St. Sophia's Cathedral in Kiev

Most valuable part is the bell tower, when u on top could really enjoy the view. Also the main church is worth to visit. And others just so so.

Big complex of churches and museums with a panoramic view on a square. Highly recommend to visit the Bell tower (75m high), which is right on the main enter. It’ll cost 60 UAH and it’ll definitely worth it

Lovely to walk around the grounds and appreciate the architecture. We only bought the entrance ticket and so didnt have access to the buildings.

It has a breathtaking structure. Those who want to climb the bell tower will experience the feeling of height after the first floor. Theres enough space upstairs on the first floor. The view is spectacular especially in the evenings and cristmas time. The cathedral is one of the oldest and best examples. Mysterious architecture is a marvel. It is already under UNESCO protection. Narrow doors, arched passages, wall frescoes take you on a journey through time.

The visit of the cathedral was a nice experience. We were a but disappointed by the side buildings / museum which didnt add too much value to the day (but are very cheap to accessbut entering the main cathedrale Sainte-Sophia and going on top of the entrance tower was a wonderful experience. The inside of cathedrale is very rich in decoration and the view from the bell is astonishing.

Great experience with climbing the top of bell tower (highly recommendedas you will be able to catch marvelous views on cathedral and Kyiv itself. There are restoration works going on the territory but you can have access to the main buildings.

Come here to experience Byzantine Architecture and some history. Note that you are looking at a mishmash of time periods and styles in one “frame”. The faded and stylish drawings are the originals, the simpler style ones are much more recent renovation efforts. The QR codes directing to an online guide are helpful. Go upstairs to see an original, vivid old-style mosaic taken from another church before it was demolished. Visit the balcony and gaze down on the first floor, as the royals did at this very spot some 1000 years ago.

All Kiev itself speaks for the people of this country - you can see their devotion and love for their God and religion. Architecture is their primary language, a beautiful one indeed! To see this thousand year old church and to learn about their millennial city organizing skills makes us, 21st century mortals wonder, how we will be present in the life of those people in a short 100 year from now? The Cathedral and the surroundings are beautiful, worth to immerse yourself to the atmosphere even for a short time!

Simply stunning. One of the most impressive orthodox churches in the world. It brings you to XI century.

Just one of the amazing buildings within the monastery complex. Dont be fooled into thinking that you have seen one orthodox church, and you have seen them all.

Our visit to St Sophia Cathedral was extremely soured by this rude doorman. The cashier who sold us tickets didn’t provide any explanation of what each fee included, so we had no way of knowing that our “bell tower ticket” actually didn’t include a simple admission to the grounds. When we asked the doorman about this, he waved at us and then started lashing out at us, as if we were super dumb to ask a simple question. Is it so much to ask for someone to give a simple and calm explanation of what we are paying for? Ukrainian customer service has not yet made it out of the 90s, unfortunately.

This cathedral is really impressive. You cant expect about it height, so colossal. It is located in a huge square, where old people fought a very important civil war, then it is a very important point of interest.The architecture looks astonishining, gold details, light blue and white walls.. really particular. You have to visit it once in your life.

I travel a lot so Ive seen many beautiful cathedrals. But still St. Sofia impressed me to the bottom of my heart. Amazing antient place with gorgeous wall-paintings.

Differently from the church of Saint Andrews, in Andreevski Descent, this is a real cathedral. Founded in 1037 (and finished 20 years later), it was the first Ukrainian site included in the Unesco World Heritage List since 1990 and it is, of course, one of Kievs main touristic attractions.

This Vithantin Cathedral was built in 1036 by the Prince Yaroslav the Great. If you are interested in a history you are most welcomed to this place!

Visited during winter 2020.Tickets include 3 different musuems. Best to buy the tickets that include the golden gate as well for full value.Beautiful structure, friendly staff who speak English and happy to explain the history of the place. Must visit when in kyiv.

I headed over to St. Sophia’s Cathedral, which was massive and enchanting, but also super dark, cold and fascinating. The nuns were everywhere to be found and the big entrance was really lovely, but the star of the show is the giant egg display upstairs. It’s a 15,000 painted egg mosaic made in about 10 years ago. The coolest part was that the artist enlisted the help of schoolchildren in order to paint all the eggs needed for the project.

Calm and nice place, where you can relax and enjoy the silence. Also there are one of the most beautiful view of the city from the Bell tower.

