Thought the idea of a Britalist church was contradictory... but it works! The stained glass humanized the girders and concrete. Glad I gave it a chance...

You must visit this amazing church if you’re around! Fascinating architecture with symmetrical patterns.. lovely colors of the stain glass arts. Contemporary church which you can’t see anywhere else.10 stars!

Simply stunning. Monumental and brutalist, this church is a must see on a sunny day. Not only is it a good refuge from the heat, but also you see all the colour the windows have play on the wall

Very unusual church built out of mostly concrete and glass. If it is a sunny day, the stained glass makes a beautiful job of colouring the concrete pillars. Fairly quiet when we visited on a Monday afternoon after lunch. Recommended as there cannot be too many churches that look like this!

You have to see it…From the outside it looks ugly, too tall and nothing like a church. The texture, form and colors are not matching with the idea we all have on our heads.Once inside, it is a mix of a church an official session hall and a futuristic building. The light enters through the numerous coloured crystals and makes the concrete have another vibe. It is very unique and different

Striking building built(I believe)to commemorate those who lost their lives in WW2.Its like a beacon and can been seen from the sea.

Unique circular design with a beautiful circular tower lined with stained glasses windows all the way up. Known as the English Church it has a lovely atmosphere and is well worth a visit.

Incredible modern church, it looks like a gigantic lighthouse from the outside, and is kind of a modern catedral from the inside emulating a skyscraper with concrete foundations

Stunning modern church that you can see for miles around. I popped in to escape the heat and its stunning inside. The outside and spire are illuminated at night, which is great for photo opportunities, even if only for the aesthetics if youre agnostic, atheist, Muslim, Jew, Seventh Day Adventist, Jehovahs Witnesses, Sikh, Hindu, Rastafarian, Aum Shinrikyo or any other religious persuasion.

one of the must visit place in le havre. auguste perret who built that city. his masterpiece and last stuff. the specific thing is the reversal. outside is like the concrete lighthouse. but inside is beautiful stained glass. and center of the church, the light is centered. I am very sorry with that the enterence fee is free.

Interesting to check out if your in the area. The stained glass in the steeple is pretty interesting. Since the city go mostly leveled in WW2 it is a modern architecture style so not as interesting as older cathedrals.

You feel in awe as you come through the doors, the stained glass throughout and to the top is a true sight to behold. Stunning.

Le Havre is a world Heritage site as it was rebuilt after Ww2 . Public buildings by August Perre. The cathedral in Le Havre was a mind blowing work of reinforced concrete and stained glass. Amazing architecture full of stunning ideas. A really commanding presence.

Its all about straight lines and different angles, and off course the coloured glass. To me it does not have that feeling you get when you enter into a church. It was more like a library with no books. You need to get close to the altar and look up and marvel at the angles and the different colours produced by the glass. I was lucky that the sun was shining outside, which made the glass light up inside.

It’s an interesting artifact of a time when cement and concrete were considers a stone you make as opposed to a symbol of urban sprawl. Go inside, experience the lantern and humbling elegance.Get a pastry nearby. Then go to Honfleur like everyone else.

Amazing church building not like any other type of modern type church I have seen so far. Very strong geometric concrete structure on the inside. You will find texts and images of its architect inside. The seats remind me of 1960s movie theatre seats, not the typical wood seats. As a church it comes with free entrance (donations welcome). Worth a visit as a part of the UNESCO world heritage site of the "concrete city" that it stands in.

Magnificent building, a truly beautiful Church of Le Havre. Visited Le Havre in 2017 and came across this magnificent church. It really dominates the skyline here and unmissable tower. This is a poignant memorial to civilians who died during the war. Its dedicated to Saint Joseph, the patron saint of happy death. The tower is about 107 metres in height and apparently used as a visible beacon at night when lit up. It is UNESCO listed as World Heritage Site. Absolutely

One of the worlds most stunning churches. Very hard to describe its impressiveness. Just this building alone would make a trip to Le Havre worthwhile.

Built after Ww2 between 1951 and 1958 St Joseph’s is an impressive building of modern architecture. Worth a visit when in La Harve a city that was heavily bombed during the conflict. We should never forget the sacrifice of the French people and the Allies during this dreadful period of European History. The politicians of today should remember the generation that gave their lives to unite the peoples of Europe and not be forgotten for political dogma.

It would have been blasphemy to build a church like this in the 15th century devoid of decoration, bling, and extravaganze. But you know what, maybe Catholic churches should be patterned this way. Attention of the worshiper is then focused on the altar and the Word of God.Exposed concrete and an impressive tower with intricate modern stained glass seem to work well. Almost echoes the interior simplicity of the Duomo in Florence. I dig it and hopefully more churches follow suit. I think it also fits the modern angular architecture of Le Havre.Free to get in and worth a stop in your travels through town.

Went to this beautiful church in Aug 2018, its sanctuary dedicated to Saint Joseph and also a memorial in memory of war victims. The architecture of this church is beyond words. Its one of the tallest buildings in Le Havre, France. When you enter the church the light coming through the coloured glasses near the altar will make anyone speechless.

One of the most unusual churches Ive ever seen. It is one of the highest buildings in Havre, and when I looked at it staying far from the church, I couldnt think that it is something religious. The tower is hollow inside top-to-bottom, so when you go into the church and look up, its amazing. The high tower filled up with multicolor lights from colored windows glasses. And installation inside in the center of building is very beautiful

Beautiful church. This church is one of kind masterpiece. The stained glass work is pure craftsmanship. I wish I could have attended a mass here and may try to do so on a return trip to France. You can sit in awe and pray for a long time in a peaceful beautiful church like this. Very modern Stations of the Cross, unique confessionals, and simple alter. Great displays and explanations of meanings in the back of the church. Be sure to check out the spiral staircase climbing up the central tower. I’d say the best attraction in Le Havre!
