Sousse Archaeology Museum, Kasba - Museum in Sousse, Tunisia
Very interesting place. Worth seeing all the mosaics! Such a lovely historical site!
For a small museum it’s quite packed with incredible mosaics, marble busts, and pottery. There is also some great background info posted around so nothing is without context. Doesn’t quite make up for the Bardo and Carthage museums being closed but it was such a great experience.
Very small museum but with some impressive art works, not expensive as well. It’s a good starting point if you are visiting the Medina
What a delight! This is an outstanding museum in every way. It is limited Im scope-- Punic and Roman items from the immediate region-- so it is a focused collection and presentation. But these are magnificent items-- mosaics, statues, funerary items, a fabulous baptistry that looks like a hot tub designed by Gaudi. The space and presentation create a contemplative but not somnolent equilibrium.Theres a reason this museum has such a strong Google maps rating. Believe it.
Dissapointing. Arriving at 17:45 we get passed the security and then was kicked out by a lady saying it is closed.
On Google was written that they are open. We drove 200km for nothing because they were closed....
Too much of rebuild stuff, the sculpture descriptions are as if taken from a book(no creativity in telling stories or eventsOnly the outer space matters, the price of the ticket is so expensive according to what they do offer, and the last not the least i give zero to people who are selling tickets, no greeting, no smile nothingDisappointed experience
nice museum
An excellent museum with a wonderful display of Roman mosaics. Truly masterpiece!
Lovely selection of Roman era mosaics. Some very beautiful pieces of Roman statues as well.
The Roman mosaics, vases and sculptures are very good preserved most of them are from second and third century A.D.Some of the mosaics are explaining almost everything about North Africa. If you are in Souse then it’s a museum that must to be seen.
Very nice museum with gorgeous mosaics. Worth a visit if youre in Sousse
Nice museum.
An excellent collection of RomanMosaics, well preserved and presented worth the trip from Tunis
The Archaeological Museum of Sousse is a Tunisian museum located in the city of Sousse, the ancient Hadrumeto. It has the largest collection of mosaics in Tunisia. The Archaeological Museum of Sousse was founded in 1951 and occupies part of the old Kasbah of Sousse built from the 9th century. Located on what is now Marshal Tito Avenue, it replaces a smaller structure that existed in the European city
If you’re staying in Sousse, or even just passing through, this museum is definitely worth a stop. Only 12DT per person. One to three hours depending on how much time you take exploring. The museum itself is not huge, but you can also look around the entire property. I’ve never been to a mosaic museum before, and it was super impressive. We also found a couple tortoises in the gardens!
The place os phenomenal, just had some trouble to shoot using my tripod
Fantastic collection of mosaics with good explanations. In a modern building, well laid out. Staff were friendly, and covid precautions in place.
The best collection of Roman mosaics I have ever had the pleasure of seeing outside of Rome itself. Well preserved and very well displayed. Beautiful! Congratulations to all those who brought it all together.10 Dinar for adult ticket (aprox £3).You may also like to visit the Roman Arena at El Jem and its nearby museum which also proudly houses a great display of mosaics & remains of the local town.
The second biggest museum in the country, with the second biggest mosaic collection. An outstanding setting and very creative way to exhibit the unique pieces. It also holds a special initiative for visually impaired persons. The staff is very nice and professional.During my last visit, a guide was making the tour with a tourist and he kindly invited me to join them, which made my experience more insightful!
I liked that a lot. Very nice mosaics and the view on the city. We did not pay anything because my husband is Tunisian and the country is trying to support the culture, however the entrance costs normally about 10 dinars. There are not many people, there were more workers than clients. It was very quiet and nice. I can recommend it!
Ancient Roman mosaics are great! The entrance fee could be less a bit.
Mostly its about Roman history of Tunisia. Love it
After the Bardo Museum in Tunis, this is the second best collection of artefacts in Tunisia! As you descend down the stairs, your jaw also drops in wonder at the marvellous and detailed mosaics that decorate the walls and floors of the museum. Incredible and true masterpieces that have survived, in some cases, thousands of years
Very nice place! Beautiful panorama.
Astonishingly complete mosaics and ancient art.
Nice place people who work there are very nice and very beautiful views
Great mosaics and good views on the Medina
This place is a great I liked
Nice museum. Besides the small but excellent collection of archeological findings, the staff is very friendly and the building itself is a joy to explore. Theres also great views over the Medina.
This was with a doubt, the highlight of Sousse for us. The building itself is spectacular and was almost completely empty. The exhibits inside are so beautiful, and so well preserved. The baptism font is a particular highlight, as well as the very cool medusa mosaic. If you are in Sousse, make sure you prioritise visiting this and the ribat. So incredible!
Very nice museum. Well organised.
This museum lies against the outside of the city wall, and is fairly easy to get to if you are wandering the Medina. Otherwise it is located on a significant road, so you can get a taxi to it easily.Cost was around 10 TND per adult and child was free on our visit in Feb 2019. It was a fairly quiet day while we were there which gave us space to see the museum and courtyard and views from the building. The display areas are very modern while the building itself is the old fortress. We had wanted to see the Tunis Bardo Museum mosaics but that wasn’t going to work out, so we made sure we got to this museum. What we saw here far exceeded our expectations - there are some remarkable mosaic examples on display and other interesting and very old artifacts from the area. Several of the mosaics are simply spectacular, and the collection has a good range of eras and styles on display. It certainly helps to know a bit of history of/from the region first, so don’t do this on your first day.We sent about 2 hours there, and our child found plenty to see and examine... which made things easier as a traveling family. Some items you may need to explain or point out context for their historical context for your kids.It is easy to miss some of the details in the mosaics if you don’t read the plaques carefully (that goes for both adults and children!). Item descriptions are written in Arabic, French and English.
Great collection of historical peaces . Beautiful mosaics . Also you can have nice panoramics views
Worth a visit. Well looked after and organised. 20 minutes walk from the Grand Mosque.
Worth visiting museum, lot of history and well organized.
Interesting building, exhibits are mostly mosaics. 9 dinar entry, cafe was closed
100% worth a visit whilst in the area, we had the whole place to ourselves on our visit. Friendly staff, some good exibits & a good location for exploring Sousse Old Town, markets & harbour. We had no issues, people friendly & genuinly glad to see that the British are slowly returning.
A large and interesting collection of mosaics well presented in a renovated museum. The guides in the musuem are very helpful and happy to answer questions.
Its ok
Excellent place to visit. Really good roman antiques there. Very well preserved by tunisians. Well done
A very organized one with a great outside view; detailed explanation is provided to each exhibit inside the museum. Highly recommended if you are a big fan of history (Roman Empireor a believer of Christianity.
Beautiful mosaics and they have put together interesting descriptions of each major work inside.
Good collection of tiles, impossibility to walk along the walls to have a better view is the minus point
A wee bit expensive, but quite curious and the views are gorgeous. The top floor is breathtaking.
Great experience, its a must to visit!
The best sightseeing in the city.
Ive been here 2014. Recommended if you are into art or history. It has good collection of mosaic art and other valuable ancient crafts.
Worth a visit. Unbelievable to be up close with the mosaics and other finds. Great views over the Medina and beyond.
I enjoy looking at the mosaics on the walls but for the money spent you dont get to see a lot. very disappointed
