Lovely place full of history and information about Stockport and the local area, right through from prehistoric times to present day. Went with my 3 daughters aged 6, 4 and 2. Enough fun to keep youngsters occupied while elders can dive into the educational stuff.

A great little museum, beautifully laid out and very clean and tidy. Some activities for children. Going to visit again without the small person to look in more detail.

Interesting information about Stockport, the premises are small and exhibitions across multiple floors. There is a lift for the less mobile. In proximity of Stockport Museum/Staircase House there are eateries and other places for refreshments.

I thoroughly enjoyed this museum. Having the good fortune of catching the Strawberry Studios exhibition last year, its great to see its now permanent. Its ideally placed in the town centre. You can see the love thats gone into the newer displays. Looking forward to coming back soon!

I was taken back by how good it was for the cost. And how clean it was and how helpful everyone was.. It was their for about one two hours there at the staircase museum. It be a shame if there was any cut backs. Local people should just go for a 5 pounds it great to go..

Only deserves a middling mark. Low on content and not a lot really about Stockport. A new exhibit on Strawberry studios is very good so does redeem things a little. A strange thing is that as you leave, you pass a wall linking to Staircase House next door, which is well worth a visit. I think there should at least have been some information about the wall and how it fits in with Staircase House. I would expect it would then draw more visitors to that building.

Today we came to stockport museum...story museum, we asked if there was anywhere we could sit anywhere for a picnic, and we got told yes near the reception area, as we sat eating nicely being quiet, the manager of the building.... gaynor Burgess, actually asked us to stop feeding children and leave the area. We then got told we need to make a donation, wich we already had!!! , then told us people were leaving die to the noise on the forth foor, we was on the 2nd floor and no where near floor 4!!! Its a shame stockport childminders cant use stockport council attractions etc and were made to feel very unwelcome from her and our children penalised!!! This is a disgrace and we were left feeling very embarrassed and upset. This isnt a good advert and we wont be going back.

Having visited Staircase House, my family and I were not actually aware the museum was next door and went on the recommendation of a member of staff, who was really friendly and helpful. I’m so glad we went as it was a fantastic journey through Stockport’s history, with lots of interactive things to do, from listening to music of the bands who recorded at Strawberry Studios, to watching a film about a hundred years of Stockport history, and seeing the original LS Lowry paintings of Stockport. Such a wonderful experience learning so much about my home town that I didn’t even realise I didn’t know.

This museum is free and is a good way to spend half an hour. There is a childrens bit upstairs with interactive stuff like a shadow puppet wall, so if you had small children you could drag it out longer. Its wheelchair accessible and there are toilets.

We drove out here for the Strawberry Studios display. What a lovely little place, we ended up looking around all of the floors, there are some very interesting items on display and we enjoyed looking around the other floors aswell as the strawberry items. The staff we met were so helpful and friendly. A real family friendly museum with the top floor a creative activity family floor-such a good idea. We also has a drink and bite to eat in the cafe attached, again very pleasant. Overall a lovely little place to visit!

Its free! And its great for young kids. There are 4 floors, with each floor with its own exhibition. The bacemet changes every few months but at the moment its a strawberry studios exhibit. (2017 Dec)The rest has lots of history about Stockport with lots activities for the kits to do in each room. Its actually quite interesting! Lots of photos of how Stockport looked back in the day. Even an 1950 kitchen! Even had a hot point in it. Lol

Nobody except us was visiting the museum on a Saturday afternoon. Great staff! The place is small, but packed with interested objects. We stayed most of the time in the family area, with plenty of books and jigsaws to keep my 11 and 4 year olds busy.
