Unbelievable experience! We visited Stateside on vacation and were blown away by the food, drinks, and service. My mom as a pretty serious seafood allergy and our server was diligent in making sure everything she ate was safe and went above and beyond in suggesting substitutions. The mushroom rolls were so good we ordered seconds, and I’m not a huge mushroom person. Definitely pricey, but absolutely worth it if you’re looking for a nice meal with a great atmosphere.

Go for it, love this Vietnamese-French cusine restaurant. Informal decor makes you feel at easy. The menu is not extend but you do not need to go further, do not miss the prawns appetizer. Top this with friendly service and you have a winner.

Great staff and great food. I would recommend the shrimp and dumpling appetizer. Easy to get a table around 5:30 but line started building around 6:30 on Saturday.

Beautiful romantic interior design which makes it a great spot for a date. Delicious food, amazing staff and exciting menu. The mushroom roll was fantastic, we almost ordered another round. The goat curry was pretty delicious too, a little salty but still pretty yummy. We definitely will come back to try other items.

During a visit to Seattle we went to dinner at Stateside Restaurant . We made reservations after reading reviews of local dining places. So dining is a opportunity for us to enjoy and take in some of the local vibe and at the same time celebrate the opportunity to dine out again. This place was very comfortable, people around us were smiling and having conversations while they ate. The atmosphere brought back memories when I saw a young couple that are expecting happily chatting with each other. That says a lot for this place when considering where you are spending time and money during their special time in life. We were impressed with the dishes of food that we shared. And we savored special flavors of food not easily found any other place not to mention the care in presentation. The service was excellent and the owner would occasionally scan the premises no doubt to survey patrons dining experience. The blend of eclectic dishes makes this place a must for a frequent dining excursion during the week or on a weekend. Seattle residents are fortunate to have this local restaurant and I highly recommend spending your hard earned dollars here.

Came here with my bf the other night and had a great time! We walked in and were seated immediately (although only outdoor seating was available at 7 without a reservation). We got “the coconut” to drink which was like a light, refreshing, nonmilky version of a pina colada. Then we got the duck rolls, heirloom tomato salad, tuna crudo, cumin ribs, and rockfish. Everything was great but the duck rolls were def real winners. I also loved the contrast of the heirloom tomatoes with salted duck eggs. The ribs really fell off the bone but (warningis very very heavy on cumin. The crudo was also a very interesting mix of flavors. Loved it and would def come back!

Good duck fresh rolls with good flavor and the duck is excellent. The tuna tartare was made great by adding radish and yellow mustard paste on the side. The rockfish vermicelli dish was just ok. The fish was firm as you would expect with rockfish but I felt the dish lacked depth for me. My partner liked it. 150 for three dishes and 3 drinks.

Really great food. We tried 7 dishes and all were fantastic. Unusual, beautifully presented, and tasty. Appealing to all the senses. They are flexible too- will make dishes with meat in vegetarian form. Our waiter, Garin (sp? sorry about the spellinghas to be the best, nicest, and most knowledgeable waiter on this planet!

Full disclosure — we read about this restaurant in Seattle Eater and we were really excited to visit. Great ambiance and very nice staff. The low score is solely based on the food. The baby beets a salad with silken tofu was acidic and hardly had any beers, and the chutney was stringy. Additionally, menu said it was $15 but inaccurate on bill, charged $16. The sautéed yu choy was bland and flavorless. The pumpkin curry was thick and lacks identity. The ginger rice lacked the complexity as described by the server. Finally, the crispy chicken was bland and dry. I drank copious amounts of water to help hydrate it.

The food was good, but I’ve had better for one third the price. We ordered pumpkin curry. It was already super expensive, but it was the first Asian restaurant I’ve been to that the makes you order rice separately. It was okay. Pork ribs were good, and the mocktail we ordered was decent, but you can see the quantity in the $14 non alcoholic drink that even a 10 year old would think is too less. All in all, considering the ratings and accolades, I’m sure others had better experiences l, but I for sure am not going back.

I had dinner here last night. Service and cocktails were great. The duck spring rolls are absolutely crave-able. I might go back next time for cocktails and the duck rolls alone. I also loved the goat curry main course. Two of my dishes were misses, in my opinion. I love salt but the squash and Yuba salad was way too salty, even for my liking. I also thought the dumplings with mushrooms and crab was Underwhelming. The dumplings were heavy and starchy. I expected a lot more of this dish, especially with the $28 price tag.

