Roman Catholic church founded in 1516, known for its red-brick Gothic facade & wooden interior.
Small and lovely gothic church. Napoleon liked it so much he was thinking about stealing it!
Heard mass in English on a Sunday morning. Really enjoyed it and the choir was extraordinary. Made my holiday whole.
This is a amazing, beautiful church, just off vilnius old town. You would struggle to find a church with such a wow factor anywhere.
Cool church, though its neighbor St Anne’s is more impressive, in my opinion. Regardless, consider it a “two-fer” & obviously visit both (you basically can’t see one without the other anyway, heh). The brick work on both is stunning, & both come alive as the sun begins to set…
Lovely building I imagine theres a lot of history to it. Well worth a visit
Outside very interesting!
The most beautiful church Ive ever seen
Great looking church with its unique character.
English mass is the best!
Must see
Stunning exterior, but very simple inside. Still if you are in Vilnius - this place is a must
The Church of St. Francis and St. Bernard (a.k.a. Bernardine Churchis a Roman Catholic Church in the Old Town of Vilnius. It is dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi and Bernardino of Siena. The red brick church built at the end of the 15th century and consecrated in 1516, it’s is an important example of Gothic architecture in Lithuania. It is both an example of lathe gothic and brick Gothic architecture styles. During the passage of time it was severely damaged, thus the current look of the church at some point was finished with baroque style details. On the inside, it’s very simple, somewhat ascetic, but beautiful nevertheless. In my humble opinion, a must visit when in Vilnius.
It nice attending Mass here today.very serene environment to pray
most beautiful church in Vilnius.
Great place
One of the oldest and most beautiful church in Vilnius. The church was built in 1490, but in 1506-1516 it was rebuilt. In 1516 the church was consecrated. The gothic polychrome frescoes are not only very beautiful but also the biggest gothic frescoes in the East and North Europe.
A very beautiful place with large history.
Beautiful church in heart of Vilnius old Town. It is led by St. Francis monks, who form quite modern church community. Great place to go for mass. Excursions also available!
Very authentic old church with wax scent and beautiful services.
To find two contrasting branches side-by-side is as splendid as it is rare
Nearly no information about anything...
Beautiful place, very photogenic. Very different from the rest of Vilnius, yet fits very well there.
The congregation is very devoted and full of love. Very warm family like atmosphere. The church itself is full of history. After renovation it will be stunning.
Beautiful architecture, very gothic. Fascinating history also, wouldnt be at the top of my list to visit but if youre in the area dont skip over it!
There was a wedding ceremony when I turned up and also another ceremony waiting outside. No door control; I didnt mean to crash the wedding. Pretty church but finding yourself at a wedding where you dont know anyone shouldnt be easy.
Just so beautiful! Worth a visit! The area is also nice , close to the river.
Beautiful church. Go for the architecture, leave for the service.
As you can see from the picture - it is really beautiful.
Very lovely facade! Inside was equally nice as well.
A beautiful monument, but not as well msintainted. The frescoes on the walls need preservation
A good photo oppertunity.
Its a beautiful Roman Catholic Church. It is nearby the Town hall square. Beautiful from outside too.
Build in the beggining of the 16th century, the Bernardine church is dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi and to St. Bernard of Siena. With mixture of Gothic, Barouq and Renaissance features, the church is a must visit touristic attraction, especially as it is important history building for town ; the church was in 16th century even integrated in city defence walls, so in these days you can still find a shooting holes in some of the church walls.Otherwise the church itself is significantly bigger than nearby St. Annes Church, but in no way so beautiful as its smaller neighbour. Stil you can find an interesting design on church outside and inside structure, while it is worth to mention that in present time (in year 2019there are restoration work in progress inside church, so you will not be able to enjoy in all what is usually offering - it will be better, and nicer, when all restoration work will finish - you can ask for guided tour, as sometimes it can be available. The church is located close to the strickt town center, so from there you can walk just for a few minutes, while parking places can be found around, in neighbourhood. Because of stairs, placed at the church entrance, the access to church is more difficult for people with disabilities, and you can not find a public toilet or cash machines close to church either - also there is no bars or restaurants in immediate vicinity of church so you have to search for those (not so faraway from church location.
something special in Vilnius. Old fashioned gothic style church
Its not a huge but its beautiful castle and surrounded by lake. Its just 30 mins from Vilnius by bus... so, it deserves to visit a few hours.
Great place, homey atmosphere, amazing home made pizza cooked in an actual firewood furnace
Nice place. Good looking and gothic outside but neglected incide
Very old place: church and monastery. Great community.
Nice and colorful architecture. Highly recommended spot while walking around Vilnius old town.
Beautiful gothic style church.
One of the most known and visited tourist destination of Vilnius for people above their 30s that have not visited Vilnius for having only a bachelor party and get wasted. It’s not the most impressive church-monastery but it offers many wonderful exhibits and vey often the central altar presents religious artworks and operates as a small discrete gallery, with different artworks at different periods/seasons. Amazing architecture which shows the authentic Lithuanian wall brick cover of building that you cannot enjoy anymore. Take the extra step and go inside since you probably will pass it many times.
Beautiful red brick church -- a good example of gothic architecture, and well worth visiting. Dont miss the inside, which features some exquisite woodwork structures around the altar and an ornate ceiling. Its easy to locate, as it is right next to St. Annes church.
One of the most impressive places in Vilno...you feel as in UK, or GE for a moment...great architecture with a deep spirit...
really grand building with a lot of intricate carved wood in its interior and a majestic exterior, open and welcoming. lots of people came to visit, not just tourists but locals coming to worship. Very quiet when we were there and inside was cool on a hot day
St Frances of Assisi sits just behind the St Anne church which is on every tourist map of the city. Both are stunning and combined is a gorgeous tableau of red brick. Inside is free and is ornate and beautiful.
Gorgeous, with a beautiful wooden interior and lovely altars. A massive hodgepodge of styles!
Wonderful place, very unique architecture perfect view at sunset.
Very beautiful church. Interior is under restoration work.
Beautiful outside but not special at all inside
Not renovated, looks bad in comparison to other churches in Vilnius.
