Informative and interesting. Excellent guide. Also inexpensive
A must see🙌🏻 good history
Absolutely fascinating..a must visit for Any aviation enthusiast .
Not organizedWaste of time
Very cool aircraft!
Historic and interesting static displays of amazing aircraft
Amazing history and display of aircrafts
A great learning experience. The kids particularly enjoyed the aircraft jungle gym. Reasonably priced items at the curio shop. Cap at R70 and R100 for a mug.
We need more of this, if you visit make sure to get talking to the curators, they have stories galore.
We are in Eastern Cape for 5 years now and we never knew that this place existed. The reason is that there are no advertising. Tis is a gem hidden away at the back of the airport. This was a great place to visit. You just need to advertise more.
Actually visited Eastern Cape Signal Unit. Offical visit.
5/5 Great outing for the family. Learn about the aviation history of South Africa while being up close to real planes and helicopter. Free entrance (but make a donation to support the upkeep). We decided to take a trip to this museum, and after driving for 4km on a very quiet road, just before we thought that we may be lost, it appeared in front of us.Museum has utilized every inch of space to provide information about the topic. Get up close to the engines, planes, weapons and view old uniforms. There is a hanger a small walk away from the museum building and if you ask nicely you may be able to see planes being restored.Recommended outing for the whole family.
Nice to see the old air crafts close up
What a lovely experience. Lived in PE all my life and didnt know of this gem on my doorstep
Definitely worth viewing irrespective of passing by or if you live in PE. Theres only 3 SAAF museums in SA.
Absolutely amazing 👏 my 4 year old had a blast of a time and the staff was super friendly.
A hidden treasure. You drive there thinking is it worth it. You get there the outerbuildings dont look like much, but what a lovely airforce museum inside. Worth rhe drive , the grandchildren loved this and are still talking about it.
Completely discipointted as my 8 and 3 year old children were not even allowed to access the cockpits. Poor managers display of attitude at the simulator where we were sternly prohibited to touch anything - Only to learn a week later that all was excessed by my daughters friend. How disgusting for SAAF!Yes, go for a visit, but keep your donation small.
We were given a tour and were told the history behind each aircraft. Really interesting and my son loved climbing into the helicopter!
We enjoyed it so much. It was the highlight of my sons holiday. So informative and a lot of history.
As South Africans we all need to support these museums a lot more. Great work by dedicated people who love what they do.
Very interesting to be able to see the old aircrafts and other memorabilia
Nice to reflect on the days gone by and what pilots had to face in their time
So much history and the people working there were so nice. You can spend a long time going through historical books, looking at the old aircraft and reading about the lives that people lived many years ago.You can also buy art, posters, books, etc to remember the lovely day you spent there.
Definately stop by if you are in the area. Entrance is free. Theres much to see and read about in their display area including an art gallery. They have a separate hanger with the old Harvard, Bosbok and other old aircraft. They also have a souvenir shop where you can buy mugs, books, magazines, stickers, coins, and many more trinkets.Just make sure to show your support by dropong a donation before you leave.
Lovely way to learn about our South African history and has great views of airplanes taking off.
Really enjoyed our visit. Thanks Stompie for walking us through and sharing your knowledge. Loved the history. Would certainly recommend a visit
Great experience, staff members so friendly and they know their SAAF history.
Beautiful nostalgic place . Planes if yesteryear . Totally enjoyed this place
With more funding, this place has the potential to be great! Very informative and the kids loved being able to climb into some of the aircrafts.
Only small (and a bit off the beaten trackbut well worth a visit.
Brilliant trip into History, please remember to donate to the Museum
Woody and James are awesome, they have a real passion for the museum. Nice local history and wonderful exhibits.Pub and braai facility is a welcome addition and functions are always a pleasure
Good display and particularly strong on the social history and personal stories of those involved. The restoration hanger also worth looking in as you can get very close to the exhibits and the restoration in progress that you just cant in say RAF Duxford.
Very educational, had a walkthrough with a friend of the museum, he was very knowledgeable and passionate. Museum has a great collection of old letters, official documents, photos, newspapers clippings, pilot note books, old flying instruction handbooks, and even historic pilot flying log books.
Its small but very interesting, some of the pilot letters are hard to read because of the glass display but its still interesting to see
The air museum gives a nice overview of the history of the SAAF from its inception. Small but interesting. There is a nice clubhouse and bar plus a theatre.these can be rented for private use.As with all facilities of this nature, drastically short of funding for upkeep and maintenance, it would be sad to loose part of the South African heritage.
We had a wonderful trip down memory lane thanks to our experienced guide. He had some interesting facts and a good knowledge of the aviation history of SA. Very well preserved piece of our heritage.Well worth a visit if you are ever in the Port Elizabeth area.
The kids love it and it made nice party venue. Good facilities for a very reasonable price.
Very interesting day out , lots of history , recommended!
Amazing experience. The friends of the museum are enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. Will surely visit again
Enjoyed it very much brought back memories of when I was in the SAAF.
Needs some work and a little improvement, and would be super... However, still a great visit... 😊
This was an informative experience and the kids loved it. The planes are in 2 huge hangers. So you can visit on windy and rainy days.
Nice place with historical value, learn and have fun at museum
Awesome piece of South African aviation history. Well worth visiting and supporting! The flight simulator is absolutely stunning!
My first impression was the succulent garden and then I was taken back into history, the old Impala, Mirage and helicopters, one of the restoration guys even took me to the other hanger to show me the projects in line for restoration, for me it was well spent time.
A must visit to appreciate our Air Force.
Fantastic... Planes and helicopters is great condition, well written descriptions, models, photos, paintings, uniforms, and support artifacts. My 3 year old was in his element and I was too. Friendly volunteer on site for questions. A hidden gem in Port Elizabeth. Do go visit.
This place is awesome, great to see the old planes and log books pieces of history. the staff who work there where friendly and even invited us into a plane andwe got to walk on the wings. There are no charges but there are donations which i encourage you to do so maybe they can get even more cool things
