St John's Fort - Historical landmark in Batu Berendam, Malaysia
Great place for exercise!
Nice place, donβt take food with you, monkey zone π
Nothing much, good place to have a nice workout, wind is pretty cooling up here.
Came here on a weekend. Parked at the foot of the Fort and climbed the steep stairway. The area has many dogs and you need to be careful. Upon entering the Fort, you are rewarded with the breathtaking view. Definitely a defining moment for Melaka when the Dutch cannons were fired against the enemies approaching from inland. Can just imagine all 5 cannons thundering simultaneously. You need to read the background history before visiting St. Johns Fort. This will add value to your experience. Will come here again to enjoy the serenity...
This place is way off and lesser known from other major tourist attractions in Melaka. Nothing much around here but great place for uphill exercise if you are up for it. Have very limited parking spaces so park your vehicle with thoughts for others. Just below the fort, there is an old Chinese burial ground probably dating a few hundred years that the descendants may have moved off or lost with the times.
Nice quiet uncrowded spot..
Ok but get your hopes up.
This site was originally the site of a Portuguese chapel dedicated to St John. The hill earlier name was Bukit Pipit or Sparrow Hill. The Dutch built a fort between 1760-1778 to protect against Bugis attacks.
Its a small Fort so dun expect to be spending a whole day of discovering. It would have been more of a picnic place, except that its infested with anthills. So, gotta watch out for those. Views arent that great either. Trees growing from the side of the hill blocks them.
More like a local workout spot where people go for exercise walks. You can park at the foothill (very limited spotsand take a short walk up.Once you reach the fortress area, there are signages along the way that give you a brief history about the fort. The hill is now surrounded by trees and taller buildings, so there is limited view although this was once used as a hilltop lookout point to protect the city.Nothing much to see as a tourist, but lovely cooling area for jogs / walks.
well maintained and preserved place to be visited. beautiful scenery. great and unique building.
A short hike up the hill to reach the fort. Its nothing impressive but still worth visiting. Wouldnt recommend staying there for too long because of the mosquito. Free entrance.
Small fort on top of the small hill. Quick climb, faster spin around and down in a flash. Place in pretty dead except for the few people exercising up the hill
Drive in Historical Attraction, Free admission
Not busy with nice view point to melaka town.
A tiny fort but interesting views. The VOC (Dutch East Indiescannons are also a precious artefact there.
Well preserved fort with good view. Difficult for elderly to climb the stairs though.
π
Maybe go here in the morning, you will get fresh air. Theres a numbers of monkeys near the entrance, beware and dont feed them.
Its not a fort, just few metres of wall and some armour used by someone.
We love it for its historical significance and it is a lot of fun playing hide and seek around the batteries of old cannons resting at the top of the fortress.
Excellent place to bring family and kids to and learn a little more about the historical town of Malacca thats not covered in your school textbooks.Lots of little eateries nearby too which you can try. Makes for a wonderful weekend getaway aside from the more commercial side of the historic city.
Part of the historical place of Malacca but not recognize by many. The surrounding area is clean, local people joging at this area, friendly monkeys can be found.
Nice short walk to the fort.
One of the Historical Places in Melaka. Less tourist.
Nice Fort but really tiny and no much to see. There was also something like chinese rest, but there isnt nothing explain what that were
Historically Significant old fort worth visiting!
Only a hardworking cleaner when I went there. Feeling this place is suitable for morning walk but not for an attraction to visit.
Old Portuguese fort overlooking the Straits ΓΆf Malacca, & Portuguese settlement, now the view is blocked by tall buildings. Built with blocks of Malacca laterite, said with a tunnel connecting Formosa fort & St Pauls Hill. Accessible by road 3/4 of the way. Fort is armed with a few cannons
History placeCan take PhotoshopDay time visiting onlyGot old cannon
So nice view....!
Best place for light exercise...nice view n historical place.
The site is quite secluded but is well taken care of.
A very well preserved old fort
Historical site with a view of the seafront when at the peak of the hill
This is a well-preserved historical site on top of a little hill. It was a fort during Portuguese and Dutch rule. There are information board for visitors to understand more about its history. Now this is a popular place for joggers, especially in the morning and evening. There is a road leading up to the fort, with trees along the road providing canopy. You can park your car at the foothill, and walk up about 400metres to the fort, or you can drive your car up but the road is quite narrow. There are monkeys on the trees but they are friendly.
Quiet place for Sunday morning walk.
This fort was built during the Portuguese rules in Melaka. It was built to guide and protect the territory against external invasion. The Melaka was trade centre in the East Asia as it has access to the ocean, and two moonsoon. Arabia and other European pass through the then great city for trade and other commercial purposes.
Fort was build on the hilltop for the overview. There is not any view left, because of the trees all around it and the big watertower next to it. Not worth going there.
Not many tourist here which is good because the road coming up here only can accomodate 1 car both ways! Imagine 2 cars up & down at the same time. Limited parking at the foothill.
This was built with a reason. Ask the staff of the hotel near to the fort what was the reason. Hotels near to the fort are The Settlement Hotel, Temasek Hotel, Hatten Place, Double Tree By Hilton Melaka and Rosa Melaka.
Histrorical Building, Stand on the St.Paul hill, just behind the fort, can view the Strait of Malacca
Its a very small fort, but nice as hardly any tourists go there and you get a view over the surroundings, although back then there wouldnt have been trees blocking the outlook. There are also Dutch cannons still on top.
Very old fort overlooking the straits of malacca
No historical facts provided at the location but the floating restaurant is very nice
Small fort on top of this hill. People came here for evening and morning jog. There are monkeys here.
Quite place and suitable for exercise spot. Be prepared for mosquitoes in the evening.
Great place to go for a evening or morning jog with a chilling environment
Old fort on the hill of St John. Used to be a look out fort and long time ago, the sea line was much nearer to this hill. If you come by car, you can drive the car up the hill, although theres limited parking on the hill. Otherwise you will need to park down, and there is a short walk up to the hill. Afternoons will be hot. At the foot of the fort, theres a stone stairs up to the fort itself. Its a small place. Doesnt close, although, one really shouldnt come late at night. From the fort, take photos with the bronze cannons. And try to see far beyond to the seashore.
Wonderful Place!!I really like here. I could enjoy not only wonderful view but also history.
