Open, upbeat eatery featuring traditional German eats & beer, plus outdoor seats & live music.
Amazing place to dine and enjoy live music. The beer options were astounding. Our waitress was very helpful with menu items and the beer list. The atmosphere is great with the live music and lighting and layout of the restaurant. I will definitely be back with friends.
Ive lived in HS my whole life and had never been here. Recently Ive had several friends and family recommend giving it a try, and boy am I glad we did! It was so delicious; my husband had the stroganoff and I the goulash, and both were so flavorful and tender. We also got the German chocolate cake to share and it wasnt too sweet/rich, like a lot of chocolate cake tends to be. Would 100% go back!
Have the smorgasbord, it was an excellent sampler. Every bite was incredible. We also had the Black Forest schnitzel and also fantastic. One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in a long time and would come back to Hot Springs again just to eat hear again.
Great food and overall experience! Cassie was a wonderful server and the food was amazing. My husband and I always seek out German food when we travel. We will be back!
We made reservations for 05/15/21 around 7pm. I don’t even remember what was ordered, but we loved it all! This was the best seat in the house. The service was great and we loved the atmosphere. There’s plenty of walking around outside for before or after your reservation. The parking garage nearby is a nightmare but not reflective of our dining experience. This was our first ever visit to both Hot Springs and this restaurant.
Wonderful food and experience. Our server was Kidd and he was great! MAKE A RESERVATION.
Excellent authentic German food! The beef sauerbraten, cabbage rolls, and potato salad are INSANE! Great service. Highly recommend giving this spot a try!
Ate inside was a wonderful experience. Not very crowded. We were td they are one of the three German restaurants in Arkansas to eat. The food was excellent large meat portions. Our waiter mentioned he had over 240 varieties of beer. The beer was poured slow upside down in the glass. The service was excellent. Nice Romantic setting and evening. There is elevator access to the bottom floor and a small outdoor dining area.
This place is kind of tricky to find. Do suggest make a reservation 24hrs in advance, if you make the reservation on the day of , your not going to get the time that you want. They have live entertainment! The sausage was amazing! The cordon blue was also amazing! I do not like Brussel sprouts but will eat them from this place!
I was really excited to go to this restaurant with my friend after our hike in the city. German food, you usually cant go wrong...unfortunately they did go wrong in a way that didnt capture the spirit of actual German establishments. When we arrived there were a group of guys maybe 5 ahead of us who didnt have a reservation. They were seated immediately and the hostess made space for them. However, when me and my friend wanted to be seated as well we were told it was a 2 hour wait. It honestly felt heavily discriminant and intentionally trying to shoo us out of there. Were both POC and could see plenty of seating available for two. We werent greeted as friendly as the people ahead of us. Even after when a new group of 3 people came through the restaurant of the hostesses preferred skin tone with no reservation they were seated immediately.Racism with less words and more actions defines this place.I wouldnt put that personification on this cute town or the other restaurants around. Those ones were friendly, incredible ambience, and food worth coming back for. This one not worth it. Save your money.
Nice atmosphere. We sat outside. My husband got the German Shank roast and I got Madagascar Schnitzel (chicken). Both were fair. My husband didn’t care for the seasonings of his beef and my chicken was tough & came with the gravy/sauce that didn’t enhance the flavor any. We both got Brussel sprouts that came with a cheese sauce that was a bit much. He got fried potatoes and they were delicious. I got spatzel and it was so-so.It was nothing like the Bavarian German food I had this Summer. The service was good.
Very nice place to eat! Food, atmosphere, staff were excellent! Waitress Michelle D. Was an absolute Pro at what she does. She was friendly, knowledgeable and very professional!! We will be back for seconds 😊 If your visiting Hot Springs Ar. Make Steinhaus Keller your first stop!
Our hotel front desk guy recommended this place based on their good beers… we didn’t try any beer because the prices turned out to be way more than we expected… but the food was also delicious. We went for the cheapest meals on the menu which were $20-$22 each. They were good portions though, and the flavors were great. Great calm atmosphere inside, as well. I was really happy that we tried it out, and definitely recommend it.
