Gothic resting place of saints including Vitus, Wenceslas & Adalbert as well as the state treasury.
St. Vitus Cathedral in Benešov
Description
Stunning cathedral, Gothic but there is a mixture of architecture styles. Learned that it was only completed recently, taking 600 years to complete, you can see more modern engravings on the front of the cathedral. Inside it is spectacular. The stained glass is modern but breathtaking.
MoreI cant really describe it. Its gorgeous. All the rose windows were a kaleidoscopic mix of colors and representations. You cant go to Prague and not visit it .
MoreOutstanding building. So much detail, enormous structure. Very impressive must see Ive not seen anything like it. Security check you ad you gobin I didnt by any tickets and feel I saw what I needed to.
MoreI didnt know that prague castle is also known as St. Vitus Cathedral, but I must say its an engineering marvel. Its a must visit place in Prague, you will find the greatness of europe architecture here. Theres no entry fees here. You will get top view of Prague city from this castle. There are couple of museums also in the cathedral. You can visit them also. The best time to visit is summers.
MoreImpressive and very beautiful, it took 600 years to complete the cathedral. Unfortunately the entry is not free , for 250 króna/ 11 euro you get to see 2 churches and a few rooms of an old Palace. Toilet has to be paid extra. But still a nice place to see.
MoreBeautiful cathedral outside and inside. There are large windows with colored stained glass and sculptures. You can visit inside for free, but if you want a walk through the whole cathedral and to climb on top for a nice panoramic view, youll have to buy tickets.
MoreThe old Cathedral is beautiful from the inside with all the stained glass, statues and wall paintings. A truely mesmerizing experience.Definitley get a ticket to go up in the tower as well for its amazing view, do be warned of the 286 steps it takes to get up there. It was quite the climb and a huge step up from the powder tower.
MoreAmazing architecture. Definitely worth going to see if youre visiting Prague. Its free to walk around the Castle grounds.
MoreAn amazing cathedral with a gorgeous facade and architecture. The inside is breathtaking with its colorful windows, statues and the sheer magnitude.I strongly suggest buying tickets in advance and coming early.
MoreBeautiful cathedral inside the Prague Castle. Part of it (closer to the entry doorcan be viewed for free, but the rest of it will require one ticket to visit the Prague Castle. The ticket itself costs around £ 10, and include other places within the castle complex. It is very beautiful, but queues in the paid area can be quite substantial.
MoreFairly good cathedral, sadly part of it was under construction.I love all cathedrals but this wasnt as ornate as some throughout Europe - England, Belgium, Poland, Netherlands, Germany and other churches in Prague do top it. Nonetheless it was beautiful, especially from the outside, just as any other cathedral.Doing the tower too is definitely worthwhile! Its expensive considering its only one thing, but the view is unreal.
MoreInside the grounds of Prague Castle and towering over the city this cathedral is impressive in many ways.Like a lot of Prague castle you can visit and even go inside without paying. However if you want to do more than just stand near the door and marvel at the architecture there is a charge. Buy the ticket in advance and you may as well get the ticket for entry to the other closed parts of the castle. For me the highlight was the stained glass windows, but then I love large scale stained glass at any time. A lot of the stained glass actually looks quite modern. The cathedral has had parts refurbished and updated. However, the impressive gothic structure remains at the core of the building and the massive stained glass windows cast ethereal colours on a bright day. Finally, whether you pay or not dont miss the statue of St George outside the cathedral. Good place for photos with the cathedral in the background.
MoreThis is a beautiful cathedral that is well worth the time to visit. It is the largest church in Prague and is located in the Prague Castle Complex. St. Vitus Cathedral was used for the coronation of kings and queens. Many notables are buried here. The is a private covered walkway from the royal quarters to the royal seating area high in the right front side of the cathedral.
