Starfish Cuatro Palmas Varadero in Colon

My last stay at cuatro palmas was by far my worst experience at a hotel. My vacation was ruined . No power. No Air condition. No hot water. Couldn’t even charge my cellphone. Rarely you have wifi.I stayed for 2 weeks. Was harassed by one security guard to give my room number ( what comes to mind?he follows me to the womens washroom. I felt unsafe . I reported him. Nothing was done. The hotel itself gives you false excuses « it’s like this everywhere in Cuba » when the middle room, and I paid more for a condo , they had electricity and AC. I couldn’t dry my hair.It did not feel like a vacation. Often zero towels in the room. Room door card 50% would get stuck. Hotel would give me one mini candle and no lighter. I do not smoke. At night I would use my cel phone light. Could not connect to my family. I asked for a credit , it was denied. A couple from Italy were there for 6 nights 4 of them … same as me , no light no hot water no air condition no tv no blow dryer .2 à la carte and not 5. Same food! The only good thing is the location.Besides that ZERO. Sometimes you pay less and get a much better service. They listen but do not do anything . A drunken tourist would insult me and a security guard would laugh. They pressure For food for money every second of every day. They are not as fortunate as us. I get it . I asked for a credit was denied . I was so looking forward for this trip. As a health care worked my vacation was wasted . I just wanted to go back home. They made my stay a horrible one. And still I helped so many of the Cuban people and friends. I do not recommend this hotel to no one

Very convenient location, great people, messed up money.

Can I give zero star?If you think oh well her experience might be a one off. Hear me out, I’m only trying to help as the next “one off” could be you.If you want to be assigned to a room across the Main Street aka 1st avenue in town, go ahead. Beach access? Ya, just remember you need to cross the main road everytime you try to go to the beach or go to the lobby or go for food.All inclusive? You go for a drink at the bar and tip a good amount the fist time. Second round, the bartender literally showed me 10peso or 5 Canadian dollars? And asked me to give one or the other. Really? 1if you need to tip/pay every time you go for a drink, please don’t call it inclusive. 2help with the math here, in what world, does 5cad =10peso?Did I say your room is not only across the street but also come with interesting bed configuration? You and your significant other shows up for 2 doubles. Yes, you remember booking one king. But no one here cares. They don’t apologize for the disappointment they’ve caused at all.Tell your friends, more importantly, tell you frenemies! Let them come here and have the “best” time ever, not the best service wise but definitely the best in terms of impressions. I will never forget this. Cheers!Btw, if this doesn’t change your mind and you still want to book. Please leave a comment below and I have more reasons for you to stay away.All that aside, some of the female staff seem nice. Seem nice with eyes staring at your dollar bill but otherwise... no comment

Service not up to a 4 star hotel!My expectations for the Hotel were high but nevertheless some services were not good.Beach towels were not available at check-in and we had to wait the next day in the afternoon for them... and then go to the beach without towels!!!In the room there was only cold water in the showers. All three days we had to wash with cold water. (Room 4203).We immediately reported the problems in the folder but nobody gave us an answer.

Awful smell in the room, too far from the main building, power source only 110V. Avoid to eat their pasta, you will go directly to the toilet as far for the ice in the drinks. When you arrive they dont give any information you have to ask everything. Not happy with it

As is the case with most hotels in Cuba its older and shoes wear. However it had very high end modern air conditioning and good beds.Service on the resort was generally good but the staff could have been more attentive.The location is right at the start of downtown which is absolutely fantastic if you like to go out and about in the town

Incredibly well situated, clean and comfortable resort on the edge of Varadero. I highly recommended taking a “Superior Room” as it’s a few more steps away from the bustling, sometimes noisy centre of the resort, unless you’re into a little more late night partying, then a room in the main building may be for you. Staff are excellent… attentive and very courteous. Food was good… as it is Cuba after all. Only a few items weren’t available on odd days but it was always plentiful. The nightly entertainment was excellent. There was a great variety, from awesome dancers, a very talented violinist and the “house” band that always sure to put people in good spirits. Cuba sometimes gets a bad rap for “shortages” in supplies but this resort made up for it with amazing staff and incredible location.

