Subterranean cafe with copper-top bar serving innovative cuisine, plus cocktails, wine & beer.
Fantastic service every time. Delicious seasonal food and drink selections will keep Stewarts on your regular list. Lovely ambiance.
A small neighborhood restaurant that really glows. (Reservations are highly recommend due to the sizeVery warm and inviting, with lovely service. Really cozy, New York kind of atmosphere. The food was classy, hearty, and delicious. The buffalo brussel sprouts were delicious, and Im usually not much of a fan of brussel sprouts. The picanha steak was phenomenal. The ricotta pound cake dessert was on point too!
The four of us had four great meals in St. Paul.
Stewarts is a small restaurant located under a housing complex. Awesome food, for brunch and dinner. There is not a ton of space, Id recommend calling first and making a reservation.
We love coming here every time we are at UST. They have a good selection of hand-crafted cocktails and the Korean Fries are delicious! Its a lovely intimate place.
Quiet, college campus (University of St Thomasneighborhood location. Everything that we ordered was well prepared and tasty. The walleye fish platter was delicious!!
Adorable little restaurant with incredible kitchen-made food! The house roles were the perfect texture, and the walleye was so crispy. Small space, would recommend a reservation on weekends.
Great food, great service, and a cozy atmosphere. The menu is full of unique spins on classics. Everything we had was yummy.
Excellent spot! Great drinks and some interesting fare. We split a strawberry salad, kimchee tostada, and the cheeseburger. All were great! Nice ambiance and friendly service. Will be back!
What a surprise this was!! My sisters and I were visiting from out of town and thought we would try Stewart’s based on the reviews. So happy we did! It’s a cozy ambiance, kooky and cozy. Amazing food — try the Brussels sprouts. There’s a secret to their amazingness but you’ll have to see for yourself. Oh and the cherry on the lemon-lavender shortcake with a heaping scoop of lemon mousse on the side was our waiter, Mark B Castle. He made our night with his excellent service, humor and candidness. He was such a joyful soul!! I highly recommend this restaurant for a relaxing night out.
Sometimes when you go out to a restaurant you go because you just want food. Going to Stewart’s was an experience. Warmth upon walking in with amazing service and exceptional food. Marc guided us through this culinary experience that we did not want... but needed.
The rumors that you hear are true. This burger is FANTASTIC. It is beefy, cheesy, saucy, and everything you want when you order a burger.
Best takeout Ive had in the Twin Cities. Flawless curbside- food was ready right on schedule, minimal contact with a masked employee. We had the brussels sprouts as a starter, which were to die for-very savory and the hint of diced radishes was uplifting and not overwhelming. We split the cheeseburger and the fried chicken sandwich with regular and Korean fries, which we popped under the broiler for a few minutes when we got home. The chicken was crispy, moist, and flavorful- Ive been on a quest for a good fried chicken sandwich that holds up to travel for months, and my quest is finally over. The fries were exactly what I wanted, and the dipping sauces that came with were delightful. The burger was one of the better burgers Ive had in a while, pink center, moist patty, very satisfying. This is my new go-to place for comfort food.
The food is always, always, top notch. Please get take out from them! I cant wait to go back to dining inside. They have a cozy awesome ambience that keeps me coming back.
Just split a smattering of their falafel burger, kimchi, buffalo Brussels sprouts, and stone fruit salad... sooo good. Also had both of their slushy drinks while we waited which were very tasty, definitely not short on booze. Their staff was super friendly too. Will be back soon!
This is the best restaurant in the Twin Cities. My wife and I have been big fans for a few years and we wanted to celebrate our wedding anniversary here, but Covid made that seem unlikely. When we thought wed be stuck at home celebrating on the couch, Stewarts pulled out all the stops for us. We were able to celebrate our occasion at a beautiful, private, socially distanced outdoor table. The service was, as always, perfect. The food was delicious -- easily the best falafel Ive had in years. Stewarts has given us some of our favorite memories over the years, and were so so grateful that they let us continue that tradition. If I could only recommend one restaurant, not just in the cities but in general, it would always be Stewarts. THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH!
A cozy little place with great food and great service. I would highly recommend getting the buffalo brussel sprouts. I also got the southwest chicken breast. This is an ideal spot for a date night.
The best honey bread rolls I’ve been had! It’s a bit expensive, but the owner is wonderful and I will definitely go here again. There could be a greater variety of options for dishes. Try getting the burgers they were amazing. Great aesthetic for a cute date night.