MoreOnce youve been to a couple of cathedrals youve sort of been to them all. Always good if youve got a couple of hours to kill but nothing to shout about. Probably a better experience if youre religious but nonetheless, if youre a fan of impressive architecture and old stuff, this place is for you.
MoreVery impressive gothic cathedral set in the centre of Prague castle ,lots to see inside of interest especially if you like religion unfortunately some work was taking place inside so one side of the cathedral was inaccessible but still awe inspiring,if you want yo access the tower you will need another ticket & the walk up the 259 steps is not for the faint of heart as with it being a winding staircase straight up there isnt much room to pass but the view is worth the workout
MoreSt. Vitus Cathedral is the biggest and most important cathedral in the Czech republic. It has a part of it thats free to visit, and then if you want to see more, theres a ticket you have to get in order to be allowed close to the altar. You can also go up in the southern tower. There are 287 steps to the panoramic terrace, and you have 360 panoramic views of Prague from there. You can see all the Bridges on Vltava, Petrin tower and so much more. The admission ticket to the tower was 120CZK.
MoreAmazing place! The people at the desk weren’t all that helpful but there’s lots to see! The prices are mostly separate. We did the circuit and the tower and it took us 5hrs! There are also other places too.. could easily spend an entire day here! The cafe is also delicious with fancy cakes so a tad pricey but u get what u pay for I guess…
MoreSimply impressive. The scale of the cathedral is daunting (makes you feel tinyand the stained glasses are very colorful and lovely. Make sure to get the combo ticket (that includes objective "VIII" - the cathedralin order to be able to get in all the way back and not just at the entrance. It is wonderfully decorated in the back. Also, get the tower ticket (entrance to objective "X" - cathedral towerto climb the 278 steps up in a dizzying spiral staircase (with no pit stop and used for both climbing up and down the same way). It sounds horror, but you eventually make it and its definitely worth it. The view from up the tower is a worthy reward.
MoreGorgeous cathedral, clear path and walkway. Very busy inside but no extreme crowds. The place itself is magnificent and has lots of beautiful murals and paintings. With the right sunlight it looks magical and makes you feel small as a human being in a place thats been around for hundreds of years.
MoreThe Cathedral sits in the centre of the Castle complex and is visible from all around the area. Very beautiful outside and inside. You can enter the cathedral for free, but there is a large area accessible only by ticket. There is a separate ticket for entry to the cathedral tower. Both are worth visiting. From the tower you can have a wonderful panoramic view of the city. Keep in mind to reach the top of the tower you need to go up 287 steps. It can be a bit claustrophobic.
MoreIt is stunningly beautiful inside. Definitely pay for an audio tour or pay extra to go around the hole thing. Its free to step in the entry way, but costs extra to walk around. I recommend the audio tour as you got to learn more about what you were looking at. The audio tour can be bought at the information offices. Definitely worth seeing this place.
MoreBreathtaking stained glass that makes the room colorful. Beautiful tombs to some of the worlds most famous and prosperous religious figures and saints, decorated with silver and gold.HOWEVER, there is very little information to be read about the attractions within. There is a paragraph of information for every 3-5 attractions which leaves you wondering about the significance behind a lot.Even without a ticket you can roam around the entrance of the church, but won’t have access to around 70% of it, which mostly includes the main attractions within the church itself. Make sure to get the family pass if you can for your group, as you will save good money. Don’t purchase the ticket entrance just to go visit the church, as it is a relatively high ask and not worth it on its own, instead use it to gain entrance into the other attractions nearby. Please feel free to look at the images I attached! I hope you enjoy!
MoreVisiting Prague was one of the most memorable experiences in my life for so many reasons, but seeing this cathedral was definitely at the top of that list. It was so humbling to walk in a building that has seen so much, and the amount of detailing in the architecture left me completely speechless. Had I been given the opportunity, I could have spent all day there. Without question, this was my favorite place I visited in Prague.