Good German food. Good portions. Good selection of German beers. In fact, this restaurant had the best beer selection of all the restaurants we visited. The bartender was personable, experienced, and helped me choose the perfect brew to accompany the meal.
We came to Hot Springs for the first stop on our Honeymoon and tried Steinhause Keller for the first time! They really made the night special and made us feel super special as newlyweds! The food was also amazing and so was our waiter! I highly recommend even if youre just looking for a nice dinner out!
Our experience at this restaurant was PHENOMENAL. We love German food so it was a must try. We got there around opening time, but they had some staffing problems because of Covid so we had to wait a little bit longer. The host, I believe his name was Brad, was fantastic. We reserved a table on Opentable app and were seated right away once they opened. Brad ended up being our waiter and he was five stars FANTASTIC. He was knowledgeable with the alcoholic drinks and the menu. We had our one month old with us and unfortunately they didn’t have a changing table. Brad went out of his way to make us a changing table for the little one. He never let our glasses low, and was really good with our three year old. He also went out of his way to suggest things to do in the area kid friendly. Overall he was fantastic, the food was fantastic, the whole experience was FANTASTIC. I highly recommend if you’re in the area to eat here. Will definitely be back!!
The food was excellent. Service was excellent. Had cabbage rolls and German Potato Salad. Bread was delicious.
Superb in EVERYTHING!! We had a party of 6, were running late for our reservation - we called to let them know, and we were still seated promptly without a wait! Our waitress was delightful!! And our meal(swere better than any of us had anticipated!!Was the PERFECT place to celebrate, with family, out sons 21st birthday!!!Thank you SO MUCH!
Environment/ambience is excellent: festive, fits the German theme. Service is outstanding: cheerful, attentive, knowledgeable, and frequent. Food is wonderful in terms of menu selection, portion size, taste, and presentation. Price is reasonable. We will definitely go there again. We are thrilled we found it. It lived up to the high potential its first impression conveyed!
There was a piece of metal in my main entree from the front basket. Glad I didnt cut the inside of my mouth. Only received an apology from the manager. Celebrated my birthday there last year with close friends. We were all disturbed by the metal that was hidden in my food. Havent been back since.I am a German. The food is okay. They at least have German beer in stock, thats the only positive thing from my experience there.
Went here for dinner last night. I got the beef roulade roll with brusselbsprouts and saukercrout soup. The entree was soooo good! My dinner partner got the gorganzolla schnitsel and it was excellent as well. Was my first time trying german food and I was not disappointed!
Food is great, if you can get it fast enough. It took them forever to get us the food. I am giving them 5 star because of the service and how the food tasted, if you are ok about waiting a long time for your food, give this place a try, like Ive said, food is great and the service is also great. I justify the long wait because we were a party of 11 people and maybe they wanted all the food to come out at the same time, but still it shouldnt have taken that long. It was the type of food that be cooked fairly quickly. Maybe this night was a fluke, I will give it another try and see.
Amazing place. Food was very delicious and drinks were great. I loved the live music. The violinist played beautifully and had a beautiful soft voice when singing. Will definitely visit again in the future
We went here for our anniversary and loved it! Such a treat! Happy hubby makes me a happy wifey 🥰
The ambiance was fantastic, service was nicel. Reservations are required due to popularity. Restrooms have a unique setup. We are always looking for authentic German restaurants wherever we travel. Steinhaus Keller is an authentic German restaurant! Looking at the menu got us very excited for the visit. They even have the option for veal Wiener Schnitzel. Hard to find in the US. The food was authentic, but the quality did not match the price. The veal was tough. The pretzel looked Bavarian but not the right recipe. The visit was pleasant and our server was nice. Some eyes may need extra light to read the menu.
It was a very unique dining experience. We had to be seated at the bar as it was reservations only. The pretzel was very good. We had the sauerkraut cakes and they were phenomenal. It is a pet friendly establishment, which is a very good thing in our opinion. Although we did not have ours with us at the time.