This is our home away from home. Weve been going there for 8 years. Recent renovations are making this hotel more and more attractive. Its an adult only. The hotel is built right on the edge of the beach. The hotel is eight on the edge of town. The new Varadero Boulevard is across the street. The Beetles is one block away. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The food is great with a wonderful salad bar and a pasta bar. The Resort Manager is very friendly and is visible and available should you have questions. The ladies at the front desk are friendly, beautiful and always helpful.

Hello!! I spent only 2 days in your wonderful 4 star hotel, and i can tell you it was much much better and higher in service than 5 star hotel i had stayed before. The food was amazing and tasty!!! Every day was live music and performance!! And of the course the beach is the best thing i have ever seen in my life!!! Thank you very much Starfish hotel and special thanks to Juan Pablo Fortun, who solved all the problems i had!!

The beach and food were great! The room we were given was on the street side. Sleeping until 3:00am every night was impossible due to the noise coming from the bar across the street.Next time if I go definitely will get the VIP room from the Ocean side.

We arrived at this starfish hotel at the 20th of February 2020 and checked in to room 4114. The wall from the bathroom was full of mold. It was horrible and very unhealthy staying in such a room. In the Night we could not sleep because of the very loud night clubs on both sides of the street next to the room.The aircondition was in a bad condition and made annoying sounds the whole time. We wanted to call the reception but the telephone was not working.The next morning, after a night without any sleep, we directly went to the reception to talk about the situation. They told us to come back at 12:30 PM. At 12:30 PM we waited another 30minutes to see another room. The next room was very small and also not the category we booked. So they showed us another room. The next room was not clean so they told us to come back in the evening to move in. That was a day full of stress, Organisation and not a day of holiday!We were so tired because of the lack of sleep and we did not have a room to stay in. We had to be outside the whole day without our clothes and things we need which we had used if we had a room.In the evening we arrived at the room and when we tried to get some sleep it was also loud from the clubs outside as the night before. We had a room full of smoking air, it was disgusting. We asked a cleaning lady for some roomspray to get rid of the cigar smell, but it did not work. It was very smelly, especially for us, who do not smoke!On the 22th of February we went to the reception again because we were told the day before we also have to speak with another lady from the public relations. We should be there at 9:30 but the lady was not there. At 10:30 she arrived. We talked with her and we were told we can get a refund as soon as we send another email to the reservation department with all the information. The Lady even gave us a signed document as a proof of the refund.As we left the hotel the same day we already wrote an email with all the information, but nobody answered. On 29th of February we wrote a second reminder email and on 4th of march we wrote a third email, but we still didnt received any answer from Starfish Hotel. We tried to call several times but after our call was forwarded many times they even hang up. We are still waiting for any response or compensation and are very disappointed about the behavior of this hotel.We can strongly advise against booking this or any starfish hotel!!!They are lying to their guests and deceive them. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!

Dont book this hotel! Absolut horrible. Lying staff and they fake reviews on google and tripadvisor!Also a lot of things somehow get lost, what is more than suspicious. so most probably the stuff is stealing their own guests valuables.hotel is very loud, not clean and the service is more than underground.

Compared to the hotels in Havana, this one has low standard. Would not recommend.As we arrived, we were nicely greeted at the reception and although it was around 12pm and checkin was only possible at 4pm, they gave us the bracelet for the resort and we could go to the buffet, bar and pool.They have one buffet, open till around 11am for the breakfast, 12-5 for lunch and from around 6 for dinner. Food was ok. You could also have grilled meat that was done on the spot. The same with pasta. There were also fruits, vegetables, yogurt.For the beverages, there were waiters.The bad part was the rooms. We had the room across the street from the main building, which was specified on the booking site. Our building was at the end of the street, next to a club. They started playing music at around 11pm and did not stop until 3-4am... since the windows were thin, we heard even the people shouting in the street...The room itself was big, but dirty. The walls were stained, the bathroom had a smell and the towels were also stained with something red... I did not want to know what that was... We asked for them to be changed and we got others, they were dirty too although they smelled of detergent.