MoreThe most spectacular cathedral Ive ever seen..with beautiful and vibrant stained glass windows, gorgeous sculptures, paintings, stone work, every corner of the building was ornate and detailed. It was approx £13 for one student and one adult which got entry into the two cathedrals and the castle. Definitely worth the money. I urge people to visit here if in Prague.
MoreThe grand Gothic architecture is as impressive as any other famous cathedrals in Rome. Unfortunately our tour did not include the visit to the national treasure museum with the famous Crown of Thorns. The interior with the colorful stained glass windows is as impressive as the outside. There are many murals depicting saints and angels. If you are a fan of history and architecture, be sure to visit this famous cathedral in the Prague Castle.
MoreThe chapel is definitely worth seeing, although I suspect that it will be constantly crowded, at least in the summer and on weekends (like all world-famous places). With the same ticket, you can also go to a few other places, depending on your choice. A separate ticket is required to enter the tower.
MoreAmazing place, quite crowded but really nice. I’d recommend going at the very beginning of the day, there will be less people and it’ll be more enjoyable. The entry fee is not very expensive especially if you are a student (125 Čkand 250 Čk if not a student. By paying that you get to visit the cathedral, the old royal palace, the basilica of st George and the Golden Lane. If you do not wish to pay that you can still go in the cathedral but can only access a smaller part of it.I recommend 100%
MoreAbsolutely astonishing building. The history, the architecture, the art as well as the scale of this cathedral is all on another level. I have never seen anything like it, in particular not the buildings exterior and the mosaic windows are absolutely breathtaking. Without a doubt worth a visit.
MoreSt. Vitus Cathedral is the largest and the most important temple in Prague. Apart from religious services, coronations of Czech kings and queens also took place here. The cathedral is a place of burial of several patron saints, sovereigns, noblemen and archbishops. This cathedral is a prominent example of Gothic architecture, and is the largest and most important church in the country. Located within Prague Castle and containing the tombs of many Bohemian kings, and Holy Roman Emperors. the cathedral is under the ownership of the Czech government as part of the Prague Castle complex.
MoreBeautiful cathedral within the walls of the Castle. You need a ticket to enter it and it also gives you access to other components of the Castle like the golden lane and st. George basílica. Be there early in the morning to avoid crowds of people moving as herds behind a tour guide.
MoreOne of my favorite places. It is stunningly beautiful, the whole structure has a lot of details to look at, just take your time to explore. You can get inside St.Vitus cathedral for free but i suggest paying for an excursion - it is worth it. And be sure to climb those 295 stairs on top the tower!
MoreBeautiful place. Large area with parks and views where you can easily spend several hours. Entry is free, there is only a security check post. Note that there is plenty of hill climbing involved. The cathedral itself looks like other large churches from the inside but it is nice. Unfortunately 99% tourists, not much actual use from what I could see.
MoreIn my opinion, this Cathedral’s exterior is the most beautiful in the world. And the interior is gorgeous as well. Well worth the price of a ticket and possible wait in line. I would recommend buying an audio player beforehand so you know what you’re looking at and can learn more!
MoreIn my opinion this is best place to see Prague. Charles bridge arguably could compete with it. The architecture and size is surreal. You could literally lie down and keep on admiring the beauty and the mangnificence of this building
MoreA beautiful place, its a must to visit if you travel to Prague. The cathedral and churches/buildings around are so nice. The view from the Royal gardens is wow.I recommend them. ☺️
MoreThe cathedral is situated on the castle hill Hradczany. It is one of the most eye catching buildings on the Prague panorama. It was built for over 600 years. You can see the parts that are older and parts that are newer, as the cathedral is built from sandstone which collects dust over time. The top of the main tower has an unmatching style, which is also very interesting and shows how over centuries the building styles changed. I really recommend to visit this cathedral. I also recommend climbing the tower as the views are great.
