Spicy Gringo's - Mexican restaurant in Weirton, United States
Spicy Grincos has always been my most favorite restaurant! It’s so different compared to others which makes it the BEST❤️ Please go try it before they close😔
Waitress was very nice, However I was unpleased with the food. We were told the cook wasn’t there that day, the rice was in clumps, terrible tasting, and the beans were filled with water. other then that, the salsas tasted fresh, however I did not enjoy the food being served in to go containers, maybe coping with the pandemic? I’m not writing to hate, just trying to better the restaurant, has potential! Another note was our waitress seemed to be lonely working, soon after she seated us, she had to seat and wait on four other tables.
Everything is delicious, but the breakfast... the breakfast is my favorite!Staff is friendly and helpful. If you haven’t been- you must try!
Best breakfast burritos you ever had
If I could marry a chicken salad right now?? Spicy Gringo’s Avocado Chicken salad🥑 (w/o the taco shell because I’m doing low carb but that just means it’s probably even better)👰 🤵 💍 ⛪️
Awesome!!!! From the time we walked in we felt welcome.. the waitress was very knowledgeable about all the questions we had, and as we ate the cook came out to make sure we were enjoying our food.... it is a MUST TRY !!!!!!
3 dollar up charge on any beef product. have things on the menu That they don’t even make anymore. Chips weren’t fresh. Server told me none of this prior. I used to go here and it was great but the business had went down hill dramatically. Would not recommend.
Today was my first visit to spicy gringos and it was excellent! The food was delicious, atmosphere was very laid back and our waitress was fantastic!! Will defiantly be going back. Their drive thru window for take out is a plus as well!!
Really good food, hometown restaurant. opened up for his wife, I love the thought behind the restaurant and I love all of the love that goes into his food! He makes his guac fresh every single day!! The best Mango hot sauce (home madeFresh Tortilla Chips served free with any meal and the prices really are affordable! In the area? I suggest here over mcds! 🤔😉
Delicious homemade Mexican food. Great choice of 4 different hot sauces! Everything has been good here. Very friendly staff.
Our first time here was an extremely disappointing experience !Took a bit to get waited on even though they were not that busy ( only 5-7 other tables)! When we did get waited on was told by the cook they were sold out of what we wanted. We agreed to the steak meat as a substitution ( bad mistake very chewy and grisly). Our food took over 30 minutes once the cook talked to us and our orders were wrong so we had to wait even longer for them to redo them. There was issues at all the tables near us also. The staff was extremely friendly and apologized for the issues and everything seemed and looked very clean! Not sure if we are going to give it another go! Really wanted to try the plain tacos!
This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Its not Tex Mex, its Baja Mex, more mellow tastes. I always recommend the margaritas, they are top notch and pack a punch. Also you can tell the quality and effort they put into each dish. It literally tastes homemade.
Only two employees in the place and the people dining inside had to wait while the hostess/waitress/drive thru took care of a drive thru customer with a large order. Food wasnt horrible but nothing to brag about about. Our waitress was very friendly even if we did have to ask her twice for something
Food was a 2. Quesadilla was very bland, beans were way too salty and inedible. Was charged a dollar more than it was listed on the menu and I was charged a “separation charge” because I got the pico on the side. No mention of it when I asked for it on the side by the way. Even my to go soda was only filled 3/4 of the cup.
First time here and I really liked it! Allen the owner introduced himself and spoke about his love for Mexican food, being that his inspiration came from San Diego ( where I grew upI definitely had to try.. well it was delicious, a great way to Express your love of something is to imitate it . I loved the different salsas and the food was flavorful and fresh, Great job Allen!Ill be back--- Desiree
Food was fantastic, great atmosphere and a wonderful hostess. Only 4 star because of one thing:When I went there at around 6-7pm on a Monday I didnt expect many other patrons. When we got entered no staff was at the door to greet us/set us. No biggie. Was just a little awkward. Then it turned out to be like almost 10 minutes, onlywhen a customer notified the hostess that we were at the front desk (seconds from walking outdid we get seated. Come to find out that it was because a server called off for the day. Again, no problem with the food! Once we got everything it was fantastic. Our hostess, again, also wonderful. Just a long wait time when it was almost deserted.
Fresh made salsa and chips were the start to a delicious meal. The barbecued flavor of the pulled chicken was truly amazing. The super friendly staff provided service that was outstanding as well.
Eclectic decor that is a mix of sports bar, Mexican themed items, unusual art, Cali surfer, and personal photos. Restaurant was clean and wait staff was friendly. Food was good, very filling, but a little pricey in my opinion. We enjoyed our first time there and its going to be "on the list" of places we would eat at again. Worthwhile place to check out if youre in the area.