We had the cumin ribs, chili prawns, crispy duck roll and the rock fish with vermicelli. The cumin ribs were fantastic but the other menus were a bit disappointing. The crispy duck roll wasn’t very crispy and would have been better if it wasn’t so salty. The prawns were okay but 5 small prawns for $17 seemed overpriced. The rock fish was interesting and cooked well, but just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Delicious food and unique cocktails. Not cheap but certainly worth the price for a special meal out. We ordered 2 small plates and 1 large plate for two people and it was enough food. Certainly could have eaten more though. With a cocktail each as well, the meal cost $70 per person after tip.

We visited on a Wed night, and didnt have reservations but they had a couple seats at the bar open so we didnt have any wait. Bartender was very friendly and appropriately attentive. We ordered the duck spring rolls, calamari salad, chili cumin pork ribs, and vanilla duck egg custard. The spring rolls were stuffed with very flavorful shredded duck meat and some glass noodles, and the shell had a crispy egg roll wrapper wrapped with rice paper, so yummy! The calamari salad had tons of calamari so worth it in that sense but the dressing was just ok, nothing special. The pork ribs were so so tender, the meat was falling off the bone. And the dry rub was very tasty, not too overwhelming spicy or spice-y. But I think the best thing we ate was the vanilla duck egg custard, though I do have a sweet tooth. It had small bits of pineapple throughout that really freshened it up, and the pastry thing on top was just wow. I like the crispy texture it added to the dessert and it didnt get soggy or anything (though we ate it up pretty quick). Would definitely come back to try some more dishes and get the egg custard again haha.

The duck rolls are pretty nuts. Theyre like egg rolls but with duck inside. The turmeric rockfish was good. It had crushed nuts, herbs, noodles and fish. It was a simple meal. This place is for the price insensitive. The duck rolls were around $15 and were an appetizer. The fish and noodles were a main dish and cost around $28. There were more expensive items on the menu, too.

Awesome place to eat! This was the best food I had during my trip to Seattle. The cumin ribs were phenomenal, braised chicken was also delicious. Get a side of rice with the chicken. One bowl is enough for 2 people to share.Duck rolls with fish sauce were tasty, not greasy, and had nice soft, chewy, and crunchy textures due to the way they are prepared.

Great ambiance and service, but the food was surprisingly disappointing. The duck was dry and almost chalky in the duck rolls. Travesty. The half order of ribs (67% of the price!was overloaded with cumin seed making it taste gritty and one dimensional. Note to the chef, add sweetness with a tamarind+brown sugar glaze finished with lime juice or a citrus gastrique. Go easy on the cumin seed, use half ground cumin.Clam rice was decent. Rice with lemongrass+clam broth served with sesame crackers. Must add the fried chili for brightness (no heat). Was too salty for the wifes tastes, but I thought it was fine. A little overpriced is all.

The food was stunning and the service exquisite! The only reason its not getting 5+ stars is the noise level. Its relatively small (and was booked wall to wall with a line outside, even early!and has mostly hard surface decor. If I had known to expect that in advance I would have no fuss whatsoever, but none of us had been there before. That said, I am likely to return, just not when I plan to have a long conversation with Dining Companions.

Wow, I love this place! Had wanted to come here for a while, and when I saw they were one of the restaurants participating in Negroni week I decided to kill two birds with one stone. I will say that my wait was not for naught and I left thinking that Stateside is one of the better restaurants in Seattle.Ill start with the aesthetics, for a place right on the outer edges of capitol hill it is remarkably comfortable and is like other restaurants in the immediate area where you could see a wide clientele coming in and enjoying their time here, whether that is a family dinner, going on a date, meeting a colleague, or popping in by yourself. You can feel comfortable going into Stateside and enjoying your time without feeling self-conscious. Also, the service is excellent which is always a plus. Now for the food, I will start with the duck rolls which are divine and without a doubt in my top five of dishes to get in Seattle. I also got the rockfish, which was very fresh and scrumptious. Finally, because I decided to do the damn thing I ended with their cream puffs with strawberries, which might have been a bit indulgent but I enjoyed.Definitely, recommend and look forward to coming back in the future.

5/19/19: Brunch at 1130, there was about a 45 minute wait for 2 people. Bar is open seating. Crispy duck rolls were good but a bit too much Thai basil and mint. Beef pot stickers were delicious. The beef was shredded which felt like the meat was melting in your mouth. The banh mi sandwiches were really big. The Classic and the breakfast. Both really good! My dining partner said the classic had some really good flavor but was really rich with the different meats. Cocktails were all great and very well balanced. Looking forward to dinner. Service was prompt, attentive and knowledgeable.

A series of unfortunate events have kept me from Stateside, not least that it is always jam packed. There is a reason for this: fun cocktails, an eclectic but not outrageous menu, great location and really professional wait staff. We cut a swath thru their starter menu and everything was perfect - subtly spiced, aromatic, a little slice of the Opium Triangle in Seattle - book to avoid Lemony Snickets.