After coming to this resort just to see the rooms from another hotel in eastern Varadero that I wasnt entirely satisfied with, I was highly impressed and pleasantly surprised with the quality of the rooms, the bars, and the service here. From the moment that I walked into the hotel, I could tell that it was an entirely different atmosphere. The employees and service workers here truly go above and beyond to make sure that youre well taken care of while youre in their hands. Plus, if theres anything that by chance, they might not have the authorization to do, itll go to their supervisor and director who will do as much as possible to meet your needs. The bell hop and luggage guy here was more than simply courteous. He really took the time to show me how everything worked in the room, made sure all of my questions and concerns were addressed, and showed me how everything worked in the room. Even when I had an issue with the safe, he asked if I wanted to switch rooms before I even ever realized it! While other resorts in Varadero have bland and tasteless food, the food here is top notch, with a pasta station, a sushi station, a pizza station all in the buffet, plus a Cuban restaurant with authentic Cuban food (which i can vouch for as a Latina with a Cuban family!and an international restaurant. This hotel is also located on a privileged area of the beach, and the pool is lovely! Truly a place to get away from all your worries and unwind. Ill be back! Had a wonderful and relaxing vacation here. The food was very very good. The staff are all super nice and incredibly welcoming. Mario did an amazing job of keeping the pool clean, was very informative and entertaining!

Best hotel Ive been to in Cuba and its the 8th one Ive tried. The entertainment crew (animadoresare amazing and so much fun, especially Josué, Ivan, David. Ill always return to this hotel from now on. The food, location, services is also all very good.

To flee !I strongly discourage this hotel. I stayed there 2 days, 1 night and had a very bad experience:- Personal belongings were stolen;- the food is infected, I had food poisoning;- the staff is not professional and is unpleasant (especially those who are at the reception);- I asked when booking beach or pool view for my room and they gave me a room with a "garden" view but with the view of garbage cans and air machines;- the hotel and my room were infected with mosquitoes, I requested a change of room because of the mosquitoes and the lack of hot water, they hesitated and were not happy to accede to my request, the other room I got was not good either but I stayed there.I can not list all the mishaps that I met there but here are the main ones.I do not recommend it at all.

Do not stay here, there are bed bugs!!!We woke up in the middle of the night to ticks crawling on our faces and one in between my fingers. I did not have high expectations of the food or decor, but the standard of cleanliness of the hotel is very poor (especially for the amount they charged). We travelled through Cuba and this was the most expensive and poorest quality accommodation that we had by far, the customer service was also subpar at best. The only redeeming factor is access to the beach, but that doesn’t make up for all the shortfalls

This is my 5th time in this hotel, I always had a good experience here. The service is good and the staff are all amazing people. My husband and I will love to have another vacations here. However, my last experience here wasnt as good as the previous ones. I made a reservation for 10 people like 3 months before. The day that 4 of them arrived to the hotel, the hotel administration said that one of the reservations was canceled, which doesnt make sense since they had in their hands the voucher as a proof that the reservation was accepted and paid. After a brief time they apologized and recognized their mistake. But, both rooms were assigned in the cheaper bungalows across the street and not in the main building where the reservation was. Their explanation for this was very disappointing since they claimed they had electrical issued on the main building, which was not true. And as a compensation they just offered a late check out, which doesnt pay the difference in prize for the change of rooms. I had to call to my agent to finally get from them a reimbursement for the actual difference in price due the relocation. My advice to the staff and administration of the hotel is, to be more honest and efficient in the way they treat their guests.

Absolutley amazing! I will be back. The beach is amazing. But, the best part of this resort is the staff. What warm and friendly people. Exceptional service. I tipped well, as they deserve it for all the hard work they do, and I was treated so very kindly. I was sad to leave after 7 days. I couldve easily stayed another week. Very clean resort. Nice atmosphere. I thought the food was good and there was a great slection to cater to all tastes. The nightly and daily entertainment was great. I will be booking again for next year. And this was my first trip to an all inclusive resort. You cant go wrong with this place.

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL HOTEL ! Everything was absolutely aweful ! The room was awful ! Its outside the hotel ! The girls in the reception didnt show us the way to the room and were not friendly at all ! When we arrived at 4pm, they were still cleaning the room so we waited a long time in front of the door and finally they left the towels of the occupants of the room before us :/We asked to change the room and they said that there are no rooms available so we spent the first night there.Meanwhile, we canceled the reservation in the website.When we went to the reception the day after in the morning and we told them that we have found another hotel that could accommodate us, they told us that there are some better rooms available in the hotel (Really ? The day before they told us that it’s all complete ! ).I will not talk about the food or the snack bar ! They really made our honeymoon awful.And the best part ,we did not receive a refund for the other nights after our cancellation until now.We want our money BACK !I do not recommend this hotel !