Gringos has so much potential as the chef appears to be knowledgeable about Mexican cuisine specifically the Southern California variety yet fails to deliver at the table. The food is bland, which is almost impossible to achieve with mexican food yet it does. Its good enough to give it a second chance however and hopefully my Initial visit was an anomaly. I fear the worst. Stay tuned for more updates.
The all you can eat Taco special on Tuesdays is incredible!! A wonderful deal and if you leave hungry, it is your own fault!! Simply delicious.
Love! To go in and enjoy your food your servers and atmosphere can be rare these days in this area but if you just cant help it here. The owner and cook alot when I have I do dine in often comes around to just say hi not even looking for feedback tho just to be friendly! Oh and the dine in and drive through is pretty quick and efficient as well, I love it when Im out there to shop and call before I leave the store its ready and I can get back on the 22 back to PA! Go try it!
Honestly, the food here is amazing. Ive only been about a handful of times, but everytime Ive gone the food was to die for, the staff was nice and always had good service, and Alan, the owner, is a really nice guy. I would suggest this to any looking for good, authentic Mexican food.
Alan is the best and his food is always fresh and flavorful. I wish he was closer but always a must stop if in the area. His catering is also phenomenal. If you like Mexican, come here, you won’t be disappointed
Great food and service. Mexican food with a little American flare. Wonderful sause selection. Family friendly. I cant wait to go back and explore the menu. Everything looks so delicious.
Love this place, sometimes a little slow on service, but for Mexican food with a Cali twist, it is the best. The mango habenero sauce is to die for, chips fresh made, the food is all homemade, no fast-food, clean and fresh. A treasure, comfortable and laid back. Prices are very reasonable.
I come here almost weekly now by myself or with my husband. This place has been the best and my favorite place to go for food anywhere. Their homemade sauces are absolutely to die for, Allan was quick to introduce himself and made us feel right at home. I plan on being a frequent customer.
Supper friendly people, and the food was amazing!
Love this place. Ill drive from wheeling all the time to eat good mexican food. I love west coast style mexican food. What can i say, im born and raised in s.d. Allen is doing an amazing job. MY WHOLE FAM LOVES SPICY GRINGO!!!
Wonderful food. The service is excellent and the staff is always very friendly. Very clean dining room and restrooms, and the atmosphere is lively. The owner is very courteous, witnessed in the dining room visiting patrons for a quick thank-you.
I love Mexican food. This is NOT Mexican food. This is bland meat in a tortilla with some cilantro. I wanted to try different things to see what I would like. The chicken was dry with no seasoning, not even salt. The ground beef was, again, bland and without any seasoning. The "hot" salsa was tomatoes and cilantro. I truly wanted to support a family owned business but Taco Bell has better service and higher quality food.EDIT - Im unable to respond to the owner who posted his answer to my review, so heres my edit:"Pico" is not a condiment. Pico de gallo, however, is a type of salsa. The fact that you used the word "pico" tells me you, the Gringo, have no first hand knowledge of Mexican culture or cuisine. Ive eaten Mexican food IN Mexico . Ive lived in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Utah. I know the difference between MEXICAN food, Tex-Mex, Southwestern, Sonoran, and Baja "Mexican" food. Your cuisine is a watered-down version of Baja style, but without flavor. I compared it to Taco Bell because, while its not authentic Mexican food, at least its seasoned. Just as if I went to a restaurant for Southern fried chicken but received soggy, flavorless, unidentifiable meat, I would tell everyone to go to KFC.My order was takeout, so I did not complain to the server about the slow service and flavorless food. Thats what Im doing now. Im sure you thought that writing a response about using lard would impress someone, but as someone who has made my own flour tortillas and my own refried beans, everyone who makes "authentic" Mexican food knows that. You could have taken this opportunity to learn something about how customers feel about your food instead of getting defensive. You could have asked what it would take to change my mind, instead you called your salsa "pico" which doesnt actually mean anything. Please, warn your customers that you serve Baja, California style food instead of promising Mexican food.
I got the 5 burrito sampler. There was only one that was edible. Nice place and nice people, just wasnt my cup of tea. Definitely dont go if your wanting Mexican food.
Awesome food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff! Dont let the name mislead you - the food is not spicy hot, just delicious! But, they do offer a variety of homemade sauces so you can pick the spice level you desire. Check it out!
Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Fresh Food. Great prices. Great staff.