Had a cave like scenery to it. I believe Russell was our waiters name very knowledgeable on everything. Drank my first German 🍺 wasnt bad. Food was good
Amazing service from our waitress. Delicious beer, the aventinus on draft was sooooo yummy!I did have a small amount of negatives. The Bavarian pretzel was ok, not great. Very hard and I wouldn’t suggest it for the 14$ asking price. The Spätzle wasn’t seasoned and was bland. The interior was also very dark for a lunch, was hard to read the menu. Lastly, the prices were a touch too high imo, especially for the location. The pros, amazing beer selection, beer was also priced very well. The German potato salad was great! The chicken paprikash was very well seasoned and tasty! All three of the mustard‘s I tried were delicious. The kielbasa and bratwurst tasted needed a bit more portion but tasted amazing. All in all I would definitely come back, if the prices were a touch lower I’d definitely make more more trips from LR to here. The beer garden looked really atmospheric and I can’t wait to try it out!
The food was good and the staff was okay, BUT their policies are plain ridiculous. We ordered a goulash soup and a double sausage platter that we shared. They charged us $5 fee for an EXTRA PLATE that we requested to share a dish. We tried this place few times before and were pleased with the experience, but we will never be back again.
Food was spectacular! Waitstaff was wonderful especially considering that it was very busy. Highly recommend!
Fun little hidden place. Very pretty inside and out. My husband and I went in for our 2nd anniversary. Our waitress was lovely and very knowledgeable. Very nice. We love it and Wed eat there again!
If I could only come back to Hot Springs so that I can keep visiting this place to try the amazing German fare they have!! Recommend getting a reservation because they dont really consider walk-ins!We came at our reserved time slot and were seated immediately. The server took some time to get to us though. I ordered the cheese schnitzel with veal and a side of the potato pancake and brussel sprouts. My friend ordered the chicken Dianne with a side of sauerkraut and the noodle spaetzle. I also ordered the lemon flavored Steigel.Everything was AMAZING! You see that food on the plate? I cleaned my plate so that they wouldnt even have to wash it! The cheese sauce was so so good and the veal was perfectly cooked and breaded and fried. The brussel sprouts were excellent. The potato pancake didnt have much flavor by itself but with the cheese sauce from my schnitzel, it was very very good! My friends chicken Dianne was also good but the sauce wasnt as good as my cheese sauce. Im not a fan of sauerkraut but the noodle spaetzle was my first time trying and it was delicious. Finally, I hate beer and cannot stand it but have finally found one that is light enough and flavored enough to not taste like beer! For all you beer-dislikers, please try the Steigel lemon. They also have other fruity flavors.Glad we made it here and will definitely eat again if I come back to Hot Springs!
Awesome beer flight amazing fresh bread and I got the peppercorn filet with Brussel sprouts and noodle snitzle and it was deffiently a clean plate! Highly recommend for something different with lots of flavor!
Wonderful experience. The food is amazing, the beer selection is spectacular. Even the fall sangria I had was delicious. All the staff was friendly and accommodating. I hadn’t had cabbage rolls in years since my grandmother has been gone and had to try them once I saw them on the menu! My only regret was not leaving any room to try the desserts!
Everything from the beer flight to the dessert was amazing. Our server was fantastic, very attentive, and personable. Overall a wonderful experience!
I’m in Texas and have a wonderful German restaurant that we go to but not that often since it 45 minutes from our house. On our recent vacation, I choose Steinhaus Keller for our only night in Hot Springs due to pretty good reviews. I’m sad to say, I found that I just didn’t think my meal was worth the money paid. It was just ok. And quite expensive. I got the Cordon Bleu with a potato cake and Brussel sprouts. My husband also had the potato cake and we agreed, it was not good. Neither one of us ate it. We also shared a pretzel. It was ok. Other than that, my family said their meals were pretty good. But once again, for what they charge, it should be really good. Now I’d have to blame myself for part of the disappointment here. I’d forgotten to make a reservation beforehand so the only thing we could get was a 9:00pm. Because we’d gotten up at 5:00am to leave Texas, then spent several hours at Garvan Woodland Gardens, then shopped on Bathhouse Row, we were exhausted. My grand daughters both ended up falling asleep while there. There was music performers playing when we got there, but as late as it was, soon after, their time was over. Our food took over an hour to come out to us. Except the kids meals. Our waiter Harry made sure those came out right away. Harry was the best thing about this place. He’s one of the best waiters we’ve ever had. He was so friendly, caring, courteous, and attentive. He repeatedly checked on us. Whenever in Hot Springs again, if I were to return here, it would be because Harry could be our waiter.
