St. James's Gate - Irish pub in Amsterdam, Netherlands
I really liked the vibe of this place. The service was great and everything tasted wonderful.
Vikram the waiter extremely helpful and friendly! We are both welsh and wanted gin and lemonade and understood what we wanted and served us a really night drink! Definitely recommended this place for a welcoming service and the food was also delicious to top it off !!!
For drinks, this place is fine. For soccer fans, this is a bar that actually plays the sound of the game unlike nearby bars that show games but have music on. There are 2 big screens which played 2 different games and 2 small screens that were playing a 3rd games. However, their cottage pie was so bland. And they charge more than I have ever been charged for one and didn’t have a side of anything, like fries. We wanted to order more food but since the pie wasn’t any good, we weren’t going to risk being disappointed by anything else.
If youre in the are this is a good spot for a quick bite.
My favourite restaurant/pub in Amsterdam city.Staff is always very friendly. Food is very tasty, can recommend you Amsterdam plater, burgers and spicy wedges with sauce. For the drinks you don’t have to wait even 1 minute. For sure will visit soon :)
we had to wait to get the menu, to order, to be served and to pay. shortage of staff maybe.
Great service and very good food.
Really good vibes and a great atmosphere, theres tents and heaters
the very nice waiter defended the terrace from a crazy man who 2 minutes later attacked the police, bravo to him for his courage and for his work he always has a smile
Always reliable food and drinks and a fantastic spot to watch people around Rembrandt Square.
Its OK but a lor better bars in Amsterdam if I wanted a Irish bar I go Dublin
After a shaky start with an Irish "waiter" yesterday (we left after him swearing at uswe ventured back here for a few pints before going for food elsewhere. The price of a pint of cider is nothing short of daylight robbery at €8.80!!If you want abuse and a lighter wallet then by all means fill your boots. Not recommended!
Nice sitting there watching the world go by enjoying a nice cold beer
Great friendly atmosphere. Very cosy. The burger was ok. Very basic.
Great Irish pub in the heart of Rembrandt Square, top staff and the owner, Maarten, is usually around making everyone feel at home and the dogs never go without treats and a fresh bowl of water 💦
Long time before we could order. Very expensive. Heineken bottle 6 euro.
Staff couldnt do enough for us ,been helpful with directions , promptly with food and drink....
Great bar to eat & drink.Great service. The area is nice (Rembrandt squarewith lots of people going by.The prices are a bit high but on the other hand its almost everywhere like that in Amsterdam
Usually I like this place but you charged me too much even though I already had to correct the order while it was being prepared. Cant prove anything now of course but feel screwed, be careful!
Chicken Burger too Spicy..overcooked fish and chips...rude manager not willing to admit the veracity of the complaint or even listen to what the customer had to say...no respect for customers and surely not customer minded..excellent service to mention for the waitresses....
Great staff. Fabulous location. Great selection of foods and drinks.
Ordered Guineas IPA. Don’t do that here. It’s very ‘buttery’ which is a sign of non-cleaned beer lines. Staff questioned whether we ever had IPA before, and did not want to come up with something else.
Food and drinks were really good. The cocktail selection was very small and they didnt even have the 5 options available, yet the o es we ordered were pretty good. The service was great as well. We sat outside and my only complaint was the amount of people smoking (its not the restaurant fault but the city though)
St Jamess Gate had a good friendly atmosphere, very pleasant staff. The food was acceptable and priced competitively. Not sure about the "Irish themed bar" being from Ireland, I didnt get that vib but very nice place all the same.
If I could give less than a star I would.Got a pint which was ok.Noticed the glass was chipped, brought it to the bar and the barman gave no apology, poured my beer into a warm glass which I discovered when I returned to my seat had another chip.Went there for a taste of home on my break, left with a bad taste in my mouth about how Irish bars are run in Amsterdam.Avoid at all costs.
Bar staff had outstanding banter. Food was decent. Drinks were wet. Good stuff.
