Standish Cafe - Restaurant in Saint Paul, United States
My only criticism is that the place is loud, as in the conversations at other tables seem louder than normal. Great service, delicious food and good value.
My absolute favorite breakfast spot in the cities. Make sure to get on the waitlist in advance if you are coming on a Sunday morning around 10. They don’t take reservations, but trust me the baked goods are worth it!
Lovely quant brunch spot. Great staff!
All around absolutely amazing place! One of the best breakfast joints in the cities and my favorite. The food is FANTASTIC. The staff are incredibly friendly, real, and lovely people - like all of them. They embrace the neighborhood that theyre in (the kids, the animals, etc.and couldnt be more welcoming.
The biscuits & sausage gravy was the best Ive ever had! My brother Joe is one hell of a chef!! ❤️👊
Friendly staff, great location, dog friendly patio.
Lovely local brunch food. Parking lot too. Friendly fast service
Loved this place. Ordered the Desayuno burrito (carinitas black beans avocado eggs cheese in a burritoand it was amazing. Very flavorful comes with mild green salsa. Husband ordered the Ruben and he also said it was very good. If you chouse the standiah potatoes they are perfectly cooked and comes with crumbles of bacon. You can choose from a medium and dark roast coffee. Staff is friendly and nice. Will be back again when visiting MN.
I love this place so much. Great owners and staff, delicious breakfasts, impeccable music selections. Neighborhood fave!
We had an excellent Fathers Day brunch today. The server recommended the gluten free pancakes even though they have gluten pancakes as well. They were excellent. The burrito and BLT were also delicious.
This is my favorite place for American-style breakfast. The gluten free pancakes are pretty great, omelettes are my go-to - they’re all tasty. Steak & eggs is also good - they know how to properly cook a steak. They deliver (at least to my neighborhood), do curbside, the location is cute and comfy for eat-in, and their staff are super sweet humans.
We Came here at the end of the winter. It’s somewhat small but they had a nice waiting area with complimentary coffee. The salad was very tasty but we asked for the huevos rancheros to be well done and they just couldn’t make it right, although they were Very nice and tried to make another one but it just didn’t work. Five stars for the vibes and the elite staff.
We came here after being invited by some friends for brunch. The food was fairly bland, and the biscuits dry. Atmosphere was nice, but being in an older home the layout was very cramped. Staff wouldnt seat the table until everyone had arrived, which led to a cluster of people around the door and counter. For the money paid, I was hoping for a higher quality of food. $13 dollars for a single biscuit and grease gravy, and $6 for a "salad" containing a variety of lettuce and presumably a squirt of lemon juice? There was an assortment of diet based options like gluten free, which is one of the only reasons I can see for the amount of traffic we saw there. Based on my first impression, I probably wont return.
This place is just amazing. We’ve been going here for a year. Everything I’ve had is delicious. The service is great and the food is likely the best breakfast I’ve ever had.
Despite waiting for over an hour to get a seat, the atmosphere and staff were very inviting and friendly. The portions didnt feel too large for breakfast/brunch, and the flavors were top notch.
Delicous meal and excellent service. Food is high quality ingredients and excellently prepared. I would recommend both the Brunch Burger and the Corned Beef Hash. We did wait 40-50 minutes on a Saturday at noon, but it was worth the wait. Bathrooms, tables and resturant were very clean. Will definitely be returning here!
Best breakfast in twin cities hands down. Bk sandwich, standish breakfast. Very rarely is Rueben as good as theirs if ever.
They nailed every detail of our brunch. Really impressed with everything. My one gripe is they are unable to serve liquor, but I can live with that.
Yum! Had brussel hash with monkey bread and it was so yummy!! The coffee is kept in carafes so it isn’t burnt. The monkey bread was fluffy and soft, delicious!! And the Brussels were almost perfect - needed a sweet element, but overall delicious. Would absolutely go back to try something different.
Homemade amazing food…#southsidepride
Have had many dishes from here, all great. The Aebleskivers are really fun. Would recommend for a solid sit-down experience.
I love Standish cafe! The brussel sprouts hash is the perfect brunch meal, so much so that I barely ever want to get anything else. The pancakes are so good. This is my go to spot to get food from when people come into town to visit us. As a southerner the style of biscuits aren’t really completely to my liking, but I love that they include them as an option instead of toast so .. no complaints!
