Imposing Gothic Revival church with a landmark spire & the graves of Mary & Percy Bysshe Shelley.
A very pretty building, both inside and outside, featuring the Shelley family crypt in the graveyard. Sadly, the inside has the depressingly familiar assortion of aggressively patronising posters and murals all over the place, known to any visitor to Anglican places of worship nowadays, especially ones of historic interest. I was especially offended to see a mural describing the Authorised Version of the Bible - still the official Bible of the C of E - as "colonial propaganda". This embarrassment at beauty is one of the reasons I left the Church, and on this occasion chose not to make a donation.
Surprisingly beautiful church right in the heart of Bournemouth. Well worth a visit if youre in the town.
The churchyard is so lovely since a lot of hardworking people have been working on cleaning and cutting and planting, its lovely to walk through now and see gravestones that have been hidden for years. Plus it seems to deter the dodgy characters now its more open. Well done to everyone involved. 👏
Too loud, especially on Sunday- a day of rest.
Beautiful church.St Peters Church is a Church of England parish church located in the centre of Bournemouth, Dorset, England. It is a Grade I listed building classed as a major parish church, and was completed in 1879 to a design by George Edmund Street as the founding mother church of Bournemouth. The building incorporates work by some of the finest Gothic Revival architects and artists, including Street, George Frederick Bodley, Ninian Comper, Arthur Blomfield and Edward Burne-Jones, with stained glass and frescoes by Clayton and Bell. The chancel has been described as one of the richest Gothic Revival interiors in England.[1] The 202-foot (62 m)-high spire is a landmark in Bournemouths centre, where it is the Town Centre Parish Church, together with the churches of St Stephen and St Augustine.
Very nice central church, quiet but having rest stop & open door. Was pleasant to view & visit
Pretty church with some interesting history, you can visit Mary Shelleys grave here. I also came here when they had the moon exhibition which was cool to look at. Nice to walk through the church grounds when going to the town centre as you avoid the roads. There is a cafe inside although I didnt go to it.... Nice 👍
Good place to walk around
Very beautiful church. A place of peace in a noisy seaside town.
Gorgeous church and churchyard. Peaceful, relaxing and prayerful. Famous as the churchyard where Mary Shelleys grave can be found.
Historic church with wonderful churchyard and graves stretching up alongside the steep path
If I’m completely honest I have only been here once to see this massive moon which was down in the Bournemouth St Peters church! The architecture is insane in the church and it is humongous inside! The staff there are all so sweet and lovely as well
A beautiful Church and a kind, caring, friendly and loving congregation. Wonderful Church services and Choir.
Just beautiful to see, and Susan Hawkers 🎺 jazz band was amazing
Went to Mary Shelleys grave and it was looking very nice ,some kind person had put flower on it
Beautiful church in heart of Bournemouth. Many activities. We went to 2 very different concerts
The best church in DorsetFriendly people
Good service with relevant content. The rector seems quite a live wire. Typical slightly reserved Anglican congregation. But, to be fair, I didnt stay for coffee. They would probably have been more forthcoming if I had. The church is beautiful.
Came here at the model of the moon was on display. The moon itself was pretty cool but the church is a piece of amazing architecture. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area, and I believe Mary Shelly is buried in the ground also if you are in to that sort of history. Local parking nearby and not far away from the centre of town or the beach.
Different, went there to see the Mary Shelly grave. Huge graveyard for a church set in s woodland
Bournemouth town centre, mary shelley grave, if like Frankenstein is nice to check
Lovely church full of history with cafe. Friendly atmosphere all around.
Walked past, amazing what people were obsessed with just a few decades ago, purpose, were missing it.
Beautiful place with interesting events
Stunning.Has to be one of the most beautiful churches I have ever visited.Great art work inside.Sit, be still and notice how calming it all is.
Quaint with impressive gothic architecture. Would definitely put it down as a must-visit if youre in Bournemouth.
In the town centre. Friendly church, always there to help the community & homeless.Had the Moon visit them! Was magnificent! A clever man gave a talk about the Moon & answered questions.Parishioners serve tea & cake for a reasonable cost
Beautiful church which housed model of the moon.
St Peters is a lively space in central Bournemouth. Always supportive of the arts, music and welcomes many people every year. Always a main feature of Bournemouth Arts By The Sea in the autumn.
Dorset Moon exhibition excellent
Beautiful old church and friendly people there.
Amazing art installation today, with a Nasa lecture #dorsetmoon
Amazing
Amazing, almost like a little cathedral. Long may it stay open.
Just amazing! The history of this Church! Beautiful architecture and awe inspiring grounds!
Lovely big Church and sometimes you find gathering for free tea & coffee.
We came here to visit Mary Shelly’s gravesite and were a little disappointed. The church is really beautiful but the cemetery is a little run down. A good stop if you’re close by but not super worthwhile if it’s a big detour.
This is a really nice church they have regular concerts in the week on an afternoon which are great, plus there is a good coffee shop in side.
Very nice place. Especially in the evening
Visited the grave of Mary Shelley, author of Frankinstein. Interesting
Grand and blessed🙌🏻 highly recommended if youre visiting the town.
Mary Shelleys tomb - otherwise known as Mary Wollstonecraft - read the story about how the book became written. Fascinating!
It’s an elegant Parish church.Feeling blessed
Interesting church with great decoration about the knave. Mary Shelleys grave is in the grave yard
Nice church and there is a cafe inside it.
Beautiful original mural in fresco style ca. 1900 not sure who the artist is though.
Called localy Mary Shelley Church is sort of highligit in Bournemouth and all this mystery story plus tomb of the author on cemetery grounds makes a thrill, especially when U go there after dark. Besides that nothing special of architectural point
Beautiful church I visit for Sunday services when I am in bournemouth
Beautiful church.
Lovely place in the heart of Bournemouth. The resting place for a number of known figures like Mary Shelley and her family. Only downside is there is often rubbish left around the grounds.
