Spanish Garden Steakhouse - Steak house in Brisbane, Australia
Spanish Garden Steakhouse in Brisbane
Description
Privilege
We came back to the Breakfast Creek hotel because of a fabulous recent meal at the Spanish Garden. We booked a table in the beer garden (due to Spanish Garden being booked out), what a mistake. When we arrived our table was dirty from previous guests (The staff were great & cleaned it up). Then we ordered. 2 x Dry aged ribeye & 2 x smoked ribs. Someone came out about 30 mins later to confirm our order. Then the 2 steaks & 1 ribs arrived. We waited…. One of our guests went to enquire when the other serve of ribs would be ready & was told & It was coming out. 10 mins later, still nothing. I went back to ask & was told it was coming out. I pointed out we we were told that 10mins earlier…. The dish arrived but not as ordered, so had to go back again. The steaks were a bit tough & the ribs dry but the worst of it was very drunk people at the next table yelling obscenities. Security did not intervene & despite us asking for them to tone it down, it was another customer who went & spoke directly to the people at the table. We left soon after, disappointed, for what was meant to be a wonderful birthday celebration.
MoreYou exceeded expectations. The food was great. The staff friendly and quick. Watching the managers run food and clear tables next to their staff is always refreshing and conveys a supportive inclusive venue. Well done to Stewie, Jack and the team.
MoreHad a beautiful lunch , the staff was very friendly and helpful. The management should be very proud of the staff they have. Everyone was working fast and all had smiles . Quite impressive for a group of young staff .
MoreI reviewed this place 4 stars just over 4 years ago. Over this time I have been quite often, but tonight will be my last. The quality of the steak and the chefs ability to cook it right has significantly diminished. Tonight was by far the worst. A medium eye fillet cooked until it was charcoal. A medium rare rump, magically turned to leather and a medium rib fillet looking like beef carpaccio. To top it all off there was a good 15 minutes between the first steak and the 3rd.Honestly if I wanted to pay this much money for a horrible experience Id buy some A5 Wagyu and slap it in the microwave. Thanks for cementing my experience.
MoreFamily get together. Staff were friendly, service was good & food was great. Only down side was having to finish earlier than planned due to the impending wet weather but a good time was had by all.
MoreSpeaking for a Friday afternoon. There is a great mix of people who compliment the atmosphere. Plenty of attentive staff to deliver your beers or food to your table.Recommended
MoreFriendly service.Sadly our family get together for lunch was disappointing. The food was unsatisfying, fish & parmis served with cold fries all round, the chicken caesar salad wasnt good, over grilled charred chicken with bland dressing. All we want is crisp fries & tasty fresh food when we eat out.
MoreCrazy how it takes over an hour to receive a chicken schnitzel. And I’m still waiting! Servers aimlessly walking… at least look like you’ve got something to do. If you choose to have this much seating, you should probably be able to cater for that size.
More1 out of 4 meals exceeded expectation. Steak was great. Chicken Parmi’s and chips were cold, one slightly under cooked. Fish was average but again cold. Nice staff.
MoreMixed feelings. Great building oozing history, well run and not too chaotic given the sheer size of the pub. The food was good but not great. The medium rare steaks were very well done around the edges - I’ll order rare next time! The Idaho potatoes were very dry and overcooked. Finally the sauces were thick, gelatinous and lacking flavour - honestly couldn’t distinguish it from the powdered ones you buy at the supermarket and make up at home. Surely places like this can be both big and still deliver a stunning steak? Plenty of good steak houses in Brisbane these day….tough competition.
MoreFood is great. A broad selection of meat if thats your thing. The old school beer from the wooden keg is an awesome touch and tastes amazing. The original bar they have still running takes you back in time. Staff are good and the place always has a dense vibe
MoreBooked tables for 20 people but they were taken by other patrons. When we went to the bar to help move on the people the other patrons refused to leave. Bar staff were then unhelpful as they wanted to avoid conflict.I wouldnt recommended booking tables here; maybe go here when its quiet, like a Monday night.
MoreWe meet up with friends and family at the Spanish garden restaurant of B C H.What a lovely spot to dine, the staff are very friendly and welcoming. I recommend the Spanish garden restaurant great menu options too. Be sure to book your table first as it seems very popular. Enjoy your meal. 😀
MoreTerrible! What the hell happened to this once great place? I was there on Sunday. The meal arrived cold. The steak (medium rarewas well done, dry and chewy. Very poor quality cut for $45+ The coleslaw had been sitting in the dressing for hours, it was grey and had no taste at all. The baked potato was firm in the middle. The Morton Bay bug topper, for an extra $12 was tiny and burnt. I couldn’t be more disappointed, yet the place was packed. Why?