The food is good (a little bit salty for usbut the service is great. They check in several times during the brunch. Very friendly people!
Ordered steak Benedict for takeout. The food was cooked to perfection. It tasted out of this world! Will definitely be going back!
Food is delicious but staff is not super friendly. I didnt get great vibes from 2 of the girls that work here. I also had 3 people walk by me without acknowledging me when I was picking up a to go order. I also was notified my order was ready and still waited 10 more minutes for it
Friendly staff and good food, I have a little trouble not comparing it to the slew of great brunch places in San Diego but as far as diner-style modern breakfasts go it was pretty good. Absolutely no problem with anything we had, just not knocked off my feet by it. I would still come back here and bring friends, theres a decent range of entree options.
Delicious and creative options! There was a bit of a wait and that is to be expected at a great little spot like this.
Very unfortunate experience. We were told it was about a 30 mins wait so we put our names on the waitlist and waited 40 mins. Came back were told it would prob be another 20. Get seated and it was at least another 15 before someone stopped by. Ordered and proceeded to wait almost a full hour before someone swung by to tell us that our ticket got lost. We reluctantly re-ordered but said we wanted our food to go. About 15 mins later she came back and said they were out of what we ordered. Gave up at that point 🤷🏼♀️ The servers were very kind but that just couldnt save the experience.
The name of this restaurant perfectly describes my experience there for breakfast. You STAND around waiting for a counter spot that is empty and they just need to put a fork down. Then when the food comes you say “ISH”. Admittedly, the pancakes were large and fluffy and tasty. But they only give you about 2 tablespoons of syrup in a tiny little metal cup. The syrup lasted half a pancake. When they brought the scrambled eggs they forgot about, it was dry and tasteless. Never heard from the waitress after taking my order.
The huevos was fabulous. Isabella was the nicest server and the owner Victoria came out to say hello and tell great local stories and she was really interesting. Finally Maddie came out to share hugs and say goodbye till next time. Go there. Enjoy.
The Standish Cafe is a great place for your breakfast, brunch, and lunch needs. Since it was brunch time, I had the Standish Mimosa to start. They were standard mimosas but you got a fancy little bottle of champagne to use as you pleased. Also tried the cinnamon roll. I didnt like it because it was too much frosting and too little cinnamon, but maybe that sounds perfect for you. I’ve had the aebelskivers, which are neat. For the meal, the brussels sprout hash was really good, but Im not sure Id get the sourdough toast again as my bread side. The brunch burger is also good, but not as good as the brussels sprout hash.
Ordered site-unseen via Door Dash and Wow! New fave breakfast place!!The Southside was "just right"...flat top fries & biscuit were the chefs kiss. The veggie omelet was Loaded w-veggies and loved the multi-colored tomatoes. Perfect with multigrain toast & hashbrowns. The Aebleskivers were the yummy, fun, bites of happiness. Clearly demolished the box in the pic. Lots of food for everyone!!😊
Visiting from out of town and this was by far our favorite meal of our trip! Outstanding service from all employees, especially from our server Maddie. She was super friendly and personable. We found out that they were understaffed but we couldn’t even tell because she was so attentive and great at her job. The food was excellent and the portions were perfect. The brussel sprout hash was such a unique and satisfying dish and the homemade biscuits were insane lol. If we lived in Minneapolis, this would be our go-to spot for sure! Definitely recommend.
Wonderful food, friendly staff. Is there a better place in the city to start the day? I dont think so. Im a HUGE breakfast fiend, and I would put this place up against any other place in the region you care to name. Its THAT good. 🤘🏾😁🤘🏾
Holy cow is the Brunch Burger delicious! I like a number of items on their menu, but after having the Brunch Burger for the first time I had to tell everyone about it. So you, everyone, go get a Brunch Burger. The english muffin bun, the slightly spicy sauce, the cascading egg yolk. Its amazing. I wanted to eat another one the second I finished it.
Everything we ordered was outstanding!! Definitely will be returning soon.
Amazing food and amazing service! This Cafe and its owners/staff are a gem for this neighborhood and city...Everything tasted so fresh and favorful.