MoreOne of the most beautiful and historic architectural masterpieces in Prague. A must visit for all tourists ♥️ its like a whole upper city near this Cathedral
MoreBeautiful cathedral with colourful stained windows depicting religious scenes. You can enter the church for free, but you can only see a small part from the entrance. In order to see the rest you have to get a ticket (general access ticked for the castle complex). You can also find beautiful sculptures from varied materials and a some information about the church.I would definitely recommend to visit the cathedral!
MoreLovely cathedral, went inside but didnt pay for the guided tour. Beautiful stained glass windows. Walked around the castle and the grounds. Great views of Prague.
MoreI love this place. Its gorgeous! The cathedral is massive and breathtaking... the view from the city is also something wonderful. Its always crowded so I recommend going there early, so you can try to enjoy it with a little bit of peace. You shouldnt leave Prague without visiting this place.
MoreVery beautiful old Prague castle, you will see the complete history of Prague and their people inside the Castle. From outside the castle you can see the complete city view whoch is very beautiful. All houses have same red color ceilings.
MoreReally nice cathedral. In my opinion the best thing you can see in Prague Castle. If you are not so interested dont buy the ticket, since with a free admission you can see the interior but not so much the details
MoreThe Architecture of the Cathedral is just amazing was in Aw while watching it. The view from the top is really amazing, but need to put some effort while going to the top 😅😅. The end result was fruitful though 😜. We need to buy a ticket if you want to explore more inside.
MoreAMAZING. make sure you get your ticket before you go in, as you cant go far without it. The opulence and sheer magnitude of this structure is boggling. There are so many features, it just keeps on going. For the historically-minded, there is an audio tour that you would love. Check the people at the entrance. The stained glass is ridiculous in scope, the accoutrement as you travel around the structure is almost embarrassing when one thinks of what it took to make that and the need that people had as well. True to gothic architecture the lines draw your eyes heavenward--waaayyy up. Seriously just go.
MoreBeautiful building, Ive visited the entire cathedral before which is chargeable, but went in separately last week to see the nave and theres no ticket needed for that. Plenty of informational boards throughout and plenty to see.
MoreOverall its worth seeing, but its open till 12am.Inside you can admire huge stained glass. You can also buy ticket for South Tower of the Cathedral, which costs 80CZK for students, but you have to know that there is no elevator, youd have to climb stairs, but the view is magnificent.
MoreThe most beautiful place in Prague. The Cathedral is the first thing you see when you visit the Prague Castle. Make sure you buy tickets online. They have the tickets at visitor centre but you can skip the wait if booked online. Most of the places to visit are covered in that ticket. A must must visit when in Prague. It’s a fascinating Renaissance- Baroque Architecture marvel.!
MoreThis cathedral is inside of the fortress complex. You can enter without a ticket but you cannot visit it fully. In front of the cathedral there is information office where you buy tickets, pricelist do you have online and they are reduced prices for students. Ticket includes Visit of four objects The cathedral of Saint Vito‘s, the Royal Palace, the Golden Street and one more church. You should take a good look at working hours because during the Pray you cannot walk through the church and if you enter during it you have to stay inside until it ends. Separate ticket you must buy is for the bell tower which is also a beautiful view Place.
MoreAnother beautiful European cathedral. Went with a tour guide who pointed out the history of the stained glass windows and additional entertaining context that I would not have gotten on my own. One was the story behind the depiction of a person holding a pretzel on the lower right.
MoreSt. Vitus Cathedral is in my opinion one of the most gorgeous Cathedral around the world. Hardly to find a word to describe the impression I always have when enter into this Cathedral which is huge inside and that you can walk half hour there or spend an hour there. This means I recommend to purchase ticket get in. Not only visit the Cathedral from the entry hall of the Cathedral, but take a walk and gain most of this beautiful Cathedral which is also nice to see outside. This Cathedral is large and siting in the Prague Castle Court rooms, and because the size of Cathedral is cross all patios of the Prague Castle. Particularly from courtroom three (patio 3is nice view same as from the High from the Great south tower.
