Beautiful meal, they even gave us a starter free as we had ordered two and they only had one left. Perfect service and excellent food, so thoughtful. Well done Fergus and the team - especially all the staff themselves!

A restaurant that somehow manages to be rustic and sophisticated at once. Excellent service management complemented by a talented and experienced kitchen brigade. A no-nonsense philosophy permeates every aspect of the experience and what elegance is found in their minimalism. Great concept, perfect implementation. See you again very, very soon.

Starters were good but wouldnt get them again, apart from the liver pâté. The mains were excellent: whole crab 🦀, mutton, ham and cheese, cuttlefish. Highly recommended. The sourdough bread was perfect. Slow service with hiccups but very friendly.

As always, this casual outpost of St. John is perfect for whenever. EVERYTHING is on-point, but dont miss the Welsh Rarebit, and a glass of the house red.

We had a table booked for 8.45 which in hindsight was too late as there were many menu items that had run out. The food we had was good and the service was friendly and helpful.

Found out about St John via a YouTube blog so was excited to try.The staff were professional and friendly and took time to explain the menu.We had 2 specials from the board (welsh rarebit and braised beef and mashalong with hare and a side of greens. The food was more than enough for 2 people. The rarebit was pretty good. The braised beef and mash tasted quite ok, but it was almost too simple, as if missing something to become a complete dish. Lastly the hare meat was very tender, but the sauce was too sour for our taste and overpowered the meat. Was not a bad meal at all, but didn’t live up to the hype - and - unfortunately we got sick the next morning… Perhaps deserving of a higher rating if not for that experience

Visiting from the U.S., 4th time visiting St. Johns. A great farm to table restaurant featuring British food of the highest quality, and a great wine list (emphasizing small vineyard French Rhones). Emphasis here is all on the food, not fancy decor. Knowledgeable, friendly wait staff, and a remarkable menu that changes daily.

Updated review - As I said before I had been a fan of St John but the quality does vary, and I would advise getting there for earlier seating to avoid disappointments with running out of dishes.Recently went for dinner and very much enjoyed the meal. Specifically the duck leg which was brilliant, falling off the bone.Desserts as always the best part of St Johns very traditional, very basic, but very delicious. Looses a start due to inconsistency of quality but definitely would return again.

Like going to an early 20th century English Manor House with a good but eccentric cook. Very trad British dishes but well executed.Service and atmosphere were great.

Great meal. Highlight for me was the smoked Cods roe with egg. Salt Hake with baby gem also delicious. Great choice of wines by the glass. Buttermilk Pudding was my favourite pudding (we worked through four of them), make sure you get some freshly baked madelines too

The food was perfection on a hot summer day. Delicate white fish deeply fried. A refreshing cucumber and kohlrabi salad and some brains for the more daring in our party. Couldn’t recommend this spot enough.

Very simple yet very good British food restaurant. Restaurant itself is also very simple and rustic too. This is second location of St John I’ve visited and neither of them didn’t disappoint me. Its a place to share so good for date, group, friend and all occasions.

Classic British FoodWhile most people think of fish and chips when thinking of British food, it encompasses many more dishes of both baked, cured, and oven-varietiesSt. John’s Restaurant is often recommended as representing traditional British fare and their convenient Bread and Wine location at Spitalfields Market is an easy stop after browsing all the great market goodsThe menu changes daily and we sampled a variety of classics from braised beef and mash to a welsh rarebit and several types of cured fishThe prep here is top notch and the flavors are more diverse than the bland British food you might find at a tourist stop: worth a stop to sample real British fare📷 Smoked Cod’s Roe, Egg, and Cress £10.80 / Anchovy, Boiled Egg and Mayonnaise £11.10 / Welsh Rarebit (hot cheese sauce over toasted bread£9 / Smoked Mackerel and Pickled Cucumber £10.10 / Braised Beef and Mash £22.90 / Greens (Cabbage with salt and oil£5.60 / Bloody Mary £8.50 / Bread and Butter📍St. John Bread and Wine (London, United Kingdom)

A friend suggested this place to me and to try the Eccles cake with Lancashire cheese. I did and what a surprise. It looked a little like a cricket ball but it was literally jam packed with home-made mincemeat and had that sugary crust that paired so well with the cheese and the glass of rosé that i ordered. The restaurant wasnt that full but it seems its advisable to book a table. Service was good and friendly. What a treat!

Don’t come here expecting beautiful food… it’s quite rustic and simply plated, and in fact it was impossibly hard to take nice photos, but the food is delicious. Amazing toasts with chicken liver, and we snagged a specials of the day which was sea whelks with the most delicious herb garlic butter sauce. Found the mains to be a bit of a letdown though the little gems salad is amazing, but had the best bread and butter pudding to finish the meal perfectly. It’s served with clotted cream and a lovely caramel sauce.

Average menu with average flavours. Much better options available in the area at significantly cheaper prices.Attended on Friday evening. Poor table service with no explanation of the menu. To be honest, this place is being carried by one dish and one dish only - the bone marrow (that was not available!)

OMG. What a fantastic lunch! Everything on the menu was so flavourful. The grilled lambs offal and the cuttlefish were the two dishes that just edged it over a completely outstanding series of plates.