Great little spot, have a few pleasant drinks here after a concert and the girl was extremely nice and just lovely. Thanks 😊
Very warm and efficient staff!Superb owner, easy to talk to makes you feel he has unlimited time, however the man is totally dedicated and shares long hours with his staff 👍 .
Staff very friendly and accommodating. The food was tasty
Food was delicious, beer choice desired to be better. I would love to see more local beers, craft.
A great lively place on Rembrant Square, the perfect place to sit and enjoy the hussle and bussle whilst having a drink!
Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Loved the wings but the sampler was a bit skimpy for 18 Euro
It has the famous Guinness Beer and streams important sports games. Watched the Madrid - City leg 1 here.Usually very crowded over weekends.
shortchanged! they gave the wrong change, they said that I gave 10 euros and not 50. when I asked for proof, they said that they would look at the cameras. they returned 20 minutes later, they said that I was wrong, but they refused to show the video or at least a screenshot. the waiter who served me started yelling at me and told me to come tomorrow.
nice pub with friendly staff, big variety of beer, fine food and snacks; many seats outside at the nice Rembrandt Plain
Lass here was working alone & still served us with an ample brek in good time. Breakfast was well cooked & the seating area was well located for all your shopping requirements. Great exprience 👍
Horrible customer service. They didnt want to give us a table if we dont eat and made us all squish together. Not friendly at all. Went to another bar right away and they helped us get tables for everyone. Thats how it should be done...
If you are in need of proper Irish bar, look no further.
Guinness mixed with water, not drafted the right way, in plastic cups for €8.60 each and you dare to call yourself an Irish pub. Avoid this place..
Fantastic pub in the middle of Amsterdam! Spend last weekend in this beautiful city and both days I visited this pub. Luckily they had the Liverpool game on! Service amazing, staff super friendly (Especially the Frank De Boer lookalike managerand very welcoming! Excellent selections of beers too! If you are in Amsterdam, I highly recommend paying this place a visit! We will be back!
Really nice Irish Pub! The beer is awesome. Hop House 13 is specially good. Food is tasty and staff super friendly. I will come back soon.
Enjoyed a few pints of Guinness and had fish n chips on the terrace. Fast attentive service, the next pint was settling as I was just finishing the previous. Nice location to watch the passersby in the square. Little on the expensive side but it is Amsterdam.
Really friendly staff! (And cute! The food was really good and the waiter was so friendly! He even made me a bloody mary despite it being on the menu! 10/10 will recommend! But sadly the mens bathroom was one of the filthiest Ive seen on this trip so far...
Nice bar. Good service and location. You can just have a drink but also something to eat.
This bar is located at Rembrenatplein, one of the main squares of Amsterdam. The service in it was good and the food and the drinks was great. I suggest to visit this place and to drink Affligen Triple beer is one of the greatest Belgian beer. The time pass so fast there also i will recoment if you want to make a photo with pigons take with you a piece of bread or order potatoes to feed them.
My favorite pub in Amsterdam. They serve my favorite beer : Bavaria. The staff there are very friendly. As well as the fries there are so tasty. Its in Rembrandt Square. Exactly in the middle of the square.
Nice Irish bar , little worn inside , outside seating aplenty, and good views over Rembrant square. Table service, or you can pay and order at bar .
Perfect Irish bar. Very good beers and very good food.Friendly staff and good location in the middle of Amsterdam.Next visit yo the dam, this will be the first place we visit.Try the Irish red beer... wow.. :)
This place really stood out for me. Little extra touches like having little blankets on the back of the chairs in case I got cold, or just having incredibly attentive and personable wait staff made this place special. The food and drink was delicious (it really was some of the best curry I have ever had), and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Also, the location is absolutely perfect for people watching. You really cant go wrong here.
This is brilliant pub that offers really tasty food. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The Irish Breakfast is especially good and is big enough to share between two. The outdoor seating offers an excellent view of the square and is perfect for people watching. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
