St Michael 6003 - Modern Australian restaurant in Perth, Australia
I used to dine here when it was known as Jacksons with Neil Jackson in the kitchen and Anne-Marie Banting running front of house. Ive also been a fan of chef Gwanael Lesle and have followed him from restaurant to restaurant since I first met him when he was running the kitchen at Dear Friends in Caversham nearly 30 years ago. At a chance meeting a couple of months ago I met Gwanael who told me he was starting work at St Michaels and I said I would pop in for a meal soon.
Went here for a surprise birthday and had the special they had on at the time thru entertainment values..we were all looked after very well, front walking in to leaving. Service was excellent and food was cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend St Michael 6003 to anyone looking for a special occasion dinner or just a perfect night out.
This place is permanently closed and building is for lease. Have suggested Google update this listing.
Im not sure who is marking this degustation down, but it is most outstanding in both food & service.Comparable if not far surpassing Ezard @ Levantine Hill in the Yarra Valley.Compliments to both Frank (Mâitre ďand Head chef Kyra. This is a must dining experience if in Perth! We shall be back!
Friendly service, ok setting and food, but for what it is trying to be, it did quiet work for me. Strangely flat flavours. Somewhat dated Must would have been better, and “Le Rebelle” is the blade to go in this part of the town.
Very lovely dining experience! I went for a friends surprise birthday dinner and the food and atmosphere were fantastic! I enjoyed the 7 course degustation and the staff were quite friendly and helpful.
Good food and fantastic service!
A shining light on a struggling Beaufort St dining precinct, St Michael serves up excellent fine dining and service. While the food isnt quite up to the Petite Mort level (they are both co-owned by Todd Stuart, local god-tier chef), its still a great place to try some great flavour combinations and very well presented dishes.
The food is quite average, however the scallop was great. The decor is cheaply done, you can see that the owner has tried to scrimp and save, at every possible opportunity, making the place feel very uninspiring. There is definitely not a feel of fine dining. The staff were friendly enough.
Wonderful dinner, attentive staff, excellent experience.
Taking our time is a good thing , when it comes to a fine dining dinner experience. However when it is slow to the point that it extends to 4.5 hours + it becomes too much, despite requesting mid way for the food to be served at a faster pace. We had dinner from 7pm to after 11pm. It was a busy weekend night. The food was better than average , but unfortunately the long waits between courses, was a turn off.
Wonderful and well priced! Each course was reasonably sized and flavour matching was on point. Textures abound with colours dancing on the plate and tastes dancing in your mouth! For those in the know, they might just accept a BYO wine or two, so long as your bringing in something special!!
Ive been to many course menus and there are usually a mix of nice things and things that dont quite match our palate. St Michael 6003 provided us with a really wonderful experience and was the first time that weve actually enjoyed every food item that came out. The chefs managed to bring out the best of each ingredient. We arent big eaters, so we felt very full after the seven courses. Staff were very polite and attentive, and the setting had a relaxed sophisticated vibe to it.
Our waiter was most attentative and explained the ingredients of each dish. Our meals were well presented and very tasty. We had a very relaxed evening.
Great service and delicious food.
Beautiful food & wine, enjoyed my 3 courses it was a lovely experience
The food is really good could not fault one dish! Well done chef! However, the portion could be bigger. I just had 7 course meal and I am going home hungry. 😕 The service also could be a bit more happier. The waiter ( pretty sure was the managercould be more enthusiastic. He made me sleepy. He tried, did the right question about the meals, however seems like a robot ( asked because is he job not because he cares). This why I gave 3 stars one for the portion size and other for the service.
Fantastic dining experience. The staff and service were exceptional. They were all friendly, efficient and professional. We had the seven-course dinner and the food was amazing. Our favorite dish was the Scallop and Pigs Cheek. Highly recommended.
Great degustation experience without the usual degustation price tag. This place never fails to impress me.
7 Course DegustationThe third coarse, beautifully roasted beetroot, goats cheese ice-cream with parmesan + rocket puree. As you can see it was a really nice presentation. Who would of thought to put all these flavours together, not me but everything just worked nicely together and we both thoroughly enjoyed this dish.My wife chose for the main. A beautiful piece of Barramundi.l with great presentation and the taste was even better. I chose the Duck dish, this had lots of great flavours however it was a touch overdone. Our favorite was the Scallop, Pigs Cheek, Galangal Turmeric + spiced cucumber. This is an amazing dish with flavours bouncing all over your tongue. There was a pre-dessert and a dessert, thoroughly enjoyed both.We will be coming back.
An extraordinary dinning experience. The finess and effort to combine unique taste sensations throughout the menu meant every mouthful was a treat to behold. Will definitely be returning.
The food was disappointing to say the least. Flavours didn’t match, cheap ingredients and definitely not what you’d expect at a degustation. Would not recommend At all. Service was good.
Always love coming here for an evening out. Lovely. Great ambience, not noisy. Food was interesting without being obscure or pretentious - tired of going to places where you can’t discern or identify what it is you are eating.Beautifully presented. Would have begged for a full size as opposed to a side garnish of the citrus brûlée on my chocolate milk dessert if I had known how fabulous it was - perfect flavour texture balance.Thank you for a lovely evening people.
Excellent fine dining experience with a 7 course meal.Service from staff was amazing.
Was looking forward to their 7 course tasting, unfortunately the food was pretty average and none of the courses presented really worked in flavour or presentation. The service was attentive.
Brilliant. Amazing food and attentive friendly service.
Excellent food presentation, very creative dishes, delicious, friendly waiter, explained every dishes, good selection of wine, strongly recommended for fine dining.