I just love St. Johns, the food is exquisite and the staff is simply delightful.I had the Lambs heart with radicchio and anchovy as a starter,it was tender, juicy and well-balanced. Beautiful flavours! As a main, I had the grey mullet with leeks and saffron, the fish was perfectly seasoned and the leeks were perfection.I was quite full already but I still had the blood orange and almond cake for dessert.I typically go for the double baked chocolate cake or the to die for Madeleines but the almond cake didnt disappoint. The service was top notch and as delightful as ever!Ill be back for more. Thanks! 🙏

Great food! Super lunch. We had a selection of 5 dishes and a dessert to share; possibly 4 would have been sufficient. The saddle of Rabbit and Ox Tongue were standout alongside the other wonderful dishes. The wine list matches the food in style with great pairing recommendations. The no-nonsense decoration somehow reinforces the importance of the food. You see the chefs in the kitchen calmly serving up divine dishes. The serving staff are knowledgeable and fun. There is good wheelchair access and space. Recommended.

I was told by many people that this was one of their favourite restaurants in London, but I was quite disappointed with the food. The service was great, and the wine was great! However, none of the dishes we ordered stood out, and for the bill to round up to £90 for a mediocre meal was a bit disappointing. Hopefully the dishes can improve because the restaurant itself has a nice ambience.

I loved the environment, the staff and general feel of the restaurant. We were only two and the last sitting so didnt get too much choice (they swap out dishes throughout the night). Id recommend going with at least 4 people and ordering a few bits to try as each dish has a lot of different flavours it can get a bit overwhelming

I’ve been here several times over the years and it never fails to please. The wine list is exhaustive with reasonable prices and the food is sublime. The service is attentive and the atmosphere welcoming and casual. Don’t leave without having some of the signature madeleines and grab a loaf of bread to take home. This is one of my favourite restaurants.

A sister restaurant to the famous St John Smithfield, Bread and Wine serves food in an informal canteen style dining room. The Jerusalem artichoke was pleasant and the ox heart was pretty good, special mention to the crispy thick cut chips that accompanied the ox heart. The roast saddleback was a bit of a let down, it was dry and slightly bland though the salad that accompanied it was good (the sweetness of the shallots balanced the acidity of the salad dressing nicely). Giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, the table to our left received a seemingly more appetising and juicy cut of pork so perhaps it was just our luck. The wine that was recommended by the waitress was paired nicely with the food and it seems they have quite the alcohol collection.Overall it was a plesant experience though it did not live up to the hype I gave it. Will give it another go.

Always excellent food with a relatively limited, but delicious menu. Be aware that they will only hold your table for 15 minutes, even with card details and if you phone to say you are running late as per their instructions on their website. Very popular - do book in advance.

Enjoyed my meal with my lovely friends from home.A simple and neat restaurant with no excessive decoration. The restaurant was full and it can be a bit noisy as everyone is enjoying their meal and chatting with one another.Staff is absolutely sweet and nice. You can see them wearing their smile whenever they check on you and see if everything is alright. And of course, when they serve every single dish.My favourite would be the devilled mussel. Its cooked perfectly and so fresh. We all know seafood can be tricky sometimes. To be fair all other dishes are cooked in perfect timing. See the picture of the fish its so perfect)Personally i wish the ox tongue can be cut thicker than it is now so the tenderness and flavour can be maximised. However I believe ox tongue is cooked differently in all different cultures.

We randomly found this St. John’s restaurant while walking around looking for a place to have lunch. The decoration is pretty much similar to the other St. john in Market street, and they also change the menu constantly. We ordered some appetizers (the terrine was awesomeand the smoked cod’s roe looked delicious. Confit de canard with potatoes was very good as well. We didn’t have room for desserts but they prepare (when you ordermadeleines. Staff was friendly and we were lucky to get a table without reservation, because we were told afterwards that it is usually not possible due to lack of availability.

Nice restaurant, staff, and simple, down to earth amptmosphere. The food was definitely a step outside the comfort zone for some of us. Which is why we chose to have lunch at this restaurant. We all had a nice time and definitely had our eyes opened to what "nose to tail" eating is all about.

I had devilled kidneys and a coffee for around £13. If there is a better breakfast in London I would like to hear about it. Firstly, the portion size was generous, and it was relatively cheap compared to other options of this quality in this city. Secondly, the sauce and the butter complemented the kidneys perfectly. Thirdly, the rare joy of eating fatty, meaty, rich, artery clogging food feels like a massive act of indulgence that one can only engage in occasionally. Perfect. Breakfast.

Even with all London has to offer I returned here 2 days in a row while visiting. The staff are lovely and professional. I had the fortune of trying the bacon sandwich, a doughnut and a brownie from here and each and every one was worth the price and beyond. Each is greater than the sum of its parts.Do not leave London without visiting here.

We popped in for breakfast and found the food delicious and fairly reasonably priced. (Though £3.60 for a glass of definitely not freshly squeezed, and decidedly average orange juice seemed a bit much). The bakery goods looked, and were, excellent. We took away a butterscotch doughnut and a cinnamon bun, yum!

If you like unpretentious cooking in a causal dining environment and an opportunity to try unusual cuts of meat then you cant really go wrong (also a great option if you cant get a table at its Michelin starred sister restaurant). Not cheap but, like the rest of the St John stable, still manages to stay near the front of the pack despite nose to tail eating having become part of the culinary mainstream.Been a few times and you know what to expect. Last visit took in cob nuts, crispy lambs tongues, quail with celeriac, a spectacularly good spiced pigeon stew, and a lovely treacle tart. All good, but be prepared to put a bit of effort in to carve the game birds!
