The food is good. I went for happy hour so I cant speak for the entrees but the plates that passed me looked good and nice portions. It has a full bar and a private area upstairs. I would go again. Service was a little slow though.

Stumbled upon this place just walking by it. So glad we did! Ordered the Louisiana Hot Chicken Sandwich with sweet potato fries. Sandwich was delicious and very tasty. Fries were the perfect amount of sweet and crispy. Highly recommend this place for great southern cooking.

Very nice place, good food. I had a little problem though with 2 of my dishes being a little burned on one side. I voiced it out the 2nd time and they offered me discounts etc. So I liked the service very much. And the cook said that the meal was supposed to be a little burned (Blackened Salmon). I cant judge on that much but I still appreciated the move they did towards their customer.

Love the space, service and the food! The bartender, Christian is very knowledgeable and can mix up a great cocktail.Went for happy hour and had the mac n cheese with crawfish, red beans and rice, house salad, kettle corn.The food is delicious! The macaroni and cheese was good, but they just sat the crawfish on top. The crawfish were boiled so they didnt have much flavor. I would have preferred for it to be mixed into the macaroni.The red beans and rice were rich and flavorful. I dont even like beans, but they were good.The house salad is a spring lettuce mix with cucumbers tomatoes and red onions. The onions could have been lighter. The dressing comes tossed into the salad.The menu is overwhelming with soulful sounding items so I intend to take multiple trips and try them all! Oh and they have brunch until 3pm on the weekends!

I love the food at this restaurant but the service isnt the best. We were excited about returning to this restaurant on Saturday, January 26th after watching the Madea play at the Dolby Theatre. The time was about 7pm. We went in just two of us and the hostess/waitress never acknowledged us as she came from behind the hostess counter and walked away. By the time she came back to the desk there were about 15 other people who had come in for dinner or cocktails as well. After standing there for about 25 minutes unacknowledged by no one she finally returned only to tell us that there was going to be about an hour wait. I ask her if she had some type of sign in sheet so she could seat us in some type of order and she looked at me real strange as if I was speaking a foreign language. After another 5 to 10 minutes she pulls out a sheet of paper and she says to the crowd. Its going to be an hour wait. You can stay and sign in on the sheet or you dont have to. So basically what she was saying with her sarcastic attitude was that she didnt care if we stayed or left. I guess thats the same message everyone behind me got because we all walked out the door and left. It wasnt so much because of the wait time but more because of the poor customer service.

It was horrible, the lemonade was nasty. It had weird taste. The burger and the bacon were burnt. I told the guy at the register, and he tasted it and said thats the way its supposed to be. ive had the lemonade before and this was not it. i showed him the burnt burger, he just looked.

Great lunch, friendly staff, good music. Southerners wont find a replica of home, but the food is great and influenced by southern tastes while maintaining its own style. Only place I wanted to stop on the walk of fame.

Quiet, yet sophisticated spot for wonderful Gulf Coast States Southern Soul Foods! Well stocked Bar & an extensive well curated wine list. Jazz plays in softly in the background to enhance the ambience .the weekend Brunch is fantastic!

Stopped by Soul on a friends reco earlier this week, for dinner. Our waitress was nice (didnt remember her name). Popcorn came out (kettlecornwhich was appreciated while we waited for the mains. I had the Nashville Hot Chicken sandwich and it was amazing, so much flavor - if the spice was toned down just a tad would be even better. Will come back!

Good food. Good service. Great music. Will definitely keep coming here, love the cheesecake shake. Also the chili cheese fries are pretty bomb, probably the best I’ve had so far. The subs are delicious, sometimes I can’t even finish them but at least I have a late night snack or breakfast for tomorrow. Keep up the awesome work!

Great food and very friendly staff!! We had a large brunch party of 16 and they were able to accommodate us very well. The food was a hit and the upstairs space is perfect for large groups. We will definitely be back!!!

The ambiance was great for a girls night out or a dinner date. We enjoyed the Buffalo Cauliflower immensely & the Gumbo was great. They could work on the cornbread & cajun Salmon but the fried Catfish & red beans & rice were delish. The staff was delightful and accommodating & a lot of the menu can be converted to a vegan/vegetarian diet.

Food and service were at very high level! We have ordered two portions of salmon. Yeah, it took a bit longer to get it, but we were entertained by portion of pop-corn and glasses of water. Food taste was just amazing - salmon was perfectly prepared. Very suggest to get there.

It took 15 min before we got a server when we had a reservation. I think the part I didnt like most was that everyone saw us sitting and not one person checked in to make sure we were helped. When I let the host know (super sweet and niceshe grabbed the bartender who then helped us. Food took an extreamely long time to come out. Our appatizers came out with our meals, and we were only checked on when food got delivered. Food was t anything to report home too besides the fried chicken my friend got and the corn bread. The workers were super nice but it didnt make everything else better. I dont think Id recommend it to anyone.

I had my reservations about this place reading the reviews of bad service but was pleasantly surprised when we were greeted with smiles from the girl who seated us & the guy who served us. He was very accommodating & ready to please. In addition, the brunch atmosphere was nice & the food was worth the $$$. This was the1st time I can remember eating all my food (french toast & fried chickenat a restaurant.

