It is one of the oldest churches in India. Uniquely it was under the control of the Portuguese, Dutch and British at different times of its history. The whole place reeks of antiqueness and is very peaceful. The stone flooring appears to be from the earliest parts of its construction.

Built in 1503, ‘St. Francis Church’ holds the status of being the oldest European church in India. One of the most historically significant places in Kerala, which once stood as a quiet spectator to the struggle of different European colonial powers in the Indian subcontinent, the church today, attracts countless visitors from across the globe. The architecture of this ancient church, though not very artistic and modern, still manages to grab all the admiration by the visitors; the stained glass windows and gorgeous porticoes flanked with stepped pinnacle just add to its old world charm. What further draws the attention of many, is its antique collection of hand-operated cloth fans that are till date, worked upon manually with ropes on either side. Besides all that, what marks for the most important highlight of this church is its association with Vasco da Gama, the first Portuguese trader and voyager who landed on the Indian soil; the church is popular as the resting ground of this famous explorer who was buried here in 1524. Even though his mortal remains were sent back to Portugal 14 years later, the burial place still attracts many curious travellers from parts of the world.
Located on Fort Kochi this ancient but still functional church is a must visit. This is probably the oldest church in India - built in 1503. It is located at walking distance from the Fort Kochi Beach and the Chinese fishing nets.
Vasco da gamas body was first buried in this church. But later it was transfered to lisben. The place he was buried is kept in the St. Francis CSI church. The church is built in years back and is remains the same old look. A very calm atmosphere is there

Historic church. Famous traveller Vasco Da Gama is laid to rest here. This parish is under the administration of Church of South India
Also known as Vasco de Gama Church, great symbol of our history. The Church is very beautiful and is made up in old style. It has European structure. Vasco de Gamas mortal remains were buried here but later were taken away by his son. Guides will describe the history or you can read yourself. Good place to visit. Visitors are not allowed during the prayer hours.
Beautiful church with huge hall for prayer. Amazing architecture skill is shown in this place. Perfect example of blending of colours in architecture can be seen in this place which creates peaceful atmosphere here. You have to maintain silence within the premises of church which was required to maintain peaceful atmosphere.
Great historic church with its ancient aesthetic architecture, and the great Vasco Da Gamas tomb inside the church. church has been designed in a different way which boost its acoustic qualities so as to make the music resonate around as we sing.
First impression would always be an Old Portuguese church unlike all other indian churches...Few amazing aspects of this church is that...it has a very old fan made of cloth has also been conserved and is still functional. The tomb stones of the Portuguese could be seen on the northern wall and that of the Dutch on the southern wall and the Gravestone of Vasco Da Gama.
The church where the remains of Vasco de Gama were first buried after being shifted to Lisbon. That is the only significance of this church, otherwise not really worth visiting.

Good old Portugese church. Located near to Fort Kochi beach and Chinese fishing nets. Nice ambience and taken care very well. Peaceful atmosphere.
One for the oldest church, built in beginning of the 16th century. The architectural brilliance radiates the exuberance of the rich European culture and the structure also stands as a testament to the European colonial struggle in the subcontinent around the same era. Signifying this, Vasco Da Gama was initially buried here, though after 14 years the body was moved to Lisbon. Tranquillity and peace of mind are the side effects of visiting this architectural marvel.

The St. Francis church, Kochi, is one among the oldest churches in India. Being constructed in around mid 16th century, the church was renovated over the years to its present form. Hence, it is part of the history and culture of Fort kochi. The ambience is fantastic and the light pouring in through the painted glass windows above the altar is a magnificent view. The tomb of Vasco da gama is also situated in this church.
A centuries old church building of historical significance. It once housed the burial site of the explorer Vasco Da Gama in 1524 before his remains were taken back to Portugal. Try and visit when there are lesser crowds, the sheer silence and stillness of the benches, walls and pulpit exuded in me a sense of calm and wonderment thinking about the old explorer.
Famous church of Fort Kochi. Grave of Vasco da Gama is inside it.
Kochi is an ancient city and the St Francis church reminds one of the Portuguese settlements of the past. Vasco De Gama is buried here. Yes, the one who discovered the sea route to India. Ancient architecture is still visible in the church.