Sandwiches are so delicious!! I have ordered a variety of dishes from here, but the patty melt is my go-to order (usually with a side of Korean fries). This sandwich is amazing...topped with a generous amount of caramelized onions and gooey cheese. The rye bread balances out the fillings perfectly. Stewarts also has interesting non-alcoholic beverages on offer, including fresh honey lemonade or a seasonal fruit shrub.
I have only been here once, so take this with a grain of salt!I had a reservation for 7pm and arrived to find out the hostess thought the reservation was for 5pm. There isnt a place to rest for larger groups if they must wait with bated breath to see if there is a table in the future.Food tasted fine. There are few options available, so please check the menu to see if you and yours like their food! My meal was...small in portion. If you get their classic American fare (I.e. burgers, grilled cheese), you will be full!Price was... Unfortunate for what I got personally. Proceed with caution if you order a dish that is not stereotypically western style. The finale: One of my party members was asked if she wanted a box. When she said no, the host took the plate before she could eat the last few bites. A miscommunication, sadly. The bill, the payment process, and the return of the methods of payment took an uncomfortable amount of time to arrive. I dont think it was malicious at all; I just hope this doesnt happen on your trip if youre in a big group with time constraints!
It’s difficult to place what kind of food Stewart’s is because there’s quite a variety. Some Asian, traditional American, and some Jamaican. Small little place under an apartment building, but super cute. The waitstaff was quick and polite. All the food was fresh and delicious. Personal favorite was the cauliflower gratin.
The food is overall standard. I didnt dislike anything that I had, but I also wasnt wowed. The Korean Fries were just regular fries with a little Korean red pepper, which seemed more like they were just trying to jump on a trend. The dipping sauces were fine and a little Koreanized, but overall they were nothing special and I wouldnt bother with them again. I much preferred my French Omelette, though the potatoes were a little dry. The omelet itself was pretty small, so the bulk of the plate was taken up with potatoes and toast.
We love this place! If you’re reading this, make sure to try the Korean fries... one of a kind recipe! The staff are also so attentive. The two main servers they have, Tony and Sarah, are always there working around the clock. The chef, Ian, even shares his enthusiasm with customers when he gets a spare moment. I respect this place because they have dedicated staff and great food and an even better environment to relax — up at the bar or even with your family. This place is awesome and feels like home!
Stopped in last minute on the way to a Thursday night grad school class. Was late to school and SO worth it! The ambiance was fantastic- great lighting, chic and fun and quaint at the same time. The FOOD. Oh my goodness. My friend got some sort of rolls- they looked like Hawaiian roles- but steaming hot, brushed with butter and salt, served with whipped butter and honey in the center. Wow.
The menu is pretty diverse from burgers, to pasta, to stir fry. We opted for the fresh bread and honey butter and it was definitely worth it. My husband had short rib pasta, and I opted for the stir fry. It took a really long time to get our main course but worth the wait. Pasta was amazing and I wish I had ordered it. The stir fry was ok, lots of flavor but also really salty. It wasnt bad, but I probably wouldnt get it again.
Small and intimate dining environment. Been here several times, the food is consistently excellent. The cocktails are great. Brussel sprouts are excellent. Korean fries are tasty. The various entrees for dinner have always been great. Service is friendly and efficient. This is a wonderful restaurant in St. Paul.
Absolutely delicious food in a super low-key space. I always enjoyed the old Cafe 128, which previously occupied the unassuming basement of an apartment building across from St. Thomas and Stewarts has continued that tradition: Deceptively sophisticated yet simple menu, great food, nice people in an intimate, casual space. Its a gem.
Excellent dinner. Looking forward to their brunch!
Stewarts is a warm and inviting little restaurant with delicious drinks, a reasonably priced, consistently changing menu, and great service. The dishes can be hit-or-miss with some being delicious and some being okay, but the atmosphere, price, and interesting choices keep us coming back for the excitement of finding their gems.
One of the best burgers in town! I have been here twice now. First time I had the Rachel Sandwich which was great and filling. Then I had the burger, whoa! Was I impressed. I wasn’t expecting it but the burger had so much flavor and melted cheese. SO good!
Pleasant and attentive staff, tasty cocktails and well prepared food. I had a grilled salmon served with an Asian flair that was very appealing and the ginger molasses cookies with bourbon ice cream sandwich dessert was an incredible dessert.
In love with this restaurant. Ive driven by it so many times but never realized how nice it was inside and that they had such good and unique food! We started with one of the favorites of the restaurant, the Buffalo Brussels Sprouts. These are a must. If you dont like veggies or greens, these will change your life. We also shared the walleye dinner and a special of the night, a type of tostada with crab, radishes, and avo spread. We also had their margarita drink which had a kick to it and was strong! One of my new favorite places in St Paul.