The only reason this isn’t getting 5 starts is because of how long the food took to come out. Granted there was only 1 chef for a lunch time Thursday reservation but it took a long time. The corn bread was the best I’ve ever had in my life but allow at least half and hour for it to come out. The lunch specials were tasty and great, clean restaurant & friendly staff in a great location.

Great food and craft beers on tap. Service can be a little slow, especially with large groups. Lunch prices are surprisingly good for the area.

Ordered via Uber Eats, arrived looking as it would had we dined in. Presentation within the containers.We are from the south and This was the best we’ve had in the year we’ve been here! It took me back home. I had The Bayou Catfish, two thumbs up and a gold star. The bread pudding, sooooo yummy! The portions were perfect, you definitely get your money’s worth. Had a great experience so we will definitely be regulars.

We found this place as we were strolling on Hollywood Boulevard at lunchtime so we decided to give it a stab! Other than the regular dishes you can order from the menu, they had the lunch daily special. The food and service was pretty good especially the sweet potato fries! Kids menu was good too. It must be a great place also for dinner.

Chicken wings and fried catfish fresh, hot and delicious! Lovely, cozy little place on the corner.

There was a lot I loved about this place, but sadly there were things I definitely didnt. I want to give this place 5 stars for all their sides and their amazing kettle corn, the mashed potatoes are some of the best Ive had and the biscuit was rustic and crumbly. The sweet tea and horchata slushies were amazing!Now the reason Im only giving this place 3 stars was that even though their sides are amazing, the main dishes leave a lot to be desired.The fried chicken that we were so hyped up about was dry and felt stale and we thought maybe it was twice fried, which isnt necessarily a bad thing, its just that some parts were burnt and overly breaded. Others it looked like the breading had fallen off.The steak I had looked amazing, but it was somehow dry, I tried to enjoy it with the lovely mushrooms and onions in the dijon sauce but sadly it was just too overpowering. I could taste nothing but the mustard so I opted to eat the rest of my steak without it.The nashville hot chicken sandwich wasnt spicy, though Im happy to say the chicken on the sandwich wasnt dry and was enjoyable despite us missing the kick.At their price point I was expecting to be blown away, and while their main dishes fell short on the task, I was pleasantly surprised with all the sides.

Service was basicly non existent, (except the hostest she was awsome food was okay not sure if it was the best vegan burger but it was good. I would of loved the buffalo cauliflower but it was really spicy and I had no water so I couldnt eat it. (the entire hour and 45 plus no water refill on a 87 degree day )my husband had the bbq platter he said it was good. So yay for the cooks and the host , retrain the wait staff.

On the prowl for something to eat after visiting the comedy show in the area, we stumbled across so Hollywood while visiting Los Angeles. The hostess was very nice, the food was decent, and the Ambiance was everything!

The food was GREAT and the ower was so nice she checked on my table before and after our meal and gave us a complimentary dessert. Its nice to find a soul food place with real soul food i will definitely be comin back and i recommend everyone come enjoy it!!!!!!

The restaurant was very busy and the tables and chairs are not so comfortable. That said we were seated fairly quickly and the food was quite good. if you like wings I suggest you get them they are spicy and very good size. also their cauliflower is interesting its buffalo cauliflower and if you like spicy again this is very good. The salmon was moist and cooked to Perfection enjoyed it very much. Also they have a BBQ platter that gives you a nice delicacy of different flavored meats. I definitely suggest trying out this if youre in the area.

I have been here once and really enjoyed it. It is in the corner of Hollywood and Sycamore. I had the chicken and waffles which were very good! Some of my friends had the jumbalaya which comes with cornbread. They said it was very good and on the spicy side. For desert we tried the key lime tart and the bread pudding. Both were delicious. I am definitely going back there.

A great place that we chanced upon after avoiding the endless Hollywood tour reps, and CD-handout merchants. We thought the plates might be big so ordered a chicken and bacon salad, chicken wings and crab cakes as starters. The chicken wings were huge, a mix of deep fried BBQ flavour and spicy chili, the crab cakes were superb, and the salad a great accompaniment. Service was very friendly and the place itself felt fresh, bright and airy in comparison to the grotty Hollywood Boulevard.

This blows away my preconceived ideas of a "soul food" experience. Its smart, its warm and yet spans some good square footage. The food is great. I had the spicy chicken on hand made biscuits topped egg and hollandaise sauce. Yum.The staff are lovely and know their stuff.Drinks are made with fresh vibrant mixes and I believe a "signature" Soul.$89..2.5 mains, 2 Boody Marys and 2 cocktails. I believe the standard get away these days. Find a 2hr free parking spot, theres a paid parking just behind.Would I return? Yes, I liked it, I liked the vibe and I like them.