MoreI was trying to find an email address to send this to, but they apparently don’t have one, so Google reviews it is.My family and I haven’t been to the BCH in about 3-4 years, and we were so excited to return as it was always an awesome place to get a meal. Upon arrival, we weren’t shown to our table – rather, the young man who was checking for reservations greeted us, then just kind of vaguely pointed towards the back of the building. We take a moment to find our table, and when we do, we also find that it was covered in dirty plates and glasses. Thankfully a waiter saw this and grabbed the plates, but our table was not wiped down, we didn’t get any cutlery, and the glasses and napkins from the previous customers were left there for the entire duration of our meal.We didn’t mind too much at first, as we figured the place was a bit short staffed. Our next disappointment was the ordering system. We used to love going up to the window with the mouth-watering steaks and getting to choose one out. However, this is no longer allowed. The online system takes away that entire experience, along with the customer service we once enjoyed. Additionally, there is nowhere to put notes in your order, so if you’d like something left out (e.g. no sauce, no onions, etc.), too bad. Again, we gave the BCH the benefit of the doubt, as we were still super excited for the food.We ordered oysters and garlic bread for entrée, along with our mains, 4 steaks and a calamari + chips. The garlic bread took between 45 minutes and 1 hour to come out, and when it did, it was reminiscent of the one you can buy from Domino’s (except double the price and doesn’t taste as good). Approx. another 30 mins after that, and we finally started getting our mains (note: the oysters were nowhere to be seen). The waitress brought out one plate at a time, which took a while as we were towards the back of the restaurant. Additionally, we still didn’t have any cutlery, so while we waited for the rest of the meals to arrive, we had to just stare at our steaks and watch them go cold. Finally, all four steaks were on the table, and the waitress went off to grab cutlery. Two of our orders were slightly incorrect, but we were starving at this point and didn’t want to wait! The steaks were pretty much perfect, but the coleslaw and mushroom gravy were honestly quite tasteless. The best way to describe the gravy is that it tasted like the 90 second microwave stuff you can buy from the shops.Roughly another 20 minutes pass, and we still had not received the calamari meal, meaning all but 1 person had nearly finished their dinner. We had to continuously chase it up with staff – and not once did we receive an apology or any sort of update on the orders. We would not have minded waiting so long if we had at least been kept informed. The end of our table was piled with glasses from both our order and the previous customer’s order, and not once were they cleared, even with multiple waiters seeing them. And finally, after our meals were finished, we *finally* got our 8 Kilpatrick oysters – rather than being an entrée, they became a dessert. After spending $280 on food that was not much better than the local RSL, this was by far the most disappointing experience we have had at the brekky creek. We will not be returning (nor encouraging others to).
MoreGreat place for a drink with mates. There are so many bars with different themes so it almost feels like a mini resort when you walk around which is cool. We had a few drinks which were reasonably priced but didn’t try any of the food. Would recommend giving this place a crack for something different in the Brisbane bar/pub scene.
MoreI would of love to give a 5 star this time. But unfortunately although the meal was cook perfectly. The order was not complete we did not recieve the bread rolls we actually ordered and had to go collect the culinary to be able to eat. The bread rolls never did turn up.
MoreThe Spanish Restaurant is wonderful! Great with children, prompt service and the "Dry Aged Rib Eye on the Bone" is excellent! Easy going, friendly family environment and lovely place for a relaxing meal.
MoreTwo star for atmosphere and drinks.Had to send my meal back as the salad was limp, like it’s been sitting out all day. Ordered my fillet rare but came out blue and ate as didn’t want to return plate again. So a few hours later starting to feel nauseous then the cramps and upset tummy, trips to the toilet and my Sunday plans ruined. The local pub steak for half the price is a better deal. Won’t be back ever.
MoreSo this place has always been more expensive for a steak but a bit disappointed today. Not how we remember the food being, my wifes salad went back as it looked like 2 day old lawn clippings.. good atmosphere though and convenient location with parking.
MoreThe rum bar is a quiet spot at the hotel that also has a great selection of drinks including local craft beers. We ordered a steak ( of courseand it was delivered to our table there. Very peaceful and great food and drink 👍
MoreWent to this beautiful hotel for the first time but unfortunately was disappointed with our meals. When I received my Caesar salad I straight away checked the egg and it was stone cold straight out of a fridge. Who does that with a Caesar??? The egg must be at least warm and gooey. My partners lamb curry was only warm so decided to take them back. The young man that assisted was amazing. When our meals arrived again my egg was warm this time but over cooked and I was then devastated to find their were no anchovies in the dish and very little dressing. What is a Caesar salad without anchovies!!! The lamb curry sauce was watery and very powdery in texture and taste. Lucky we had ordered a bowl of chips to share as I didn’t bother speaking to staff a second time. Best to stick with what they are known for.Next time we will try their steaks!!!