I had a good time, but this is NOT a 4 star facility. The staff, with the exception of one housekeeper was fantastic. Always pleasant and willing to assist you in any way they can. My servers remembered my morning coffee order, they remembered I didnt like coke or ice in my water. They remembered I didnt use straws. The food at the restaurants and buffet were good. It wasnt 4 star culinary masterpieces, but it was prepared correctly and had pretty good flavor and was hot. The pool was sparkling, the beach always clean. Public areas were constantly cleaned. The bar was great.Heres why I only gave the resort 3 stars. On day 2, I found little red ants in my bed. I went to the front desk, who assured me they would send housekeeping in to change out all the sheets and spray with pesticide. OK, not exactly the best fix, but lets see how it worked. It didnt. My room certainly smelled like pesticide, but my sheets hadnt been changed and the ants were still there. Back to the front desk, another reassurance. Yet another disappointment, same sheets and still ants. Back to the front desk, this time I got a new room. The room was clean and there were no bugs. It was about a block away. Later that week my door lock decided to stop working. I made 3 trips to the front desk to finally get a security person to come and let me in and fix the lock. In addition, this cant be helped by the resort; but the noise from the surrounding bars is extremely loud. EXTREMELY loud. Bring ear plugs. Overall I had a wonderful, comfortable, relaxing stay. However, this resorts 4 stars is not what I receive at home for 4 stars.

We just got back from the starfish cuatro plamas. We were put in the building across the street and down about a block and a half. It was terrible, I would never ever stay there again. We had issues with the hot water, I asked for an extra blanket because the small blanket they provided was terrible and one thin sheet on the bed but they said they didnt have any that night and I would get one in the morning but never did. The halls were so dark at night you couldnt even see your room number. I complained about the lighting but got no where. I found the front desk no help what so ever except one young man that seem to feel sorry for us. We paid $1800. hundred dollars MORE than our family members that were put in the main resort. I will say the food was good as much as people say the food is bland in Cuba our food was very good. The wait staff (Juliettewere amazing and couldnt do enough for you and Mario our pool guy was very help full. I would go back to Cuba because the beaches are amazing but not to this resort. If you like beer and wine you are going to enjoy the drinks but nothing fancy like frozen drinks which is all I drink so water it was lol.

Relatively for the “Cuban” standard, this place is fantastic (which means that things like locks and lamps might just not work). The food was terrific and fresh, and the buffet was never packed. The beach was beautiful, lounge chairs aplenty, and great game hosts. My favourite part was the resorts proximity to the actual town of Veradaro, so it’s really easy to hop onto a motorcycle or taxi and experience some authentic Cuba. Furthermore, there’s an actual Cuban club and discotheque right across the street.

We had another fantastic visit to Cuatro Palmas Veradero...the staff were super helpful and accommodating...the weather was perfect...no complaints whatsoever..!!! We want to commend Juan Pablo and his staff for yet another great week of memories and we will be back next year...many thanks to Randy, Abel, Ana, Andy, Fernando, Javier all the reception staff and anyone I may have missed. 😎😎😎

The beautiful beach is at your doorstep and stretches for miles. The music, dancing and entertainment are world-class. The Cuban food is delicious, beautifully presented, plentiful, varied, and always available as are the drinks. The service from the staff is very, very good...so pleasant, friendly, helpful and accommodating but not hovering. The rooms, grounds, pool and beach are very clean and well-maintained. You can easily get free Spanish classes, free dance lessons, aquafit and so much more. Or if you prefer, you can just rest quietly under a beach umbrella with your book and cool drink. This hotel has it all including a tuck shop and boutiques with local crafts. It is walking distance to bigger markets for more rum and cigars. Taxis and buses are at the doorstep and the porters are so helpful. Cant say enough good things about Diana, Marianna, Randy, Ricky, Pablo, LuLu and Mario. Muchas gracias! Hasta luego!