Very nice. Restaurant was clean. Good food with a great selection. Excellent customer service. Our waitress was very helpful and went out of her way to take care of us which I appreciate. The owner was also very nice and helpful. He came to our table when we first got there and shook my hand and introduced himself. All in all it was a 2 thumbs up nite. Will definitely return to Spicy Gringos.
We were on a small trip to Ohio and stopped to try something new. Food was great. Buddy said tacos were the best hes had, I tried a "calzone" and it was different but amazing. Fresh salsa and chips is nice compared to the regular bag chips and sauce salsa at most places. In house made hot sauces were clutch too. Would have gotten a 5 but it was a long wait we werent expecting in the middle of a trip.
Though breakfast was good spicy gringos is not a breakfast type placeAnother fault is that in the main area of the restaurant there is a bar, list of alcoholic beverages that takes half the wall, and the service needs just a little work. For the mostpart it is a nice little place as long as you have time to wait.
Tasty food and desserts, a variety of drinks (I recommend an Oskar Blues BEERITO), friendly management/staff, amd a pleasantly relaxing atmosphere. The Avocado Salad with Yucatan Chicken is my wife and Is Favorite!
My patient & I thought everything & our waitress was excellent !!! I had been in TX for over 40 yrs & am used to eating Mexican food at least 3xs a WK !!! Before I moved back to Wellsburg I looked you up & you were a couple of blocks away from me & I said thank you God. Then I found out you had moved out of town & just found out your address & came to indulge. You can come back to Wellsburg anytime! Thanks
Great food! Philly cheese steak burrito so good! First time visiting. Staff extremely knowledgeable. Definitely return
To bad I did not take a picture of the food. Received things I asked not to have on my burrito. Extremely small amount of food for the price. No rice or beans. Just a burrito. The wife said her chorizo had so much salt on it she didnt eat much of it. Her order came out as just a burrito as well. The cost of two burritos and two drinks were 28$ we are currently at taco bell.
Everything is homemade, including the chips and salsa everyday. There is no freezer, no microwave. Their style of Mexican food is not your typical TexMex, this is West Coast style. I like it so much better. The food tastes so fresh. I also have wheat and soy allergies and the owner worked with me to tell me what I can eat, and its about half the menu, which is a lot for a person like me. My husband and I go almost every week and get the nachos with steak. On Wednesdays we get a side of homemade queso that will change your life, but its only available Wednesdays since the owner comes in and makes the majority of the menu items by himself every single day. You have to eat here. Period. Its so good.
The food is excellent! Its nothing too outlandish, but simple is good in this era of complexity. The free chips and salsa are among the best I have ever had, and fresh.
Amazing food and service, the best Ive had in the area by far. Alan is extremely courteous and always makes sure his customers are taken care of. Highly recommended the ghost pepper sauce if you like hot stuff.
I love eating here. The owner is very nice. The gringarita is great! Its simple, fresh, and delicious. Not your typical Mexican restaurant but definitely worth trying!
The quality of the food was, I thought, superior to many other restaurants of this type Ive eaten at. Everything is fresh and you can taste the difference over food thats been frozen and reheated. Combine that with a clean restaurant and friendly staff and you have a winner.
Food was good. Value so-so...dont think they should charge you nearly $1.50 each for a spoonful of sour cream or guacamole though. One MAJOR thing is that they need a way better marketing/advertising plan if they think that anyone in the area will know where their new location in Weirton,WV is.There is NO SIGN up on the main road (Colliers Wayto let people know that this place even exists. Then, if you get lucky and turn down the road by gas station, the building that this restaurant is in looks more like a doctors office than a restaurant from the outside.
Food is so fresh. And it shows in the taste. There is no microwave or freezer on site! That is just fantastic and something you cant find in our valley. Mexican restaurants in our area simply can not compare.
I have been a regular customer at Spicys since September 2012. It is definitely Wellsburgs best kept secret! I love stopping in on my commute home from West Liberty University. The staff and the food are amazing! Alan and Cassie treat me so good and always make me feel welcome and appreciated. Spicys offers a casual, friendly atmosphere combined with affordable, great tasting food that cant be beat! I love my Spicy family!! :-)
Authentic atmosphere, excellent food, amazing service! I am a frequent patron and I love it! Their addition of the homemade hot sauses makes it over the top AWESOME :)
Just stumbled into this place while working close by. Excellent atmosphere and decor. Hot sauces were fantastic. Give the most kudos to the staff and owner Allan who quickly introduced himself. Got the quesadillas and burrito. Loved them. Recommend to all.
