ISRO space museum VSSC thumba
Should visit at least once to kindle the internet in the field of space, rocket, etc.
Its a wonderful museum. But, smartphones, cameras and other digital devices are not be allowed in the campus due to security rerons
NASA allow phone and videography inside the museum, this is funny
Phones are not allowed. Place is serene and interesting. Need to get pass to enter.
One of the best museums to visit for space enthusiastic individuals !!!
Photography at museum will add to the ratings and ticket charges may be instituted to add security.
If you love ISRO, and want to know its history since its inception, go to the Space museum in a church at Thumba. Photography and videography are prohibited. You must take prior permission online and show the reference number at the check post. Then you would be issued a pass after depositing your phone and smartwatch. You can choose to walk or taking a free shuttle from the check post gate to the museum. I could click only one picture of a canal outside the campus.
The museum gives you an understanding on how ISRO is part of your daily life. Theres a little bit of ISRO in everyones life!
Nice visit to learn space related information
A great experience and a very good chance to know about rockets and ISRO!
Great serve to nation .From the days of having a church as control room, the bishops house as office and a bicycle as ferry and naked eyes to track the smoke plume at Thumba in Kerala and converting a toilet into a satellite data receiving centre in Bengaluru, Indian space odyssey have come a long way to ferrying foreign satellites, launching moon and Mars orbiters, and now planning to land on the Moon. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISROis the pioneer space exploration agency of the Government of India, headquartered at Bengaluru. ISRO was formed in 1969 with a vision to develop and harness space technology in national development, while pursuing planetary exploration and space science research. ISRO replaced its predecessor, INCOSPAR (Indian National Committee for Space Research), established in 1962 by Indiaโs first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and scientist Vikram Sarabhai, considered amongst the founding fathers of Indian space program.
I was watching a Kerala channel, from New York today and the broad cast was about school Children visiting the Thumpa Rocket Museum. The lady / a museum employee, who was explaining to the children the history and other facts about the program said something that was very wrong: that the reason why Thumpa was chosen for the facility was because the Equator passes through Thumpa. Wrong, Wrong,Wrong! Equator does not pass through India at all.India lies North of the equator. The southern tip of India is close to the equator but the equator does not pass through India at all. The children will repeat the error through their lives. Please tell the lady and others there, to correct this error, so they wonโt confuse the children and other visitors forever. Thanks.Dr George Isaac
Nice place for kids to learn about the ISRO history and science. If you are lucky you can also see the sounding rocket launch.
Tie up properly for security clearance, else you will have to keep waiting a while

Situated near the northern boundary of Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS), a few metres from the coastline, St Mary Magdalene Church, lined with high-tech artefacts and visuals, speak the tell tales on the birth of Indian Space Programme. It was in this church that the first rocket systems were assembled and integrated in 1962. The Bishop House, forming part of the church, functioned at that time as the office of the Director, TERLS. As the scientific activities gathered momentum, new projects came up, which necessitated the construction of new buildings. The first in the line were the Control Centre and then the R&D complex on the Veli Hills, all of which relegated the church building into the background. But the good old church refused to go into oblivion! It sprang back to life with renewed vigour. It was converted into a photographic facility, this time as the official chronicler of the Indian Space Programme. In 1985, the church was converted into a Space Museum.ย The museum has full-scale model of PSLV and PSLV heat shield on its premises. The museum also has scaled down (one fifth in sizemodels of GSLV, GSLV Mk-III and ATV.ย Space Museum provides a tell-tale account of the Indian Space Programme from its infancy. The story of the Indian Space Programme is unfurled in six sections, comprising of history, education, technology, applications, global and the future. A movie theatre with surround sound system screens specially tailored movies on Indian Space Programme. The museum attracts regular crowds including students and the public of the order of a lakh in a year. The museum is open to public from 09 30 to 16 00 hrs on all days except Sundays and declared holidays.