There were many problems with the resort itself, Curatro Palmas, that were inconsistence with what was advertised on the Sunwing website.For example, on the website, it stated the resort had “24 hour food and drink service.” In the two weeks we were at the resort there were absolutely no 24-hour food places offered to guests. I have been to many other all-inclusive vacations (some Sunwingand have never experienced this.As one can appreciate, this can be frustrating if you miss the buffet hours. My husband and my in laws found this terribly inconvenient and disappointing, as we had all paid for this to be included.We were required to tip most, if not all, servers and staff to get any service. If we did not tip, we would be ignored or they would slam down the glasses/cups on the tables at us and generally be rude to us, even refusing to make menu items because “there was not enough time” to do so at a 24 hour drink bar. In my opinion, an all-inclusive holiday should be just that. There was no mention of tipping for service and was costly over the course of two weeks. When I have been on other all- inclusive vacations, tipping was always included in the pricing.Lastly, items like a dirty room (hair being on doors when we arrived, never cleaning shower, ants in the bed, mold in the shower, and lack of toilet tissue and clean towelsI can attribute to Cuba being a developing country.Hoping this helps other travellers.

Facilities were great beautiful beach.Staff and food excellent.Stay was spoilt by well out dated bedrooms which included no headboard but screws sticking out where the head board should have been, rooms on the front were so noisy that you had little sleep.Unfortunately the main problem was also the lack of tolets only 2 for the whole complex and these were very poor on one day only one was useable so you had to go back to your room.I would not go back this was rated a 3/4 I would only have said 1/2

Beautiful beach. Food avarage, but much better than you can get in local restaurants. Note that hotel have several buildings and not all are near the beach. Location great - near the beach, but not much to see around. Trips offered near by are overpriced and not worth it.

The hotel was great for the most part but the restroom by the pool was out of toilet paper for my whole stay, so you would need to go all the way back to your room.The light in the pool restroom was broken and it stank like pee.When they said my room was ready, it was missing some blankets and we didnt get the blue beach towels until a couple days later. The sheets in the bed smelled like when you forget your clothes in the washer and they start stinking. The treatment towards any tourist was prioritized over the Cuban guests that had paid the same amount of money to be there.In one occasion some Cuban guests requested some drinks first and they werent served until all the other tourists had been taken care of first even though they got there later.My rooms door wouldnt lock well unless it was pushed which I figured out but the lady that cleaned hadnt noticed when she was done so she left my room unlocked for an entire day with all my belongings inside. The pool does close too early, at around 5pm or so which is when the sun goes down a bit and would seem like the best time to be in there, instead they put in the cleaner for the pool too early and everyone has to get out.One night, there were some people filling out a survey for the Hotel with input from the guests, I got my form and started to fill it out when the Hotel manager named Arturo approached me and told me to make sure that I only wrote good things on there and that any concerns be taken up to him. When I explained to him the things I had observed, his response wasnt sincere or trying to apologize, instead he made excuses basically saying that it was the countrys fault.It wasnt all bad though, the beach is truly breathtaking, there are open bars with all drinks included at all hours and the night entertainment at the hotel is awesome. This is actually the first review I ever leave online for anything, but I felt I had to take the time to post some of the ugly things too in hopes they will do something about it. If they could change these things then the Hotel would be 5 stars in my opinion.

Nice place but the staff, especially the lobby check-in and bartenders, simply dont care about the guests.Got sick for three weeks after the trip and had my personal bag stolen while putting it down inside the resort during the entertainment show.Not fun.

Extremely helpful staff, didnt have a single bad experience with any of them. The area was nice and clean. One star less than max since the food was mediocre at best, and that there was constant music in the lobby, where theres wifi.

I give one star for all the employees of the restaurant that were super kind all the time and also for its beautiful private beach. The food was good as well. Thats all!What a disaster the employees of reception and cleaning ladies. First, Ive reserved the hotel 1 month ago, and precise that I dont want room by street side but pool side. Because Ive read so many comments that street is really noisy. But as you might guess we got a street side room. Also the room was not ready at all when we checked in at 4PM, it was extremely dirty and disgusting. We went back to the reception to reclaim and the lady gave us another room. SURPRISE! This room was not ready neither. We had almost 50minutes of wasting time for this. Also there was no beach towels. They said because they have laundry issue. The room management is so terrible! Also you should know that there is NO ELEVATOR. If you are senior or have a heavy bag, it is good to know. Even though they allowed us a new room with late check out, I am not satisfied with this client service. They should improve there management absolutely!