Such a nifty little place tucked surprisingly into an apartment building! Old timey decor and ambience. The food was just fantastic! You must do the Brussels sprouts, burgers, fries, and more. A great and diverse menu that we will further explore next time. The drinks were well made and tasty. The happy hour prices and options are unbeatable. Our server was fun, funny, helpful, and friendly. He helped make our first visit with friends a great time. Please check out this little neighborhood gem. You will not be disappointed.
This place was pretty decent overall. I like the atmosphere, and the attentive staff. Drinks were well made and reasonably priced. Food was good, the highlights being the brussel sprouts and the bread pudding dessert. Meat was a little over cooked. We had both the pork and the chicken. It was all good, but for the prices we paid, the meat should have been cooked better. Nothing was bad, but not overly GREAT either.
Definitely cozy, definitely delicious. Quiet spot on a Saturday afternoon. The terragon hollandaise on the benedict was fantastic, and they make even a simple piece of whole-grain toast something to savor.
This place is so wonderful. Im hesitant to share because I think it may be a secret love for regulars. We enjoyed a pork shank that evoked warm family nostalgia, buffalo style Brussels, tender Korean fried chicken and savory mussels.
Enjoyed a cozy delicious meal with visiting family and vegetarian teen in tow. Enjoyed great winter hearty food in reasonable portions and a good value. It just felt good to be there with helpful service that met all our needs while giving us space to enjoy our get together. The cocktail menu was fun, and enjoyed my not-too-sweet burnt orange and gin concoction. A bar with TVs and packed barstools was close by but didn’t disturb. They have a good reservation system and my consult ahead of visit was handled with aplomb.
Hands down, one of my absolute favorite places in St Paul. An incredibly charming restaurant with delicious food, inventive drinks, and a friendly staff. Ive brought my family for brunch and my friends for happy hour - if you havent been, grab a friend and pay a visit. Highly recommend the burger, grilled cheese, seasonal salads, Korean fries, French omelette, French toast, or, really, anything that sounds good to you - itll be fantastic.
Great atmosphere and service, food is average. I went there for Sunday brunch. I had the farmers breakfast, eggs your way with crispy potatoes, bacon and sausage. I ordered my eggs over medium. I like dippy eggs. Yokes you can dip your toast in and fully cooked whites. Whites were too runny. Parking can be a challenge, especially during the week when permit parking is enforced.
The food, service and atmosphere are all great. My only complaint is the lack of natural light. Its in a basement and it feels like it. This cavern-like feeling has not discouraged me from going to Stewarts multiple times to eat Korean fries or many other things. The cocktails are also noteworthy.
This is a wonderful little neighborhood place. Great salads, spicy sides and thick burgers. We shared a number of apps and tried a few of the delicious cocktails- loved the sweet honey bee and spicy bourbon. Friendly and fast service. Highly recommend!
Such a hidden gem! Amazing food, menu has something for everyone, and great craft cocktails! Happy hour is a good deal but since it is so tiny, get there to get a table! Oh and they do bar time on happy hour which is strange so you need to be there 15m before to get something off the menu, as long as you are prepared for that, you are good.
Very attentive wait staff - great tasting good and excellent drinks.
Cozy restaurant, tucked away in a St Paul neighborhood, great food, good service. Really enjoyed the shiitake tofu stir fry. Great place!
A tiny yet cozy neighborhood restaurant near the University of St. Thomas Serving some nicely prepared food. I had the shore lunch walleye sandwich over texas toast with a side salad. Nice and attentive service person.
Fantastic! Stewarts is pretty small, but Id call it cozy. The burger and kimchi fries were both delicious and our server was wonderful, attentive but not hovering. It was a great place to celebrate my wife and my anniversary.
Food and drinks were great! Love the weekend happy hour. Classy yet affordable. $$$ is incorrect
The single best BLT Ive ever had from a restaurant. Seriously, this thing rivals my grandmas. From the friendly, knowledgeable service to the simple menu full of big flavor, this is a place you need to try.As a bonus, its in a beautiful area perfect for going for a light walk after you fill yourself with the fantastic food.I will be coming here again, and again, and again. Its very rare when you find a place that knows how to make simple food extraordinary.
The food was definitely excellent, and the interior was cozy. The brunch menu had sufficient but not overwhelming options. i didnt try any of the daytime cocktails, but they looked good. The service was a bit slow the day I went, but i would still definitely go there as a brunch meet up place again!
Excellent service; our waitress was very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious as well. We ordered the Korean fries, which had a great kick and plenty of flavor. The Benedict was good, though the muffins were a bit thin, and we really enjoyed the kimchi hash. Would go again!