MoreThe service was lacking and the food was pretty poor for price we paid. The pasta and ceaser were bland and lacked flavor, the steak was good but we requested Medium rare and was brought a steak that may as well have moo’d at me. Very rare. Maybe next time, We’ll see.
MoreI like the atmosphere of the hotel, however, the food was pretty average. I ordered a gnocchi and asked for it vegan because I didn’t want goat cheese. The option was frankly, an expensive dish for what it was and lacked flavour. Instead of having vegan cheese or some alternative, it was just dry. I wouldn’t go here if I was a vegetarian or vegan. My FIL paid around $40 for a steak which was rather on the dry/tough side.Service was very slow, although it was Father’s Day.I wouldn’t be inclined to go here again as it’s over-priced for what it is and there’s no table service when ordering, just the QR code.
MoreUsed to be a great place to get a decent steak but not anymore. Over priced to the max, $170 plus for 4 steaks with chips & salad, drinks are ridiculously expensive and we waited ages to get our meals. 2 other tables arrived after us and both got their meals before we did. There was only 4 of us too.
MoreDelicious cocktails.Shame about our food. 2 steaks were undercooked, scallops were cold. I had The Creek and looked like it was thrown on the plate by Stevie Wonder. The prices certainly dont match the quality.
MoreWe regularly go to the Brekky Creek Hotel for lunch on the weekend and we always take our Border Collie. While the venue is always super busy, the food and service remain very good. Our dog loves to go there as the staff are very accepting of him and always treat him with kind words, smiles and a few pats. In particular, a massive thank you to Lee and the Breakfast Creek Hotel manager who have made this venue so people and dog friendly. Being your patron is a highlight of our weekend - thank you so much.
MoreMyself and 5 others went to the Spanish gardens for a birthday celebration recently. Our starters were missed entirely as they “weren’t entered correctly” and our meals took quite some time to come out - so much so a table that was seated after us had their starters and mains finished before we got any food.I was disappointed that the only note we got about the starters being missed was “sorry” and that we could reorder them after our meals were delivered which seemed rather pointless.Even though the meals were lovely I was very dissatisfied with the overall service.
MoreWhat can you say about an iconic location like this establishment. Clearly still delivering the highest of quality steaks. Cooked to perfection on the medium rare and medium options chosen. A wonderful meeting place with food and beverages at the best value for dollar spend. The support team were very cheerful and helpful. Making the all-round experience a memorable one. Well done to the current managers and the team members.
MoreThe meals are delicious, especially the steaks. All of them were cooked to perfection. Atmosphere in the Spanish Garden was great.A special mention to Sue, the supervisor, who provided amazing service!
MoreThe atmosphere here is wonderful. The food is great and the service warm and friendly. Lots of different areas so to sit. Worth going to for a wonderful experience.
MoreWas reading Google reviews on steak recommendations and it was recommended that Breakfast Creek Hotel had great steak. Thought it would be a great idea to take my brother who was visiting from overseas to try it out. Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the steak. We had a ribeye medium well, rump steak medium rare and a ribeye on the bone medium doneness. They were all overcooked and dry. Sadly to say, I will not be returning for steak.
MoreGreat food, steaks were yum and the sticky date and chocolate tart were nice. Only 3 hour booking per table though.Good customer service.
MoreAn upmarket McDonalds. You know exactly what youre going to get, the quality is always the same and you always leave satisfied. We had the tomahawk for dinner with sides of chips and coleslaw. More than enough for the two of us and a treat for the fur baby at home. Steak was medium but seemed a little more on the medium rare side and not evenly cooked but the side of diane sauce was rich and silky. Worth the money.
MoreThis was a poor dining experience for me and my family. Staff werent friendly or engaging at all. No one came to check on our meals.I paid $10 extra for garlic prawn toppers...however, there were only 3 prawns sent out just on the side of the plate and I still had to shell them myself. Oh, and they werent flavoured. They forgot the sauce the first time they delivered the steak.Canadian Club Dry on tap was flat. The bartender who served me didnt know much at all about the wines or how to make a cocktail and just simply said "We dont do that here."Honestly - not in a rush to go back anytime soon. Service was severely lacking.
MoreBest steak Ive had in years! Love the qr code to order from table for table service for beers and food. So good I went back the next day.