Stayed at the cuatro palm hotel. Adult only was just what me and the wife wanted. Didnt get to stay in the ocean side part, but not a problem at all. Service was amazing. The beach is to die for! Got to take my Cuban national wife on her first boat ride ever on the catamaran for the snorkeling trip. $20.00 per person for 1 1/2 hours longer since it was the last of the day. Then went right back out with another captain and caught 2 kingfish on an hour excursion In the same catamaran. The price is right the shows we enjoyed at night poolside. Only issue is bring booster battery chargers. The rooms only have 220 and only so many plugs in the lobby. It was FIFA 2018 so lots of tourists In the bar. Security is super tight. You cant even bring back people even if your a guest. They must be a guest at a starfish hotel also. I saw them in very discrete action while busy doing other work related things walk up and ask them where they were going and reminded the ladies that they must be guests also. Loved it taking the family for our anniversary in October.

Not very impressed. Got a wicked tummy bug here. I am not sure if it was the food or if I swallowed sea water playing in the waves or what not... Needless to say not a great way to end the trip. While we did got a bottle of champagne and upgraded from the economic room with twin beds to the one with the king bed; we did not get the full honeymoon package. Some of this will be repeated below.Anyway here is why I am giving it a 3 star service:Why it is good!- downtown location! Next to all the action and markets, fun to see all the action of that is what you are looking for.- you can hear "the Beatles" playing, Club was down the street diagnolly across the lake- Bungalow 2 has a beautiful view of the park with the lake- I loved how many animals they had around are so many chickens, roosters and chicks running around as well as cats to get to know :)- customer service is amazing- food actually has some spice- the à la carte restaurant by the ocean was amazingly delicious- the cleaning staff are wonderful at getting the place sparklingWhy it is not so good- there is constant noise until late at night- the hotel spans across main street, it was a bit annoying to have to cross constantly- at night unless you are constantly moving or at the beach there are mosquitoes all over (well it is wet season)- we could not get the "honeymoon suite"/upgraded room and were not offered the chance to upgrade once it opened up- I am pretty sure I got food poisoning the last full day there- the rice was constantly crunchy, they had the heat of the water too high and it was burning on- we got sheets the same quality as hospital linen.- these sheets replaced the fitted sheet and a proper blanket- there was no "do not disturb" for hanger so we could talk the cleaning ladies not to come in... That was awkward.- it would either require a lot of patience or great timing to get dinky plastic cups at the bar with not that much alcohol in them- they cut off our bracelets indicating our purchase for all inclusive package as soon as we handed in the key card. No more drinks for us I guess.- they didnt renew the beach towels or have a spot to exchange them. (This is in part due to the fact their laundry room was under renovation so they had to send linens to be cleaned)- we spoke to front desk that the extra blankets they gave us was making me break out in a rash (I am sensitive to wooland the switched those for another hospital sheet...- the next day they took the extra sheet -_- I am glad I packed pjs- the ac and the fridge were both very loud... All night. (Turning it off made it too humid to be comfortable)Overall they pinch pennies wherever they can as far as I saw. But they had great customer service.I flew with Sunwing. Photos show one of the cute things they would make on the bed, the view during the day and night, and the buffet dining hall.

Very nice hotel in a quit area of Varadero. The hotel area is very simple and a little bit old fashioned. But you want like it. In the hotel you can find three bars, in which you get all drinks for free. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, but please don`t claim a modern and west oriented style. The highlight of the hotel is the picturesque, wonderful beach -such a dream. Here you can find recumbency for free. All time in the main restaurant there are a great division of food and dishes. I recommend this hotel very much.

Great location. Located in the downtown area. Able to safely walk the strip.No swim up bar which sucks. No disco (theres an outside party always across the street so no real worries there)Not enough music at the pool area. Bring your own speaker.

I just returned today from the Starfish Cuatro Palmas. Last year I stayed at another hotel and almost didnt go back to Cuba. What an amazing time I would have missed. Rooms were clean, my view from my room amazing ! They were painting and building gazebos as well as freshening the paint on chairs. Entertainment was beyond what I would have expected. The first night was a rock band and I would have paid good money here in Canada to see them. They were awesome ! Each night was another entertaining evening. I thought that I would be spending my evenings going to the beatles bar and calle 62 etc. but I had much more fun right at the hotel. Food was great and I am a fussy eater and dont like fish lol. I own a food establishment and so I watch for how well food is prepared, the cleanliness of the pots pans, how they are holding the temperatures. I was quite happy to come here for my meals at the buffet. Not only good, but very well presented. Freshly made to order omelettes in the morning was a great treat, and pasta made to order :-)As it is a small hotel it was easy to get around and we didnt have to walk a mile to the beach (which is lovelyAlways had enough beach chairs and staff even helped us set up.Now the best part was the staff. I cant say enough about the staff, they were helpful when needed, fun and great at their jobs. They made you feel like family and it was hard to say goodbye when my 8 days were done. I can hardly wait to go back and visit with them again. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all. One of the best vacations I have ever had !

