Heritage site depicting regional life through tours of 4 historic homes with costumed docents.
The staff are amazing. The tour guide was amazing and the information we got was interesting. Feels like you’ve gone back to in time . Would recommend to visit when in Stellenbosch.
I last visited the museum a long time ago. There has been a change in fashion. The ladies in the different house were helpful and knowledgeable and there were few visitors so we could ask lots of questions. Nothing was labelled as to its origin, paintings had nothing to say who they were of, what their connection was to the house etc. Yet there were accession numbers scattered around and clearly visible. I guess its the modern fashion to leave people to infer everything. Very disappointing
i have a great appreciation for art and culture and whilst exploring stellenbosch i came across the museum ! walking into this museum made me feel so at peace and together with the gorgeous decor , made it a place that i would definitely visit again and take friends too !the staff is very friendly and helpful , entrance is free ( large groups just need to book and the art is exquisite !
Took my 12 yr old ggradson he loved it staff tell stories and it comes alive
Was like a treasure chest. Finding little gems in the heart of our city.

Wonderful
The tour through the various houses is eye-opening. The guides do a splendid job of painting a picture of life in those houses, while communicating the significance of each item on display. They really know their stuff!
Very nice Interesting !
Well worth a visit, to see a bit of history with regard to the 1st planned area in the CapeA time warp to how it was
These historic houses give a fascinating insight into the past through different periods of time. A custodian in the traditional dress of the time will give a brief history of the house & period. A very interesting tour.
Interesting look back in time.

Nette kleine Ausstellung!
Great experience
Good
Beautifully maintained historical house
I found the cultural displays riveting - they combine my interest in indigenous culture and art.
A well-designed complex of museums that offer fascinating insights into the early years of Stellenbosch. Atmospheric and intriguing, the households offer a fine way to while away an hour or two in the dorp.
Excellent Indigenous display BUT they have removed the khoisan sandals... why?
Very insightful and beautiful.
A little bit hidden. Took us a while to find it, but way worth it. Very knowledgeable staff and I cant say enough about the attention to detail in the houses and the quality of the exhibitions.
Quite interesting.. only reason I rated it 3 stars is because Im not a fan of museums (the piano in the picture I found most interesting)
It gives one a look into what things were like back through the 1500 to 1800 years. The eras are quite wonderfully revealed through the furniture, clothing which the hostesses dress in as well as the accessories and the utensils used throughout the timeline.I have personally been here four times already.
Very interesting and worth the visit if you love museums. The authenticity is remarkable.
Stop over for an historical experience
So interesting, had an amazing walk through some of our local history!
Very interesting and time well spent. Different eras, different furniture, wall finishes, arrangements, space and comfort. The higher the income and stature, the more comfortable life became.
Very memorable indeed...Every time you visit, it gives more insight to the era back then.Lovely excursion for the family who loves seeing and being taken back into time.
Always a good experience and shows visitors how life was in the old days
Interesting
Very good representation of 18th and early 19th century buildings
Amazing !
The museum showcases 4 houses which were built in times of 1700-1850. You will able to see the type of lives that the people lived. If you enjoy history, then its a place to visit.
Excellent museum, very well maintained and an interesting walk through the different eras.