It was okay, but anything potato will have zero flavor. The overall prices are a bit to high I think for the area. They have a very wide selection of German beer which was cool but the food again was kind of a miss. Our server was great and very attentive though.
Was looking forward to this all day, got there at 6 pm and didnt realize we needed a reservation. There was an almost 2 hour wait, so we made reservation for the following night at 6:15pm. We arrived at 6 and she was able to seat us immediately outside. It took our server about 20 mins to get our drink orders of 4 waters & 2 beers. Then he delivered someone elses beer to our table, then brought out our actual one. Then took him about 25 mins to bring out our appetizer which was the oktoberfest stew. Whixh was absolutely amazing! After about an hour & 20 mins we were going to check on our food and it finally came out (an hour and 45 mins after we placed it). I understand theyre probably shorthanded, but Im pretty sure it got forgotten, as several of our items were room temperature, and the others were hot. We had the Black Forest Schnitzel (so cold that the cheese had already started glossing over and was hard to the touch and the ham on top was super hard to cut, I wound up leaving half of it), cheese Schnitzel (fantastic taste, and steaming hot), German pizza (room temp, it was eatable as soon as it hit the table. Fantasticmixture of flavor, tasted amazing, but it got cold so fast that we ended up leaving half of it as well), and meatloaf bites (excellent flavor and hot). We will come back because the flavors were so good, but will definitely make a reservation & will check on food more periodically. It was a pretty busy Saturday evening & they did have 2 servers working the 6 tables outside. Hoping to leave a 5 star review for our next visit!
Great food, and got in on a Friday without a reservation. It was their last table so I would recommend making one. Staff was very informative since we knew little about German food.
Great German food and a great atmosphere. An awesome place for beer and bratwurst and other traditional German food. Tucked away in what seems like a basement, this place may be ready to overlook but its worth seeking out!
If you know your German🍺beer, this place has a good selection to choose from.My Wife and shared our order. Starting with the *cabbage rolls covered in Haus-marinara that was outstanding!!For our main we went with a Bavarian Jager Schnitzel. Nice chucks of meat in their hunter cream sauce mixed in with onions, peppers, and sautéed mushrooms.😋😋😋For our two sides We chose the potato pancake(served with a side of sour creamand *Brussels Sprouts sautéed and served in their awesome beer(biercheese sauce.Very delicious food!!Service seemed pretty slow, possibly due to lots of patrons being served.😉Don’t skip this place, your be“Full & Happy” when you leave!!👍👍
Started with the Sauerkraut cakes. They were served with a sour cream sauce on the side. Good light mix of beef and pork with the spices and sauerkraut. I got the Sauerbrauten. It was in a deep, rich sauce. So tender and full of flavor. My dining partner got the Schnitzel with peppers and cayenne/paprika spice. It was thicker that most schnitzel, but very good. And spicy! We both got the German potato salad (nice tartnessand red cabbage (so good!). We finished with a decadent slice of Black Forest cake. Definitely large enough to share.
This place is pricey, but its worth it. Food was delicious! I ordered the chicken cordon bleu, German potato salad, & brussel sprouts. It was all SO good. Environment was awesome & there was a lady violinist who was really good. My son ordered the kids chicken strips which were nothing fancy, but the seasoning on the french fries was delicious. The portions were really small for $8 & he unfortunately left still hungry & had to snack at home.We were a large group so gratuity was automatically applied to our checks & it showed with our service because it sucked. Im sure if she was trying to earn a tip she would have been better but she just didnt care. The thing that disturbed me the most was the 666 tattoo on her arm. Gross!