Not just construction - Beware of filth!Arrived at Starfish with 4 kids & 4 adults, so of course we were not looking to switch hotels, but this is what we were forced to do.We had a morning flight so arrived early at the hotel. Although the lobby bathrooms were filthy with pee on the floor and toilet paper stuck to the wall of one stall, it was 11am and a rush of other people just left for the airport when we arrived.The beach and pools were good and we had our first (and lastbuffet lunch which was also good; sometimes Cuba gets a bad rep for taste and variety but it was all fresh!Disaster struck when our rooms were ready. BEWARE of the sections that include rooms 2305-2306, and also 3305-3306. Chances are this whole wing of the hotel is the same?Our rooms were filthy;- dirty old mattresses (stains)- construction dust (drywallall over- bathroom mold around glass, lots of it- dirty lamp lights, no lamp shades- bugs by the dozens crawling out of floor drains- old mattresses that sunk to the frame belowAfter dragging 4 kids & luggage up 3 flights of stairs (elevator closed for construction), seeing that both rooms were almost equally filthy, we went back to the front desk hoping for another 2 rooms. The disengaged front desk clerk finally sent us to “Customer Service “ office on the 2nd floor. The associate there located 2 other rooms for us to look at; 3305/06 directly above. Hoping for better rooms we followed the customer service agent along the side of the hotel and back up 3 flights of stairs to the same wing/same construction zone, but only modestly clean rooms. Lots of drywall dust & dirt in the rooms, and once again the mattresses were old and filthy.Back to the lobby for the 2nd time to contact our Air Canada rep for help to get us to another section of the hotel.Another SHOCKER? Those lobby bathrooms that earlier stunk with urine, and toilet paper stuck to the stall wall at 11am, still hadn’t been cleaned by 4pm and STUNK even worse!By 430pm and little progress, we just wanted out of this FILTHY hotel and willing to do anything, even fly home!We are not accustomed to high-end resorts and work hard to even afford a trip for 4 kids + 4 adults. (It is not like us to expect a 5 star for the price of 3 star).Regardless how old a facility is, just keep it clean, that’s all we wanted, especially with kids along with us!Fortunately our Air Canada rep was able to move us to Memories Hotel, but it cost us about $800 CDN + cab fare for the upgrade. It was now past 5pm and our 1st day of vacation wasted.Folks, this is not one of those critical reviews, we have travelled to Cuba and to modest hotels before. We genuinely want to suggest you avoid this hotel, at least until the renovation is completed. Their biggest mistake was trying to put guests in this construction zone, and keep in mind it is a whole wing of the main building that is slowly being renovated.Finally, the desk staff and customer service staff were uncaring, and it was evident they had dealt with this many times before. This hotel simply needs to stop booking rooms in the main section until the construction is done, the area professionally cleaned, and facilities working and maintained.We do intend to pursue this further with SellOff Vacations and Air Canada Travel as it was our worst experience in 25 years of travel.

We bought a day pass for 35 CUC. But there were not any sunbeds available on the beach (most of them were brokenand the staff was not keen to help until we complained to the manager.The drinks were watery and filled with non-branded beverages!The food was bellow average! The 4 star rate doesnt correspond to any Western standards!The souvenir shop was expensive! All the cigars were 2,5 more expensive than anywhere else in Cuba.

Food: Only time you eat is to fill yourself up and to relive that hunger, however food was bland and mushy 4/10Entertainment: something to do every night 7/10Staff: super friendly *loves Canadians 10/10Location: need to take a bus into town or Havana so check with main desk to book a trip, it would cost *I think its 20-40 CUC for a taxi into Havana, very nice beach side location 8/10Rooms: small bugs all over the floor and if you leave out food overnight ants will come but in the end the room was decent for a three star resort. 4/10Roomservice: is great, care taker does an amazing job cleaning the bathroom and changing the sheets *I know because Ive thrown up everywhere and the next day its fresh. 8/10Bars: they serve the same kind of beer everywhere throughout the resort, at first it tastes like Budweiser but the more you drink that, the thicker it tastes, they occasionally serve minors and they tell by the wristband colour they give you at check in. They do give out shots, many varieties which tastes like home if you do miss it. 7/10

My fiance and I stayed here for the week of November and fell in love! The staff were wonderful and our room was very comfortable and clean! Food was fantastic and the drinks were delicious! Thank you for the lovely stay!

