pairings are well worth the extra money. Even at the high price, this meal felt like a great value!
MoreThe setting was underwhelming and the drink pairing even more so- not the quality that you would expect from a restaurant with a Michelin star. The menu is good and the presentation is nice, but again weve had better and the drinks were a joke.
MoreWow. This was one of the best places I have ever been to in my life. I really do not know where to start, the service was amazing they were attentive and friendly. The food was very delicious, innovative and fun. The little touches that they put on the table was great as it was my 10th anniversary. It was very clean and comfortable and we dont all Rush the short story took about two and a half hours to complete so if you decide to go for lunch make sure youve got plenty of time. It was a very great experience I will never look at almond and dill in the same way again. Highly recommended and deserving of its Michelin star status.
MoreThe food was very well executed and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We had a very interesting tasting menu with paired drinks which included beer, wine, desert wine and a mellow lower alcohol rum shot. Of you are having this as your lunch expect to take your time. Its not a quick affair, but that suited us as we had the afternoon to enjoy it.I would definitely recommend it.
