Bezděz 144, 472 01 Doksy, Czechia, Liberec
13th-century Gothic hilltop castle with a tower offering sweeping views of the surrounding area.
Love the hike up and the view especially in autumn :)
Fantastic castle towering above all else in the area. There is nice small hike to get there, but the views are quite amazing. 100 CZK for parking, 150 for a ticket for an adult (you can pay by cardAbsolutely worth it. The ruins are magical, there is plenty to see, I recommend doing the tower for the views. The castle is located about 1 hour from Prague, which makes it a nice one day trip.
Rock
They let you walk up 1 hour, all the way.To let you know you cannot pay by card.Very unpleasant people...
Also for kids an easy hike up to the castle. Nothing special but still worth to visit.
Nice and calm castle
to be honest, I was kinda dissapointed🤷🏼♂️so I’ll start with negatives:- Parking quite far (as long as you are not one of the very first at the higher Parking lot). Especially with toddlers.🅿️- At the top wasn’t anything spectacular to see (I would have expected so shows or exhibitions)🤷🏼♂️Positives:- the Castle looks nice from far away😂- enough bistros on the way up🍺- Adventurous Road up😅I’ve just visited a lot of castles, ruins,…so I might be a bit too critical. If there was something cool up there, I’d consider to visit again. But the kids had fun anyway😇I’d give it 3,5⭐️
Super
Incredible. One of the most well preserved castle in CR. Highly recommend.
Very interesting historical sight its definitely worth visiting even though you must walk up quite a steep hill. The views from top are amazing. Guided tour with Samuel was interesting even for teenagers.
Authentic medieval fortress/castle. Part of the outside defense walls are gone, yet still noticeable with full gates and “stations of the cross” by the steep access path. Please be prepared for, at least 30 minutes walk on stony and really hilly path. But reward is worth the effort. Castle itself are basically outer walls, yet the tower is fully renovated and view from the top is breathtaking. There is also small museum of torture and gallery in second tower. You can also find blacksmith on the quad together with souvenirs booth. There are restrooms there, just cassette toilet.Last entry 4:30 pm an you have to leave no later than 5 pm.
Very beautiful castle with splendid view. But it is situated quite high with quite difficult access, but it worth it...
A gorgeous castle. Nice hike up the hill and breathtaking views when youre on the top. Even if it seems abandoned and ruined, therere several rooms preserved with small exhibits inside. A true jewel of Czech castles and well worth the visit.
The fortress is an uphill walk from the town, not too strenuous and with some rest/refreshment spots along the way. My favorite part of this region is the stretch of pine forest between the fortess and the town of Doksy next to Lake Macha (Jezero Máchovo).
Super.
Amazing place. Totally worth the effort to climb
The royal castle of Bezděz, founded in 1264 by the ‘Iron and Gold King’, Přemysl Otakar II, is one of the Czech Republic’s most important Gothic monuments, until its destruction in the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). After that, Bezděz remained a popular destination for pilgrims until 1785, when the monastery was closed by Josef II, then the castle was left in ruin...The castle was built on the phonolite hill of Velký Bezděz, 604 metres above sea level, and located some 20 kilometres southeast of Česká Lípa, in the Liberec Region, Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic. The view from the 30 m tall Velká věž (Big castle toweris so great, and a chapel regarded as an architectural treasureof the early gothic period in central Europe - making the castle a significant feature of Mácha´s region.Admission:Full: 120 CZK (€4.7for adult 25-65Reduced: 100 CZK (€3.9for youth (18-24), seniors 65+, persons with disabilities.Children 8-17: 60 CZK (€2.35)Children under 8: free
Incredible view from the castle, long and hard hiking, but castle itself seems to be not maintained well..
Closed due to the corona
Great View and a nice, old castle. Ca a 10-15min hike
Quite a chunk of the castle. Excellent trip, not that long walk, up to two hours but the castle is spectacular and climb steep enough to be felt in the evening afterwards. Of course, the castle is closed now, but the view from there and the castle from Maly Bezdez which is a must are breathtaking. See photos
You need to be careful with hiking up so take shoes that supportsYour ankles but the hike is beautiful and the castle is beautiful and with time it will be more so with the reconstruction and restorations
Very nice castle. The climb up is a real challenge. Beatiful view! Worth it!
It’s very interesting there a long history and with a nice middle age spectacle.