Do not go here...worst hotel Ive ever stayed in anywhere. Check in time didnt match confirmation, staff were unhelpful, no facilities available unless upgraded to all inclusive, room furniture was damaged, towels were stained, no electricity/water on day of checkout...the list goes on. :(

As a full time student, who works part time, finally had enough money saved for an all-inclusive vacation prior to commencing the next term.It was the absolute worst vacation of all time, in terms of hospitality, food and service.Primarily, the staff was above average until they figured out I had limited funds to tip. (2-3 days into the stayThey treated me like absolute garbage.For example, when I went to the bar to order a drink, the bartender would run to the back and hide for minutes. Reject my specific order and say, "sorry were out " when the person next to me ordered the same drink.Food was bland and repetitive every night. I’d recommend bringing ketchup, tabasco sauce, or any sort of topping’s you’re accustomed to. Stay away from any meat, because it will most likely be under cooked and you will get sick.Also found multiple insects in the buffet food, which was most likely stored and reused for next day meals.At the end of the trip, when I explained to the customer service adviser, how unhospitable the staff was, items/money from my room went missing after the cleaning lady “cleaned” my room. She simply fake typed for a couple seconds and asked, “is that it?”I would not recommend this hotel to any student looking to enjoy a fun vacation as the average age was 40-80 years old.The only bright side was that the best clubs/bars in Varadero (Havana Club, Casa De Música, Calle&2, The Beatles, Havaneandowere all a short walk away. This does save an arm and a leg on taxi fairs compared to other hotels in the city.

My trip to Cub was not the best, the hotel Starfish needs to be updated a lot, the staff was wonderful, the food very very bad, the resort poor, to many bugs and flies on the food,and no taste was so ever, cats and dogs outside the food area, beach had to many rock on the sand, the ocean was wonderful, the drink were water down and they did not taste good, the 3rd day the pool was green and very cloudy, could not go in. The entertainment was excellent, the DJ was very friendly and nice.1st day our room smelt like smoke and to many bugs, 2nd day the AC broke so it was very hot and we could not sleep the night, it took them the next day to fix it after we complained 3 time. Also we never knew what the agenda for the day. We found out by speaking to other guest. over all i rate them 2. I do not think i would never go back to that resort.

If I could give negative reviews I would; holy man did this resort ever turn me off of Cuba.Dont get me wrong; its beautiful and spacious but that doesnt matter when youve got bar tenders giving you water from a gun thats hooked up to the taps. This fatal flaw enevidibly led to both my girlfriend being sick the entire time we were there.In the midst of losing 20lbs in one week because we couldnt keep anything down we were severly dehydrated and the maids came around with 1 water bottle for the two of us, sometimes in the morning sometimes in the evening, sometimes not even at all!Being sick aside, the bartenders are robotoic. They dont crack a smile, and out of all the resort staff we met 2 people who we tipped, not because their service was excellent but because it was above the average dullness of the other employeees working there.Food was edible but lacking in flavor but thats a Cuban thing cant blame them I guess but man oh man this is my second time coming to Cuba and this resort lived up to every horror story my first visit destroyed.

We stayed there in mid July 2016 visit from from Australia and were on a budget but was very pleased with the location and access to the beautiful beach and waters. Unfortunately there is a night club directly across from our room on a Tuesday night and the hotel didnt move us away from the noise so we didnt end up sleeping until 2am. Other than that Varadero is a beautiful place

This hotel has two parts and the cheaper (or so called standardrooms are in a separate building across the street with no access to the beach or pool or anything at all - so be very careful what you book.The Hotel itself is quite old and is in need of refurbishing. The rooms are not the cleanest and you can expect some cockroaches visiting.The food and beach are quite good especially the "Cuba BAR" is worth visiting as the cocktails from the main bas are watered down and taste awful.There is some entertainment at the lobby every night whose quality vary.The swimming pool is very shallow (95 cm in the deeper endso it is impossible to swim in it but is good for children.