Vegetarian Review: There are no official vegetarian entrees on the menu so be careful of that. In the appetizers section, I ordered crispy mushrooms fresh rolls and those were the best I have ever had. I also ordered a curry pumpkin. I didn’t like the flavors - it was too bland for me and very plain dish.My friend who eat everything did love their dishes and drinks.Ambience: really beautiful, small place, dimly lit, and loud

Wow - so good to have the ultimate triple play: no TV, fantastic service and great food. Add in the great atmosphere and this place rocks. The drinks were perfectly described by our waiter, and even when a drink did not sit well with me (the smoky margaritahe took care of it and got me a drink I had already enjoyed (the mule). The food came out perfectly done - pumpkin curry, fish, cauliflower, chicken, ribs (OH MY GOODNESS!they were all fantastic. The service was outstanding given the amount of tables he had. "This is not a fancy restaurant," said a server to me as I looked at my master-stock crispy half-chicken quizzically. "Go ahead and use your fingers." It was good counsel. Nevertheless, while not "fancy," Stateside is high-end, if the quality of food and service are the measure. Its prices are mid-range, but its food is much more than that. If you can get in -- reservations highly recommended! -- Vietnamese-fusion of the kind Stateside serves is likely to overcome your doubts, even towards its oddly chosen name. Dont miss the chicken (it is a large plate), made with stock that has been cultivated and refreshed over four years. The brussel sprouts are fabulous. The crispy duck spring roll is excellent. And dont miss the cocktails, each with character, and the excellent dessert course, including the surprise of a dairy-free creamsicle. Fusion dining is sometimes too inchoate; not here.

I finally got to try their dinner and I was very disappointed. This Asian Fusion restaurant itself is cute with pretty good service but because of the food, I left confused as to why it is such a popular spot. When we got seated, the two of us were recommended to do a family style so we ordered one dish from small, medium and large. The Butternut Squash Salad didnt have any greens but was just composed of sliced raw butternut squash that wasnt very appetizing (it felt like I was chewing through some raw root vegetable). The Chili Cumin Pork Ribs were okay but the meat itself was dry and salty, and the coatings of the ribs had a rough texture due to the dry seasonings. The Clam Rice was interesting (there were many components to the dishand had an Asian soup flavor. Considering it being the main dish though, I felt like I was just eating some salty soup with rice without too many other ingredients. The Duck Egg Custard was probably the best thing I had there - the crackers that covered it went well with the soft and creamy custard. Overall, the ambiance was good (would definitely be a cute date spotbut I would not go back for the food.

Cool spot for Asian fusion in Capitol Hill tucked right next to Victrola coffee! We went to celebrate a buddy’s 30th during the snow storm so we were grateful that they remained open as we were visiting from the bay. Buzzy yet cozy ambiance, warm service! Here’s what we shared:Mushroom roll apps: I would’ve gone with the duck but we had a vegetarian in the group. Still a solid choice. Loved the crisp and the mushrooms were marinated real nice. The sauce could’ve been better.Tamarind short ribs: these were nice and tender but lacked in taste. I’m impartial to pork but I wouldn’t order these again. Would’ve liked more of a kick.Cha Ca La Vong: this is a pretty popular Vietnamese fish dish and Stateside did a decent job of replicating. Thought it could’ve used a bit more salt but I blame the nuoc cham sauce that’s supposed to provide the most flavor to the dish. I suppose they scaled back the fish sauce so it’d be more compatible for general tastebuds.Master stick crispy chicken: awesome. Probably my favorite of the bunch. Not over fried and too greasy (kinda expected it because it said crispyand the stock that it’s in went great with a side of rice.

My wife and I had been next door to foreign national which is great and they sell some items from stateside and the bartender raved about the food. We decided to try brunch today and were not disappointed. We had the crispy rice sandwich and the eggs Baonedict which were both great. My gf and I visited Seattle in late Sept. We came across this place on our way to another breakfast spot - we underestimated time to walk there and got too hungry, and were so glad we stopped.Cute, open-concept, clean vibe. Very welcoming. They dont offer a huge menu and certainly doesnt include any items you see on traditional breakfast menus. But they have a little something for everyone - sweet & savoury & veggie options. They were very patient and happy to explain some items on the menu.We had the charcoal waffle and the french toast. Both were delicious, but I will warn you - they are voth very rich and heavy, I had get them to put some in a to-go box which I never have to do with french toast. So, if you are looking for a slightly different take on traditional breakfast fare - this is your spot.