Hands down the best service, and food in South Minneapolis. Victoria and their team make everyone feel welcomed, and appreciated. The food is always the right temp, packaged and presented well, and it is always on time.I order from Standish every weekend and I have never been disappointed! Please support this amazing, locally owned business. Let’s not let Covid take away another amazing, small, locally owned, restaurant from our neighborhood!!!It doesn’t get better than STANDISH CAFE! ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent brunch...loved the huevos rancheros. Food was great and the service was super nice. There is a small outdoor area as well that has some heaters during the winter. There is a small parking lot or some parking on the street. Will likely be back.
I absolutely LOVE dining at this place. The food is always yummy and i am pleased that it is locally purchased, some is organic, and I know it will be of excellent quality. I had the Cobb Chop Salad today -- loved it. I liked the mild taste of the blue cheese and the avocado and chicken -- yummy!! and dont get me started on the bacon. OMG. YUM. Service was great, coffee was amazing. I usually get the reuben..which is spectacular too. But my salad choice today was perfect! Thank you Victoria and staff for a lovely meal and experience. Do i recommend? YES, YES, AND YES.
Inside space is clean and cozy, yet roomy enough to turn around in. They also offer some outdoor dining area when weather permits.Service and food was good (had gluten free pancakes with pecans). Medium roast coffee was a tad on the strong side, but tolerable with cream added. For what you get, the prices are a bit on the highish side. I wouldve enjoyed my pancakes a little more if the butter and maple syrup size served with the 2 thick cakes had been a bit more than modest.
So good! The hype is real. Wandered over here on a Sunday morning and was not disappointed. Enjoyed the patio and the kids menu was great. We will definitely be coming back again really soon! Great and fast service.
It is like I died and went to Copenhagen! Best coffee and aebleskiver this side of the pond. I wept with joy! Fantastic open-face toasted sandwiches ("toasties"). Wait staff kind, responsive, and observant.
I was hoping for better as I had read articles and it looked soooo good!! But I was let down. No liquor license which means no bloody Mary’s. Odd to me to do brunch without a bloody but I get it. But it only got worse. One of our highly recommended homemade biscuits was almost burnt, totally dried out.My chicken sausage/mushroom omelet.....it was so unevenly spread out that I had a mushroom only omelet until the very end, where it was only chicken sausage. Boooooo. How do you so badly mess up an omelet as a place that serves brunch 7 days/week.Service wasn’t good. Our server was quiet and meek, didn’t really know the menu. Our waters were always empty and I finally asked other servers to fill our waters 2 different times. Why tip if there’s no continued service? Then I could have told her about the omelet etc.My friends brussel sprout hash was really yummy, the goat cheese on it was out of this world. I recommend that dish.I’m sure I’ll be back and hope for a better experience.
Really good breakfast, friendly service. Bathrooms were clean, nicely decorated, and smelled good!
Love this place. Best breakfast I have had in the cities yet. Service was perfect aswell.
Delicious St. Patricks meal. Coffee refilled frequently. Aebelskivers moist and very tasty. Will definitely return to try other menu items.
Delicious! Everything was bursting with flavor. We got the forager omelette, brussels sprouts hash, and the huevos rancheros which was the hands down fave. The small monkey bread is plenty for 2 to share and the biscuits are huge and northern style (not pillowy buttermilk southern style). Quick friendly service on a Saturday morning!
First time visit was for Sunday breakfast/brunch. The service was fantastic. Perfect balance of making sure we had everything we needed without hovering or being bothersome. They offered two different roasts of coffee which is pretty uncommon for this type of service. The food was great. I had the Forager Omelet and I really enjoyed it. The Standish Potatoes were delicious. They do contain bacon bits which might be a surprise to vegetarians or vegans (it’s not noted on the menu that I recall). My wife had the Brussel Sprouts Hash which she really enjoyed. We started with some coffee cake which was good. . The combo of tasty food, friendly service and a menu with enough interesting-sounding options will definitely bring us back. We were sad to see Colossal Cafe close but this is a very worthy replacement.
I just have to take a moment to share with you all the unique and lovely experience that Standish Cafe has to offer you. I do not work here, even though it would make me so incredibly happy to work for the two owners of this phenomenal new establishment. Victoria and Joesph have created a unique breakfast and the ambience that goes alone with it. From the beautiful wood decor and stone arches, to the vintage style chandeliers, to the quirky fun-loving staff and beyond... This place is a MUST. Mrs. AllySunshine or Momma will I no doubt make you smile as you relish in uniqueness of the menu. This place is the bomb dot com and you would be remiss to not go get some primarily locally sourced grub here.