We have been coming to Hot Springs for years, but we have somehow never visited before. This gem is hidden below street level on the main drag, but The directions from Google and signs provided the way. Two pages of beer and a wonderful menu. We tried four different German beers - all wonderful. We thought we would get an appetizer and then a meal, but we only made it through the appetizer. We can’t wait to come back to try more of the food and beer.
Worth the money! Everything we had was delicious. Our server, Steven, was extremely helpful in deciding what beer to order. There were four pages of beer to choose from. Our only regret is that we werent staying in town long enough to try more of the menu.Pictured are the lamb lollipops and chicken paprikash with spaetzle.
Bear in mind that my experience was on a Saturday evening during the late summer at a popular tourist destination. This hole-in-the-wall place can only be reached by foot. There isnt much parking nearby, so you may have to walk quite a ways of youre parked a long ways off. This place is in a basement. A really big, clean, and well-furnished basement. It was quite busy, and I was by myself, so I sat at the bar. It took a while to get my order, and it took even longer to arrive. I had a little difficulty communicating with the bartender, and I got the impression that I was asking some dumb questions, but it might have just been a long weekend shift with too many people and Im being too harsh. Its an expensive menu, and I went cheap and ordered the cheapest item on the specials menu, the Single Sausage Platter. After looking at the options, I decided to try the Kielwurst, and for the two "accompaniments" ("sides"), I chose "fried potatoesand "potato pancake" (turned out to be dense hash browns). While waiting, I was brought a complementary basket of four types of freshly baked rolls with individually packaged servings of butter (which I didnt use). Im a sucker for good bread, so I enjoyed these. The food was good, but aside from the sausage, it didnt seem particularly special (I mean, I ordered two types of potatoes; they did a lot with those, frying then and seasoning them the way they did, but theyre still potatoes; theres only so much you can do). Do yourself a favor and dont be stingy, open up your wallet a bit more and be willing to pay for something more interesting than simply sausage and potatoes. They have quite a bit there.
Myself and two other adults came here for the first time three days ago and were so impressed! The atmosphere was lovely and we each ordered a beverage and shared two appetizers. The sausage and cheese board was SUPERB!!! Also tried the sauerkraut cakes and those were one of the more delicious things I’ve ever had in my life! When it came time to order entree’s, we were so full that we regretfully had to call it quits. One piece of German chocolate cake to go and we were on our way home, however, not one of us was okay with not trying more of this delicious food so we came back the next evening! This time we shared cabbage rolls which were to die for, had the ham schnitzel, sauerbraten, Brussels, radicchio salad, German potato salad, red cabbage and both gelatos and have to say that EVERYTHING was above and beyond our expectations! The service both nights was superb, thanks to Russ and Cassie! Upon leaving, I told the sweet young lady at the front how much we enjoyed our time here both nights and was pleased that she was the owner who so sweetly talked with me for a bit even though she had plenty to do. Great job with this beautiful restaurant! The service, selection and ambiance is some of the best I’ve encountered! An absolute must for ANYONE in the Hot Springs area!!!
Our favorite restaurant in Hot Springs. Honestly cant think of a place I get more excited about anywhere. Ive been eating here for many years, even before it was Steinhaus Keller, and the meal we had tonight was one of the best. Service was wonderful, both the bartender and our server Jordan. We visited in 2020 amid the pandemic and they struggled with supply issues among other things, just like every establishment in the U.S. Were happy to see theyre back and better than ever. If youre in in Hot Springs this one needs to be on your list. Cant wait to return.
The restaurant is very hard to find. It is almost under a building, basement status. Once inside though it is beautiful. Our waitress was nice and knew the menu well. I highly recommend the pretzel. The sides were delicious. The veal schnitzel was delicious. The pork schnitzel was way to salty. That is my only complaint. They did not offer to re fix it or discount the price. The German potato salad was also a bit on the salty side.
I absolutely loved this little hole in the wall. My boyfriend and I have never tried German cuisine before. The portions were huge and very filling. I couldn’t imagine drinking with this meal, but I saw others with shoe mugs and it looked awesome. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back!