Great place for people who are hungry for knowledge related to space science. This is wonderful place to know about indian space missions and research. You will be accompanied by guides who are very good at their work. One of the places needed to be visited in visiting trivandrum.
Cant take photo inside.. first rocket in India was launched from here.. real scale and small scale rocket Indian models can be seen here.. it is like historical journey.. Under ISRO.
Amazing place to look at our countrys humble beginnings in this era of space exploration. A nice your would help you to become familiar with the efforts concentrated in achieving the current status of ISRO. Although, I feel there should have been some antique relics from that era, instead of all mockups..
Nice museum depicting the space development in India from the historic background to the present stage. Those who are interested in rocket science must visit it. This museum shows how India reach to its present stage in space and rocket science. Mobile phone is not allowed in the museum you can deposit at the security gate. This is also a show in the afternoon for the visitors. Thumba sounding rocket launching is nearby. I really enjoyed it.

Very much knowledgeable place about the progress and achievements in the field of space research of Indian space research organization. This museum is established in an old church, inside the campus of VIKRAM SARABHAI SPACE CENTRE. mobile phone and electronic gadgets are prohibited inside.
Museum visit requires online application through their website. Every month, third Wednesday, they used to launch sounding rocket from the campus. So we selected 3rd Wednesday while applying. We reached around 10 in the morning, entered through canal side gate. Parking, cloak room, toilet and a small tea shop located near the entrance. We collected our pass from the office, locked our mobile phones inside the car and proceeded for the security check. After the security check they took us to the museum in their bus. So many school college students from Kerala and other states were present there inside the museum. So we couldnโt actually see all the exhibits there. After the museum visit, they took us to the sea side for watching the sounding rocket launch. On the way we saw the launching pad. View point for the visitors was located about 400 m far from the launching pad. View point is nothing but an open space close to the sea monitored by CISF. Better wear a hat and carry your water bottle. Count down started and at 11.45 sharp, it launched... few seconds.. it disappeared to the sky. Crowd dispersed; another bus took us to security gate. You can keep the entry pass with you as a souvenir.
Must visit when you come to ThiruvananthapuramBy visiting we can understand deep about our countries space science technology and how fast Isro grown
High security area, camera, mobile phones are prohibited inside the museum, one need to deposit mobile and other gadgets at the security gate, one need to have booking for the visit into the centre. Must visit place. It will help us understand Indias space journey. Its tells about the struggle, vision of great men to take it this far. With little budget and technology, great scientists from India are able to successfully complete very complex projects like Mangalyaan in the first go.
Visited here with my family. Take your kids from age 12 onwards so that they can get maximum from here. Its a very good place to understand where india in space technology. Need online booking and on approval from vssc you can visit here.

Road map of Indias space programme well depicted there. A must visit for all science enthusiast. Easy to get the pass. Just login VSSC site and select space museum all details are available there.
The Indian space history you will find here. One of the best place one should visit while in Trivandrum. Everything related to Indias space exploration is available here. The guide will help you understand things in a better way. (You need request for guides aassistance). Greate for students. The theatre show also very interesting.
It is a temple of science for modern India. It is very heartening to note that the museum has been built where indias first rocket launching facility was created. It is also great to note that a church building was handed over to Dr. Vikram Sarabhai for making the facility a national pride.
It is really wonderful place for those who love space and innovation. There are several models of the satellite and rockets invented by ISRO. Thus, we can get a complete picture of our nations growth in space and research. Most importantly, there are staffs in site to explain each and every component of the satellites and rockets, those lessons are well informative and I have learned a lot about space and those staffs are really friendly they have clarified my simple doubts. Also, digital theater is the other main attraction in the museum where they play videos about ISRO since its beginning eara, it is really wonderful and I really proud of my nation and its growth in space and research among world powers. Just too good for anyone who is patriotic or interested in Indias space mission. You need an online reservation to gain entry.Prototypes of ISROs rockets are amazing.Reserve an hour to two.
Great place for people who are hungry for knowledge related to space science. The museum is an old church donated to the government during the 1970s. Outside the museum, theres a PSLV 1:1 size ratio model which is amazing. Further, each section of the museum is well designed with models of different rockets and satellites launched by ISRO with accurate description. It also tells the story about how ISRO developed into such a big organization. Theres a theater where theres a 15 minute documentary shown every half an hour which explains all about ISRO and why Thiruvananthapuram was chosen by Sathish Dhawan. Finally, if you go there on Wednesday, you can see a rocket launch too. The place is very approachable from the city by bus as there are shuttles every 45 minutes. Youve to walk a little from the bus stop to the museum. You can get pass from spacemuseum.vssc.gov.in. Thanks to the Indian government for maintaining this place so well.
