This is a truly beautiful church inside and outside . I’ve been attending for years, lovely peaceful place to worship.
Lovely and welcoming Cathedral. Fabulous architecture
The cathedral imbibes a very solemn and prayerful atmosphere.
My dad a devout Roman Catholic would have loved this. Real special place of worship
Beautiful, peaceful, inviting and very spiritually connected.Just off the town centre. There are off street parking areas all around the Cathedral (pay and display or pay by the RingGo app)

Warm community feel with excellent music and cathedral choir. 10am Sundays
Mass was so solemn. The church itself was so nice with great architectural designs.
Great cathedral, the parking in the area is not great but cant mark down for that
St Johns Cathedral was absolutely out of this world , so beautiful, such a wonderful feeling of peace about it. Lovely.
Amazing place. Good to go and sit down to chill out. Be great if you can attend the mass...
Beautiful cathedral, even if your not very religious its worth taking a quiet seat and having a look inside at its very gothic looking ceiling and very tall pillars and some fantastic engravings. A truly amazing building.
My spiritual home when in Portsmouth. Love the Masses, the homilies, the singing and especially enjoy the sheer diversity of cultures and ages that the Cathedral attracts. Parkings good too if youre shopping!
A magnificent Catholic cathedral solid, silent and peaceful in the very heart of a busy Portsmouth. .. Its an ideal space/place to pull up lifes handbreak, to escape the madding crowd, and to reflect and rest in what is a truly beautiful and historic church.
Its peaceful and beautiful and very good looking after
A lovely cathedral we enjoyed are cost as we have every time we visit .
Always a good place to park if you are in the town. The cathedral itself is one of the simplest decorated Catholic churches I have ever been in and would suit the Vatican, as opposed to the opulence in Rome, charging its own parishioners money to see previous Popes ridiculously priced clothing and the domes whispering gallery. As an aside, be careful going to ST Marks in Venice, the original "bronze" horses, stolen from Constantinople are not those on the upper facade. To see the originals, you need to pay to go to an upper room and see them, you even have to pay to go to the altar in ST Marks. However, ST Johns in Portsmouth is pleasant enough
At a funeral of a much missed friend & neighbour. A beautiful service. A beautiful cathedral.
Not the most historical of venues but an extremely well built cathedral. Central position, free parking and the acoustics are memorable. On a par with the Anglican cathedral in Old Portsmouth, well worth a visit
The Catholic Cathedral in Portsmouth is a beautiful place, the internal decor is great and has a calm and peaceful aura. I was there for the ordination of my good friend as a deacon. There is also a small shop where you can purchase some religious books, cards, icons etc.
Great place to sit in silence and contemplate even if you are not religious.
Im not a religious man but I do like a church, its all about the architecture for me and St Johns is a beautiful building, as with all churches/cathedrals it does have a calming atmosphere with its stunning stained glass windows, was a nice little stop off before heading into the naval harbour.
Beautiful church, feels a bit weird reviewing a church but ill review it as a tourist attraction more than a church. The cathedral looks plain and boring from the outside but the inside is full of beautiful statues, stained glass windows and a lovely bishop. The masses are amazing so if youre in portsmouth I would reccomend attending mass there or just looking around before/after mass
Magnificent accoustics and classes. Historical and impressive, vibrant place of worship and centre of evangelisation. Great group of FOCUS missionaries.
Good parking,, lovely interesting building,, quiet place to go and visit to either just look or for a quiet prayer
Be careful we got a parking fine the road to the right on leaving church car park is a bus Lane no signs on leaving the car park automatic car plate registerCathedral beautiful inside we did stations of the cross holy week Friday adoration beautiful interiors and statue worth a visit
Nice Priest, very nice church. Novas Order. None catholic should not receive holy communion. Mass service everyday.
Went there for my nephews son Christianing. The priest is very friendly and well spoken. You can watch the service online as the camera is pointed towards the Center stage. It is a grand place and i like the short service too.
In May 2018 I visited Portsmouth and walked round most of the city visiting the Historic dockyard also. I parked in the Park and Ride car park and jumped on a bus into Portsmouth. The first stop being St. Johns Catholic Cathedral in Bishop Crispian Way, Portsmouth PO1 3HQ. Followed by the Victoria Park an oasis in the middle of a built up city, 3 Stanhope rd, Portsmouth PO1 3QL Portsmouth then next was the City Council buildings Civic Offices, Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth PO1 2AL. There are so many interesting places to see around this part of Portsmouth.Portsmouth is a port city in Hampshire, England, mainly on Portsea Island, 70 miles ( 110 km south-west of London and 19 miles ( 31 km south east of Southampton. It has a total population of 205,400. The city forms part of the South Hampshire metropolitan area, which also covers Southampton and the towns of Havant, Waterlooville, Eastleigh, Fareham, and Gosport. The citys history can be traced back to Roman times. A significant naval port for centuries, Portsmouth has the worlds oldest dry dock and was Englands first line of defence during the French invasion in 1545. Special Palmerston Forts were built in 1859 in anticipation of another invasion from continental Europe. By the early-19th century, Portsmouth was the most heavily fortified city in the world, and was considered the worlds greatest naval port at the height of the British Empire. The worlds first mass production line was set up in the city, making it the most industrialised site in the world. During the Second World War, the city was a pivotal embarkation point for the D-Day landings and was bombed extensively in the Portsmouth Blitz, which resulted in the deaths of 930 people. In 1982, a large proportion of the task force dispatched to liberate the Falkland Islands deployed from the citys naval base. Her Majestys Yacht Britannia left the city to oversee the transfer of Hong Kong in 1997, which marked for many the end of the empire.Portsmouth is one of the worlds best known ports. HMNB Portsmouth is considered to be the home of the Royal Navy and is home to two-thirds of the UKs surface fleet. The city is home to some famous ships, including HMS Warrior, the Tudor Mary Rose and Horatio Nelsons flagship, HMS Victory ( he worlds oldest naval ship still in commission The former HMS Vernon naval shore establishment has been redeveloped as a retail park known as Gunwharf Quays. Portsmouth is among the few British cities with two cathedrals: the Anglican Cathedral of St Thomas and the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St John the Evangelist. The waterfront and Portsmouth Harbour are dominated by the Spinnaker Tower, one of the United Kingdoms tallest structures at 560 feet ( 170 mtr ). Nearby Southsea is a seaside resort with a pier amusement park and medieval castle. To the south of Portsmouth are the waters of Spithead, the wider Solent, and the Isle of Wight. The southern coast of the city was historically fortified by the Round Tower, the Square Tower, Southsea Castle, Lumps Fort and Fort Cumberland. Four sea forts were built in the Solent to protect Portsmouth by Lord Palmerston, these are named Spitbank Fort, St Helens Fort, Horse Sand Fort and No Mans Land Fort.