This restaurant considering its excellent location in the heart of Hollywood, expresses why I should call a " Want to be" effort to encase our typical American and classic SOUL, food.The Gumbo and excellent dish that reflects the real spirit of the south, but please DONT ORDER the burger, no taste, nothing attractive about it, extremely plain and without any punch that will bring your taste buds to say, Oh yeah this is Creole-Cajun placeLack of restrooms for the magnificent space they have, 1 for the entire place, no parking arrangement but have to say, that servers TRY its hardest to convince, friendliness and confidence are there.Reason for only 3 stars, hopefully in the near future the can mend these mistakes and really offered that SOUL flavor, they are teying to promote!!!

This place is near my office and its a great lunch spot. Its on Hollywood Blvd so there is good people watching. The new menu has some cool stuff like red beans and rice... Try it, you wont be disappointed.

Absolutely delicious soul food restaurant located on an easy to access corner location next door to a parking structure.The buffalo cauliflower is the best I’ve ever had, the sangria was nice but not memorable. I also had the catfish, greens and Carmelized sweet potatoes entree. Aside from the cat fish being just slightly over breaded, I thought it was a fantastic dish. I look forward to going back for a brunch.

The good: nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Been served by a very nice and welcoming bartender (she).The bad: the food came too fast (less than 5 minsand it was barely warm. That makes me believe the whole platter I ordered was cooked previously and just reheated a bit. As a result the meat was chewy and hard to swallow.Overall its a shame as the restaurant and service have great potential. I hope its just a mistake from the kitchen and the this is not what happens usually.

We were ending our last night in LA, just finished a movie and walking down the strip and this place looked inviting. The space is small upon entry but expands more with upper level seating. The service was great. The gentleman that took our order knows customer service even as I was leaving the restroom he spotted me as he was on an obvious mission stopped, smiled and wished me a good night. Which made me forget to tell someone the restroom needed some attention. The bonus to the restaurant was the live music by a young woman singing some lovely covers and original melodies via her electric guitar and keyboard. She sounded amazing as we enjoyed our dinner which was good.

Im visiting from philly and I am so disappointed at the poor service I received today. The restaurant IS NOT BUSY! There were maybe 5 tables in the whole restaurant. I ordered the corn bread as an app and it took 40 minutes! My cousin and I had our food brought out first, and my 5 year olds mac and cheese brought out last. The mac and cheese was nasty. we waited 20 mins for our server to even check on us so I could tell her he didnt like it. I ordered him a cheese Flatbread. STILL NO CORNBREAD. My cousins hot chicken sandwich was mediocre. After I expressed my frustration, it was explained after the fact that the cornbread takes a long time to make. I wish I knew that because I wouldve said no if I knew it was going to come out after my food. My sons Flatbread came 20mins after the cornbread finally came. The manager took it off the bill, but neither he or the server seemed like they really cared. If you know what REAL soulfood taste like, then youll know this isnt it. DO NOT waste your money.

Relatively new on the Boulevard, Soul is a killer little place to rest your weary feet and grab some great food and drink! Dropped in for New Years Eve Brunch event they had with a live band and absolutely loved it! The restaurant is warm and bright and the special Brunch menu looked so delicious it was difficult to choose what to eat. I had the Brisket Hash and it was pretty tasty overall! Service was a little on the slower side but they were so friendly and the musicians were so great I didnt mind at all!I will be making this place a regular stop for me.

Nice find in the area. Soul food on Hollywood blvd. Use to be the original building for the screen actors guild. Now a young black woman owns it and made it into a upscale soul food eatery!! So proud of her!!! Foods good too

Ten years in the making according to Chef Yealang--a gracious, lovely woman, it finally opened the first week of August 2017 and was a welcome entry to Hollywoods culinary landscape. We were pretty much first nighters and loved everything about it from the hot Hollywood slick decor to the food and service.We visited Soul on opening week. Once seated at our table we relaxed with a great bottle of Licco Chardonnay, selected by manager Jose, as we studied the tasty-sounding menu. The two founders of Soul came over to the table. Celebrity Chef Jones runs the kitchen, Chef Smith conceptualized the place and did it right.We loved every dish from the hot, freshly baked beignets that chef sent out first, through the outrageously tasty corn bread, BBQ small bites and halibut entree--all created with soul and tastes.Heres peek at the menuSignature dishes from "Small Bites"-- Smoked Trout on toast with Fennel Slaw, Braised Meat Boulettes, and Sweet Buttermilk Cornbread with Charred Corn, among others. The "Garden" showcases a Jerk Chicken Cobb, Dino Kale, Little Gem and Wedge salads, while "Flatbreads" include House BBQ Chicken and Roasted Kombucha Squash with Spicy Turkey Sausage. Delicious!. Shout out to Chef Yealang!! Hands down her fried chicken is by far the best dish on the menu. Ill be back very very soon for that chicken. Im craving it now just thinking about it.

incredibly beautiful space. the first moments were not a good sign: 4 servers just conversing, no-one noticing my party to give menus. after finally getting a server, JENSEN, all was forgiven. she was careful to check with chef about ingredients i couldnt eat. had a reasonably-priced halibut steak, perfectly cooked, on a bed of culiflower-puree, which was heavenly. mac& cheese in cast-iron was also flawless. eager to be back to this comfort-food paradise. but, needs to be open for lunch!!!