Bezdez Castle is a Gothic castle constructed in the 13th century by the order of Přemysl Otakar II. Erected on the phonolite hill of Velky Bezdez more than 1,000 feet above sea level, it became the characteristic dominant feature of the local landscape.Bezdez Castle is one of the most significant Gothic monuments in the country and has historical roots in Czech folklore and literature. The castle even offers a romantic panoramic view of the gently rolling hills, further adding to the castle’s charm.Nicknamed the “king of all castles” for its original early Gothic appearance, this castle is certainly one of the best places to visit in the Czech Republic. The premises of the original upper castle are open to visitors. They comprise a valuable early Gothic chapel and the old royal palace. From Bezdez’s tower you can see a quarter of the country when the weather is clear. The unforgettable atmosphere of the castle is enhanced by the frequent costumed parades, medieval celebrations and theater performances that take place there.
Nice ruins with gorgeous view, you have to park your car for 60 Kč and the entrance is 120 Kč (& 80 for students).
Amazing castle! Last 500m of walkway isnt good for strollers.
Castle is very old and nice! Parking 60 kc -car for all day.Entrance to Castle-90ck. Near good restaurants and icecream. Many stones on the way to Castle. Super view from Castle!
Super place to visit, lots of historic. Good guide with good knowledge. Easy parking.
As a typical tourist - youll like it, but if youre not one of them - come on a workday, because dayyum - more tourists there than fishes in the seas. Also, expensive as hell, bring money (credit card okotherwise youll be walking down to get it
Great gothic castle. Placed on top of a high isolated peak, it has superb views of the Elbe lowland plains of central Bohemia. The hike uphill is quite demanding, very hard for parents pushing baby strollers, let alone wheelchairs.
Its a hard climb to the castle from the car park. its not free to park but it is quite cheap in Czech money 60koruna.you have to pay again to enter the castle which was about 230koruna for a family of 5. there are a few stalls of food and drinks plus a live band and a blacksmith making metal work. Its okay for a quick trip if you are in the area.
The panorama here is just amazing!
Really cool castle ruins. You can go in and explore on your own or with a guide. Theres many accessible places, including one of the towers, from which theres a really great view. You can even see Říp hill if theres good visibility. The path to the castle hill is also really nice, full of arches and old religious constructions. It is in a national park so the are is clean and you can enjoy nature around. Theres also plenty of restaurants to have lunch or a quick snack, for example ice cream. The castle is dog friendly, it was toilets, and there are nice places to have your own lunch or rest inside the castle area.
Nice views from the top, but to be honest, this castle look more spectacular from the distance, being located on a tall rock. Also, 90 czk entrance fee to what essentially are ruins inside, is a bit ripoff
Even the castle is awesome, pay attention if it is really open. Unfortunately, no warning before you reach the gate and info on google maps is not always correct.
Lovely visit with amazing views! Loads of traditional pubs in the area if you fancy a nice lunch!
Good parking in Bezdez village. The castle is not so far (but significantly uphill).
Hrozná dostupnostThe stones stairs are very dangerous, because they have already been polished to a smooth surface, not even for a disabled or handicapped person...they really should build a friendlier way to go up the stairs.. I even saw three times more other people fall... it’s a shame that the kulturni úrád didn’t take of this😵😔
I liked the nice forest walk towards the castle. Its a ruin so there is no paid tour just entrance fee. View from top of the tower was glorious. I am not sure if its a good place for people with fear of height.
Perfect view from the top.
Amazing, although theres a fee to pay for dogs and for some reason dogs cant go into the chapel. But you get a flier and you can explore on your own the whole castle. Wear comfortable shoes, the way up is kind of slippery.
Amazing half ruined 800 yo castle on a steep hill. Dont go there with really small kids, prams, old and disabled people - the romantic way up the hill is full of stones and really steep. Therere many stairways at the castle and beautiful views over the countryside, Máchovo jezero etc. WC & some drinks sold at the castle at the souvenirs and entrance fee booth.Park place: in Bezděz village, 60 CZK/day and more. You have to walk at least 30 minutes to the castle.Train stop Bezděz is about 3km from the village plus the hill, eg count 2 hours to get to the castle.Eat at "S láskou Karel". Really. Bring cash with you.
Wonderful view and old castle
Unique hill medieval castle. Worth the 30 minutes climb to the hill top...
The hill can be reached within 30 min of moderate walking, it offers magnificent views, cant miss it
Beautiful castle and amazing nature in the sorroundings. The entry fee is also all right.
Steep access way, fantastic view.
Well-preserved medieval castle with beautiful surroundings. Nice view from the tower. Really one of the must-see places of this region.
The castle is amazing! Yes a road isnt so easy, but you feel there like in the game of thrones.
