Stabroek Market - Market in Georgetown, Guyana
Very busy and with lots to see, can be a little on your face at times. However, its an opportunity to see local Guyanese as they are, absolutely brilliant.
It was very busy. There was lovely fruits and vegetables and friendly vendors.
The Market is real interesting, but watch your step and back, because those carts, trollies with goods, can be moving like a fraight train.Outside the market are groups of vans and taxi, drivers hustle hard to put bums on seats, so know your location and fair price before talking to drivers. Thats my tip for the day. 😁Hope it assists you in some way.
It is where u can get all u need lots to look at
Seabrook market is in my homeland Guyana its always beautiful to be here and shop its fresh fruits and vegetables are always good to buy and cook love it
Always too crowded and Unsafe!!!
Hold yuh pocket hold yuh pen
Real best and busyness
A very convenient place to shop your groceries, fruits, vegetables, meats etc and much much more.
This place has just about everything you need. Here you can even take a 10 mimite small boat ride over the Demerara River to Vreden Hoop
The vibe at Stabroek Market is truly unbelievable. In the day you have the hustle and bustle of the Market traders sell everything from fresh fish and meat to bread fruit, okra and aubergine. Everyone is husting for your money. In the night that same vibe carries on with all the street food vendors and local mini bus / taxis taking over the park.
Went down memory lane. Home will always be home.
As far as outdoor markets its a friendly, jovial group of merchants in the market, relatively clean.
Very colorful and safe
As a Guyanese who left 20 + years ago, I expected to see a better change.
Walk around the market, is like feel the vives of the city. A lot of noise, a lot of people going and coming.
Fresh fruits and friendly people 😌
Good customer service experience from the vendors however there was a sense of " keep ya eyes open and hold on to your pocketbook. Some areas need a serious cleaning.
Friendly market with lots of fresh foods and good conversations.
A return to the familiar. Inside the market was clean, ordered, but it was evident, the vendors were struggling, insufficient customer traffic. The back of the market was a disappointment, the section over the Demerara River was closed off as it seemed the area had become dilapidated and parts had fallen into the water below, rendering it unsafe. Outside, on the east, north and south was an ordered chaos, the stall owners with their produce in varying stages of ripeness on the way to rotten states, appeared tired, forlorn, despondent, trying valiantly to keep up an appearance of a bustling shopping thoroughfare, but were being overwhelmed by their futility. Structurally, the market is a landmark, a symbol of former glories, seen much, now, in its neglect, seems to be waiting out its eventual demise, as if it, too, may slide backwards into the river.
Stabroek market is better and cleaner but thief man still lurking around trying to rob ppl so be careful!!! Borda market better shopping experience
Great place to visit fresh food and la variety of fruits to choose from
Theres a little bit of everything sold here, inside and outside with more local vendors. Very busy in the daytime. Outside and surrounding area gets a lot of people. With cars having to squeeze thru tight lanes and foot traffic it can get crazy. If youre not familiar with this area, its best not to come alone.
With a little love and some cleaning this market would be wonderful! I highly recommend you go with a local. I do not recommend going alone.
This is a market Ive been very familiar with. After over 20 years away Ive returned to see a not so good looking "Big market" as we called it.
It was nice. Vibe is good. Definitely not recommended for tourists with any assist.. If youre by yourself then please avoid.
A visit to Stabroek Market has been very interesting, knowing in the past that it was scary to even been there alone, but now things are much more secure and the people are much more friendly
love this place. I can shop in the day and go back in the night for food.
Busy. I loved it. The best Guyanese market experience. Please be careful, keep your belongings/valuables hidden/nearby.
It’s very busy, and if it’s your first time there you would feel a little intimated, but the vendors are very polite and welcoming. Abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables I would even go as far as saying most of them are organic (no proof). But the smell and taste is so authentic that you won’t have the same taste and smell in the US
Stabroek market has been a very popular land mark in Georgetown but much work is needed to its structure and surroundings. When it rains it get very dirty and difficult to maneuver through.
This place is wild and crazy and insanely busy. But that is part of its attraction. Got some great deals on foods and clothes
If youre not a local I would advise you be very careful around this area, notorious for pickpockets and other questionable characters. Have someone who is a local and trust worthy escort you. Otherwise, you can get top quality greens and meat here, along with other miscellaneous things.