MoreThe food was absolutely appauling; I ordered an Eye Fillet and the steak was dry, the coleslaw was a serving not even appropriate for a child and it was old. The idaho potato was quite tasteless and seemed stale. For almost $50 I certainly wouldnt be going back anytime soon. There are many places in Brisbane now that you can get a good steak.Disappointing given the Hotels historic reputation. The last time I had eaten there some years ago it was alot better.
MoreHad a 2 week in between lease stay over next to the hotel. Very nostalgic hotel and worth a look through and a beer. Food very average, Had 3 visits whilst next door. First visit steaks were great, Idaho potatoes were so dry I had to kill it with butter and still didnt help, definitely would have had chips in hindsight. 2nd visit oysters Kirkpatrick were dry but tasty, really needed lemon but so hard to attract staff to supply some. Nacho were nothing to rave about. Last visit tonight again the steaks, chips, mushroom sauce, and coleslaw were great, however I asked for garlic prawn topper and what I got were 3 grilled prawns which I had to peel, not sure where the garlic was, all for an extra $10. So summarising very nostalgic, nice steak but its a tick and wouldnt bother again. After reading reviews there are still problems to get a decent level of reputation again. Being an icon for visitors is probably whats keeping it viable
MoreWas recommended to visit here for the steaks and now I know why. Really fantastic meat and portion sizes. Would love to go back and try other items on the menu another time. The garlic bread would have been enough for me to leave and feel satisfied.
MoreIve been here whenever I have good events for a few year. But today I got worst service ever. I order medium rare but steak cooked like well done. I visited with two of my mates. They just gave us only two beards for the beginning of the meal. Also staff never cared my table even they saw me. Quite hard to order. They need to train their staff. Except today, my last visit was only 2-3weeks ago there wasnt any problems at all. However today... smh
MoreI love the history, I love how Iconic and so Brisbane it is. A QLD institution. It’s a great pub.Love the Spanish Garden, may it never change. You’ll order well, can’t go wrong. A bloody good steak cooked to perfection, always.
MoreWe always love coming here, the food is sensational, the staff are so good and tonight was no different. Bella was incredible and remembered us visiting from a year ago. Definitely adds a special touch to our evening. We will be back!
MoreSteaks were great as usual. Service was friendly, efficient and fast. The staff were very helpful when we asked for the heaters to be turned on. It was very cold in the semi- outdoor area.
MoreIf you want a great steak, dont come here. Tough as a boot. That was a medium dry age rib on bone for $52. Wifes lamb in the lamb salad was dry, salad was nice. Only gave stars for the waitstaff, who was great, she offered my wife and I a extra drink each for free. You really have to look at who is the head of your kitchen, Im surprised this is served to customers. No need a reply, we wont be back, alot of places elsewhere have you outgunned.
MoreAmbience was good but not the same as it once was. Food ok not hot.Hotel made a mistake with another booking and told us we had to move for next people. Gave us another table with no heaters, unclean table and forgot our drinks. Not sure why we had to move ….
MoreFrom our greeting at the door the staff were not friendly and not welcoming.Ordering food is only done from the table by your phone and theres no option to customise your order for food allergies.Drink order done electronically from the table was messed up we ordered a glass of Cab/Sav but was given a glass of white wine instead.. the stupid electronic app for Ordering your food asks if you want to give a tip even though you havent had your meal yet. Note **Tips are given at the end of your meal for a good feed and good service**. In this case there would be no tip...We got the Creek steak meal and it came with garlic prawns which werent shelled and still had the poo in it, no garlic flavour. Nothing like the photo on their menu. The rum & coke smoked brisket was good.Service and food has definitely gone down hill since we last ate here a few years ago.Lift your game Breakky creek hotel.
MoreWe come here often as I work across the road. Usually the food is lovely but this time we ordered the share plate to start of pork belly in plum sauce. It was so dry, cold & not nice at all. It was like they just reheated leftovers. Not good
MoreAmazing meal, amazing atmosphere, average pricing, good serving sizes, friendly staff, very dog friendly and warm environment, even outside in winter. Love it. Definitely worth going there for just a meal or a special occasion.
MoreGreat place to go for weekend lunch. The steaks are great, and you can get all sorts of optional extras. The included sides are a bit sparse, though. The service is friendly, even though it wasnt that quick today. It was very busy though.
MoreWe just went for drinks and a steak. The food came out before the drinks and we were told the orders weren’t going through despite the fact we paid for them already. The server never returned and we ended up eating food without the drinks. An hour after they were ordered and paid for we had to get up and go and chase them. Not the best pub when you can’t get a beer you’ve paid for. Steaks were good though.