We were seated in a wonderful spot, the upper level of this split level restaurant overlooking the restaurant in front, the staff were very friendly and the service was really great. The 7 course degustation menu was quite disappointing, a lot of the time the ingredients in each course didnt go together or were at time plain.
Divine dining experience!Attentive and friendly staff, a vibrant situation on a busy street into a quiet and welcoming restaurant plus of course the first class food I highly recommend this dining experience. Fabulous degustation night, thank you. Well be back.
Toast served in degustation menu , having to pour our own wine. Definitely not what it used to be. Some dishes were good
The food was really disappointing--not the service that was fine everyone worked hard to please. You dont compensate with nice presentation either---you know what that say about a silk purse from a sows ear. The duck was three small pieces of very tough meat that frankly was indistinguishable from beef. Poor value. That was our first time but I wouldnt go back.
Stumbled upon this place by accident. WOW! What a find. Fantastic food (we had the 7 course degustationwith really attentive service. And the fact that the restaurant is BYO wine ($10 corkageand has comfy chairs and carpet flooring which helps it to be quiet is great too.
Great food and a good wine selection supported by professional service. Its good to be served by people who know what they are doing.
Great service and great food. Made our anniversary special :)
We dined here for a birthday celebration and it was delightful. We dined on a Groupon vouchers, it included the 7 course degustation and 2 glasses of wine. Every course was cooked perfectly and was well seasoned. The standout was the sous vide Margaret River wagyu rump, this course was cooked medium rare and it just melted in the mouth. Each course was perfectly timed, there was no long wait times. Would definitely be back.
Was a nice evening except for no parking nearby & if you did get desperate & park on the road the park inspectors were out in full force on a Saturday night at 8pm fining people $95 so it put a damper on what should be a good night out, 3 people from our group had to go & move our cars & park a very long way from the restaurant. Besides that the food was lovely & a nice cosy atmosphere
Great restaurant and the food is very good. The only thing they didnt receive a credit card for multiple groups.
5 star dinning,Best meal and experience ever.Thankyou St Michaels.
We did 15 years of marriage here. I’m a glutard and my wife can’t do dairy so we are great company. These guys took it in their stride, made it awesome and very memorable. I have sent many here now who have been happy.
Amazing food. Service was friendly. Lack of experienced staff meant periods of waiting for service. Overall a nice experience.
Very good selection of dishes and amazing food!
We had a special evening for my husbands 50th birthday with special friends. We had the full degustation menu and the flavour combinations along with the presentation was supurb. My husband loved it along with everyone else. High praise coming from a chef who has competed and placed at the World Culinary Olympics. Highly recommended
Great food but no cocktails
After reading the reviews and seeing the great ratings, we thought that we were onto a sure fire winner. We sat down to the 7 course meal and started with a great wine recommendation. The food came quickly thereafter and all was good. The beetroot soup in a little teacup with bread was great. The next two courses, kangaroo carpartio, scallops for my parter, while on the small side were quite good. The mushroom risotto that came next was absolutely delicious! We were happy.... until the next course......The beef that came for mains made us both want to vomit. It had layers of fat running right through it. Not a good pork belly kind of fat. More like whale blubber. My guess is that it wasnt cooked for long enough and it hadnt rendered down. Perhaps it is a delicacy cooked like that in some country, Im really not sure but it was all downhill from there. It was like the chef had stepped out of the kitchen and let pre teens prepare the rest. The cheese course was a lemon curd with blue cheese that just didnt work. When a dish is so small and you dont want to finish it but you soldier on to try and get your monies worth, wincing all the while.... thats when you know something is wrong. Then came the pre dessert. It was a 2cm square that must have been cut with a scalpel and put onto the plate with tweasers. Im really not sure what it was (cheesecake??but when something is so small, it had better explode with flavour and impress. It didnt.Dessert. No.It was supposed to be mud cake squares with a cherry sorbet and chocolate mousse. For once, a dish was almost big enough but I wished that it wasnt. In my head I imagine that the preteens forgot to put sugar into the mudcake squares which made them taste like chocolate bread. The other components tasted fine separately but when put with the bread? No. While the other dishes were all quite pretty, this dish looked like it had been thrown at the plate. Dessert made me angry. It started so well but mid way through, made us want to go to the convenience store and get a three day old sausage roll.I am all for restaurants with small dishes as long as they wow you but apart from the mushroom risotto.... no.On the ride home, I alternated laughing with No no no no and Oh, how could it be so bad?Maybe we were there on an off night but I wouldnt chance it. No.
Great food with reasonable price. Good place for birthday celebration.
Delicious creative food
Dined here with family on Saturday night. Excellent service and delicious food and I look forward to my next visit in the future :)
The degustation included many great dishes. Service was average and staff were not well informed the night we went but that might have just been unlucky. Would definitely go again.
My partner and I dined here last Friday night. The food here is of a very fine quality considering the price for a 7 course Degustation. For $89 per person, this is incredibly cheap given other Degustation options are roughly double to triple this. Despite the price point, quality was not at all compromised. The courses are very well thought out and provide a balanced and varied dinner. Execution with dishes was near perfect, technique was on point. There are clearly some talented Chefs at this establishment and it shows. The front of house staff, while very polite and welcoming could use some silver service training. Cutlery / Glasses regularly forgotten however their knowledge of what they are serving was excellent and is to be commended. All things considered this was a very positive experience and I would return.
Without doubt, if you crave a meal that will astound and amaze then you must eat at Saint Michael. Everything was delicious especially the blue cheese dessert; the flavour sensation just kept rolling through my mouth. Service matched the incredible food.