Fantastic & authentic place, where you dont have to miss. Was about 2 hours there, so kindly persons around, very friendly even you take pictures. Lot of good vibes. THE market to go!!
Historic. Full of life. Lots to see and do. A transit hub for minibuses that can transport you to your destination. Lots of restaurants and street vendors selling an assortment of goods. Its always busy. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of everyday life in this Gem of the Caribbean, located on the North East Coast of South America in Georgetown, Guyana 🇬🇾, a former British and Dutch colony. Rich in oil, natural gas, gold, diamonds and other precious gem stones, bauxite, sugar, rice, and lots of coconut groves. Try the mangoes. Drink coconut water. You must try the Bangs Mary and Hassa fish dishes. Demico icecream. Walk on the seawall that faces the Atlantic Ocean. Listen to the litling sounds of Guyanese Creolese. Take a boat ride to Essequibo, The Princess County, or a minibus to Berbice County famous for its horse races. Go to Ogle Airport and take a small plane into Guyanas Interior on the cusp of the Amazon. Visit the infamous Kaiteur Falls. Enjoy your vacation in the eco-friendly 83,000 square miles of tropical delights. Want to travel? Think, Guyana. Her friendly people are wairing to extend their hospitality. A big shout out to Windjammer Hotel in Kitty. Great respite. Friendly staff. Delicious Guyanese food. 1 block away from the seawall. Enjoy.
Awesome place, very busy lots of bargains, shopping and a great place to walk around and enjoy all the architectural eye candy!!!
Great example of Guyanese culture... on that note, its very disorganized and a bit overwhelming with all the cars navigating at various speeds in between all of the pedestrian traffic. If youre just browsing for fun, you will have a great time. If youre looking for something specific, finding it may be a challenge; unless youre a local who is quite familiar with where to find what youre looking for.
Great local market to buy and just look, people watch, and catch a photo. Very colorful.
Be careful. Too many scammers trying to pick pocket and sell fake gold. People follow you. Not enough police presence to make a foreigner feel safe.
For fresh fruits and vegetables 24 × 7 Stabroek market is the place . During normal operating times 7AM-5:30pm Mon-Sat you can get fresh caught fish and a variety of meats and dairy products .
Its really a large market tout visit. In 1842, the Georgetown Town Council designated the current location of the market on Water Street, officially recognizing it as a market despite the fact that it had served such a capacity for quite some time. The market was designed and constructed by the Edgemoor Iron Company of Delaware, USA over the period 1880-1881. Construction of the iron and steelstructure was completed in 1881 and may be the oldest structure still in use in the city. Designed by an American engineer Nathaniel McKay, this market houses a wide variety of items for sale. The market covers an area of about 80,000 square feet (7,000 m2).
I love L. Seepersaud Maraj & Sons (since 1935💕
Fresh fruits and vegetables always. Different varieties of things you can buy here. They sell everything and good price.
Its a very busy market where you can get anything from local tasty delights from the snackettes to jewerly, clothing, leather handmade sandals etc.
Stabroek market brings to life what the Guyanese culture is and has been about. I believe, however, that the market is a bit overcrowded and need renovations or upgrading. The market can be upgraded and still maintain the cultural relevance and integrity. Its a place where you can find a bit of everything. Overall is an alright place.
Wow. It was an experience like none other. The smell of raw rotten meat as you enter is just 😖😖. Otherwise good place to find bargains. Very popular with the locals. Everything from art and craft to jewellery to electronics sold here.
Its a great location to get a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Theres also a section of the market that has clothing, shoes, household items and so much more. Its a one stop location where you can find just about anything. The location is also in close proximity to public transportation via roadway or water because the Parika boat stelling is located behind the market. In general its a fun location to visit.
The market smells funky in different sections, especially where the meats are sold. Its crowded and not well lit. But theres a great variety of things sold in the market. All the food items you can think of, clothing, jewelry, shoes, accessories, household items etc.
One of the older sites you must visit if you are coming to Guyana for the first time. This market is always busy and has a sense of history attached to it. If you are coming walk light and in a small group of 2-3.
One of the must sees in Georgetown, this busy market will keep you occupied for a while. Youll find a bit of everything here, and plenty of cheap restaurants around the area as well. Be careful in this area by night, other than that its a very interesting place to visit, to get to know the people and the produce of Guyana more.