Imponent and majestic, this cathedral is located on the top of a hill meaning you can see it from several different spots in Kiev. Its a very cool looking building that only gets more grand as you approach it. I am unsure if women can enter the church without covering their heads ( its religion but worth a shot.

Aside from its importance to the Slavic people as an early Orthodox cathedral, this beautiful church is adorned with many frescoes and gardens and even as an irreligious Englishman I strongly recommend an hour or so of your time to visit. However the pricing situation for tickets upon entry, although cheap is confusing and strictly enforced by babushki.

Amazing cathedral, its even more beautiful when seen from the bell tower. this make climbing the wooden steps of bell tower, worth it. Architectural beauty from inside out. the paintings depicted on the walls are something to be mesmerized with. the atmosphere is so clam, its wonderful to be there. The entrance is chargeable given it also attracts tourists, the fee is nominal at 60 UAH. have cafe and washrooms inside with beautiful garden. can spend hours if one wishes to.

Probably the most iconic building in Kyiv I would guess. There is a bunch of different ticket options for different museums within the complex. I just bought a ticket to go inside the cathedral and along with the gardens it is 100. A lot of cathedrals in Eastern I found impressive but outside but not on inside but this impressive in both. There is a ton of history and they have a display with what it looked like when it was built and now.If you are to go into 1 religious building in Kyiv this is the one.

Beautiful historical church and a UNESCO heritage site. Also make sure to climb up the bell tower for amazing views of the St Sophia as well as the square below and the St Michael monastery at a distance.

Thats very ancient place, but not so big. About forty minutes was enough for us to see all. The best place its the belfry. You can buy a separate ticket.

Make sure to take the guided tour ! They offer English toust and theres so much more to learn then just looking around on your own!

Well, what can I say? St. Sophias cathedral and Kyiv in general really are beautiful places! The architecture at points can be beyond my imagination and the lookout observation tower helps achieve some fantastic views! Just a 5 minute walk from Independence Square it is a must! Have you really come to Kyiv ... Without visiting St. Sophias Cathedral? One note I must add, is such that St. Andrews cathedral just facing St. Sophias is equally beautiful but completely free! 🙌 I use Instagram @jakestravellife

Bought the ticket as a combination entrance with the golden gate. The cathedral is stunning inside and out and if you take time to read the information really interesting. Beautiful grounds and the smell from the blossom was beautiful. Visited in May.

This should be in the must see list for all tourists visiting Kyiv because they have to know the old history of the region going back to times of Byzantine empire. There are guides for foreign language speakers, so one can easily enjoy the storytelling. Tickets are so cheap that even if something is uncomfortable, nobody will say its not worth it - on the opposite, its a must-see place. If not prepared, on the entrance ask for the tickets to see the main building. Stuff is very friendly to explain the difference.

Beautiful, well-maintained, solemn, well-secured, in the city center, a Unesco heritage. Really worth the visit.

Leave UNESCO heritage Museum is the first and the most important place for you to visit. There are different levels of tickets but if you only want to see the church It is only 40 Ukraine grivna per adult.

Cost is 100 griven to visit the church. To see only place around it costs 20 griven. I totally recommend to go inside to see how beautiful it is. Sophia is absolutely marvelous. There are graves of famous people inside, paintings by Vrubel, beautiful mosaics and much more. There are several interesting exhibitions on second floor. It is probably the most interesting place in Kiev to see.

Beautiful, beautiful cathedral. Walking around the grounds was fun. Our favorite part was going up the bell tower at the entrance. The feel was 20 greevna to go up the bell tower, and 10 greevna to enter the grounds. You can also pay more to get into the museums that they have, but we just didnt have time.The bell tower is quite high, and we were a bit tired by the time we got to the top (the stairs are steep), but the views from the top were certainly worth it.

Visit during the new year. Great place, live music, the street dress colors, a lot of crowd. Places to get gift and authentic food. At night live concerts

The cathedral was erected on the highest top of Kiev.The cathedral was the center of socio-political and cultural life.The cathedral is never completely destroyed.Be sure to go inside. Inside, its very beautiful and you can climb to the top. Exelent view!!!

What an historic and sacred place... one of the greatest historical monuments in the word .. the inside of the church is restored and protected as hundreds if years ago .. also the remains of tomb of the king and all other things and the bell and museum and bread factory and all are very interesting

One of my favorite places to take tourists during my Awesome Kyiv walking tours. Everybody is always in love with the place. Also try to see cathedral not only from the Sophia square but from other more hidden streets.
